A quest for identity meets the shadows of societal perception. As Rosina struggles to be seen, will she reclaim her voice or remain lost in the darkness? The Invisible Girl by Mary Shelley. That's next on The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast. You may be wondering why this episode of The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast took longer to appear than a ghost at a séance. At the end of The Shunned House by H.P. Lovecraft, we promised you this story. And you probably thought, “Hey, Mary Shelley—the woman who gave us Frankenstein and The Mortal Immortal—must've written another bone-chilling, brain-bending slice of early sci-fi, right?”Then you saw the title: The Invisible Girl. Sounds science fiction-y, doesn't it? Invisibility! Mystery! Possibly lasers!Yeah… about that.Halfway through recording, we realized The Invisible Girl is, well… not quite science fiction. It's more “Victorian drama with a faint whiff of mystery” than “steampunk invisibility ray.” So we had a choice: 1. Stop, confess our literary oopsie, and give you something more sci-fi. 2. Finish the story, release it anyway, and throw ourselves at your mercy. We chose Option 2. Because, frankly, we've gotten good at begging. Would you please rate our podcast wherever you can? Five stars if you think we deserve it. See what I mean!So please forgive us—and enjoy The Invisible Girl by Mary Shelley…Next on The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast, and we promise this one is science fiction! Before David's startled gaze the newcomer placed his right hand to his left shoulder and removed the left arm. He then proceeded to dismember himself until only a torso, head and one arm remained. A man and his uncle set out to scientifically investigate a crumbling home steeped in centuries of death and decay. EPISODE 282 - We finish our coverage of John Byrne's FF with the issue where Sue Richards changes her name from The Invisible Girl to The Invisible Woman. It's a fine issue that mostly features She-Hulk breaking out of Psycho-Man's fear spell. We also learn the story of Pearla, Queen of the Microverse! We give some closing thoughts on John Byrne. For a good John Byrne issue, and there were many you got: strong confident storytelling, exciting purposeful battles, clearly told stories, a strong command of where your eye goes, and what your heart wants to know. Byrne in the 80s was iconic, truly one of the best and most popular creators in America. The shortcomings: his art starts to get sketchier as he strives to produce more. His faces look... honestly, the same? It's almost strange how that DOESN'T hurt the story telling. He gets more and more about the references. Although funny, he's best when he isn't doing a book which is billed as comedic first and foremost. But for the FF, he revitalized the comic, giving Kirby's creations an often upgraded portrayal. Next season: Peter Milligan's run on The Human Target

It covers perpetrator red flags, grooming red flags, and techniques for preventing child sexual abuse. The tone is compelling, providing actionable advice that empowers parents to become proactive in protecting their children and keeping them safe from the dangers of sexual abuse.

Episode 6 - Murdock and Marvel: 1968 Marvel had been a dominant force in the comics world through most of the early and mid 1960s, which is all the more amazing when you realize that they made all the noise they did while limited to publishing only 8 -14 comics a month.  The Marvel contract with their distributor (essentially DC Comics) was up for re-negotiation in 1968, and Martin Goodman used the opportunity to expand the line to a maximum of 24 books instead, giving Stan Lee a much larger canvas for the Marvel Universe.  What did he do with all that new space?  Let's take a look at the year 1968 and find out!  Preshow Reader Mail: Marvel Unlimited Tech Support Reader Mail: Comics in the UK and Deadman Comics The Year in Comics 1968 was a devastating year for America, as the Vietnam conflict deepened and the assassinations of Martin Luther King, Jr and Robert Kennedy seemed to drain hope in our domestic political future.  Comics continued to respond to popular trends, but seemed largely unable to respond effectively to such significant social and political events, especially as they were waited down by the Comics Code Authority and the perception that the medium was “just for kids.”  When mainstream comics tried to step outside the box, it often went poorly.  This was a year where storied companies met their end, a year when amazing new creators started to show what they could do, and a year defined in many ways by comic creators' accelerating search for new markets and avenues of expression. But the information is good, and it is presented in an entertaining fashion.  So its decent, but I would recommend you see if you can just borrow it from the library instead of purchasing.  Wells, John.  American Comic Book Chronicles: 1960-1964.  Raleigh: Two Morrows, 2015.  Not cheap, but a fantastic series that is informative and fun to read.  Wright, Bradford.  Comic Book Nation: The Transformation of Youth Culture in America.  Baltimore: Johns Hopkins University Press, 2001.  This is the revised edition.  Marvel Year By Year: A Visual History.  New York: DK Publishing, 2022.  The academic in my rails at using information from any work that doesn't have an author credit, but this is a decent (if very surface) look at each year in the history of Timely / Marvel from 1939 to 2021.    Cowsill, Alan et al.  DC Comics Year by Year: A Visual History.  New York: DK Publishing, 2010.  Because its nice to occasionally take a peek at what the Distinguished Competition is up to.  Dauber, Jeremy.  American Comics: A History.  New York, W.W. Norton & Company, 2022.  An excellent, relatively compact history of the domestic comic industry from its 19th century origins through to recent 21st century developments.  An excellent successor to Bradford Wright's Comic Book Nation.

Yvonne Sandomir knows what it's like to face challenges. As a survivor of childhood trauma, she wants to be a catalyst for others to overcome suffering and provide hope and inspiration for trauma victims everywhere, showing that healing is possible with time and effort. Her story will surely resonate with anyone who has ever felt helpless in the face of adversity. Yvonne is a survivor of sexual abuse, incest, parental domestic abuse, alcoholism, drug addiction, and dysfunctional families. These experiences led her to feel invisible and worthless for many years. But eventually, she realized that she was not alone. Other people out there had met similar challenges, and she embarked on a journey to support victims and provide resources for them to heal and become stronger. Proof that you can break the intergenerational cycles of abuse, Yvonne is also a cognitive behavioral life coach and advocates for sexual, incest, and parental domestic abuse who uses her life as an instrument of hope. Through her work, Yvonne helps people identify and achieve their goals. But she doesn't just stop there. Yvonne also specializes in mindfulness techniques, which help people live in the present and not be held back from their past. She states, My memoir "The Invisible Girl" is my truth. "It's my story and voice--something I've wanted to share for a long time." Her memoir sheds light on the often-hidden world of child sexual abuse and offers hope for healing to those who have experienced it themselves or know someone who has. It is an essential read for anyone affected by this devastating issue. As a survivor of multiple childhood traumas, Sandomir knows firsthand the devastation that hidden childhood trauma can cause later in life – both to individuals and families alike. Yvonne channeled her experiences into writing "The Invisible Girl." But she didn't want to stop there. She wanted to do more to help people still struggling with the aftermath of their trauma. That's when she decided to launch the Survivor Strong podcast for survivors of childhood trauma. Yvonne Sandomir is set to pave her way as the face of perseverance. She has ventured on the journey of intense psychotherapy and is proof that you can break intergenerational cycles of abuse. She believes sexual abuse, especially when it goes undetected and untreated, can have debilitating consequences into adulthood which she has poignantly illustrated in "The Invisible Girl." Yvonne is not only an advocate and author; her life is also a personal brand. She hopes to be a vessel for survivors of childhood trauma, allowing them to feel less alone and encouraging them to tell their stories. Yvonne hopes her book and upcoming projects will help others who have experienced childhood trauma find their path to healing. To date, she found peace within herself and started living the life she deserved—a life free from intergenerational abuse and full of joy and possibility. https://theinvisiblegirlmemoir.comwww.survivorstrongpodcast.com

On the FF side of things, we start with the fate of Galactus and Frankie Raye, and we end with the beginning of a Dr. Doom story ("Too Many Dooms!"). Both fine issues. But in the middle we have one of the best FF issues ever, and certainly one of the signature issues of John Byrne's run - #245 "Childhood's End." It's Byrne's thesis statement on Susan RIchards, The Invisible Girl. What makes her special, powerful, indispensible? It is demonstrated masterfully in this tale, where Susan takes on a mysterious enemy so powerful he dispenses with Reed Ben and Johnny with little more than a thought. Two Milksops up! On the correspondence side, we get into some corrections on more Will Hines factual errors, a request for a no-prize (denied, for the first time ever) and a discussion of the inimitable Forbush Man. __ SHOW INFORMATION Twitter: @ScrewItComics Instagram: @ScrewItComics Email: ScrewItComics@gmail.com Subscribe: Apple Podcasts Subscribe: Spotify

Enjoy! SYNOPSIS (courtesty of Wiki): Knocked into the Thames River by a bomb blast, the Thing saves Spider-Woman and brings her to shore. Indebted to him, she tells him of her forced servitude in Hydra and agrees to help him rescue Alicia. While the two criminals continue to search for their lost treasure -- which turns out to be stolen from British Treasury during World War II -- They have almost completed collecting the plates needed to assemble a map pointing out the location of the treasure. Meanwhile, Hyrda exposes Alicia to the serum they synthesized based on Spider-Woman and mutates her into a woman-spider creature, restoring her sight technologically. Ordering her to destroy the Thing and Spider-Woman, Alicia attacks them and their battle takes them across the city of London, finally ending in a department store where the Alicia-creature catches Ben in a spider-web. As Ben and Spider-Woman continue to battle the spider-mutated Alicia Masters, the two criminals searching for the long lost stolen treasure of World War II. They find the treasure they sought, however, when they open the treasure chest, they find themselves sucked into it by mystical forces. As the battle between Ben, Spider-Woman, and Alicia rages on, Ben smashes the control module on her forehead. Losing their ability to control Alicia thanks to the destruction of this device, the Hydra agent in charge of this mission is ordered killed by the Supreme Hydra for his failure. Alicia has the two heroes on the ropes until the Invisible Girl arrives. Using her invisible force fields, Sue manages to cut off Alicia's oxygen supply until she passes out. While Dr. Kort tries to restore Alicia back to normal, Thing wanders around London brooding. To make Ben feel worse, the people of London who originally treated him with celebrity when he first arrived are now treating him as a monster following the battle. Sue tracks down Ben and tells her that Alicia is calling out to him, and so they return to Kort's lab just as Alicia is being transformed back to normal.normal. Taking a trip to Stonehenge, Alicia and the Thing are secretly followed by Spider-Woman. Meanwhile, the chest uncovered by thieves looking for lost World War II treasure unleash a mystical force. Arriving at Stonehenge, Thing and Alicia are confronted by four elemental demons: Fire, Aero, Hydro, and Mud. Their appearance forces Spider-Woman to reveal herself and defend Ben and Alicia. The trio is all transported below Stonehenge where they find that all the tourists have been transported to and are being kept as prisoners. The elementals explain that they were summoned to capture Mordred the mystic for Merlin, who has recently been revived in modern times. They have vowed to capture Mordred even if it means the destruction of the Earth. As the elementals are explaining their mission, Ben and Spider-Woman attack them but prove unable to make any lasting damage against them. When all seems lost, Mordred arrives to answer the elementals challenge. While Mordred and Spider-Woman battle the elementals, Ben goes looking for Alicia. Mordred transports himself, the elementals, and Spider-Woman back to the surface where Mordred uses his magic to convince the elementals to fight each other. Each opposing element pitted against each other and being destroyed. After the battle, Mordred transports everyone back to the surface and erases the tourist's memories of the experience. Afterward, Ben and Alicia depart leaving Mordred to take Spider-Woman under his arm and take her on as an apprentice. VENOM BLASTS (things to look out for in episode)!! “We've been fighting to save girls' lives and end gendercide in India” - Jill McElya Today's show is not like many others that I have recorded so I want to warn you before pressing play that there are some triggering stories. My guest on today's episode is Jill McElya, President and Co-Founder of the Invisible Girl Project. IGP rescues girls in India from the danger of female gendercide, advocates for their healing, and empowers them through education. Jill shares with me the story of when she moved to India to work with IJM,  the moment God laid on her and her husband's heart to start The Invisible Girl Project, her heart to end gendercide in India, and how she met her husband Brad while on a mission trip in India. There is a point in this episode when Jill tells a story about a woman and her husband that left me heartbroken but hopeful because of the work that's being done with The Invisible Girl Project. What is happening to women and young girls in India is heartbreaking and I am so thankful for people like Jill, her husband, Brad, and many others who are empowering other women and men to fight against female gendercide and feticide in India.  Connect with JamieFacebook //  Instagram // YouTubeGET ALL THE LINKS FROM THE SHOW HERE

Welcome to Episode #5 of Unbreakable Spirit.  In this episode you'll hear the fascinating story of Jill Perla.  Jill grew up in a family of 5, with a sister that was a "rubella child".  Her sister had hearing and sight problems and Jill adopted the role in the family of interpreter for her sister.  Although she developed amazing communication skills; Jill was always in the background, the "unseen", or invisible child.  Jill struggled to overcome her extreme introversion (she even had fainting spells).  She found her way to a very successful career, managing a large trade organization meeting.  You'll want to hear how she gave up that career and picked up her paintbrush to begin a new career in art, following her true passion.   Follow this link for your listeners to receive a free 30-day trial of Creative KickstART  https://www.joincreativekickstart.com/freetrial  Connect with Jill www.jillperlaart.com Instagram @jillperlaart Facebook @jillperlaart Linked In @JillCPerla   Connect with Jennifer Seven 7Company podcasts Follow Unbreakable Spirit on Facebook Follow Unbreakable Spirit on Instagram 7Company Weight Loss & Wellness  Get your copy of the book  right here on Amazon  UnBreakable Spirit The Sisterhood Folios   12 remarkable and courageous women take you through their journeys.
