We're back in the booth and ready to unload on the last 48 hours of Em and Michael's holiday in the US and we've got A LOT to unpack. We begin with the full rundown on their decision to hike a mountain in Palms Springs in 46 degree heat, it did not end well. Speaking of things not ending well, we also squeeze in a mental side-quest about the news of that hectic Delta flight that had to turn around after an explosive diarrhoea incident, because of course we do. Then it's on to their road trip to see Lady Gaga doing her jazz and piano show in Vegas, with a full breakdown of the abundant highlights and hilarious moments from before, during and after that show. That's swiftly followed by their night with Beyonce in LA, a visit to the original Dr Patrick, Matt Le Nevez and we've gotta talk about the return of Michael's TV series ‘The Newsreader', which premieres on the ABC Sunday night. So nestle into your favourite listening space and press play on this ginormous download of all of the things and enjoy. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
It'll be a while before we have firm numbers, but it looked like Small Business Saturday was an overall success this year, with more people planning to shop local on Saturday than overall on Black Friday. It could be hopeful sign for local businesses that sometimes struggle against national big box competition. Stores of all kinds were generally busy over the Thanksgiving Day weekend. Americans can move on from the pandemic if they keep their immunity up to date. This from White House COVID-19 Response Coordinator Dr. Ashish Jha on ABC Sunday. He says he's optimistic, but still concerned about a "triple-demic" of COVID, flu, and RSV. The Biden administration is launching a six-week campaign for Americans to get their booster shots. Not many have so far. The nation's fourth largest city, Houston, is under a boil water notice until at least tomorrow, after a power outage at its main water plant allowed water pressure to fall below minimum standards. Everybody in the city has to boil any water they plan to use for cooking, drinking, bathing or brushing teeth for at least three minutes until the order is lifted. Notre Dame football finished the regular season Saturday night with a 38-27 loss at Southern Cal. The 8-and-4 Irish now await a bowl bid in the next couple of weeks. Purdue earned a berth in the Big Ten title game this Saturday by beating Indiana 30-to-16. The Boilers get 2nd ranked Michigan on Saturday in Indianapolis, following the Wolverines' 45-to-23 win at Ohio State. Sunday NFL scores: the Chicago Bears lost to the Jets in New York, 31-to-10. The Philadelphia Eagles beat the Green Bay Packers last night, 40-to-33. The Indianapolis Colts play tonight at home against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Hockey: the Chicago Blackhawks lost at home to Winnipeg, 7-to-2. The Redwings host Toronto tonight in Detroit.

Belinda Chayko is early awaiting her new TV series 'Fires' to debate on ABC Sunday 27th of September at 8:40pm - which is another highly anticipated Tony Ayres collaboration. The series does follow the 2019-2020 fires that devastated Australia and you won't want to miss a moment of this highly emotive piece that will leave you thinking about our duty to the planet for days. The actors are first class, with Miranda Otto, Richard Roxbourogh, Sam Worthington and Noni Hazelhurst - just to name a few. There are some outstanding performances by the younger cast Eliza Scandalin and Hunter Page Lochard… which makes you realise we have a new generation of talent brewing in our country. Belinda will talk about the urgency of the story, the creation of the characters, amongst a lot of additional behind the scenes stories we will also address, if in fact this story is too close to home and why it might not be for everyone. Belinda is smart intelligent woman and by the end of this chat I am sure you will be compelled to check out her back cater loge of television credits.

"Do We Care About This Year's Oscars?"The coveted statuettes will be given out during a broadcast on ABC Sunday evening, April 25. Steve and Kate predict winners in major categories such as best director, actor and actress—you'll have to see if we're right. But we find ourselves less than excited about this year's nominees. Is that because the pandemic nixed the communal experience of seeing a film with a crowd in a theater, or because the nominees themselves are underwhelming? When "Mank" Doesn't Move Us"Mank," one of this year's best picture nominees, got us wondering about this. Seeing the behind-the-scenes writing of "Citizen Kane" appealed to the film nerd in Steve, but as the final credits rolled he found himself curiously unmoved by the movie. Hear our thoughts on "Mank" and the other nominees by listening to "Do We Care About This Year's Oscars?"A Playlist PuzzlerIn honor of movie's big night, Popahallics #33 Playlist consists of 13 songs directly inspired by specific movies in the past.
