ETAO PODCAST, EPISODE 123. Carlos Bordeu is the C in ACE Team, the studio behind Rock of Ages, Zeno Clash, The Deadly Tower of Monsters, SolSeraph, Abyss Odyssey, and most recently, The Eternal Cylinder. The studio’s projects are reliably-original-unto-earnestly-bizarre, going full-tilt at strange, wondrous ideas and preoccupations. On today's episode of the Never Ending Backlog, we are reviewing ACE Team's, mature adventure, side-scrolling platformer, Abyss Odyssey.Abyss Odyssey is one of those games we have seen many times when scrolling through our game collection; however, we had assumed it was an entirely different type of game. We assumed it was an indie title (which it is); however, we expected a small budget development, that might have been neglected over the years. Fortunately, we were absolutely wrong. Abyss Odyssey offers a Castlevania'like experience, that performs quite well (with a controller).Steam Description:From indie Chilean developer ACE Team comes a new side-scrolling action adventure game featuring a complex fighting engine in procedurally generated levels that destines its three warriors to battle a different abyss each time! There are quite a few mechanics involved with this game, and button combos that unfortunately struggle on a keyboard/mouse. One quick glance at the reviews, and you will notice that it wasn't the smoothest experience for players; however, as we have been using our Steam Controller, our experience has been significantly different. But alas, it's time to review Abyss Odyssey on Steam!Important Links:Developer Website: https://store.steampowered.com/app/255070/Abyss_Odyssey/Publisher Website: https://www.aceteam.cl/Steam Store: https://atlus.com/games/

This E3 day offered not just thrills, but actual terror. The last thing we want is to be seduced by another Alien game but dammit… Alien: Isolation is in a league of its own and truly embodies the notion of “survival horror”. But it’s not the only game we saw flirting with danger and desperation – the creator of Resident Evil has returned to set a new bar for the horror puzzler, and the new zombie MMO, H1Z1 is shaping up to be the pinnacle of the zombie survivalist online gaming. We also found our selves face-to-face with the future tech of the 90s with a VR demo that’s everything that bygone decade promised by failed to deliver, fell in love with a new IP from a brand-new studio, and checked out some fantastic indie games along with other AAA contenders. Hear about our hands-on experiences with Alien: Isolation, H1Z1, Planetside 2, The Evil Within, Battlecry, Lords of the Fallen, Paparazzi, Celestia, and nDream’s VR game – The Assembly. And our take on live demos of Sunset Overdrive, Dragon Ball Z: Xenoverse, Tales of Xillia 2, Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number, and Abyss Odyssey.Learn more about your ad choices.
