Chris & Filly are joined with one of our fabulous incredible clients from our Ending Body Burnout Method program. When Melissa first started working with us, it was clear to see that she had created a successful business and was killing it in her profession, but the toll of many years of hustling and grinding building and running her business - as well as juggling a blended family and dealing with trauma - had taken a massive toll on her body. Mel was struggling with severe bloating, pain and constipation, she'd stacked on weight, was exhausted and feeling anxious and overwhelmed. Mel went ALL-IN on her healing journey, following every body systems protocol set up for her, based on her labs - and, even more importantly, learning to reconnect with herself, clear past trauma, let go of self-limiting beliefs and create more spaciousness in her life to deeply love and care for her self. These real-life stories are super special - I call them “evidence collecting”. Evidence that healing IS possible. The more you can hear and see this, the more it becomes possible for you! So we are so incredibly grateful to the wonderful Mel, for coming on the show today, to spread hope and healing with others. About Melissa Marsden: Melissa Marsden is a workplace strategist, business coach, author, and podcast host dedicated to creating supportive and dynamic work environments. With over 12 years leading COMUNiTI, Mel guides corporate and government teams in designing workplaces that align with their values and enhance human potential. She's the author of The Next Workplace and hosts Work Life by Design, one of Australia's top workplace podcasts. Mel's approach blends strategy with heart, innovation with intuition, and ambition with alignment. She also coaches women entrepreneurs to build businesses that reflect their values and lifestyle, avoiding burnout. As a multi-award-winning entrepreneur and Telstra Business Women's Awards finalist, Mel's passion for business and innovation is matched by her commitment to empowering others. In this episode, Mel chats to Chris & Filly about: How Mel supports businesses and corporate teams to create an environment that is in alignment with the team's vision, and to support wellbeing and productivity Why Mel reached out to us - chronic constipation that had flared up with severe bloating post-breastfeeding, weight gain, overwhelm and emotional dysregulation The frustration of getting nowhere with doctors, colonoscopies, scans and low-fodmap dieting The validation that came from discovering body system imbalances (adrenal fatigue, SIBO, detox and gallbladder issues) on functional labs, and how it gave her permission to slow down and rest Getting to the deeper root-cause of “busy” burnout patterns and saying yes to everyone to try and get external significance What it looked like to rewire, reprogram and let go of dysfunctional self-beliefs, stories, trauma and repressed emotion - getting out of “Mentally” trying to “let things go”, and fully embodying the process How Mel now has more flow, presence, slowness, and how her health, life and business has changed because of the deep healing Mel's new coaching and retreat focus, and how she's helping other women in business get out of burnout and connect with themselves Show Note Links: Find more about Melissa and her business here Join the WAITLIST for our Ending Body Burnout Method to access over $500 worth of early-bird bonuses and secure your spot (limited spaces available as our program includes 1:1 consults/coaching) While you're waiting for doors to open to the Method, get started with a Connect The Dots Initial Consult Take our Ending Body Burnout Assessment HERE Disclaimer: This Ending Body Burnout Show podcast and any information, advice, opinions or statements within it do not constitute medical, health care or other professional advice, and are provided for general information purposes only. Leadership, it has been said, is like the Abominable snowman – its footprints are everywhere but is it never to be seen! In other words, we recognise it when we experience it, even if we can't quite put our finger on what it actually is. There is at least a half a dozen or more theories of leadership with even more descriptions of leadership styles and literally countless definitions of it. All too often the focus is on the characteristics and competencies of individuals leaders rather than on the process of leadership. Within our context of Getting to Better Together, it is perhaps best understood as a property of a group of people that, under appropriate circumstances, just emerges as a collective commitment to doing something that leads to ‘betterment'.   The best definition that we have found from this perspective is that presented by the American philosopher Julia Ciulla: Leadership is not a person or a position. It is a complex moral relationship between people, based on trust, obligation, commitment, emotion, and a shared vision of the good. Most significantly, it is a process that must be inclusive, most especially for those who so often, are not included in development initiatives which often ignore core moral issues such as lack of respect for gender equality or for the inequities of those who are disempowered because of their race, or their religious beliefs, or their age or migration status.    These matters of inclusion, empowerment and leadership lie close to the heart of Richard's guest in this episode of the podcast which he hosts from the Centre of International Development, Social Entrepreneurship and Leadership (CIDSEL) at the University of the Sunshine Coast: Jeanette Allom-Hill is the CEO of Sunshine Coast-based Lionhearted Foundation. Jeanette has held senior private sector leadership positions at Optus, NBN Australia, and Microsoft, as well as working across all levels of government, with senior roles in several government departments. After moving to the Sunshine Coast five years ago, she was group executive at the Sunshine Coast Regional Council, a role which culminated in her receiving the Telstra Business Women's Award in the Public Sector and Academia category in 2020.

I LOVE a plan. Sitting down and formulating the pathway to achieve mine or my client's dreams is the stuff I live for. She has spent over 20 years guiding organisations to leverage their physical environments to elevate employee experience, empower high performing teams and unleash productivity. Her design and business brilliance have been recognised by the Australian Institute of Management, Design Institute of Australia and Telstra Business Women's Awards among many others. She is also the host of the Work Life by Design podcast which I have been a special guest interviewing her about her recently published book, The Next Workplace.  She sounds like a rock star right? She is!  But even rock stars get thrown curve balls and that is what Mel is sharing with us in this episode. Because about 18 months ago - behind the very polished, gorgeous looking business and woman, life was most definitely not going according to her well-thought out plan. Business was exploding, her team was imploding, there was a surprise pregnancy, looming book and client work deadlines coming in one after the other.  I have been privileged to have worked with Mel before, during and after this period and I have marvelled at her grace and resilience through all of these plot twists.  In our chat, Mel shares her experience of what it's really like to build a business, write a book AND have a baby all at the same time.  I am so thankful that Mel agreed to have this conversation because I know that right now, a lot of people's businesses and lives may not be going according to plan. If this is the case for you, please know that you are not alone. In the very first episode of Pharmacy View Podcast's Pharmacy Career, Resource & Training, we are joined by host, Kavita Nadan, Pharmacist, and Founder at Locumate, and guest, Karen Brown, Managing Partner at TerryWhite Chemmart, Co-Founder & Director at Batch Tested and Pharmacy Redefined. Listen in as the two passionate Pharmacists talk about the Pharmaceutical Industry at large and how Pharmacies across the country sit at the cusp of transformation in the near future. Karen, in their own words, wears many hats. In addition to being an Award-winning Pharmacist and Pharmacy Owner, Karen is a Founder, a Director, a Leader, a Speaker, and most importantly, a wife and a mother. Having said that, they see synergy in everything that they do and say that at the core of it all is their want to help people—helping their team members be better people, helping their patients get healthier, helping the community achieve better results. They believe that whether in sports or in business, they are people managers who bring together a group of individuals to achieve a common goal. Having done so much across sectors, when asked what their top three pieces of advice for someone starting something completely different, their prompt response was · Take your blinkers off · Say yes to opportunities · Build the plane while you're flying it (don't wait for it to be perfect before you launch it) Having said that in their own business, Karen knows how one person as a Pharmacy Owner doesn't need to know everything and should rather take on the challenges while surrounding themselves with a team of experts. Their advice being, “You need to get comfortable being uncomfortable.” Karen, a firm believer in their mission to challenge the status quo and to redefine how people view community Pharmacy, is no stranger to awards and accolades. They are the Winner of Australian and Qld TerryWhite Chemmart of the Year - Arana Hills 2022, Winner of Small Business Person of the Year - Dickson Australia Day Community Awards 2021, Finalist in the Rhonda White Leadership Award 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and Nominee for Telstra Business Women's Award 2019, 2020, among others. They believe their work reflects the mark they have left in redefining community Pharmacy. Even though there is validation, they believe that as a team they need to understand that so long as good work is done, the community responds to that. Talking about what Pharmacies need to focus on, they share about · investing heavily in personal development for the team as they strongly believe that people want to belong to something bigger than themselves and people want to belong in a team; · investing in professional development and finding the right person for the right job. Karen believes that the Pharmaceutical Industry is sitting at the precipice of something huge and they are excited about the endless possibilities that the future has in store. They think that in the near future there will be boutique health hubs and more work will be driven toward specialty services and niching. And even though at the core each Pharmacy will still be the same, the customer journey and use of technology will evolve. When asked about Owner's Summit. Karen elaborates how ownership can be lonely and how contrary to popular assumption, Pharmacy owners are not competitors, they are one another's biggest cheerleaders rather. They add that instead of doom and gloom, people need to come together, share ideas, and have the courage to be vulnerable in a safe space so that together they can work towards better outcomes. Karen shares how it is important to not just share ideas but also understand how the shared ideas are handled so that the fear of rejection doesn't plague team members. As they iterate, the pillars remain the betterment of health, team, and community.

This week we have the remarkable Mandy Burns on the podcast. Mandy started as a CEO of Variety Victoria mid December 2019 and previously worked with the new social network platform B Collective to take it from a tech start-up to a global movement. She has practised as a psychologist, relationship counsellor and educator in both Melbourne and Perth and I'm so grateful to have her unstoppable energy on the show today.    Mandy has held numerous national and local NFP board roles, led networking and support of women events, and has been recognised by Victoria's Children's Community and Telstra Business Women's Awards.    In our conversation, we're exploring Mandy's passion for doing everything she can to impact the lives of children and the environment.    Mandy is making it count by taking responsibility. This manifests for her in different ways, including volunteering, picking up rubbish on beaches, living her social justice ideals and working with children.    If we accept something we know is wrong, we become part of the problem.    Mandy explores her CEO role in Variety Children's Charity, her background sitting on boards for charities, the inspiration that came from learning about youth homelessness, the vulnerability of being a leader, the challenges of leadership (while wearing undies on the outside and a cape!), and the key attributes that a modern leader absolutely needs in 2022.    It fills Mandy's heart with joy to make a difference in the lives of children. She shares how her friends, family, values, working with amazing people and benefiting from their collective wisdom keep her anchored every day.    Mandy is such an inspirational leader who advises us to make it count by taking responsibility in our lives and never doubt that a small group of people can truly change the world.    LINKS:   Connect with Mandy Burns:  LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/mandy-burns-45b87023/ Website: https://www.variety.org.au/vic/people/mandy-burns/    Connect with Julie: Instagram: @juliehydeleads Website: https://juliehyde.com.auSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

A shift in the way we farm is vital to ensure our survival. We must begin to foster a regenerative agricultural system that will produce more food while sequestering carbon and capturing water. In addition, we need to embrace practices that replenish soil fertility, retain nutrients, and protect our waterways. This will provide increased resilience of landscapes and communities Regenerative agriculture offers a solution to different farming practices. Farmers are key to creating a sustainable future. With enough support and collaboration from other people they can change the system and create resilient farms that can stand the test of time. Working together and empowering farmers aims to inspire them through knowledge sharing and skills development, so they can improve their business while improving the environment. Working together means they have more power to achieve what's important to each individual farm or in the community. ---------- Who is Lorraine Gordon? Lorraine Gordon is a beef producer from Ebor in NSW. She has had an extensive career in agricultural leadership. In this episode, I interview Mellissa Larkin, the Founder, and CEO of Peripheral Blue, a company that has been disrupting the way companies receive legal and consulting services by giving clients access to top tier, responsive legal and advisory services in a flexible and affordable way. Peripheral Blue provides legal advice and business advisory services to clients of all sizes including SMEs and ASX 200 companies across a broad range of industries including health, energy, IT, construction, rail, hospitality, food, and manufacturing.  Mellissa is responsible for recruiting and managing PB Lawyers, Law Clerks, PB Consultants, and support staff. As well as developing and refining the strategic growth plans for the business. She was the 2020 Telstra Business Women’s Awards Winner, a 2019 Telstra Business Awards Finalist, and a finalist in the Women in Law Awards in two categories: Innovator of the Year (Individual) and Wellness Advocate of the Year. After 20 years in corporate law in 2016 aged 38 and with three young kids, she started a new type of law firm to disrupt the market.  Questioning what value juniors gave to clients when they were being charged to clients to effectively learn on the job, the company only has highly efficient and experienced lawyers with 20+ years in the game. Mellissa started as the one full-time employee and they’re now up to nine, and sales have grown 267% year on year over the four years. The business has been funded entirely from profits. They are obsessive about culture and changed theirs to a collaborative one, not competitive amongst colleagues for billable work, putting value for clients front and center. Mellissa felt they had succeeded when they won their first big piece of work then won a large old client. She feels the hardest thing about growing a small business is accepting the risks and making it happen. The one thing she says she would tell herself on day one of starting out in business is, “You can do this” Please join me in welcoming Mellissa Larkin from Peripheral Blue in beautiful Adelaide, Australia. This Cast Covers: Disrupting the legal and consulting service industries in Australia by doing things differently to deliver great value to clients. Fostering more collaboration and changing their culture to achieve more efficiency. Creating a business model that invests heavily in building solid and long-term relationships. The challenge they had explaining their new way of doing things in a way that clients could connect with. Their genuine and authentic attitude towards helping their clients and how it worked in their favor in terms of customer attention and conversion. How taking the first six months of the law firm to build on the new concept helps in ensuring the firm’s success. Transitioning to business ownership and the difficulty she had in breaking the mindsets and habits of working in corporate. Starting from zero to sustaining a 267% growth year on year while maintaining a great culture From one full-time employee to nine within just four years. The big moment when she realized that her firm could go for the big commission corporate work. The importance of being clear on who your client avatar is and what your messaging is. Hiring top-tier trained lawyers who have worked in-house or for the government. Funding the business from her own funds and growing it purely from cash flow. Pushing herself out of her comfort zone to learn about marketing and selling. The stress of making the necessary decisions and risks to facilitate growth. In this episode, I interview Rhiannon Beach, the Founder of Pups4Fun, Canberra’s leading dog daycare and dog adventure center specializing in behavior-based service. Pups4Fun offers daycare, playgroups, and out and about excursions, activities usually associated with children. Rhiannon was ahead of the curve when she started Pups4Fun, tapping into the sentiment that animals in a household were not just pets, but members of the family. Her journey into small business ownership started in 2005 when was completing her high school. A great teacher pushed her to enter a business plan competition and she went on to win the Australasian award. Aged 19 in 2008, she started a law degree part-time and launched the dog daycare, walking, and sitting business. There were only two other dog daycare businesses in Australia at the time. They currently walk up to 50 dogs at a time and take them to unusual locations like the war memorial. Rhiannon clearly has a passion for dog wellness. The business has grown every year, on average at 180%, from herself alone to now 29 full-time employees. When she launched the business, the industry was worth $3.8 Billion per annum in Australia and is now at $12 Billion.  In 2017, she bought another salon 30 kilometers away and two years later, she closed it and brought 98% of the customers to headquarters. At the end of 2008, she got a $10,000 loan for a few months from her father to replace her 1982 small car. That is the only financing she has ever had. In late 2013, she had burnout which led to an infection in her brain and it took 6 months for her to recover, but it was the best thing to ever happen to her. She had to let go, trust her team, and let them run the business. She felt she succeeded when she achieved work-life balance and started getting great feedback from clients.  She believes the hardest thing about growing a small business is, “Sacrifices you make and letting go” She shares that the one thing she would tell herself on day one of starting out in business is, “Set systems and procedures up to where you want to be, not where you are now” Sit back, relax and enjoy as Rhiannon shares her awesome small business ownership story. This Cast Covers: Caring for 500 dogs a week in a way that encourages the dogs to be good social citizens. Starting one of the first dog daycare centers in Australia while also studying law. Valuing and standing strong on the pricing strategy for their high-end prestige service. Achieving an average growth rate of 180% every year for the last 13 years. Aiming at creating credibility for other people in the pet industry so other people can understand that it’s a serious business. Buying a grooming salon and how it contributed to their expansion. Running things from their head office location with an offsite location where they do the dog daycare from. Considering going into the statewide market and looking at franchising as a growth option. Having a great team that enabled her to find work-life balance. Valuing their customers and the great feedback they get from them because of their great work. Constantly conducting short customer surveys to stay informed of their customer satisfaction and loyalty. Remembering not to assume that your customers’ beliefs and values are not the same as yours as the small business owner. Growing the business purely from cash flow by starting small and having financial discipline. The challenges she faced from the business’ rapid growth and how she had to battle a life-threatening disease brought on by burnout. Working with her staff to build the great culture they have now. The value of having the flexibility to travel and do what she wants to do. The importance of trusting your employees to run the business without you, trusting your gut, and having advisors. Basing their recruiting process on their values to ensure they hire the most fitting employees. Acknowledging that the risk, sacrifice, and time you’ve put into building your business entitles you to have a life. Investing in heaps of both formal and informal professional development and learning from other small business owners. The impact of winning at the 2020 Telstra Business Women’s Awards. Advocating for good accounting software and systems and processes for every small business. Recorded at Online Retailer 2017 in Sydney, here we chat with Irene Falcone, founder & CEO of NourishedLife.com.au, to take a close look at the sustainability of pure-play models: - Why more and more online retailers are opening stores - Do you need a store or does the problem lie elsewhere Irene Falcone is the founder and CEO of Nourished Life. A store that provides sustainable, eco-friendly, and natural personal care, beauty & lifestyle products – all backed by substantiated information.
