Is there a such thing as too many discussions about the mental load? Until it stops being one of the most complicated issues in relationships, the answer is definitely no. Danielle and Adam were so happy that Zach joined them for a conversation about all the different facets and nuances about the mental load which are rarely discussed. In fact, for a couple that has spoken more about this topic than most partners, they each learned a lot of new, insightful information. Plus, they discuss how far they've come since their devastating fight from one year ago, that almost caused Danielle to leave. Plus, with the upcoming holidays, the three of them tackle the different ways that time of year can make the division of mental and emotional labor even more complicated. This is another one of those episodes that you'll definitely want to share with your partner and ask them to listen. In Episode 126, Kyle and Sara, LPC's, interview Zach Watson from @realzachthinkshare. He is blowing up on IG and TikTok right now discussing the topic of “Invisible Labor” in families. He is also a self titled “recovering man child”. As a dad and husband I find Zach's content illuminating, challenging, and also encouraging. All too often I find myself shifting the labor and the burden of family life onto Sara's shoulders because I am choosing to focus on other things. Most of the time I am not even aware I am doing it. Zach Watson just changed a significant part of my relationship therapy/coaching conversations in this discussion. I used to say, "When we keep score, everyone loses." And while y'all know I deeply dislike an all-or-nothing statement, I have historically leaned pretty hard into that sentiment. Zach walks me through the difference between stat-keeping and score-keeping, and my mind and practice are forever changed! Zach is a Fair Play pro, encouraging all humans - generally men - on ways to help decrease the mental load for default caregivers. We discuss the ways to decrease defensiveness and function from a place of vulnerability in order to find solution-focused ways to nurture your relationship. And so much more. I give Zach some hard questions about his own marriage, examples of my own and we talk about ways we would coach clients with the same issues. In this episode, Zach Watson joins the conversation. Zach is a creator and teacher. He helps men realize how they are contributing to mental loads with their wives. Zach and I met via TikTok and while we disagreed with each other's views, Zach saw something worth pursuing in conversation and understanding. This discussion today is really about exchanging views and learning to understand where the other is coming from, despite our agreeability to the views. I found this to be a really interesting conversation about two different philosophies that ultimately can help strengthen relationships and bring people closer in marriage. For those who have open minds and open hearts, this conversation will invite you to think for yourself about roles, responsibilities, and relationship conflict-resolution plans. We did our best to move forward. Hey, the new season of Last Chance U is out today-what are the best sports TV shows of all time? We got into #DefinitivePowerRankings. Speaking of that, late in Hour 1, we checked in with Maryland native Kam Carter-a lifelong Ravens fan who was part of Season 1 of "Last Chance U" at East Mississippi Community College. We talked up his experience on the show and now getting ready for his senior season at Duquesne. Midway through Hour 2, Ironbirds OF/Orioles third round pick Zach Watson checked in to talk about the start of his pro career and his former USA Baseball teammate Adley Rutschman. Late in Hour 2, we chatted with legendary Showtime boxing analyst Al Bernstein to discuss next Saturday's Gervonta Davis/Ricardo Nunez fight at Royal Farms Arena.
