In her new book, A Deeper Wellness, Dr. Monica Vermani provides the tools to create a deep, authentic sense of wellbeing. Drawing from her 25 years of clinical practice, Dr. Vermani takes readers through her tried and true steps of creating incremental, meaningful change. "In the movie, A Few Good Men, there's that famous one-liner from Jack Nicholson when he says, ‘You can't handle the truth!' It's true, most people can't handle the truth that they were handed a difficult path in life. But it's important to find ways to push through, and find the help needed to cope." John Callas knows what it is like to go through depression, trauma, and an attempted suicide. In this episode, he discusses how to change your point of reference by getting out of your depression comfort zone while understanding how getting past anger can help you open up to those who are truly looking out for your best interests. He advocates belief in yourself and healing self-inflicted issues that hold you back. Confidence led him to success and freedom...a life he thought only existed in movies. A veteran writer, director, and producer in the entertainment industry, John Callas has worked on dozens of motion picture trailers, international commercials, live action titles, and laser disc projects, a documentary shot on location in Russia, as well as having been the Worldwide VP for The Walt Disney Company while working at a large post-production facility. This is a story about how one man healed himself and used a tragedy and turned it into life purpose. An entrepreneur, author, public speaker, athlete, and philanthropist, David Richman uses the lessons learned in his life to enrich and inspire others. As a former sedentary, over-weight, smoker, David knew that he needed to focus not on what others wanted out of him, but on what he wanted out of life. With his first book, Winning in the Middle of the Pack, David discussed how to get more out of ourselves than ever imag- ined. Now, David shares the interconnected stories of others overcoming obstacles—specifically cancer—in his second book Cycle of Lives. OVER THE LAST 15 YEARS, David has completed: • Over 50 triathlons, including 15 Ironman-distance triathlons • More than 50 runs longer than marathon distance • Several 24-hour runs • An 85-mile run in Mexico during the summer • Four consecutive marathons (104 miles) from Santa Barbara to Manhattan Beach • A solo, 5,000 mile bike ride from California to Florida to New York Visit david-richman.com to learn more about David's story and mission. Parenting is hard. It's even harder with trauma when your inner wounds come up in the form of your younger self and you find yourself acting like your children. In this episode I take you through a guided meditation to help you decipher what it is your trauma is saying, so that you may reset and integrate that part into your life to find emotional regulation, safety, and peace. This is important to understand to separate your emotional reactions from your kids' emotional reactions when they trigger you. I also discuss having parenting "time outs" and what these look like.
