Be Careful of Your Feelings. Our feelings are powerful tools in our life, for good or for bad. With our feelings we express love, joy, gentleness, but also pain, anger, anxiety and distress. Feelings or our emotions can be a great hindrance to the faith walk of a Christian, if we allow them to take control. Feelings express the emotions or attitude as well as the reasonings of the soul, while faith through God's word, enables us to pursue God's will and purposes, in our life. If we are diligent in studying God's word, the Holy Bible and obeying the wisdom of the Holy Spirit, we will be empowered to subject our feelings to God's faith, working through us. When we arise, first thing, in the morning, it is very important to start the day praising the Lord and confessing His word over our new day's situations rather than allowing our feelings to dwell on Satan's deceitful tactics and to dominate the situation at hand.
171: Exchange your Destructive Criticism for Constructive Criticism Starting NowThe Saboteur of Success is Destructive Criticism. How can we exchange destructive criticism for constructive criticism? Here are 7 tips to start implementing today. 1. Protect the Individual's Self Esteem. Be gentle with your words and careful to not deflate the person you are speaking to. 2. Focus on the Future and Not the Past. Use words like "next time", "in the future", "today is a new day", etc.3. Focus on the Behavior or the Performance and not the Person. Replace the word "you" with a description of the problem. 4. Use "I" Messages to Retain Ownership of Your Feelings. I feel (insert a word like angry, hurt, frustrated) when you do (insert problematic behavior).5. Be Clear About What Needs to Change. Be specific, solution oriented, and decision based. 6. Offer to Help. Model the best behavior you expect from others. Serve others, care about others, and give help. Let them know they are not alone by saying "we" - here is what we are going to do.7. Assume the Best about the Other Person. We hope you enjoy these tips. Share them with your friends. We can all choose to be gentle with our words and be an encouragement to others. In this episode of the Aware Parenting Podcast, which is part of the Foundations of Aware Parenting series, I discuss separation anxiety. I delve into the history and current usage of the term and I contrast Aware Parenting's understanding of separation anxiety with Classical Attachment Parenting's understanding. I explore various causes of separation anxiety, including developmental stages, a need for safety, accumulated feelings, past unhealed separation trauma, and the parent's own past unhealed separation trauma. I also emphasise the effect of cultural beliefs on the understanding of separation anxiety and, as always, I offer lots of compassion to parents and children who are experiencing separation anxiety. I provide practical suggestions, such as the use of separation games and listening to crying and raging, to help both parents and children experience more connection, safety, and healing. I absolutely LOVE this episode with Linde Lambrechts, who has a Masters in Clinical Psychology, and is a Psychotherapist and Aware Parenting instructor. You may recognise her from my trilogy of Aware Parenting books, where she shared her beautiful stories. Linde talks about all kinds of topics in this episode, including reclaiming the beauty of our needs as parents. However, it's the stories she tells half way through the episode that brought us both to tears. She shares about what happened for her after being a beta reader of my latest book, 'All of Your Feelings are Welcome', and the incredible but very subtle and nuanced shifts she made in her presence as a parent, which led to some deeply moving and transformational effects. The stories were in response to aggression, which can be the hardest place for us as parents to embody this quality of loving but powerful presence, when our child is lashing out at us, their sibling, or another child. Hearing her share about what happened is one of the most moving experiences I've ever had on the podcast! You can find out more about Linde and her work at: https://www.lindelambrechts.be/ and https://www.instagram.com/lovinglimits/ My book that we talk about in the podcast is coming out in the next 24 hours! You can find it on Amazon in all countries! It's called, "All of Your Feelings are Welcome!" I'm so delighted to be starting the reparenting series. I'd love to make it very clear that this is NOT Aware Parenting. It's The Marion Method. However, it was profoundly influenced by Aware Parenting, and in some ways is like practicing Aware Parenting with ourselves. Aware Parenting of course includes the importance of honouring our own needs, having community, and listening to our own feelings, but does not include any particular processes – beyond prompts for inner reflection about our childhood and the importance of meeting our needs and expressing our feelings – about of how to do that. Just as the sleep series went alongside me editing my 'Sound Sleep and Secure Attachment with Aware Parenting' book, this series goes with my next book, 'All of Your Feelings are Welcome', which is a combination of The Marion Method and Aware Parenting, and is designed to support reparenting so that we can more easily practice Aware Parenting. This reparenting series also goes alongside the publishing of my oracle cards, which also include inner loving phrases, and a live round of my Inner Loving Presence Process Course, which is a part of The Marion Method. In this episode, I share about my journey as a researcher in infant development, and psychotherapist, and how I saw that practicing Aware Parenting was far more effective than waiting until adulthood and having therapy. However, in my own journey of mothering, and which I saw replicated when I became an Aware Parenting instructor nearly twenty years ago, I was seeing all the ways in which mothers were tending to their children in terms of the three aspects of Aware Parenting, but ignoring their own needs, judging themselves and their parenting, and being harsh with themselves when their own feelings from the past came up to be healed. So I developed the Inner Loving Presences and Inner Loving Presence Process work, which is the Love part of The Marion Method. There is also Will work and Conversations with Life in The Marion Method too. This work was not only Inspired by Aware Parenting. It was also influenced by Nonviolent Communication, by Marshall Rosenberg, Psychosynthesis by Roberto Assagioli (including the sub-personalities work) and The Field Project by Philip Golabuk. In the episode, I share about how the Inner Loving Presences and Inner Loving Presence Process work and the Will and Willingness work work with reparenting. This episode of Amory is very different! It's actually an exchange of WhatsApp messaging with a friend who was sharing a major breakthrough in his healing journey. He describes the moment he realized the pattern between his emotions, and his thoughts...not getting overly identified with them, nor denying them. The ability to "be with" both his emotions and thoughts is creating the space for him to see himself as the loving witness. From that place, he is free to act instead of react, and therefore create the life he truly desires. I am sharing this because his realization is raw and authentic and may support you on your journey of relating (with yourself and others). After I recorded the beginning and ending of this episode, my friend Dojo created an account so you can reach him on Instagram - @bustout_dojo. If you are called to send him a direct message - please do! If you are interested in the 6-month group program, please message megan@amorypodcast.com or DM @amorypodcast It starts June 12th and runs through mid-November with bi-weekly meetings, bi-weekly one-on-one's, weekly videos/exercises, group support and will catalyze your relating to the next level! We all have moments in our lives where trust between relationships breaks. The question always comes up, “If people continue to hurt me, how can I trust that God isn't hurting me too?” In our minds, we know the word says God cares and He won't leave us, but it becomes hard to receive in our hearts when it seems as though relationships become like revolving doors, people regularly coming and going. Feeling spiritually safe is knowing we are saved through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. God is not man. Therefore, He will not act as man does. We can trust Him. In this episode, I walk through what makes a person feel safe, how to feel safe emotionally and spiritually, and five questions to consider to feel safe. How do we know if we are hearing God's voice, the enemy, or our feelings? Hearing God's voice requires us to think about what we are thinking instead of allowing what comes to be to have an ultimate say over our lives. When we bring God's Word into our current thoughts, our thoughts are confronted with two opposing viewpoints. Since Jesus is the embodiment of truth, anything that goes against His Word is a lie. When we realize that Jesus invites us to see His perspective and not ours, then healing comes through His kindness and compassion, extending toward our pain and experiences. Holding both our feelings and God's truth is where we begin to bridge the gap from feeling to healing. Recognizing these patterns allow us to begin to hear God's voice more clearly. To lean on God is to be interdependent with Him. It's knowing that we cannot depend on ourselves alone and that we are also a part of bringing heaven to earth, co-laboring with Christ. However, we struggle to lean on God because our beliefs about God have hindered us from trusting God. Not to mention, God isn't someone who is right in front of us. How can someone care who isn't physically here? In this episode, I'm sharing 3 Bible life lessons from Psalms that help us lean on God. Learning to lean on Him is a process. Trusting God takes being intentional about pursuing His heart and love for us. The depth we know God is the depth we will be able to trust God. Overcoming anxiety isn't about pushing away your feelings, ignoring them, or treating what you are going through like nothing. Overcoming anxiety starts with knowing who God is to you and what you believe He believes about you. In this episode, I explain how our physical response to anxiety is connected to the beliefs we carry about God and how scripture instructs us scriptures to handle our cares and what to do with them. We can spend years building trust and growing deeper into our relationships only for a moment to occur that can begin to slowly destroy the time invested. When that happens, rebuilding broken trust takes time and the intentional pursuit of restoration. In this episode, I'm talking about what happens when trust is broken, how to rebuild trust with that person by taking Biblical action, and how to learn to trust again. I know repairing broken trust is not easy, but time will help begin to rebuild what was broken. However, it will still take intentional steps to rebuild trust. The depth we experience healing is the depth we turn to the Lord and walk out His love for us. Being able to stop stress eating God's way is not about applying scripture to cover up a wound, but rather allowing God to heal the wound. Healing happens when our hearts become aligned with His word and we begin to live from our relationship with Him. In this episode, I explain what stress eating is and why we struggle to stop it. I also offer three practical tips that will help you stop stress eating and lose weight God's way. Unfortunately, there is no quick fix, so don't be discouraged. Overcoming stress eating will take time and intentionality throughout the process. Anxiety has increased so much recently that it's rare to find someone who says they're not managing at least a mild level of anxiousness. If you're a Christian, that anxiety may be compounded by the guilt you feel for your inability to "cast all your cares on Him." In this episode, I'm talking with author, podcast host, and certified NeuroCoach Alicia Michelle about what is happening in our bodies when we experience anxiety, how we can dig out the root of it, and the gift we have to use our God-given power to renew our thoughts. Start by acknowledging your anxiety is real, have grace and compassion for yourself, and allow the Word of God to renew your mind. Scripture talks about three kinds of strongholds. One is a fort, fortress, castle, or secure place (a physical place) to be safe against the enemy's attacks. Another example is when God himself is referred to as our stronghold. The third refers to negative patterns of thinking, prideful thoughts, or worldly messages that have written negative messages on the minds and hearts of believers. In this episode, I'm talking about how you can use God's Word to destroy the negative strongholds in your life. We are called to destroy strongholds, not to compare them, ignore them, or act as though they don't exist. We are to destroy what comes against the Truth, take our thoughts, and make them obedient to Christ. Unfortunately at some point, we all experience heartbreak, whether it be from the loss of a relationship, a friend, or a dream. With that loss comes complex emotions and if we're not intentional, we can get stuck in our pain. In this episode, I'm chatting with Kandace Bateast about what it looks like practically to process through and heal from heartbreak in a healthy way. Kandace is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist, author, and host of the Goodbye Heartbreak, Hello Purpose podcast. Although seasons of heartbreak may be long, we don't have to stay there. God wants to heal us as we find our worth and hope in Him.
