Now that the first-generation arcs of Pokémon Adventures are over, James and Will talk about the all action finale. The brilliance of getting us to root for girls in what many consider to be a shonen manga. And we even talk about the Mewtwo versus Lance fight and Pikachu and friends versus Lance! Perhaps there is a bit too many people fighting Lance in this volume but overall, we get a satisfying conclusion. Skip plot summary @ 9:55   Email: WeAppreciateManga@Gmail.com   122: Pokémon Adventures vol. 7 Chapters 79 'Airing Out Aerodactyl' and 90 'The Legend' Art by Mato English Translation by Kaori Inoue Lettering and touch up by Annaliese Christman      Yellow's journey to reunite Pika the Pikachu with the Pokémon trainer Red finally comes to an end, but not before a climactic battle on a remote Island with the Elite Four.   Lorelei cuts the arm of Green only to find it was a trick Ditto in disguise, her real arm, being hidden in her jacket. The Ditto confines and arrests Lorelei and her Pokémon Jynx. Sabrina is not too happy to find that was she handicapped and partnered to a secret ditto throughout the fight, but it worked non the less. One down, three to go.   Agatha's haunter is tricked into attacking the severed body of an Arbok, which can still move even without its head. Blue can counter attack it, in turn Agatha flees as it was the last of her Pokémon. That is two down and two to go.   And Bruce, no longer influenced by Agatha's spell accepts defeat from Red graciously. Afterwards Red seeks out Pika once Bill tells him that Pika is on the island with Yellow. Now Lance is the last one left standing.   Blaine uses Mewtwo to fight Lance but having a psychic link with Mewtwo means he becomes unconscuous during the fight. Mewtwo is also unique as a pokémon since they become weaker with every passing second once out of the master ball and their culture tank. Because of this Mewtwo is not able to defeat Lance and instead retreats it's special master ball not only to protect its own life but the life of Blaine aswell. This leaves Yellow to a showdown within the heart of an active volcano, where she learns that Lance has the same powers as her. Lance also learns of Yellow too by reading Pika's mind. Both Yellow and Lance are from Viridian Forest as is their Pokémon and both have the same powers to heal and read the thoughts of Pokémon.   From Learning how Mewtwo fought previously, Yellow uses Pika's surf move to lure Lance to the lava and generate a whirlpool to trap him. Once Lance is gone, she is helped by her Pokémon and exits the mouth of the volcano. But the recess from battle is short as Lance rises from the volcano with a bubble shield formed by his Gyrados. Yellow gets her hand broken by the Gyrados' bubble beam attack, which is invisible in the bright light of the sun. However Yellow retaliates by having her caterpie form a string net, her Omanyte wets the net and and her Raticate uses it to sense any bubbles that hit it. Pika charges the wet net with ellectricity, making sure to counter attack Lance and trapping him inside it. Once Yellow senses an opening she has her Doduo attack Lance. Sadly, Doduo and the rest of her Pokémon are not strong enough to defeat Lance's. It is at this point another Viridian Pokémon user arrives to assist. Giovanni, the leader of Team Rocket, but in doing so he  loses his gym badge to Lance. With Lance having all badges his master plan is active and the island becomes the altar to which it will summon a legendary dragon Pokémon. One that Lance plans to capture and use to conquer the world. In Lance's eagerness he does not realise how weak and worn out from battle his Pokémon are. In the end the powers that he summons becomes a double edged sword for Lance. Yellow's Pokémon have evolved and so she makes her last stand.   Topics:   ·       The climax and battles of the Yellow arc. ·       Giving context as to why Yellow Caballero is revealed to be a girl later in the manga. ·       How too many twists can spoil the drama if they zig zag back and forth between similar scenes, often a common flaw in shonen battle manga. ·       Giovanni and his son.   References and Trivia:   ·       Although Lugia looks like a dragon it is in fact the highest Pokémon on the hierarchy of the Legendary bird Pokémon. It is a flying and psychic type. Lugia is also original to the second Pokémon movie (Pokémon 2000) having made their first appearance in that movie. Lugia's place in the wider franchise came as a surprise to writer and creator Takeshi Shudo, according to this ‘Did You Know Gaming' video, and Dr. Lava's blog.   ·       Arbok's body being able to move without its head is a real-life phenomenon seen with snakes. Like chickens, snakes and most reptiles have a pre-programmed nervous system that works in response to shock. Especially a shock induced by beheading, according to an article from National Geographic snakes can recover from this, albeit with permanent brain damage. There is also this video of a decapitated snake still being able to bite.   Facebook Instagram Twitter Official Website   Email

Coming close to the end of the yellow arc, we finally get answers to long standing questions and see an old character return in time for the final battle. Skip plot summary @ 4:25   Email: WeAppreciateManga@Gmail.com   121: Pokémon Adventures vol. 6 Chapters 66 'Punching Poliwrath' and 78 'Victim of Venusaur' Art by Mato English Translation by Kaori Inoue Lettering and touch up by Wayne Truman              Red has disappeared and it is up to his Pikachu (nicknamed Pika in the manga) with the help of Yellow Caballero to find him. In the search for Red they to team up with Pokémon experts and members of the Rocket gang, this leads them to encounter with Bruno, Lorelei, Agatha and Lance, a.k.a. the Elite Four.   Sabrina of Team Rocket uses her psychic "spoons of fate" trick to decide on how to best the four. The spoons bend towards the best partner, Koga teams up with Blue, Sabrina with Green, Lt. Surge teams up with Bill and Yellow with Blaine.   Blue wants to fight Agatha due to the history they share, but paralyzed by her Gengar it is Koga who defeats her in a Arbok versus Arbok fight after having a Golbat versus Golbat fight! Koga revives Blue by hiding a paralyzed heal in one of his shuriken shaped Pokéballs. Agatha has the last laugh by trapping them in a maze of fallen stalactites and having a Gengar shadow them as she lays unconscious.   Lorelei fights Green and Sabrina, making magical voodoo like dolls from ice. Lorelei has the two ladies stuck together in cuffs of ice. As a tactician Lorelei knocks out Green first but Sabrina attacks her cloyster which hides the dolls. Lorelei tells Sabrina that it is useless since all Cloyster must do is shield itself and withdraw. Good thing Sabrina is not trying to steal back the dolls through force. Instead, she uses her venomoth to leech out the life of the Cloyster, much to Lorelei's surprise.   Bill and Lt. Surge find themself fighting on the back of a wild Onyx; Yellow and Blaine notice them through a one-sided mirror, a strange barrier that makes it hopeless for them to help. At this moment Red appears in time to rematch with Bruno, and although Blaine, Yellow and Pikachu can see Red, the barrier prevents Red as well as Lt. Surge and Bill from Seeing them. On top of this, Electrode's self-destruct move has caused a torrent of water to seep into the cave, one that threatens to drown Blaine, Yellow and Pikachu. We also discover what Yellow is hiding under that straw hat!   Topics:   ·       The opening battle with Red and Bruno, Pikachu's trauma. ·       Each of the battles between shown through the volumes. ·       The idea of a  Pokédex  from 1996 in a modern age of Wikipedia and online search engines. ·       Religious references and censorship in regards to manga and videogames.   References:   ·       Misty's use of Starmie as a guiding light /emergency flare is an allusion to the Christian Bible, where three kings (in some translations "three wise men") used a star to guide them to the birthplace of their messiah.   Facebook Instagram Twitter Official Website   Email

Who would have thought that catching Pidgey would be exciting?! The return of the Regis has many hunting Legendary Shinies, but Mega Slowbro has earned many remote raid passes! With a Special Raid Weekend being announced, I would imaging that Discords everywhere will be popping off with coordination.   A Very Slow Discovery has been a blast so far with a simple but fun Collection Challenge, unique Field Research, and of course Slowpoke. Galarian Slowpoke has been a popular hunt as well but we will need to hold out for Galarian Slowking!   We wrap things up with a deep dive into the Season 8 GBL Move updates as Adam confirms that he will be digging his heels into PvP. Let's see if he will actually seap out his Arbok for Nidoqueen! In what was to be a Poke The Bear segment, we actually hold things back as there is plenty to get through on this topic. The GBL Season 8 Stardust debacle has stirred things up and warranted a reaction from Niantic. Welcome to the World of Pokémon

Hello there! Happy New Year and Welcome to Professor Jacob's twenty-fourth lesson on Pokémon biology. In today's class, we will be covering Ekans' evolved form Arbok: the Cobra Pokémon. This slithery specimen is a deadly poison type Pokémon that isn't the best at giving hugs... because it will most likely constrict you to death. So trainers, it's important that you still show affection to your Arbok - just don't hug it unless it's well-trained. Perhaps a berry or a back scratch will suffice. Equipped with venomous fangs, Arbok makes for a dangerous Pokémon on the battlefield. So students, please take detailed notes and learn all you can from Prof. Jacob because these creatures might kill you... and we have another pop quiz!

Hello and welcome to the one and only Pokemon Catch-up! Today, we're diving into the Pokemon Fast Track Viewing List, as always. We are slowly nearing the end of the season and the end of Ash's journey across Kanto. In the last episode that we covered, Ash obtained his 7th badge from Blaine and headed straight toward Viridian City where there was a gym that Ash, mysteriously, skipped.Let's join Ash, Misty, and Brock for more of their shenanigans!Today's Episode: Season 1 (Indigo League), Episode 63: “The Battle of the Badge”SynopsisThe group finally arrives at Viridian City and Ash is hoping to battle for his 8th and final badge. He remarks that it's been a whole year since they were there last! They arrive at the Pokemon Center that Team Rocket blew up the last time they were there and it's been rebuilt. Brock points to the Viridian City gym and tells Ash that's where he has to go to get his Earth badge.Ash gets fired up but in fact, it was just Pikachu and Togepi made an actual fire and burned Ash's foot. The scene turns into an emotional moment where Ash declares his utmost confidence in Pikachu's abilities.A fancy car pulls up to break up the moment and Gary steps out, already laughing at Ash. His cheerleaders cheer him on as the boy mocks Ash. He pulls out his case with ten different badges and laughs at the fact that Ash doesn't even have the minimum to enter the league! But wait, how does Gary have 10 badges when there are only 8 official gyms? We (might) find out in the trivia section!Gary jumps out of the car and requests a battle with the gym leader. Him and the cheerleaders run into the gym and the guards in front stop Ash from trying to get in as well. “Only one trainer in the gym at a time,” they say and the door closes. Ash feels pretty down so Togepi walks up his back and tries to comfort him. The boy mistakes the Pokemon for Pikachu and thanks it for always standing by him. When he realizes his mistake, he throws Togepi in the air out of surprise and straight into a Fearow's mouth! The Pokemon flies off with Togepi and the group run after the bird. Meanwhile, Jessie, James, and Meowth are looking out for Pikachu from atop one of the Viridian tall buildings when the Fearow drops Togepi on top of James's butt.Jessie goes off on a fantasy about how their boss would be so happy to get a Togepi but Togepi walks off to a wooden ledge that connects the building Team Rocket is on to the building one over, high above a road. Jessie tries to follow Togepi and in typical Team Rocket fashion, Jessie falls straight down, into the concrete, creating a Jessie-shaped hole in the ground. And Togepi falls on top of her.Note: The “silly” scenes of the episode seem rather out of character for the show. Up until this episode, the puns have been rather limited, and the on-the-nose comedy was practically non-existent. This episode marks a sudden shift in the tone of the show in our catch-up to become more of a slapstick comedy. In my personal watch-through of the series, this doesn't persist for long but it does make me wonder. At the same time, Gary Oak challenges Giovanni who sits in a balcony at his Gym. A Persian sits by his side. It's a three-on-three battle. Gary calls out his Nidoking while Giovanni releases Golem. Golem uses Tackle and Nidoking returns with the same attack.Golem rolls off and loses the round. Giovanni calls out his Kingler. Gary uses his Pokedex to find out about Kingler and calls back his Nidoking. The boy summons his Arcanine which uses Take Down. Then uses Firespin and in typical anime fashion, the fire attack works surprisingly well against the water Pokemon. Finally, Arcanine's Fire Blast pushes Kingler over and Arcanine wins. Seems like a pretty easy Gym battle but Giovanni only smirks. He stands up from his chair and he promises to calls out his most powerful Pokemon.Who could it be? The Pokemon's eyes glow immediately and it knocks back Arcanine. Giovanni tells Gary to use as many Pokemon as he wants. And Gary calls out his Nidoking and it with Arcanine attack at the same time. But the mysterious Pokemon lifts both into the air. Who could this be?Note: This is a cross-over hint for the first Pokemon movie. In fact, this exact battle plays out in a little more detail in the movie. We cut to Team Rocket approaching their boss, Giovanni, the gym leader. They are excited to present a Pokemon even rarer than Pikachu. They present him with Togepi. But the boss is not impressed. He questions them on Togepi's abilities but Jessie, James, and Meowth struggle to come up with an answer. He berates them heavily for being absent for months and presenting him with such a sub par prize. Giovanni gets a call and he leaves immediately because of an “accident”. He bestows the Team with three powerful Pokemon to help them protect the gym. They're gym leaders!Giovanni goes into the basement and releases an imprisoned MewTwo to attend to an assignment.Meanwhile, Ash, Misty, and Brock are running around looking for Togepi. They get to the gym and come across Gary who is vastly out of it. He tells Ash about the mysterious Pokemon and how it is an evil Pokemon. Gary insists that no one will ever beat the mysterious Pokemon. And Team Rocket makes its debut! They sing their song and tell the “twerps” that they are the new Gym leaders. Ash wonders out loud why Team Rocket is involved with the Gym but we don't find out much of anything.Platforms on opposite side of the gym rise from the ground and Ash climbs up, reluctantly. Team Rocket calls out Machamp, Rhydon, and a Kingler while Ash calls out his Squirtle. It's a three-on-one battle. Squirtle gets a beating from Machamp and Ash gets shocked — the platforms are rigged to make the trainer feel the pain of their Pokemon. Ash calls out his Bulbasaur and Jessie counters it with her Kingler.Bulbasaur uses Vine Whip and Kingle protects itself using a Harden. It then counters with Bubble that hits Bulbasaur straight on the face. Ash gets shocked again. Gary warns Ash that they're too powerful but Ash vows to persevere, an action that shocks Gary. The boy calls out his Pidgeotto and it hits Rhydon with a Quick Attack, and then with a Double Edge attack. The attacks hit their mark and Jessie gets electrocuted!James apparently wired both sides of the stadium with the electricity. Meowth comes to the rescue with yet another invention meant for Team Rocket to win. As he attempts to press the button to launch it, Gary tackles him to the ground.Jessie calls out Arbok and Weezing in desperation and despite it being against the rules so Ash calls forth his Pikachu. Pikachu immediately jumps on Arbok and fires off an electric attack that has Giovanni's Pokemon on the run and Team Rocket's Arbok and Weezing KOs along with Jessie.Ash wins the match! Gary's cheerleaders give him a cheer. Gary remarks that while Ash is a pretty good trainer after all, he would be no match for the mysterious Pokemon. The boy demands his badge but Team Rocket refuses to give it. The stray Togepi makes its way to the remote control that Meowth held earlier and sets off a bomb. Team Rocket blasts off but leave behind the Earth badge which Ash picks up and claims as hisThe entire building collapses and is left in ruins. The group was leaving and Ash is excited to get to the Pokemon league, despite having no idea where it was. They decided to go back to Pallete Town to see Professor Oak and ask him.Okay, so this was an interesting episode in many aspects. One of them is that we finally get to find out who the leader of Team Rocket is. We also get an intro to the movie. Gary looks up to Ash and his strength for the first time ever and I feel like it fundamentally changes their relationship. Ash slowly inches toward becoming Gary's equal. We're not going to review an episode next time, but the first movie! Because of MewTwo's appearance in several Pokemon episodes, the movie is technically canon and while Ash doesn't catch a new Pokemon, doesn't get a badge, and obviously, doesn't compete in a league, I still think it's worthy of review.Triviathis is only one of three Indigo League episodes featuring MewTwo. Note that the battle involving MewTwo was adapted to the anime style of the show here, but looks slightly different in the moviePikachu defeats Rhydon despite Rhydon's Ground type having immunity to Electric moves. This is the first time we see Giovanni's entire face and hear him talk without a voice filterDespite being on episode 68, this is the quickest Ash earns all of the league badges in any seasonGary's 10 badges include only 4 real badges. I wasn't lying about binge podcasting!  Here's a quick episode about Treeko, Ash and Pikachu's parenting skills, and a Seviper that was born to be a member of Team Rocket.  Arbok shed a massive snakeskin to fill, but I think Seviper will make a nice replacement.  Click here to download or listen! And my, my, there's a lot of stuff to keep you busy on the Pokemon/nerdy front. Did I mention I have a new special episode up? Pokemon Adventures, Volume 1, chapters 6-9, if you're interested!Pokepress went out to the Pokemon Sun and Moon: Guardians Rising pre-release, and got to talk with some people about that event. What is there to look forward to in the coming season? Read here to see what Jake said! They also made it out to Record Store Day 2017, and then decided they needed even more music with this unboxing of the Alola single. And if that wasn't enough, did a radio show featuring even more video game music! And then, their podcast has plenty of stuff about Pokemon and pokemon music, new episodes up!
