His journey from struggling student to real estate investor, then into SBA lending and franchise brokering, highlights the resilience and adaptability needed for success in business. The conversation dives into financing strategies, franchise opportunities, and the critical role of business ownership in wealth creation, with Eckstein sharing valuable insights on how entrepreneurs can leverage SBA loans and other funding methods to achieve financial freedom.Key Takeaways:From Failure to Success – Eckstein's early struggles in real estate and financial collapse in 2008 forced him to reinvent himself, leading to his expertise in SBA financing and business ownership.SBA Lending as a Wealth-Building Tool – SBA loans, especially the 7(a) and 504 programs, provide pathways for entrepreneurs to finance businesses with as little as 10% down.Franchise vs. Independent Business – While some prefer acquiring independent businesses, franchises offer proven systems and structured support that can accelerate success. The Myth of Passive Income in Real Estate – Owning rental properties isn't always the cash flow generator people assume; business ownership often yields more predictable profits.Recurring Revenue Models Win – Businesses like pest control, restoration, and commercial painting franchises generate recurring revenue, making them attractive investment choices.Private Equity in Franchising – PE-backed franchises can be a red flag for some buyers, as corporate strategies may prioritize investor returns over franchisee success.SBA Loan Collateral Requirements Can Be Tricky – Borrowers with significant real estate holdings may find SBA lenders requiring liens on personal assets, making alternative financing strategies worth exploring.Eckstein's Mission: 100,000 Business Owners – His goal is to help aspiring entrepreneurs transition from employees to business owners through education, financing, and franchise opportunities.--------------------------------------------------Contact Beau onLinkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/beaueckstein/Website: https://businessownershipcoach.com/--------------------------------------------------

The Power of Authentic Leadership: Adina Eckstein's Approach to Leadership and Growth Motivation, Self-confidence, Growth Mindset, Communication, Support System, Team, Culture, Women in tech, In this episode of The Human Founder, I had the pleasure of speaking with Adina Eckstein, the COO of Lemonade. We delved into her journey of scaling the company from a small team to a global operation, where she emphasized the importance of OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) in aligning the organization's strategic goals. Adina's focus on integrating top-down objectives with bottom-up execution has enabled Lemonade to remain adaptable to change while ensuring that each team member is working toward clear and measurable outcomes. Empowering People and Creating a Collaborative Culture One of the key themes that resonated with me during our conversation was Adina's deep care for her team. She shared how empowering people and fostering authentic connections drives her leadership. Adina believes that when individuals feel valued and supported, they naturally perform at their best, which has shaped the collaborative culture at Lemonade. For her, it's not just about hitting targets but ensuring that the people behind the work are thriving. Navigating Transitions and Staying Resilient We also explored some of the major transitions Adina navigated as COO, including Lemonade's IPO and the challenges of adapting to a post-pandemic world. Her ability to foresee changes and keep the company resilient in the face of uncertainty is a testament to her forward-thinking leadership. Adina shared how she focused on maintaining employee motivation and stability during times of market volatility, proving that staying true to long-term goals is essential. Strong Female Leadership Network A particularly inspiring aspect of our chat was how Lemonade has grown into a strong female-led company, with many of the senior leadership roles held by women. Adina explained how this organic growth has created a supportive network of female leaders who bring out the best in each other, contributing to both the personal growth of these women and the business's success. Work - life balance Adina also opened up about balancing her professional role as COO with being a mother of three. She highlighted how her genuine love for people and her passion for empowering others fuels her ability to manage both work and family life. Authenticity as the Core of Leadership To me, the most striking part of Adina's journey is her commitment to authenticity. Her leadership is deeply rooted in staying true to her values, which she believes is the foundation of long-term success. From her personal life decisions to her professional path, Adina's courage to embrace change and empower others is a guiding principle for her, and it's something that left a lasting impression on me. When David Eckstein inherited a struggling business unit earlier in his career, he faced an uphill battle. The unit wasn't one he had built, nor had he developed the frameworks or discounting policies in place. Yet, it was hemorrhaging money, and Eckstein quickly realized he had to act. “Just because you inherited the business doesn't mean it's not yours,” he says. “And you shouldn't be thinking in terms of, you know, this isn't mine.”The first challenge was identifying the root of the problem. Was it high commissions? Support costs? After careful analysis, Eckstein uncovered the crux of the issue: the business was operating with a negative gross margin. Several factors were to blame, including a lack of control over discounting. “One person had full control over whether they gave an 80% or 20% discount,” he explains. “We needed to implement levels and thresholds to bring structure to the process.”In addition, Eckstein found that the company hadn't properly evaluated its costs to serve customers. Key personnel were misaligned to the cost of goods sold (COGS), and the company wasn't capitalizing research and development (R&D). “We had to reassign resources to the right areas and ensure our investments aligned with revenue goals,” he recalls. The experience reinforced Eckstein's belief that leadership means taking full responsibility, even when circumstances are inherited. “You need to embrace change and the outcome,” he reflects. “That's the only way to create ownership and drive meaningful results.” Through these efforts, Eckstein began to repair the business unit's trajectory, validating that accountability and decisive action are essential to strategic leadership.

Wearing high heels or flats to work is a small thing most women don't give too much thought to, but when seconds matter while running to a bomb shelter, a simple decision over footwear becomes critical. Most women in Israel don't wear heels because, when the sirens sound, Israelis have only about 30 seconds to make it to a bomb shelter, Yael Eckstein, president of the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, explains. “Just the other day, four days ago, we woke up at 5 a.m. to a siren sounding,” said Eckstein, who lives in Israel with her husband and four children. “We had 90 seconds to wake up our four kids and get them to our shelter in time. Thank God we have a shelter in our home, but even 90 seconds to wake up the kids, get them down to the shelter, we didn't have time to bring our puppy, and so my kids were crying that the puppy was outside, and I had to make the decision of keeping my kids safe or going out and getting the puppy and risking our lives.” For people living in Israel, these are “everyday situations,” she says. Eckstein joins “The Daily Signal Podcast" to discuss Iran's recent attack on Israel and commemorate the anniversary of the Oct. 7 terrorist attack.

In this episode, we chat with Michael Eckstein, the accountant who's making waves in the marketing agency world—and not just because he's dubbed himself ‘LinkedIn's cutest accountant.' Michael spills on the wild side of accounting, like that time a client casually mentioned a safe stuffed with cash or another who brushed off a $140,000 tax bill like it was no big deal. We dive into how Michael's all about those deep, personal connections with his clients, going way beyond the usual number-crunching to offer a service that's as high-touch as it gets. But it's not all sunshine and spreadsheets. Michael opens up about the frustrations of the accounting world, from the cold, impersonal help desk software that's creeping into the industry to his own dreams of becoming an influencer and setting up an affiliate shop—only to find out that the accounting world isn't exactly brimming with opportunities for that. We also get into the sketchy side of affiliate marketing and how some companies are pushing boundaries in all the wrong ways.Of course, no convo would be complete without a little AI talk—Michael shares his take on the challenges of integrating AI into accounting software and why it's crucial to keep advocating for clients amidst all the tech changes. Plus, we dish on the invite-only retreats we've been to and why keeping a balance between work and life is non-negotiable. Oh, and there's a bit of HR talk too, because boundaries, am I right? In the next part, we dive into the fun stuff—parties, surveys, and pricing strategies. We swap stories about a wild party in Scottsdale, the headache of crafting the perfect survey, and why sometimes, you just gotta raise those prices. Social media's influence gets a mention, as does our itch to hit up the next big marketing event. And yes, there's even a segment on tattoos and our signature scavenger hunt! Finally, we wrap things up with some real talk on everything from the daily struggle of outfit repetition to the lack of accountant representation in media. We get into domain name drama, the challenges of being a woman in a male-dominated field, and brainstorm ideas for accountant merch. Scott Eckstein shares his unique and diverse background creating solutions for an aging planet. Learn about his current roles as Managing Director of Active Living International and Chief Strategy Officer for CiminoCare Care, challenges curating quality care for his aging loved ones, and passion for educating the next generation of senior living providers. About Scott Scott Eckstein has over 30 years of diverse research, analysis, development, operations, and education experience in the senior living space. He has been directly involved in senior living projects throughout the United States, South and Central America, Europe, Africa, and Asia and specializes in providing strategic analysis, acquisitions, development, education, and operations advisory solutions for an aging planet. He is currently the Managing Director for Active Living International, an internationally focused senior living advisory firm, as well as Strategic Advisor for CiminoCare, a California-based middle market senior living operator. Eckstein's senior living experience began in the nascent days of senior housing. He has helped promote the creation of purpose built environments for senior wellness, lifestyles and care as well as having specialized in the creation and operation of a unique range of residential alternatives for the aging population worldwide, from active adult housing through the spectrum to memory care. Eckstein has held management positions at numerous senior living operators: Brookdale, Emeritus (now Brookdale), Aegis Living, Sunrise Senior Living and ARV Assisted Living (now Atria). In addition, he was also the Director of Business Development at WellAWARE Systems (now part of Best Buy), a pioneer in the senior tech space. Eckstein was also, the Director of the Senior Living Program at Boston University's School of Hospitality Administration and was a Clinical Assistant Professor and Senior Living Executive in Residence at the Granger Cobb Institute for Senior Living in the Carson College of Business at Washington State University (in which whose formation he was actively involved.) Key Takeaways A career in senior living and aging services is impactful because of the ability to make a difference in people's lives for a few years rather than a few days in a hotel or resort. There are incredible opportunities, but the industries don't market themselves well. Active adult (55+) communities serve a younger age bracket needing minimal care. The category overlaps with wellness real estate and intergenerational housing. Independent living adds care services and attracts people in their late 70s and 80s. One of the biggest problems in the active adult housing market is residents don't want to leave as they age and need higher levels of care. In the United States, you can't push people out legally. The biggest challenges in senior living are related to management, leadership, training, and culture. They are intricately related. The silent generation and baby boomers are focused on wellness and technology, so senior living communities are incorporating Centers for Healthy Living with massage rooms, fitness equipment and aging-related retail. Most communities offer telehealth post covid, and some offer a tech concierge. The most important questions to ask an assisted living community before signing on the dotted line include the turnover of team members and the training they receive, the flexible (or lack of) of the dining options. Dining is the major issue beyond care.
