Em Rusciano is a writer, a singer, a stand up comedian, a maximalist power Queen, a neuro-divergent magic brain and the host and creator of Emsolation and together with her best friend since she was 11, AACTA and Logie Award winning screenwriter, Mr Michael Lucas, they bring you this podcast. Together they go deep on the shallow, covering everything from pop culture to politics, divas to drag queens, sing-a-longs to side quests, it's the podcast for anyone who loves a little bit of hectic with added wheezy laughing fits thrown in.
Michael Paynter is one of Em's best friends, they've worked together on her music, he also has mad singing skills (best believe that he is a SING-GER!) which he's currently showing off 8 times a week, playing Jesus in the latest version of the Andrew Lloyd Webber rock opera ‘Jesus Christ Superstar'. Together they'll discuss his awe inspiring take on the role of Jesus, from why he chose to accept the gig, the part Mahalia Barnes played in his decision, through to the enormity of taking on this kind of role and the emotional toll it takes on him during each performance. Plus Em asks him how he prepares himself before a show and what it's like to take on a musical like this when he's never even acted or done musical theatre before. Then in our Sealed Section, on our premium service Emsolation Extra, Em and Michael Paynter give you an extra 35 minutes where they discuss how they first met, their shared love of John Peter Farnham and both of them work their way through a bunch of hilarious and revealing rapid fire questions. Michael will also truly captivate you and prove his status as a SING-GER by singing his favourite John Farnham song ‘Burn For You'. This is the episode that we hope might go some way to helping you change your life. If you're a regular listener of Emsolation, you'll know Em is deep in the throes of perimenopause and judging by the flood of DM's and comments she gets whenever she mentions it, she is definitely not alone. There's a thirst for knowledge which is why Em has decided to get an expert in, her name is Dr Stacy Sims, she's an international exercise physiologist and nutrition scientist with an MSc and PhD, who is on a mission to help us better understand the nuances of the female body, so you can build strength and longevity, she's also in perimenopause. Inspired by the appalling lack of research done specifically on women in regards to exercise, nutrition, and medicine, Dr Stacy wrote the books ‘ROAR' and ‘Next Level' and created her TEDx talk ‘Women Are Not Small Men'. Dr Stacy specialises in how our bodies needs change over our lifetime, and how exercise, nutrition and medicine can help us deal with the impacts of perimenopause and menopause. In this episode the part of Em Rusciano will be played by a hollow shell of a woman on the verge of collapse, mmmkay? Once we've acknowledged that and the end of Em's Outgrown tour, we need to move on to the disturbing reaction to the murder of Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson. His alleged killer, Luigi Mangione is being lusted over & celebrated with glowing comments & deep dives into his thirst trap pics, especially in the gay community. This week Em and Michael are sitting down with one of Em's besties, Zambian-born Australian journalist, historian, author and filmmaker Santilla Chingaipe, for an eye opening chat about her new book that is rewriting the history of this country. Recognised by the United Nations in 2019 as one of the most influential people of African descent in the world, Santilla has spent the last 7 years researching and writing her debut non fiction book ‘Black Convicts' which is in stores now. ‘Black Convicts' builds on the research Santilla did for her critically acclaimed and award-winning documentary ‘Our African Roots'which is still streaming on SBS On Demand. It is fascinating to hear how colonial record keepers white washed parts of our history, silencing the lives of people like David Stuurman, a revered South African chief transported for anti-colonial insurrection; John Caesar, who became Australia's first bushranger; Billy Blue, the stylishly dressed ferryman who gave his name to Sydney's Blues Point; and William Cuffay, a prominent London Chartist who led the development of Australia's labour movement. ‘Black Convicts' is bound to change the way we think about who we are, buy your copy here https://shorturl.at/Jjk2V. Hannah Diviney is a writer, disability advocate, actress, screenwriter, author and media personality. Her disability advocacy has garnered global attention thanks to both a viral petition encouraging Disney to create a disabled Disney Princess and a successful campaign encouraging both Lizzo and Beyonce to change ableist lyrics. As if that wasn't enough, she also made television history as the first disabled person in Australia to do a sex scene on television in the SBS series, ‘Latecomers' and she's joining Em to talk about some of those things plus her feature film debut in the new dark comedy ‘Audrey'. Together they'll discuss what it was like to see Marissa Bode as the first disabled actor to play the role of Nessarose in ‘Wicked' and then interview her afterwards as well. We'll also talk about what it's like to be in her first feature film, how she secured the role and even how the script was changed to reflect her abilities as well. Hannah is utterly hilarious as well and they both connect over their shared love of awkward conversations and Em's belief that Hannah needs to get her sit down comedy career underway as well. It's the moment SOME of us thought would never happen, and that some of us is Em, because AS IF this would ever happen! How could it be possible that Em would get to sit across from Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, two sing-gers, and the leads of the new movie version of her all time favourite musical Wicked? Somehow, Em not only got to do chats with Cynthia and Ariana, who play Elphaba & Glinda in the movie, but also Marissa Bode who plays Elphaba's sister Nessarose, and Ethan Slater, who's Ariana Grande's boyfriend and also appears in the film as the lovable munchkin Boq. Watch or listen as Em keeps Cynthia and Ariana entertained throughout their chat, from informing them of the neurodivergent love of the musical, to giving them props for the final result and so much more. Then there's Em's chat with Marissa and Ethan, where they reveal how they found out they were cast in the Wicked movie and a heap of other stuff too. It is the ultimate must watch before the movie drops November 21. It's role reversal time as Em steps into the ep fresh from chairing a staff meeting, while Michael turns up unhinged, unslept and agitated, huzzah! We find out why Michael is feeling such to begin. Then it's on to Lidia Thorpe's confrontation with King Charles and why we think it was an inspiring and refreshing thing to witness. We follow that with more US politics chat, from Trump dancing at a Town hall for 35 minutes, to Elon Musk giving away a million dollars to right wing registered voters in US swing states, there's a lot of horrifying updates to cover. Finally, Em is officially adopting ‘Agatha All Along' as her personality and she's mad keen to convince Michael to get over his Marvel aversion, and dive right in. We also get some astrology, manifestation and curse chat, plus the lowdown on Elio's demands for Chellas upcoming birthday party, and Em's MRI is approaching, so the hair extensions are about to be removed. . Then in our Sealed Section, on our premium service Emsolation Extra, Em's convinced that Hollywood actor and all round nice guy, Andrew Garfield is secretly a f-boy and she's got all the evidence to prove it. The invite to end all invites has landed in Em's inbox and it is confirmed, Em is off to the Australian premiere of the new ‘Wicked' movie in Sydney. She's also hitting up the press junket and hoping she gets to chat with her actual hero Cynthia Erivo, as well as Ariana Grande and Jeff Goldblum. Inside you'll get to hear Em's plan of attack, plus outfit explains for both her interview and red carpet appearance and so much more. Then, as society slowly comes around to the idea that middle age women are an untapped resource worth catering to, we've found two new things targeted at women over 40 worthy of your attention. The first is a full review of the new Netflix movie ‘Lonely Planet' where Laura Dern and Liam Hemsworth have a passionate affair whilst on a writer's retreat. Then it's onto the new book ‘All Fours' from Miranda July, which is part absurd entertainment, part tender reinvention of the sexual, romantic and domestic life of a 45-year-old female artist. I mean, what could there possibly be in this book that Em might connect with? Everyone who's anyone has recommended ‘All Fours' to Em, and having finally read it she's now recommending it to everyone too, from perimenopausal peeps to your partner, this book is worth your time. CW // discussion of stroke symptoms Em has never been afraid to roll around in the dark stuff of life, today we are coming in dry, so grab your ankles Australia, because this story isn't anything you could anticipate and there's a lot to process. Em is joining us this week with an update from an incident that happened to her over the weekend which culminated in Em making frantic calls from the side of the road and her husband Scott calling an ambulance to come and help her. Having typed out over 1000 words at 1am last night so she could unpack the incident, Em will read it all out as is, so we get her full train of thought and feels on the moment as she relives it. We follow that up by chatting to our special guest, Sydney based actor, writer, producer and director Xavier Coy, who worked with Michael as a writer on ‘5 Bedrooms'. Xavier has just finished writing his new book which is a deeply personal and insightful look into the complexities of living with bipolar disorder called ‘Living With Bipolar'. It's a beautifully illustrated book designed to challenge stereotypes around bipolar disorder and provide a clearer understanding of this widely misunderstood mental health condition. Together Em and Michael will chat with Xavier about how the book came about, what has happened for him since his diagnosis and so much more. Learn more about your ad choices. An internally rearranged Michael joins us, having survived a bout of runny egg based food poisoning he's risen from near death to help Em work through a hair extensions update, the hair witches have been in touch and the sensory nightmare is being addressed. We get a full review of Katy Perry's AFL Grand Final appearance, with added commentary from Michael's mum, plus there's a side quest into Pesto the adorable giant baby penguin the internet is obsessing over. Then we need to get the lowdown on all the high fives and other blokey bloke things that Em witnessed whilst attending an AFL Lunch the day before the Grand Final. We teased it last week, but never got around to talking about Michael's TV series ‘The Newsreader' being up for an International Emmy, and what exactly that means for him, and if Em will be joining him in New York in November. Finally Em and Michael have both seen ‘Will & Harper', a new Netflix doco following comedian Will Ferrell, who embarks on a cross-country road trip with his close friend of 30 years after they come out as a trans woman. Joining them to review the doco and offer their own insight is friend and director of Em's ‘Outgrown' show, trans comedian Anna Piper Scott. Then in the Sealed Section, on our premium service Emsolation Extra, Em and her eldest daughter Marchella discuss why she can't appear as Menopausia in Em's upcoming Arena Spectacular, her adventures on her overseas holiday, plus they try and keep a straight face while playing the Newsreader Game together. Em is a youthful long haired 45 year old woman who is not coping with the clusterfluff of perimenopause. Especially after announcing her decision to create her very own perimenopause podcast revealed just how many women are clinging on for dear life and how little support, info or help is out there. So there's that to discuss, plus Em is basically in full mid-life crisis mode, so we also need to talk though the pain and sensory nightmare of having hair extensions added and what else she has planned for her crisis era. Then it's onto a much needed update on the F1 so that Michael understands why Daniel Ricciardo looks like he's being pushed out of Red Bull and why that might be a good thing. We follow that with a topic that Em has been secretly deep diving on for almost all of 2024. Now that Michael's invested too and the news is starting to reveal more, it's time to start talking about the shocking revelations around the indictment and arrest of Sean “Diddy” Combs. There's so much to unpack, but we attempt to bring you up to speed on where things are at currently. We also wanna chat about Oprah's special with Presidential candidate Kamala Harris and the bizarre guestlist of celebs like Bryan Cranston, J'Lo, Meryl Streep, Chris Rock and more. Finally we just wanna talk about Em's seamless new hair extensions again and remind you that you can now watch the podcast on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/@emsolationpodcast Learn more about your ad choices. It's been a moment since Em and Michael have been in the studio together, so naturally we have a LOT to cover. We also asked you what you wanted to hear from us too. So we begin with a full explain of Em's outfit from Michael and an announcement that you'll now need to watch the podcast on our YouTube channel, linked here . After that it's onto a full debrief on the Outgrown show at the Palais, with some behind the scenes on changes being added to Em's upcoming Arena Spectacular on December 7. Then it's onto chucking Dave Grohl in the bin over his recent indiscretions, followed by a swift move into their reaction to the recent debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump and how Em and Michael aren't in agreement over if it went well for Kamala or not. There's also a drop in on Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish endorsing Kamala, which slides into Em and Michael's viewing of the 2024 VMA's. Covering everything from Katy Perry's performance and the awkward cutaways to her husband Orlando Bloom, to Chappell Roan's Joan of Arc appearance and their discovery of Benson Boone via his backflips and the fact that he is a sing-ger. Then there's the Emmy Awards, where ‘The Bear' wins multiple comedy awards, while not actually being a comedy, while actual comedy, and one of Em's all time faves ‘Hacks' wins, plus we got a ‘Schitts Creek' reunion onstage and Em found herself swooning over Joshua Jackson. We also cover off J'Lo's divorce era dressing on Insta and her and Ben being spotted together and Elio becoming obsessed with magic, but refusing to dress up at all. Finally, Em and Michael attempt a brand new game where they try to read weird news headlines they've never seen without laughing, prepare for maximum fails on that front and much more laughing than you'd expect, huzzah! Okay, Em and Abbie are back to give you even more of their fabulous chat. Obviously if you haven't already listened to part one of Em's conversation with Abbie, please do. In part two we begin with Abbie answering Em's question on what she wants to do next with her career. That folds effortlessly into the realities of trying to sell a live show in a cost of living crisis, from Abbie's partner Adam, aka Keith, giving her a reality check, to Em's assurance that you should never associate your self esteem with your ticket sales. Em also reveals how much her career changed when she put faith in her own ability and audience of supporters, and stepped away from relying on corporate media too. There's also a fascinating discussion on the need to slot women into certain categories, the freedom that comes when you let go of being accepted by the people you think you need to be accepted by, and how Abbie would like to be perceived by the general public. We also talk about the horrors of dating for Gen Z women right now, from the gamification of dating that's come with dating apps, to how soft boys have weaponized therapy talk to gaslight women. There's also great advice for parents of teenage girls and we talk about Abbie and Em's live tours and how both shows actually help different generations of families connect with one another just by attending. This is glorious and we just know you're gonna eat it up! Obviously with Abbie Chatfield hosting her second season of ‘FBoy Island' on Binge, we wanna get that chat out the way, but first Em has questions about Abbie's new man and why she calls him Keith. After we've got all the goss on the new partnership it's onto ‘FBoy Island', at the time of recording Em had only seen the first 2 episodes but she had LOTS of notes that she'd scribbled down while watching, all of them required answers. There's the men's eyebrows, the attacking of Crocs, the audacity of straight white men, was one of the women a former Bachelor and how come they don't say “F-Off' instead of “F-Bye” to be covered off. Once we get all of those questions out of the way, along with some exclusive behind the scenes goss from Abbie and check-ins with the Binge PR person Chelsea, it's onto what Abbie wants to do next. After making sure Abbie and her new boyfriend Adam are making good choices, with added positive sex chat and some bedroom toy discussions, and a deep dive into how neurodivergent women like her and Abbie over-explain and give away so much of their lives, then face clapback from people online and in the media for doing so. It's the episode that die hard Emsolators have clearly been waiting on, because after we put out the call for questions, we received almost 100 of them in less than 24 hours. Ahead of her sold out show at the Palais this Friday, Em is on throat rest so Michael Lucas steps into the hosting chair with his husband Adrian so they can answer all your relationship questions. First though there's breaking Lady Gaga news, along with a very intriguing conspiracy theory to be floated as well from our Seahorse of Hope, Michael. Then it's on to SOME of the nearly 100 questions you were all dying to get answers to. Together Michael and Adrian will answer everything from what have they both learnt from Em and Scott's marriage, through to their first impressions of each other's mums. We also find out their ideal place to live, would they ever work together creatively, who proposed and how did it happen? They even attempt to give advice for straight couples and Adrian reveals what it's like to be married to Em as well as Michael. It's everything you never knew you needed and then some, it's also quite possibly the gayest episode we've ever delivered, so pretty much standard right? Learn more about your ad choices. Whilst Em and Michael probably wanted to be very demure and very mindful during this episode, we kind of kiss that notion bye bye almost immediately because Em hasn't even gotten a chance to have her Brat summer yet! The fact that Em's very sick and it feels like her entire body is in revolt right now probably doesn't help things much either. Naturally we've got a full recap of the Logies, from Michael's experience of being there and discovering a brand new calling, through to Em's experience of watching it after completing three back to back performances of her Outgrown tour across the weekend. We also get a rundown of the highlights from those shows, then it's onto another prediction from the Magical Unicorn of Death coming true with the announcement that J'lo and Ben Affleck are divorcing. There's a side quest into Katy Perry being an environmental terrorist, and Trump using AI generated satirical posts to claim Taylor Swift and the Swifties are endorsing him for President. After that Em and Michael are keen to reveal all their favourite moments from the Democratic Convention which is happening in Chicago this week. We get their predictions for which celebs will be next to step up and endorse Kamala, plus we also get a very special performance from Michael and Em has even more reasons to gush about Chappell Roan again too. Then in our Sealed Section, on our premium service Emsolation Extra, Em has a special post that her hubby Scott wrote about her to share, and they ‘Okay, Stop!' the trailer for a new doco about monkey obsessed mums called ‘Chimp Crazy', which is the new series from the creator of the Tiger King doco. We begin this episode reminding you to vote for Michael's nominees from ‘The Newsreader' in the Logie Awards and of course Em's bestie Julia Morris, who's NEVER won a Logie! Then we need to talk about someone announcing their upcoming Arena Spectacular, it's Em, she's taking over MC (Mariah Carey) Arena, Saturday December 7, to deliver ‘Outgrown the Arena Spectacular', with side quests on Chappell Roan and Kesha thrown in. Speaking of Arenas, we follow that with the news that Celine clapped back at Donald Trump with a sassy statement after he used ‘My Heart Will Go On' at one of his rallies. We also need to delve into the bizarre revelation that US Presidential candidate RFK Jr dumped a dead bear cub in Central Park back in 2014, because why wouldn't he do something like that? After that we're keen to talk about the trainwreck of a PR campaign happening for the new movie based on the beloved #BookTok book ‘It Ends With Us'. There's a LOT to unpack involving the movie's star Blake Lively, costar and director Justin Baldoni and even Blake's husband Ryan Reynolds and his ‘Deadpool & Wolverine' co-star Hugh Jackman. Finally we need to talk through some of our fave moments from the Closing Ceremony in Paris as well as doing an ‘Okay, Stop!' on that very unique appearance from Tom Cruise. Then in our Sealed Section, on our premium service Emsolation Extra, Em and Michael talk about Rachael Gunn, aka Raygun's performance during the breakdancing competition at the Games. He's one of Em's closest friends and he's back to talk us through his upcoming tour ‘Rob Mills Performs the Songs of Bon Jovi', celebrating 40 years of Bon Jovi. The fact that it just happens to be on at exactly the same time as Em's Outgrown tour needs discussion, so does the fact that when Rob told Em he was doing this tour, her response was “WHY?”. There's also chat around Rob's need for Em to take him clothes shopping, his new moustache, whether he will be revealing his hairless bod on stage and the damage ‘Wicked' has taken on his leg hair. We also dive into comparing both of their shows, what is the Bon Jovi setlist Rob will perform on tour and why Rob needs to update his website address. Plus we talk airline nightmares, how Em played a key role in Rob auditioning for ‘& Juliet' after he expressed zero interest in being a part of it and how much he misses it now that it has wrapped up. Finally promises are made to Em that Rob and his girlfriend Georgie aren't planning on eloping when they head off overseas later this year. Get tickets and more details at robmills.net.au. We open with another round of updates from behind the scenes of Em's Outgrown tour, from more mind blowing reviews, to meeting the owner of our most vomit inducing ‘AMA' in Adelaide, all the way to becoming Sarah Connor and seeing a former Idol while performing in WA. Then we move onto all of the unhinged stuff that's continuing to be offered up by US Politics, from VP nominee JD Vance attacking cat owners and not denying the rumours that he is a humper of couches. To the terrible execution of the advert announcing that the Obama's are endorsing Kamala Harris for President. There's also more potential Vice President running mate chat, and even some questions around who Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce might put their support behind if at all. Finally there's just enough time for some Paris Games chat as Elio is officially getting to experience his very first one. So far, in an effort to make sure he's not just consuming toxic bro gamer content, Em has introduced him to all the different female sports, and the men's synchronised diving, so job well done. That then leads us to our Sealed Section, on our premium service Emsolation Extra, where Em and Michael talk the latest episode of ‘House of the Dragon' and also ‘Okay, Stop!' Before we get the introduction out there's a bunch of dragon and mediaeval peen chat to deliver, then we're straight into what went down when Em took her Outgrown Tour to NSW over the weekend. It wouldn't be an Em Rusciano Live show in Sydney without there being ambulances called, this time the drama went down at Em's Thirroul show. You'll get the full explain and all of the dramatic events before and during that gig, plus how it all went when Em took the show to Sydney. Then, after a proper stretch from Michael, it's time to chat Joe Biden stepping aside and how exactly do we say Kamala's name correctly. Then it's onto all the approvals coming out after Kamala announced that she is running for President, from the Charli XCX BRAT font being adopted, to a mental side quest into Chappell Roan stepping away from the spotlight. There's the huge influx of donations to her campaign in the first 24 hours, to the new generation of voters now legally able to vote in the US, plus Nancy Pelosi and George Clooney's roles in all of this to discuss too. Then in the Sealed Section Em & Michael will ‘Okay, Stop!' It's the gunshot that'll change the political landscape in America, and you better believe Em has been on a hyperfixation trail all night trawling the deep dark recesses of the world wide web for as much info as she can get. That's why this episode starts with a flurry and doesn't slow down for the first half an hour, as Em and Michael talk through the assassination attempt on Donald Trump in detail. We follow that with a full rundown of the opening weekend of Em's Outgrown tour in Queensland. Michael takes on the role of interviewer to get us all the behind the scenes goss, from the struggles to get it to the stage, to the amazing reception and support the Outgrown audiences have given Em at each show. Lastly, there's a bunch of campery to close things out as Em talks us through those steamy paparazzi pics of Theo James filming a fragrance commercial in a glorious white speedo. Then there's that footage of Kylie Minogue being carried on stage by two of our favourite gay actors, Jonathan Bailey and Andrew Scott. Then in our Sealed Section, on our premium service Emsolation Extra, Em and Michael ‘Okay, Stop!' the new music video ‘Woman's World' from Katy Perry. We begin this episode with Michael up on his high horse (actually a chair) and delightfully high on Endone, so expect less “to be fair” and more unfiltered Lucas. It's his first episode since his hip replacement and he has updates and feedback to share, including whether or not he and Adrian have managed to throw a newly attached leg over one another or not. Then it's onto the news that the ‘Wicked' movie will be opening the same day as the brand new ‘Gladiator 2' with Pedro Pascal, Paul Mescal and Denzel Washington at the helm. Obviously Em is mad keen to see them both, but which should be first, and will Michael agree on Em's preferred order for intake? After that we need to reflect on the news that Joe Biden is pretty much triple doubling down and refusing to withdraw from the US Presidential race, while Trump has pretty much gone silent. There's also the French and UK Elections to address, both countries rejected the right wing parties and the UK's new Prime Minister, Keir Starmer has announced a record number of women into his cabinet. Finally, Em's first three shows of her ‘Outgrown' tour kick off in Queensland this week, with the very first show happening tonight in Toowoomba. There's a nasty iron infusion to discuss, a black curtain of shame to fall in love with, and a special Gold Coast guest they're not allowed to talk about, so buckle up and prepare to ride at dawn to the nearest set of headphones and get your listen on. Hollow shell of a human incoming, it's been a LOT recently so Em is coming in like Joe Biden at a Presidential debate, which we will discuss within this episode. To begin though we need to acknowledge Michael's Logie noms for ‘The Newsreader' and the blandness of the Gold Logie nominees again this year, aside from Julia Morris and Tony Armstrong of course. Then we need to talk through the utter bin fire that was the first Presidential Debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden. You can expect more predictions from the Magical Unicorn of Death, as well as a side-quest on Putin and Kim Jong-un's limo ride and airport wave offs. There's also some chat about why Michael and Adrian shouldn't have children of their own. We also need to discuss Em's family losing Scott's Dad last week, Odie having her Year 12 formal, Marchella heading overseas this weekend, Em being sick and the push to sell Outgrown tour tickets, it's all a little bit overwhelming. Then there's Michael's hip surgery being moved, the extensive medical scrub down before surgery and a deep dive into why Em is all about pyjamas and why Michael needs to get his sleeping attire sorted too. Then in our Sealed Section, on our premium service Emsolation Extra, Em and Michael have both seen the ‘I Am Celine Dion' documentary and they're ready to give their feedback and a full review. They're the reviews you've never seen, recorded in 2023 but never broadcast visually, now you get to witness Em and Michael's full facial reactions as they review some of our favourite streaming moments from last year. Inside you'll get to witness them gush over that 4-part doco series on the life and career of David Beckham with ‘Beckham'. Then we get the full gobsmacked reaction to Ghost Diana appearing in the final season of the documentary ‘The Crown', which sees condemnation and ridicule from Em and a collection of to be fair's from Michael, standard. After that we focus on the soft focus that glides across the face of Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon whenever they appear in a shot on the TV series ‘Morning Wars/The Morning Show'. Plus Em offers props for the superb and steamy age appropriate sex scenes between Jen and Mad Men's Jon Hamm too. Finally, it's the reason a video version of this pod adds another level to the enjoyment, as we get to witness Em and Michael reliving their road trip to see Lady Gaga doing her jazz and piano show in Vegas. There's a full breakdown of the abundant highlights and hilarious moments from before, during and after that show. That's swiftly followed by their night with Beyonce in LA, two life changing events that are totally worth revisiting with the added visuals attached. Learn more about your ad choices. As previously teased, this week there's no regular Emsolation episode so that Em can focus on rehearsals for her upcoming ‘Outgrown' tour. This week, we're giving you a special sampler from today's episode of the Sealed Section, which is available every Thursday on our premium service, Emsolation Extra. It's the story musical theatre nerds have been frothing over, everyone else, not so much. Which is why Em is here to rectify that ASAP ploise! Jemma Rix is one of Australia's most loved leading ladies of musical theatre, having starred in the stage versions of ‘Frozen', ‘Ghost', ‘The Wizard of Oz', and most famously as ‘Elphaba' in ‘Wicked'. It's no secret that ‘Wicked' is Em's emotional support musical, so when she heard that Jemma had stepped on stage to fill in as ‘Elphaba' for one night last week, Em was pulling strings, calling in favours and making calls to get Jemma in to reveal the full heckers story. You see, Jemma hasn't performed the role of ‘Elphaba' for 9 years, but she somehow managed to rehearse and reacquaint herself with the role, then step on stage to perform the entire thing, with just 2 days notice! She only had a baby 9 months ago and suddenly she's centre stage with literally zero prep, HUZZAH!! It's a Herculean effort and it's a story that Em and Jemma will break down in so much detail, you'll almost believe you were actually there with Jemma while she was going through it all. So strap yourself in for the full fascinating reveal of the ultimate musical theatre ‘Good For Her' EVER!! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Welcome to Michael's petty era, he's come in raging over an article asserting that Season 3 of his hit TV series ‘The Newsreader. Rumours that the series is wrapping up because his cast don't wanna do it anymore are false, and the truth is he never planned to go beyond a third season ever. Cut to Michael calling the article's creators to have it adjusted (something Em was never able to do when fake articles about her came out) and much discussion of who cares, who's show gets better numbers, and assurances we won't be cutting anything Michael says out (which we didn't). Then it's onto the biggest mistake in Em's life, jumping in on a Craft Market stall with comedian Lizzy Hoo to sell a bunch of clothes and shoes. Em went in hard, we're talking swings tags, paper bags, classy coat hangers, clothing racks, full outfit washes and Em's mum Jenni stepping in to help organise and run the market stall too. It is a LOT and Em will never be doing it again. Finally there's the shocking news that Jennifer Lopez emailed Em to tell her that she was cancelling her ‘This Is Me…Now Live' tour, plus there's the latest attempts to prove her and Ben Affleck are still very much in love and all is fine in Bennifer land to check in on too. Plus there's much gushing when they both discuss the new doco based on the creator of The Muppets, Fraggle Rock, The Labyrinth and so much more, ‘Jim Henson Idea Man'. In our Sealed Section, on our premium service Emsolation Extra, Em and Michael ‘Okay, Stop!' the viral TikTok of comedian Georgia Godworth vox popping the one and only Baz Luhrmann, whilst having zero idea she was chatting to someone so famous. We open with a tease for Michael's guitar playing skills and then dive head first into recounting an incident involving Em and her hubby Scott. An incident where Scott pretty much chose violence and talked his way into inspiring Em to grab a pair of scissors and go after the wheels of his bike. After that it's onto Lady Gaga finally releasing the Chromatica concert tour video that she has since revealed was recorded while she had Covid. We naturally had to discuss the decision to perform while contagious and if she should have cancelled instead, plus there's our favourite Gaga moment to watch, discuss and breakdown. Then with Michael's Hip Hurrah Party less than 2 weeks away, there's a live performance Em and Michael need to rehearse before they deliver it on the night. Hence, you'll get to witness the early stages of that as they rehearse and sing Beyonce's ‘Daddy Lessons' with Michael on guitar strumming. Also in our Sealed Section, we ‘Okay, Stop!' the trailer for the upcoming documentary ‘I Am: Celine Dion'. Sign up now to start listening & watching at emsolation.supercast.com. After questioning the level of effort Michael applies to his outfit for recording the podcast, which seems to be not very much at all, we dive into Em's review of ‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga'. There's some standing ovation chat around the Cannes screening of ‘Furiosa' and Demi Moore's new movie getting an 11-minute standing ovation too. Then it's onto episode 3 of Em's new podcast ‘Anomalous with Em Rusciano' which has cameos from Michael Lucas & Benjamin Wasley. There's also a divine post from an Emsolator whose partner has been raving about how listening to the podcast has helped him navigate his own diagnosis. Plus, Em reveals how prep for her ‘Outgrown' tour is going, including how she performed it to her husband Scott in their living room, even though he never asked. Finally, Em dons her investigative glasses and does a full analysis on the rumours that Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are heading to the divorce courts. Em has all the receipts and will reveal all of her findings on if the J'Lo and Ben romance is really on the skids or not. Also in our Sealed Section, it's all about playing ‘Okay, Stop!' on that saucy carriage scene on the new season of ‘Bridgerton', plus Em is mad keen to pull an all nighter at Michael's Hip Hooray party.
