Many federal immigration officers are reportedly in the process of packing up and leaving the Twin Cities. Border Czar Tom Homan said Sunday that Operation Metro Surge is drawing down. The months-long campaign led to intense protest. Two American citizens were shot and killed by immigration enforcement officers during the operation. Local prosecutors have been trying to investigate those shootings but they say they have been rebuffed by the federal government. Earlier this week, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension said it was denied access to evidence by the FBI meanwhile, Hennepin County prosecutors in Minneapolis are crowdsourcing evidence from people who videotaped one of the shootings. Like local officials everywhere, King County is navigating a shifting relationship with the federal government and the possibility that an immigration enforcement surge could happen here. //The Wire//2300Z February 16, 2026////ROUTINE////BLUF: CONCERNS ARE GROWING FOR TWO CAPTURED AMERICAN PILOTS DETAINED IN WEST AFRICA. UNITED STATES SEIZES OIL TANKER IN INDIAN OCEAN.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE----- -International Events-Indian Ocean: Over the weekend the United States seized the M/T *VERONICA III*, one of the tankers which fled Venezuela in the wake of the fall of the Maduro government. The vessel was boarded and seized due to carrying oil in violation of American sanctions.West Africa: Concerns are growing concerning the safety of Two American pilots who were illegally detained by authorities in Guinea almost 6 weeks ago. On December 29th, Brad Schlenker and Fabio Espinal Nunez were piloting a private charter flight when they diverted to Guinea to refuel. They were given permission to land, and upon taxiing to the terminal, were greeted by armed soldiers. Both pilots have been detained since the incident.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: As of right now, the issue of the pilots in Guinea is still in the realm of diplomacy, as the families of the captives have been working with the Embassy to secure the pilots' release. Since this line of effort has not yielded any progress, the families have gone to the media with the hope that a media blitz will pressure the White House to speed along their release. All of this can probably be handled with a phone call, but just in case a more active response is called for, an understanding of the terrain might be helpful. So far, many details remain unknown as the initial circumstances of the detention are hard to verify. Flying for a regional charter airline in Africa is one of the most dangerous jobs a pilot can take, simply due to the corruption that is rampant throughout the continent. As such, it was an odd choice to choose to land in this country in particular, which has led many to assess that there is more to the story than meets the eye. The status of the original charter itself is also not known; some reports state that this flight was a ferry flight moving an aircraft that was recently sold (i.e. no passengers on board), whereas other reports state that they were flying a Brazilian family to Dubai. In any case, taking the story at face-value, the pilots diverted to Guinea for fuel and upon landing probably did not have enough cash on hand for the required bribes. Verbal permission to land is not good enough in Africa, and every stage along the way involves greasing palms, which always demand more. In this case, these pilots are currently serving as a bargaining chip, having chosen to land in Guinea at the worst possible time...during a state of military coup. General Mamadi Doumbouya is currently running the country after "winning" the election one day before these pilots landed. Doumbouya was the leader of the 2021 coup that overthrew the previous government, and over the past few years, the beleaguered nation has been host to the standard West African experience of poverty and violence while under military rule. Now that he's made his warlord status official, his government is probably looking to increase his standing. Nothing pads the ego of an African warlord quite like snatching a couple of Americans so as to get the attention of the United States (the mere dialog with the US alone will increase the legitimacy of his government). However, Doumbouya might find that his little stunt gets the wrong kind of attention from the United States if the pilots are not released immediately. Whatever the pilots did (if anything) to get detained is not a good enough excuse to avoid American involvement; the United States has proven over the past year that the US military will bomb a country back to the stone age for nothing more than a Klondike bar, so Doumbouya would be wise to correct this issue immediately. Local media reports (such that they are) ind
Feliks Banel's guest on this BONUS EPISODE of CASCADE OF HISTORY is Cecily Marcus, Director of Collections for the Minnesota Historical Society in St. Paul, Minnesota. For the past few months, Minneapolis and St. Paul have been the target of the Trump Administration's Department of Homeland Security and what the federal government calls “Operation Metro Surge.” Two American citizens - Renee Good and Alex Pretti - were shot to death by federal agents in Minneapolis in January 2026. Demonstrations have been largely peaceful, but chaotic scenes of raids and riot suppression have been a fixture in the media for those who don't live there. CASCADE OF HISTORY reached out to the Minnesota Historical Society to get a sense of what it's been like to cope with the reality on the streets and in the communities of Minnesota, and to learn how they are responding – from an artifact and collections perspective – during this, to put it mildly, historically significant time. CASCADE OF HISTORY spoke with Cecily Marcus on Friday, February 13, 2026. Note: This podcast is also available on YouTube: https://youtu.be/_J8I4ZB72bo This is the kind of conversation about Israel and Palestine you won't hear anywhere else. Rabbi Sid Schwarz, founding rabbi of Congregation Adat Shalom and longtime progressive Zionist, and Sam Sherman, a playwright, actor, and anti-Zionist activist who grew up in Schwarz's congregation, model how to engage in respectful dialogue across profound ideological differences about Israel and Palestine. Schwarz discusses his decades-long commitment to what he calls "spiritual Zionism"—affirming Israel's right to exist while vocally opposing policies that violate Jewish values. Sherman explains his anti-Zionist position rooted in concern for Palestinian dignity and opposition to what he sees as institutionalized Jewish supremacy. Despite their disagreements on the meaning of Zionism, the legitimacy of violence, and the future of the region, both speakers demonstrate deep respect, genuine curiosity, and a commitment to staying in relationship. As Sam prepares to return to the West Bank to work with the Center for Jewish Nonviolence, this conversation offers a rare and moving example of how Jews across generational and ideological divides can engage with empathy, learn from each other, and remain part of the same Jewish community even when fundamental disagreements persist. Two American citizens have been killed by federal agents in Minneapolis in less than three weeks. On January 24, 2026, ICU nurse Alex Pretti was shot ten times..mostly in the back...after trying to help a woman who had been shoved to the ground by ICE agents. Video shows he was disarmed before he was killed. Within hours, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem called him a "domestic terrorist." Hours after his death, Attorney General Pam Bondi sent a letter to Minnesota Governor Tim Walz with a chilling demand: hand over your state's voter rolls, or the federal agents stay. In this episode, Robin connects the dots between the ICE occupation of Minneapolis, the expansion to Maine, and the Trump administration's nationwide campaign to seize voter data from 24 states. What emerges is a terrifying picture: immigration enforcement as political weapon, federal agents as a goon squad punishing dissent, and a roadmap to consolidated authoritarian power. The execution of Alex Pretti: What the videos show vs. what DHS claimsWitness affidavits: Shot in the back, after being disarmedKristi Noem and Stephen Miller's "domestic terrorist" liePam Bondi's extortion letter: Voter rolls for peaceWhy Minnesota? Today's Headlines: Hamas returned the bodies of four more Israeli hostages after Israel accused them of dragging their feet on the peace deal and threatened to slash humanitarian aid. Two American hostages' remains are still missing. Trump's foreign policy victory lap took a turn when he threatened to cut aid to Argentina if voters don't reelect his ally Javier Milei—right after the U.S. basically bailed out Argentina's economy. Meanwhile, the U.S. military struck another “drug boat” off Venezuela, killing six, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth tried (and failed) to force journalists to sign gag agreements for Pentagon access—OANN was the only one to comply. Over at DHS, Secretary Kristi Noem produced an airport PSA blaming Democrats for the government shutdown, violating the Hatch Act so hard that airports are refusing to air it. Trump posthumously gave the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Charlie Kirk, then revoked visas for six foreigners who allegedly mocked his death. A leak of 28,000 messages from Young Republican leaders exposed months of racist, antisemitic, and violent rants—including one participant who works in the Trump administration. In Pennsylvania, the man who set Governor Josh Shapiro's house on fire pleaded guilty to attempted murder and arson. A hurling club in New York has played an important role in the development of hurling in the city. Founded in 2010, the Hoboken Guards have played in 11 championship finals over the past 15 years. After winning the Junior Championship in 2017, they were promoted to the Senior ranks in 2018 – and what followed was a golden run. They captured the Senior New York Championship three years in a row: 2018, 2019, and 2020. They've also appeared in finals in 2011 through 2016, as well as 2021, 2022, and most recently, this year, when they faced Waterford in the New York Final. A game they unfortunately lost. The squad for this year's final was led by player/manager Darragh Walsh, with coaching support from Brian Glynn, Eamon Glynn, and John Fitzgerald. The team was captained by David Mangan of Kilconieron, with a strong Galway backbone that included Johnny Glynn (Adrahan), Daniel Mottram (Kilnadeema-Leitrim) in goal, Conor Caulfield (Kilconieron), and Gary Corless (Gort) among the starters. Also on the panel were Hugh McDonagh (Cortoon), Enda and Declan Fahey (Kilbeacanty), and Paul Gordon (Tynagh-Abbey-Duniry). In the club's early days, it was Tipp men like Declan Hogan (former NJ/Kilkenny captain), Conor Costigan (Templetuohy), and Pat Egan (JK Brackens) who helped form the spine of the team, alongside Clare's Fintan Meehan (Sixmilebridge). But Galway has always had a huge presence – with players like Shane O'Grady (Tommy Larkin's and now a lecturer at ATU Galway), Noel Gorman, and Eamon Riordan also of Tommy Larkin's, Brian Casserly (Athenry), Shane Quinn (Kinvara), and Sean Costelloe (Ballindereen) all contributing over the years. The Hoboken Guards have not only made their mark on the field but also helped grow the game across the U.S. Their success sparked the formation of five other American hurling clubs, including Jersey Shore GAA. Two American-born players from the Guards' All-American B team went on to found clubs of their own: Mick Kinnelly launched Providence Hurling Club in Rhode Island, James Herron started Tulsa GAA in Oklahoma, and Dave Lewis established the Kean University Hurling Club in New Jersey. Ahead of this feature airing, the club's founder David Cosgrove has been flooded with stories, messages, and memories from past players – both in New Jersey and here in Ireland. He spoke to John Mulligan.

It's Thursday, August 22nd, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 125 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Nicaragua shuts down 1,500 religious groups The government of Nicaragua announced on Monday it shut down 1,500 non-profit organizations. They include nearly 700 religious groups associated with Catholic, Evangelical, and Protestant denominations. Previously, the central American government focused on suppressing Catholic dissent to the regime. Now, Evangelical churches face the crackdown as well. Open Doors notes, “The situation has deteriorated significantly since 2018, when widespread protests broke out against the country's dictatorial regime. Christians have been among those to raise their voice—but it's coming at an alarming cost.” Nicaragua is ranked 30th on the Open Doors' World Watch List of nations where it is most difficult to be a Christian. Geneva, Switzerland banned public baptisms An Evangelical church in Switzerland appealed to the European Court of Human Rights this week over public baptisms in Lake Geneva. Back in 2022, the Geneva State Council banned the church from celebrating baptisms in the lake. Earlier this year, a federal court ruled against the church, saying public baptisms could offend religious peace. Theologian John Calvin, whose ministry was based in Geneva in the 1540s, would have a cow! A press release from the church stated, “We stand up for the defense of the peaceful expression of faith and religious freedom, in private and in public.” Bulgaria Parliament banned sexual perversion promotion in schools Earlier this month, the Parliament of Bulgaria passed legislation banning the promotion of sexually perverted lifestyles in schools. The measure bans “propaganda, promotion or incitement in any way, directly or indirectly, in the education system of ideas and views related to non-traditional sexual orientation and/or gender identity other than the biological one.” The southeast European nation only recognizes marriages as between one man and one woman. However, politicians warn that “gender ideology” is creeping into Bulgarian schools. The radical Democratic Party Platform In the United States, the Democratic National Committee released its 2024 Party Platform on Sunday. The document is nearly 100 pages, much longer than the 16-page Republican Party Platform. Despite being released nearly a month after President Joe Biden dropped out the presidential race, the Democrat platform mentions him nearly 300 times. The platform also continues to push liberal agendas like protecting abortion and sexually perverted lifestyles at the federal level. Look at a fascinating side-by-side comparison of the Democrat Party Platform compared to the Republican Party Platform through a special link at www.TheWorldview.com. Oprah endorses Kamala Last night, in a surprise appearance at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Oprah Winfrey endorsed Kamala Harris for president. WINFREY: “Soon, and very soon, we're going to be teaching our daughters and sons about how this child of an Indian mother and a Jamaican father -- two idealistic, energetic immigrants -- immigrants -- how this child grew up to become the 47th president of the United States!” (cheers) How can economy be Trump's fault if Kamala is in there now? But, despite Winfrey's eloquence, CNN political analyst Scott Jennings, a former assistant to President George W. Bush, made a cogent point last night, reports RealClearPolitics.com. JENNINGS: “The gap that I still see in all these speeches -- as good as they were -- [Kamala Harris] is in the White House right now. Democrats have controlled the White House for 12 of the last 16 years, and for all of the talk about division and the problems in the country, and people are hurting, Democrats have mostly controlled this country. “Trump had it for four. The Obamas and Biden had it for the rest of the time, and somehow, it's still all Trump's fault, and somehow, she hasn't been at the center of it. “To me, that is the glaring hole in this campaign that hasn't yet been solved at the convention. How do you explain all of the problems that will be solved by the person who is currently in there for the last 3.5 years and who is supposed to be already working on solving it?” Seven pro-life activists found guilty A Michigan jury found seven pro-life activists guilty on Tuesday. Their names are Chester Gallagher, Heather Idoni, Joel Curry, Justin Phillips, Cal Zastrow, his daughter Eva Zastrow, and 89-year-old Eva Edl who survived a Nazi concentration camp. The Biden administration charged the pro-lifers for peacefully protesting outside an abortion mill. The so-called Justice Department used a conspiracy against rights charge that was originally designed for the Ku Klux Klan, reports the Daily Wire. The pro-lifers face over 10 years in prison and hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines. Despite this, they expressed their joy in the Lord Jesus after the trial. In Matthew 5:11-12, Jesus said, “Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in Heaven.” Weak U.S. job growth Job growth in the U.S. was weaker than expected over the last year. The Bureau of Labor Statistics found the U.S. added about 800,000 fewer jobs than reported between April 2023 and March of this year. It's the largest downward revision since 2009. The sectors with the biggest downward revisions were all in the private sector like professional and business services; leisure and hospitality; manufacturing; and trade, transportation, and utilities. Two American astronauts trapped aboard Space Station And finally, two American astronauts have been stuck in space for over two months. NASA Astronaut Barry Wilmore and test pilot Suni Williams made it safely to the International Space Station in early June aboard a Boeing Starliner. They were supposed to return shortly thereafter; however, they found the new spacecraft had propulsion system leaks and thruster failures. If the problems persist, they may not be able to return to Earth until next year. Despite this, the astronauts are holding on to their faith as fellow Christians pray for them on Earth. CBN News reports, “Wilmore's wife Deanna recently said her husband is content under the circumstances, knowing the Lord is in control.” Joshua 1:9 says, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” And, we would add, even as you orbit the Earth. It's a central premise of the American dream: If you're willing to work hard, you'll be able to make a living and build a better life for your children. But what if working hard isn't enough to get ahead — or even to ensure your family's basic financial stability? Two American Families: 1991-2024, a special, two-hour documentary filmed over more than 30 years, is a portrait of perseverance from FRONTLINE, Bill Moyers, and filmmakers Tom Casciato and Kathleen Hughes that raises unsettling questions about the changing nature of the American economy and the impact on people struggling to make a living. This is the saga of two families in Milwaukee, Wisconsin — one Black, the Stanleys, and one white, the Neumanns — who have spent the past 34 years battling to keep from sliding into poverty, and who refuse to give up despite the economic challenges that their stories reveal.
Joining host Michael Azevedo on this episode are documentary filmmakers Tom Casciato and Kathleen Hughes. Tom and Kathleen join Michael to discuss their latest film for PBS's Frontline series called "Two American Families, 1991-2024." The film follows two Milwaukee families, one black, one white, over the last thirty-odd years. Two American Families 1991-2024 premiered on Frontline on July 23 but is still available for streaming via the Frontline website, the PBS App and on YouTube, where at the time of this recording, it has received more than 360k views. What do we have here. Two American-made, gas-piston driven firearms, each with a different take. The Brownells BRN-180 may not come in a complete package, but it does offer a light weight option when it comes to piston carbines. At the same time the PSA JAKL arrives complete with an intelligent design beyond that of its operating system. Both have appeared at our Public Land Clean ups, where volunteers got to test them out for themselves. You clean, try out new guns, and that all accumulates into more test data to consider when comparing similar gear. It's October, folks. The season of mystery. So this week, to kick off our favorite month of the year, we've picked two of the most iconic unsolved cases in American history: both cases where the basic fabric of everyday life was threatened. Where the things we take for granted as safe—over the counter medicine and air travel—suddenly couldn't be trusted. Both of these cases rocked the country to its core. And both of them remain unsolved to this day. Case 1: The Tylenol Poisonings. Case 2: D.B. Cooper.
