If you're a survivor of sexual harm, recovering your sexuality is possible. You are worthy of good care. The toxic effects of sexual trauma and abuse can be devastating and lasting. Victims' ability to experience healthy sexuality, even if they free themselves from the abuse, is often shattered. If sexual abuse, violence, or coercive control is part of your story, certified sex addiction therapist (CSAT) and trauma specialist Tabitha Westbrook wants you to know: you are not alone, and healing is possible. In Body & Soul, Healed & Whole,Tabitha draws on her specialized expertise, her own personal story of abuse, and a deep knowledge of Scripture to create a safe and compassionate place for you to start recovering – or even finding - the healthy sexuality God intended for you. With honest wisdom and empathetic understanding, Body & Soul, Healed & Whole will help you discover how to:process your story of abuse―whether it occurred as a child, within marriage, or by someone in a position of power―without shame, develop healthy relationships with God, with ourselves, and with others (including those of the opposite sex),reconnect with your good body and establish a foundation for healthy sexuality, whether currently married or single, identify and address any spiritual abuse that may have taken place within sexually abusive relationships, understand what arousal structures are, how they're formed and distorted by abuse, and how to shift them when needed for healing, andincorporate practical skills for self-care during your healing process.Sexuality does not have to be forever broken. Rest assured in a God who understands and loves you in the deepest of deep ways―and begin your journey toward wholeness, restoration and healing.Tabitha Westbrook, LMFT-S, LCMHC-QS, LPC-S, is a licensed therapist who helps people who have messy, funky pasts (and sometimes messy, funky presents) live amazing, empowered lives today. We take on the dual themes of hyperindependence, where you feel like you have to handle everything on your own, and hypervigilance, the feeling of not trusting someone, always being on edge or looking for potential threats. We'll share what it means to heal from relational wounds and why rebuilding trust—both in others and in yourself—can feel so challenging, but is absolutely possible. Plus, why the phrase 'if it's hysterical, it's historical' holds so much truth and how we can develop greater self-awareness and compassion. Finally, we've got healing strategies, steps to break free from wounds of the past, and why you're healing is right on time.  So, whether you're working to heal old heartbreaks or simply want to deepen your self-awareness in relationships, this conversation is filled with insights and actionable advice to help you move forward with confidence and connection.  Let's go flirties! Melanie specializes in couples and marital therapy – particularly last-ditch marriage counseling. Drawing on lessons learned from working with attachment trauma in a variety of settings, Marshall regularly teaches on sandtray therapy and family work around the globe. In our opinion, Marshall is one of the leading voices in helping us understand ableism and disablism. You can connect with him at www.marshalllyles.com. In this episode, Marshall and Lisa tackle this commonly occurring, yet secretly held subject of ableism and disablism in our field. Here's what you'll hear: How ableism and institutionalized ableism has entered our profession, and how we might be perpetuating ableist norms for our clients or even for each other as therapists;  How to step into the mind of another in order to really have the sufficient mentalization to think critically about our own play spaces and our play therapy practices; How to initiate repair when rupture happens due to unawareness or assuming all minds and bodies work in the same way; and How to more fully celebrate the uniqueness of individuals and help individuals love and appreciate themselves exactly as they are. You're invited to listen to this episode and take Marshalls' wisdom to heart to discover ways to more fully welcome your clients' mind and body into the therapeutic space. NFCC's Guide Through the Seasons of Mental Wellness

Self-esteem is kind of a holy grail of sorts - one that we spend a lifetime in search of. BUT what is this mystical, internal force, really? And how do we develop it, share it, and parent it? To help us with this very important conversation, we had fun talking to Diane Vines, LMFT-S, LPC-S, RPT-S. There's more about Diane below, but know that it's never too late to develop self-esteem. About Diane Vines: Diane Vines serves as the Program Coordinator for The Neurosequential Network's NMT Individual and Site Certification programs. Ms. Vines is also a long-time ChildTrauma Academy Fellow and a clinician in private practice. She received her Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at the University of Houston - Clear Lake in 1999. Ms. Vines is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist-Supervisor and a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor in the state of Texas and is also a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor.  Ms. Vines provides individual and family therapy as well as clinical supervision. She has worked, trained, and specialized in the areas of child sexual abuse, incest, and childhood trauma since 1998, and she frequently provides community trainings and case consultations. Ms. Vines has formerly worked at the Houston Child Advocacy Center (Children's Assessment Center). She has also served on Houston Association for Marriage and Family (HAMFT) board and the Kids & Youth Protecting Other Kids (KYPOK) board. NFCC's Guide Through the Seasons of Mental Wellness

We've all heard that question, “Who am I outside of this relationship/marriage”. Singleism, the term for people living life outside of a committed, romantic relationship, is an emerging area of focus on a state of living that many people experience at some point in life. There is so much wonderful momentum behind the concept of living life while single and destigmatizing past views of what “living single” means in order to open us all up to the possibilities of our very own selves! Helping us explore the beauty and challenges of single hood at any age is NFCC's Lead Clinician, Heather Timmis, MA, LMFT-S. About Heather Timmis: Heather Timmis is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Supervisor (LMFT-S) who works with families, couples and individuals ages 3 years and up. She holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Texas at Austin as well as a master's degree in marriage and family therapy from the University of Houston-Clear Lake. Heather has experience helping clients work through challenges related but not limited to sexual abuse, trauma, suicidal thoughts/actions and anxiety. She believes in a flexible, collaborative approach where she and her client work as a team to determine the best fit for the client's needs. In addition to her amazing clinical work, Heather is obsessed with all things pop culture and experienced her fair share of dating apps before she finally met her fiancé.  Here are some resources mentioned in this episode: https://www.shanisilver.com/podcast (A Single Serving Podcast) http://www.belladepaulo.com/ (Bella DePaulo's Books and Info) https://belladepaulo.medium.com/resources-for-single-people-who-are-not-whining-about-being-single-3f9df6e67560 (Additional Resources)  A special thanks to our team: Tracy Lehman, Host & Executive Producer Os Galindo, Senior Producer & Engineer Yue Nakayama, Audio Engineer Jacel Dickson, Editor & Graphic Designer Administrators: Mary Elizabeth Hand and Audrey Omenson with music by Jim Roman Thanks for listening!

In this Voices From the Expressive Therapies Summit Episode, I interviewed play therapist Marshall Lyles. He talked about his multi-modal integrative approach to therapy and training therapists. Marshall Lyles, LPC-S, LMFT-S, RPT-S,  EMDRIA Approved Consultant, has over 15 years of practice in family and play therapy in a variety of mental health settings. With extensive international speaking and training experience in experiential approaches to treating attachment trauma, Marshall particularly enjoys discussing the use of sandtray therapy within a trauma-informed context. Presently, Marshall primarily conducts supervision and consultation sessions with counseling professionals. He is EMDR-certified and applies this, and other trauma approaches to implementation with diverse populations. He is nearing the completion of his Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy. In this episode, Marshall shares how he has taken an integrative approach to weaving the healing approaches he is most passionate about into all of his therapeutic endeavors. He speaks to the vulnerability of what it is to embark on the journey of becoming something more within your professional identity - the transition from therapist to leader and trainer of therapists. Additionally, he speaks about the importance of considering the needs of both the self and the clients as we make decisions to shift professionally. I definitely appreciated this perspective. Marshall has created a GORGEOUS space called The Workshop, in Austin, Texas. He will be hosting interactive trainings, supervision and open studio style events for expressive and playful therapists. The care and consideration that went into designing the space is brightly evident. The passion he has for his work shines through each of his thera-preneurial endeavors.
