Brian #1: Loop targets Ned Batchelder I don't think I would have covered this had it not been the surprising opposition to Ned's code. Here's the snippet: params = { "query": QUERY, "page_size": 100, } *# Get page=0, page=1, page=2, ...* **for** params["page"] in itertools.count(): data = requests.get(SEARCH_URL, params).json() **if** not data["results"]: **break** ... Ned is utilizing the assignment in the for loop to use the value of count() and store it into the params["page"]. The article includes another version with a temp variable page_num, which I think the naysayers would prefer. But frankly, I think both are fine. Why not put the value right where you want it? Michael #2: asyncstdlib The asyncstdlib library re-implements functions and classes of the Python standard library to make them compatible with async callables, iterables and context managers. It is fully agnostic to async event loops and seamlessly works with asyncio, third-party libraries such as trio, as well as any custom async event loop. Full set of async versions of advantageous standard library helpers, such as zip, map, enumerate, functools.reduce, itertools.tee, itertools.groupby and many others. Safe handling of async iterators to ensure prompt cleanup, as well as various helpers to simplify safely using custom async iterators. Small but powerful toolset to seamlessly integrate existing sync code into async programs and libraries. Brian #3: Bagels: TUI Expense Tracker Jax Tam “Bagels expense tracker is a TUI application where you can track and analyse your money flow, with convenience oriented features and a complete interface. Why an expense tracker in the terminal? I found it easier to build a habit and keep an accurate track of my expenses if I do it at the end of the day, instead of on the go. So why not in the terminal where it's fast, and I can keep all my data locally?” Who hasn't wanted to write their own expense tracker? This implementation is fun for lots of reasons It's still new and pretty small, so forking it for your own uses should be easy Built on textual is fun install instructions based on uv tool seems to be the new normal: uv tool install --python 3.13 bagels test suite started pretty useful as is, actually Nice that it includes a roadmap of future goals Would be a fun project to help out with for anyone looking for anyone looking for a shiny new codebase to contribute to. Michael #4: rloop: An AsyncIO event loop implemented in Rust An AsyncIO event loop implemented in Rust From Giovanni Barillari, Creator of Granian RLoop is an AsyncIO event loop implemented in Rust on top of the mio crate. Disclaimer: This is a work in progress and definitely not ready for production usage. Run asyncio.set_event_loop_policy(rloop.EventLoopPolicy()) and done. Similar to uvloop. The rapid growth of reshored manufacturing, AI data centers, industrial decarbonization technologies, and electric vehicles are driving unprecedented demand for electricity. Many of the companies with the greatest energy demands have also committed to net zero emissions targets which will require them to use renewable power sources. While the renewable energy sector has grown tremendously, developing the capacity to meet the energy demand increase will face numerous challenges. In this episode, we're featuring a panel our S2G Summit in which Frank O'Sullivan, Managing Director of Energy at S2G spoke with Ernie Moniz, Former US Secretary of Energy and current CEO and President of the EFI Foundation, Grant van Rooyen, CEO of Tract, and Ben Pratt, President at Nova Clean Energy. They discuss the broader system needs to fully “close the loop” on clean energy spanning from generation, transmission, and interconnection, to PPA structuring, asset positioning, and beyond. Key Topics: Private Capital Dynamics and Clean Energy Transition: A significant gap exists between available capital and investable opportunities in the clean energy sector. Financing the "missing middle" remains a crucial challenge for translating new technologies into scaled clean energy solutions.Overcoming Grid Interconnection Hurdles: The process of grid interconnection for new energy projects poses challenges, with prolonged approval wait times hindering progress. Panelists discuss the need for robust expansion and optimization of physical grid infrastructure to efficiently meet the escalating demand for renewable energy sources.Strategic Data Center Development: Panelists make the case that we can't just put data centers anywhere. Strategic location choices near skilled labor pools and existing infrastructure are essential for successful data center establishment due to their scale and complex demands. Navigating the Regulatory Landscape in Energy Markets: Ongoing discourse revolves around the efficacy of regulated versus competitive energy markets in supporting the energy transition journey. Panelists discuss the merits of each system.Fostering Long-Term Collaboration for Clean Energy: The panelists discuss that long-term planning spanning a decade or more is essential for utilities and developers to effectively manage the surging demand for clean energy sources. Collaborative efforts involving project stakeholders and utilities are key to building trust and aligning proposals with regulatory frameworks for sustainable energy advancements.Resources: Video: Frank O'Sullivan and Bala Nagarajan on the Missing MiddleMissing middle paperTractNova Clean EnergyEFI FoundationThis content is for informational purposes only, should not be taken as legal, business, tax or investment advice, or be used to evaluate any investment or security, and is not directed at any investor or potential investor in any investment vehicle sponsored by S2G Investments, LLC or its affiliates (“S2G Ventures”). Is it possible to solve ocean pollution by turning the packaging industry into a closed-loop economy? Wes Carter thinks so. Wes is the Founder of a New Earth Project and President of Atlantic Packaging, on a personal mission to stop the significant pollution the packaging industry causes. In this episode we hear what it would take to close the loop on the economy via new types of biodegradable materials that could replace plastic and other common pollutants. We also discuss which types of recycling work, and which are rubbish. And of course, in true Win-Win Podcast style, we hear about what it would take to change the game so that companies (and their customers) are properly incentivized to account for the true environmental costs of the production and consumption. An ironical end to Saul's reign
On this episode of the Lead With Purpose podcast host, Tze Ching Yeung talks about ‘closing the loop' & how it can transform your business. KEY TAKEAWAYS Instead of the traditional take, make & dispose models, circular models emphasises a closed loop system where they are designed to be reused, re-manufactured & recycled. Aside from being a positive force for the planet, circular business models can actually boost your bottom line. Companies that adopt a circular practice can unlock up to $4.5 trillion in economic value by 2030. Audit your supply chain. Take a close look at identify ways in which waste can be minimised & explore sustainable sourcing options. A circular business starts with responsible inputs as well as outputs. Design for circularity. Challenge your product designers to create products with a longer lifecycle & opt for materials that are easily recyclable &/or can be repurposed. Think longevity not disposability. No planned obsolescence. Implement a ‘take back programme'. Encourage your customers to return used products to you. This not only fosters customer loyalty but also allows you to refurbish or recycle the items, closing the loop on your product's lifecycle & taking responsibility for your company's outputs. Before you launch this, do make sure that you've looked at the processes from an operational point of view that you are able to recycle and repurpose the items that come back to you. BEST MOMENTS ‘Sustainable business practices are not a cost, they are an investment in the future of our planet & our economy.' ‘It's not about numbers, it's about building a resilient & sustainable business that stands the test of time.' ‘Leverage digital technology to track & optimise your circle of processes so you can prove what you're doing and can't be accused of greenwashing.' ‘Closing the loop isn't just a trend, it's a business imperative. It's about creating a legacy that goes beyond profits; creating a lasting positive impact on the planet.' ABOUT THE HOST Tze Ching started her entrepreneurial journey back in 2007 with the launch of a sustainable clothing & home furnishing ecommerce business. Next, she created a sustainable fashion brand. In 2019, she launched a social enterprise to help raise awareness about the negative impact of fashion at schools & colleges. Through the 15-year journey, she learned so much, but easily the most meaningful lesson learned was about the importance of marketing. She now focuses on channelling those insights to help others succeed through We Disrupt Agency, a business coaching, mentoring & digital marketing company. Tze Ching's mission is to create a community of global change makers and to contribute to positive change in both people & planet. CONTACT DETAILS Website Facebook Instagram Twitter LinkedIn
