We had a score to settle with N. And then, spoilers... we did. This week on the Unova Tourism Committee, the Eight Badge Gates, Victory Road, the Elite Four, N's Castle, and a man impersonating our mom! That's it for round 1 of this tour, and we'll take a few eps doing other things before we jump back in... but we WILL jump back in, for Black 2 & White 2.
The valiant knight Don Joey and fun-loving guy Esteban Humano enter the Blueberry Academy's Terarium and it's THUNDERDOME! These are some of the toughest fights we've taken on in all our years, even if not all Elite Four members were pulling their weight (and certainly not in terms of the Elite Tests). Also, it's our penultimate episode of the season, so clear the runway for some rants!

This week on The Free Cheese, you have to get more of them. Our two panel members play through Pokémon Gold Version and Pokémon Silver Version. We visit Johto in this episode and discuss our third of four Wii Sports Killers. While only the second in the core series, the pair of games were originally intended to be the final games in the series and brought a significant number of additions to the gameplay. We highlight the 100 new Pokémon, how the day and night cycle game impacts your adventure, and what it means to be friends with a Pokémon. This episode covers our individual journeys through the end of Johto and victory over the Elite Four.

My name is Cody (0:00:36) Jonnie: And, my name is Johnny. (0:00:37) Codey: And we are here today to talk about cottagecore games (0:00:45) Codey: As always transcripts are available in the show notes and on the website (0:00:49) Codey: And today’s podcast is about (0:00:52) Codey: Palia Which is a game that Johnny and I have both played and we actually played it together Wow [laughs] (0:00:59) Jonnie: So cool. (0:01:00) Codey: - Wow, MMOs. (0:01:05) Codey: So, we will be talking about Palia, (0:01:08) Codey: and as always, we have some news, (0:01:10) Codey: but a little lighter on the news this week, (0:01:12) Codey: which is pretty cool. (0:01:13) Codey: But first, Johnny, how are you? (0:01:15) Codey: What have you been up to? (0:01:16) Jonnie: I’m good. There is a game that I’ve been playing and I don’t know if you’ve heard of it. It’s called Palia. (0:01:23) Jonnie: No, it’s not called Palia. I have been playing that one, but I mean you talk about Pal World, (0:01:27) Jonnie: which they both start the same, so you know. (0:01:30) Codey: Oh, you’re on the PAL world train. (0:01:33) Jonnie: Well, I was on the Pal World train and I’m not off the Pal World train, like it’s a it’s a fine game. (0:01:40) Jonnie: I just kind of got what I wanted out of that game relatively quickly. (0:01:47) Jonnie: I hope there’s like zero interest in talking about the controversy around the game. (0:01:53) Jonnie: It is just a survival game with Pokemon who do things in the world and there’s more like, (0:01:59) Jonnie: I guess probably deeper combat as a result of there being Pokemon, which I liked Pokemon Legends Arceus, Arceus. I’ll edit out the one that’s right. I liked that game. (0:02:04) Codey: Mm-hmm. (0:02:08) Codey: Mm-hmm. (0:02:16) Jonnie: I think this game has a similar-ish gameplay loop. It’s not as fast and fluid as Arceus and (0:02:24) Codey: Mm-hmm. (0:02:25) Jonnie: there’s a lot more of that survival base building aspect, which I don’t like survival games. (0:02:27) Codey: Mm-hmm. (0:02:30) Jonnie: I kind of just find that base building stuff boring and pointless. So I did like a tower and I did some of the boss battles and I was like, oh okay, I kind of get what this game is, (0:02:35) Codey: Mm-hm. (0:02:42) Jonnie: but there’s not a compelling narrative that makes me feel like, oh I need (0:02:46) Jonnie: to go and do all of that. It’s kind of like, oh I did some of that and that feels like enough. (0:02:53) Jonnie: That’s I guess my mini summary of Palworld. I also think the gun side of things is just a little (0:03:05) Jonnie: 15 year old edgelord vibes. It comes off really cringe and a lot of things in the game kind of do (0:03:08) Codey: Yeah. (0:03:14) Jonnie: That’s where you’re like, killing the bad guys. (0:03:16) Jonnie: And… you can… like the way you release Pokemon is with a Meat Cleaver and then you can eat them and it’s just like, ugh, it’s just all a bit like, stop trying so hard. (0:03:17) Codey: Yeah. (0:03:24) Codey: Yeah. (0:03:28) Codey: Yeah, I, to me, it looked like Fortnite, Pokemon, Arceus, Breath of the Wild, I don’t know. (0:03:37) Codey: And I just, that’s not a compelling enough thing for me. (0:03:43) Codey: Um, so, I was not, I didn’t do it, but, um, yeah. (0:03:51) Codey: I mean that’s… (0:03:52) Jonnie: Yeah, I mean, it is more fun than Pokemon. (0:03:54) Jonnie: Um, you know. (0:03:55) Codey: Whoa! (0:03:56) Codey: Partake. (0:03:58) Jonnie: That is not a hot take. Pokemon has not been fun for a long time. (0:04:01) Codey: Oh no. (0:04:02) Codey: Oh no. (0:04:04) Jonnie: So, you know, how’s that going for it? (0:04:04) Codey: Um… (0:04:05) Codey: Um… (0:04:06) Jonnie: Um, but I think even there, right? (0:04:08) Jonnie: Like, I, even if I don’t enjoy a Pokemon game as much, I am more likely to play through it to the end because I’m so used to the loop and the, you know, beating the Elite Four. (0:04:20) Jonnie: I start the game knowing that beating the elite for- (0:04:22) Jonnie: is the objective, and there was no real hook like that for me in PowerWorld. (0:04:26) Jonnie: It was kind of like, cool, I experienced it. (0:04:28) Jonnie: I’ve been part of the hot topic of the day, and now I’m keen to move on to other things. (0:04:34) Codey: Mm-hmm, that’s fair. (0:04:40) Jonnie: But that’s really all I’ve been doing. What do you mean up to Cody? (0:04:45) Codey: Well, I just submitted a manuscript, so I’m very excited about that. (0:04:55) Codey: Any grad student listening is probably screaming like excitedly for me because it is a huge undertaking to publish a manuscript. (0:05:06) Codey: So it basically like took up a lot of my energy and time the last like month or so of trying like get it all organized and (0:05:15) Codey: getting it like sent to different people and then I’ll like think that something’s really good and then one of my co-authors will be like no like actually fix this and I’m like heck and so like that’s it’s just to finally just have it like be in the hands of the editors or reviewers or whomever is just like so great other than that I also just finally got ADHD medication (0:05:45) Codey: and for some reason my brain was like cool you can now hyper focus pretty effectively on things and shut your brain off why not build a fox shaped island in Minecraft so I’m building an island that is this in the shape of a fox a sleeping fox and I’m going to build a fox sanctuary on top of it and And also I’m. (0:06:15) Codey: Building it large enough that it shows up as a Sleeping Fox on the biggest size map. (0:06:24) Codey: Which ends up being. (0:06:24) Jonnie: I… I have a question. (0:06:26) Codey: Yeah, yeah, yeah. (0:06:27) Jonnie: Why? (0:06:30) Codey: Because my ADHD brain has decided that this is what brings me joy. (0:06:37) Codey: And it genuinely is so amazing. (0:06:44) Codey: I mean, it might also be. (0:06:45) Codey: It’s basically a testament to how much I hate writing, that my brain was like, “What could be more fun than this? Like, maybe this thing?” (0:06:57) Codey: So yeah, it’s basically, oh hello. I have a cat rubbing against my leg right now. Hello, little man. (0:07:03) Codey: It’s basically, I think we calculated it, it’s like probably 30,000 blocks, Minecraft blocks. (0:07:15) Codey: And we’re using orange terrac- so I’m not doing it alone. One of my best friends, Devin, shout out to Devin, I love you, you’re one of my best friends. (0:07:23) Codey: Anytime that either of us are going through anything in our lives, we’ll just like start up a Minecraft server. (0:07:31) Codey: And so, last few months have been pretty stressful, so we started our Minecraft server, and we’ve been doing these like fun little projects like this, and I just decided to do this. (0:07:39) Codey: And he was like, he had a moment where he was like, “Okay, okay, okay, we’re doing this.” (0:07:45) Codey: I guess, okay. And so he’s been mining terracotta for me and dying it white. (0:07:53) Codey: Luckily, like there’s this new biome that has orange terracotta that like naturally spawns, so he doesn’t have to make- to dye the orange ones. (0:08:00) Codey: So he can just like make it, and we can just farm it, and then I use it to build. (0:08:09) Codey: So yeah, I basically- he does that in the mornings, and then I log on in the evenings. (0:08:15) Codey: And construct. It has a snoot so far, and I’m building up the top of the head. (0:08:25) Codey: So listeners, if you’re interested in hearing the updates of Foxcraft, I’ll start posting about it in the Slack because it is- it’s gonna take probably a month to finish it. (0:08:37) Codey: Like we’re not even halfway done with the head. And I have- the head is like- the head is like the- (0:08:40) Jonnie: Great, I’m excited to get more updates on on Fox craft, but also the sound this sounds awfully a lot like a job (0:08:45) Codey: the smallest part. No, no, no, it’s fun. It’s fun. I like. This is a- this is a- oh yeah, we do have shift work going. (0:08:51) Jonnie: Mm-hmm, you’ve got shift work going you know (0:08:56) Codey: This is another like one of those things where sometimes I’m like, “Am I autistic? Like, am I a little autistic? Do I have a touch of the tism? I think I do.” (0:09:06) Codey: Like, if this- if this- this tickles my brain in a good way. (0:09:12) Jonnie: Well, maybe we won’t self-diagnose, but we’ll just say you must really like foxes somewhere in there. (0:09:18) Codey: Oh no, it’s more like my therapist was like, “Perhaps.” (0:09:25) Codey: It’s a little bit past self-diagnosing, but anyway. (0:09:26) Jonnie: Ugh. (0:09:29) Codey: So yeah, but the most important thing really that I’ve been working on, (0:09:33) Codey: I mean, this is sarcasm. The most important thing is Fox Craft, but (0:09:38) Codey: sarcastically, I went to an event that happened today, Americans. This is, today is February 2nd. (0:09:49) Codey: Johnny, what do you know about Groundhog’s Day? (0:09:52) Jonnie: I know there is a terrible Bill Murray movie, which actually now that I think about it, like, do you need to say terrible before Bill Murray movie? I think that’s just implied. (0:10:02) Jonnie: So, and the, like, I don’t know, I assume it’s a groundhog, but like, that’s the weirdest name for what, you know, basically just looks like a… I don’t know. (0:10:16) Jonnie: a slightly larger rat comes out because I’ve been sleeping or whatever I don’t (0:10:20) Codey: Mm-hmm. (0:10:22) Jonnie: know why they come out they just do and Americans go crazy because they’re all in some weird cult that’s that’s that’s groundhog’s day right (0:10:30) Codey: Yeah, I mean, you’re not wrong. Okay, so Groundhog’s Day is a tradition observed in the United States and Canada on February 2nd of every year. It derives, this is from the Wikipedia, (0:10:43) Codey: it derives from the Pennsylvania Dutch superstition that if a groundhog, a groundhog is also known as a marmot or a woodchuck or my personal favorite, a whistle pig. A groundhog emerges from its burrow on this day and sees its shadow. It will retreat to its den and winter will go on for six more weeks. If it does not… (0:11:00) Codey: see its shadow, then spring will arrive early. (0:11:06) Codey: So this sounds… (0:11:09) Codey: That’s like, okay, cool, whatever. (0:11:10) Codey: Like there’s probably a guy that like watches this groundhog come out right over. No, it’s a cult. (0:11:16) Codey: 100%. So the ceremony is held in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, (0:11:22) Codey: which is less than two hours from where I am. (0:11:24) Codey: So I’ve been wanting to go to this every year. (0:11:28) Codey: And it just hasn’t, I just haven’t been able to make it. (0:11:30) Codey: This year, I was able to make it. (0:11:33) Codey: And basically it centers around what is what Wikipedia says is the semi mythical groundhog named Punxsutawney Phil. (0:11:41) Codey: So he, Punxsutawney Phil basically comes out. (0:11:48) Codey: And apparently like looks, I’m trying to find to see if I can find like the ceremony because this is ridiculous. (0:11:56) Codey: He basically comes out and looks at him. (0:12:00) Codey: He looks around and sees his shadow and the wizards who are called wizards, the guys that run Groundhog’s Day in Punxsutawney, (0:12:14) Codey: basically listen to him so Phil comes out, he either does or does not see his shadow, and whispers to the wizard who can understand Groundhog ease. (0:12:30) Codey: Phil tells them whether or not he saw his shadow and if he did, they literally have scripts that they read. (0:12:38) Codey: People who go to this event every year, they know what the script is. (0:12:44) Codey: There’s a certain part in the script where the guy doesn’t even finish saying everything. (0:12:50) Codey: There’s a certain part where he says either “and his shadow fell upon him” or something, or “and a shadow he did not see”. (0:12:58) Codey: And at that point the crowd. (0:13:00) Codey: It goes crazy, but basically like thousands of people mock hawk flock thousands of people flock to this city in Pennsylvania and watch this ceremony and some of them show up at like midnight and the ceremony isn’t until sunrise, which was 730 this morning. (0:13:18) Codey: We left at 430 to get there and we got there and there’s literally thousands of people around this little stage of any with these guys that like are all. (0:13:30) Codey: Wearing like top hats and like black jackets and very like they look very New York investment banker of the 20s or something like that. (0:13:42) Codey: And yeah, he was just it was just so crazy and he did not see a shadow so spring is going to come early to the United States. Praise be to our groundhog meteorologist. (0:13:59) Jonnie: I have so many thoughts. (0:14:02) Codey: Okay, yeah, yeah, that’s fair fair. (0:14:02) Jonnie: First, Whistlepig Day would sound so much better. (0:14:05) Jonnie: That’s just first thought. (0:14:06) Jonnie: That’s just undeniably a better name. (0:14:10) Jonnie: Second thought, the fact that there are wizards surrounding this is like, yeah, you’re right. (0:14:14) Jonnie: This is definitely a cult, and it sounds like a cult I kind of want to be a part of, because any cult that has wizards dressed as 1920s bankers, (0:14:15) Codey: It’s a cold. (0:14:21) Jonnie: that sounds kind of amazing. (0:14:22) Jonnie: I’m into this. (0:14:23) Codey: Yeah. (0:14:24) Jonnie: Third, based on your description, (0:14:27) Jonnie: an alien landed on Earth, and they (0:14:29) Jonnie: would legitimately think that you’re just describing another game. (0:14:31) Jonnie: It is that sort of– (0:14:34) Jonnie: that sort of… (0:14:34) Codey: So, I actually, I was debating mentioning this that like, I kind of want a game about this. (0:14:42) Jonnie: And that was going to be my final point. I think this is this would be a great basis for a cottage core (0:14:48) Jonnie: game like you do the year, you know, it starts on Groundhog’s Day and (0:14:53) Jonnie: Maybe I don’t know what you’re working towards but like that make that your sort of New Year’s event That sounds like a great little thing to do (0:15:00) Codey: Well, so Punxsutawney, here, I’m going to try and find this information, Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania has a population of 5,000 humans. (0:15:12) Codey: So during this celebration, their population basically doubles. (0:15:18) Codey: So imagine being in, like, Stardew or Coral Island or something, and one single day of the year, the population doubles, (0:15:30) Codey: like, even though it was Friday and it was really, really early, all the stores were open. (0:15:36) Codey: Like, the bookstore was open and they had free hot chocolate and, like, they had, like, a couple different craft shows that were going on in this. (0:15:44) Codey: So it’s everyone, basically, in this community, basically, like, waits for this, like, this is their big, like, tourism thing every year. (0:15:54) Codey: So I think the goal of a game like that would be to build up your store. (0:16:00) Codey: Make sure you’re not going to run out of stock. Make sure that you have enough food for all of these people, enough, like, infrastructure, that you have enough parking because, like, we had to find parking and we almost had, like, some of the last parking spaces. (0:16:18) Codey: And so, like, there’s all this stuff that you could totally do in a game and have the regular day-to-day thing that you’re doing, like, you know, farming or whatever, just kind of be, like, normal, but you are always building up to that. (0:16:30) Codey: And so, like, you have to go to this huge event, annual event, where it kind of starts becoming, like, city skylines or something, where you have to manage, like, all these people. (0:16:46) Jonnie: Make it happen internet. There we go. We’ve done the hard work. We came up with the idea right? That’s the hard part (0:16:48) Codey: Yeah, make it happen. (0:16:52) Codey: Well, now that we’ve spent probably 15 minutes talking about Groundhog Day, and listeners, let me know if you’ve gone to the place where Punxsutawney Phil is, is called Gobbler’s Knob. Let me know if you’ve gone there. And Gobbler’s Knob. (0:17:04) Jonnie: But, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, it’s called what? (0:17:11) Jonnie: This is definitely like, I call it that is… [Laughing] (0:17:15) Jonnie: How is that a real name for a place? (0:17:18) Codey: Yeah, it is. (0:17:22) Codey: I’ll also post some pictures in the slack of me and my friends there, and also Stella. Stella went, “Oh, and the town has, like, Groundhog Day.” (0:17:30) Codey: Groundhog statues outside of a bunch of the buildings. So, like, outside of the library, they have a Groundhog that’s, like, reading a book. (0:17:38) Codey: And then outside of the bank, they have one that, like, has money. Outside of the fireman’s house, they have one with, like, a fireman’s axe holding a baby. (0:17:46) Codey: So, they have all of these, like, the whole town has leaned into it, 100%. But, yeah, so it’s a cult. (0:18:00) Codey: Okay, well, now that we’ve talked about cults, let’s talk about some news. Speaking of cults, Wildflowers… (0:18:10) Codey: I don’t know if Wildflowers is a cult. I just, the way… Kev… Kev has cult-like devo… devotion for this game. (0:18:12) Jonnie: Look, if it is, Kiv is definitely in that cult. (0:18:22) Codey: So, there’s more details on an update that’s coming up. There is going to be a hair stylist’s salon named Yuri’s Soul. (0:18:30) Codey: I’m just going to add a bunch of hairstyles. There’s a plushie coming. And I did a little bit of internet sleuthing, as someone who has not played Wildflowers. (0:18:42) Codey: I did a little bit of internet sleuthing. The picture of the plushie that they have on Twitter, which you can find on the show notes, is, like, obscured. (0:18:50) Codey: Like, it’s kind of in shadow. So, you can’t really tell what it is. But I think it’s a flying pig. What do you think? (0:18:58) Jonnie: Uh, I’m sure flying pig sounds like a thing that a plushie could be. (0:19:02) Codey: » Okay, okay, okay, yeah, so it definitely looks like the flying pig to me. (0:19:04) Jonnie: I have done zero internet’s locally. (0:19:12) Codey: I just kind of like looked up. (0:19:18) Codey: Oh my gosh, sorry, I scrolled down and it went to discover more and Disney Dreamlight Family tweeted today and said, (0:19:28) Codey: tweeted today and said we might not. (0:19:30) Codey: I have groundhogs in the game, but what do you think a copybara seeing its shadow mean? (0:19:40) Codey: They’re leaning into groundhog’s day. (0:19:43) Codey: Um, so, but yeah, I’m pretty sure it’s flying pig. So flying pig plush coming to wildflowers (0:19:51) Codey: Unconfirmed is that it’s a flying pig, but pretty sure it is. (0:19:54) Codey: Yeah, I mean, have you played wildflowers? Have you? Do you have? (0:19:57) Jonnie: No, the visual… I get that it’s better than it looks, but the visual style I just find very off-putting, and there’s just too much else that I want to play and can’t get to, that even though this game is meant to be really good, it’s just too much of a block of me to invest any time into this one, unfortunately. (0:20:19) Codey: Yep, I am in the exact same boat. (0:20:23) Codey: But I’m sure that we’ll hear all about Yuri’s salon (0:20:27) Codey: Update and all of that from Kev, which would be great. (0:20:32) Codey: Next up is Lightyear Frontier. (0:20:35) Codey: The early access for this game is releasing on March 19th on Steam, Xbox, and Game Pass. (0:20:42) Codey: There is a demo out now on Steam (0:20:46) Codey: And this game will be a part of Steam next. (0:20:49) Codey: Which starts on February 5th to the 12th so I believe by the time this podcast comes out, the next fest will be going on. (0:20:58) Codey: So yeah, if you are interested in seeing some gameplay or anything like that, that would be a really good thing to tune into. (0:21:08) Codey: What are your thoughts on this? (0:21:09) Jonnie: Yeah, and Lightyear Frontier is the farming, but in mechs. That’s their gimmick, I guess. (0:21:18) Codey: in like a, in space, in space for me. (0:21:22) Codey: I saw on there, on this news from Steam, (0:21:26) Codey: like, you know how we say like, hello farmers or whatever. (0:21:30) Codey: They say exo farmers. (0:21:32) Codey: So they said like something like, (0:21:34) Codey: play the demo now exo farmers. (0:21:35) Codey: And I was like, oh my gosh. (0:21:39) Codey: Like that’s just kind of a cute little way of talking about them. (0:21:42) Codey: I don’t know, I don’t know what exo means. (0:21:44) Codey: Now that I said it and then now I’m like, (0:21:46) Codey: what, wait, what am I talking about? (0:21:48) Codey: What does this mean? (0:21:51) Codey: Meaning outside, outer, external. (0:21:57) Codey: Cool. (0:21:57) Jonnie: Like like every farm every farmer is technically an exo farmer (0:22:02) Codey: No, no, no. (0:22:03) Codey: Cause it’s like outside, like outer worlds, like space. (0:22:07) Codey: Like we call them exoplanets. (0:22:09) Codey: Like exoplanets are outside of our solar system. (0:22:15) Jonnie: I don’t know how that applies to farming, but it sounds made up. (0:22:15) Codey: You know? (0:22:18) Codey: It’s exoplanet farmers. (0:22:22) Codey: You’re a farmer on an exoplanet. (0:22:24) Jonnie: But they don’t say exoplanet farmers, they say exopharmers. (0:22:27) Codey: No, they said exo. (0:22:29) Codey: It’s just a little cute little conjugation. (0:22:30) Jonnie: They should change it to remove the “e” and just be like “exo” like “Kisshag farmers”. (0:22:35) Jonnie: That would be a much cuter way to say hello. (0:22:37) Codey: I kind of want to re-record “Hello, Kiss Hug Farmers! Welcome to another episode of the Harvest Season!” (0:22:43) Jonnie: What? (0:22:49) Codey: Oh my gosh, we are off the rails. Um, yeah. (0:22:53) Jonnie: Okay, um, are you going to try this? (0:22:57) Codey: So, I’ve never been a big mech person. Like, growing up, like… (0:23:07) Codey: uh… transformers, like, that kind of stuff. It was never my jam. (0:23:13) Codey: Um, so I don’t… to be determined, um… but prob’s not. What about you? (0:23:20) Jonnie: So I talked about this one a little bit on I think the upcoming Game of the Year show, (0:23:28) Jonnie: where it’s on my list of games that I want to try but there may not be a priority. (0:23:35) Jonnie: But I don’t think I knew at that point that it was coming to Game Pass, which it’s amazing how much Game Pass changes my willingness to try some stuff out, right? (0:23:44) Jonnie: Because I’m way more willing to just jump in for a bit and see if it instantly grabs me or not. (0:23:49) Jonnie: So I think it’s a long time. (0:23:50) Jonnie: A lot more likely than I initially anticipated that I will give this a go, because I like the visual style, it feels distinct, I don’t have a particular affinity or non affinity for mechs, but I am interested to see what it means in terms of how they differentiate, you know, your traditional cottagecore farming game loop with the addition of something like a mech, because you can see a lot, you know, there’s probably more interesting ways to do tools and things like that when you have a mech, (0:24:20) Jonnie: and I am really hoping they take full advantage of, and it’s not just like regular tools, but they’re just, they look like mech attachments, right? I’m hoping there’s something else that distinguishes them, which I guess technically I could find out because the demo is out, so I could probably find out or look into it a bit more, so. (0:24:34) Codey: Yeah. (0:24:38) Codey: Mm-hmm. (0:24:41) Codey: But the demos… the demos on Steam… (0:24:44) Jonnie: Yeah, yeah, demos are only on Steam. (0:24:44) Codey: It’s not… not Game Pass. (0:24:49) Codey: Yeah, I agree with you about the Game Pass thing. (0:24:52) Codey: Like, it’s really opened up what I’m able to play. (0:24:57) Codey: And I really like that. (0:24:58) Codey: But I don’t think that your frontier will be that. (0:25:01) Codey: Because again, like, we have so many other things. (0:25:04) Codey: I want to play, so many other things I’m doing in my life. (0:25:07) Codey: And something… if it’s a game that’s going to like pull me in like that, (0:25:10) Codey: like Coral Island or something, it’s really got to grab me. (0:25:13) Codey: So… (0:25:16) Codey: Okay, so… (0:25:17) Codey: Ages of… next… next up on our news list… (0:25:20) Codey: Ages of Kataria… (0:25:22) Codey: was meant to be coming out Q1 2024, so… (0:25:26) Codey: anytime. (0:25:28) Codey: But has been delayed until Q2 2025. (0:25:34) Codey: It personally seemed a little late to be making that announcement, (0:25:36) Codey: but I get it. (0:25:36) Jonnie: Mm-hmm. (0:25:40) Codey: Quote, (0:25:41) Codey: “We have been working hard on Ages of Kataria, (0:25:43) Codey: and our main goal is to find funding to expand the team and work full-time.” (0:25:50) Codey: I’m about to read you a list of things that they’ve been working on. (0:25:52) Codey: See if you can pick out the things that… (0:25:56) Codey: one of these things is not like the other. (0:25:58) Codey: Okay. (0:25:59) Codey: Quote, “In the past few months, we’ve been working on building upgrades, (0:26:03) Codey: customization. (0:26:04) Codey: villager conversations, traits, events and quests, death, (0:26:09) Codey: hunting, cooking, farming, animals, clicking to collect resources, (0:26:14) Codey: villager pooping mechanics, and so much more, which we will be discussing and showing in future updates. (0:26:21) Codey: Uh, Johnny, any of those, any of those jump out to you? (0:26:24) Jonnie: Yeah, I’m really interested in these villager pooping mechanics. (0:26:26) Codey: Save! (0:26:29) Codey: What do you mean? (0:26:31) Codey: I’m like, I’m that meme of, um… (0:26:34) Codey: of, uh… (0:26:35) Codey: Oh my gosh, Katniss Everdeen’s… (0:26:37) Codey: the… the friggin’ actress that plays her. (0:26:40) Codey: Where she’s like, “What do you mean?” (0:26:41) Codey: Like, “What do you mean?” (0:26:43) Codey: On Hot Ones. (0:26:45) Codey: Jennifer Lawrence, I think is her name. (0:26:47) Codey: Um… (0:26:49) Codey: I’m that meme when I read that. (0:26:51) Jonnie: Yeah, I’d like that is wild to me. I mean I assumed the actual answer you were looking for is diff like [laughing] (0:26:58) Codey: No, no, it was originally Villager Pooping Mechanics, but Death, I mean Death was like, (0:27:04) Codey: that’s interesting. (0:27:06) Codey: But that happens in-game, like everything else in this list is something that you would find in a Cottagecore game in some way or another. (0:27:15) Codey: But Villager Pooping Mechanics just like comes out, just stands out so much, and I have questions. (0:27:22) Jonnie: Yeah, and I mean I’ve kind of buried the lead somewhat but this update has (0:27:30) Jonnie: I would say there are some concerning elements to it, right, you know (0:27:35) Jonnie: They’re talking about looking for a publisher and this was a kick-started project (0:27:41) Jonnie: And I guess if you are a kickstarter of it, this is an update that I guess, you know (0:27:46) Jonnie: Would reduce the likelihood that you are actually going to get it and not saying whether it will or won’t happen (0:27:52) Jonnie: There’s now some additional hurdles that they are now flagging up (0:27:57) Jonnie: Which is unfortunate because I think this game looks like it’s got a great visual style to it (0:28:06) Jonnie: So hoping they can find the funding that they need but I would not be putting much stock in that queue to (0:28:12) Jonnie: 2025 date until there was more (0:28:15) Jonnie: More updates on whether or not they they find a publisher or you know are able to sort of clearly state. (0:28:24) Codey: They did have someone jump out on their Kickstarter three days ago, Shell M said you know so is it A that you needed more money and just didn’t tell anyone or B that you mismanaged the finances early on or underestimated how much you needed if B why weren’t we told about this before? (0:28:45) Codey: Just fair. (0:28:46) Codey: They got I’m trying to see $111,000 like like you people gave you money like you should at least let them know what what’s happening with that and it sounds like they you know $110,000 doesn’t really go that far and they had 10 people working on it originally and then when that money ran out some people had to leave and some people stayed to continue to work on the game but that a lot of people had to go back to working part-time and so it’s a lot of people’s time is now split and they’re not able you know if they still had the (0:29:24) Codey: work full-time with the whole team of 10 or team of whomever many are on there now they probably could get it out a lot earlier but I mean I get it I’ve this manuscript that I just submitted was supposed to be done like a year ago so I get it but it does yep mm-hmm (0:29:41) Jonnie: But I mean this is one of the risks around Kickstarter projects, right? You know, $110,000 is a lot of money in the context of an individual. (0:29:50) Jonnie: But in the context of developing a game when you’ve got a team of ten, that’s even just considering salaries. (0:29:54) Codey: Yep. (0:29:58) Jonnie: That’s only a couple of months, if that worth of runway. (0:30:02) Jonnie: And that’s not counting all of the, you know, server costs and all those other fun things that are very expensive. (0:30:08) Jonnie: expensive so $110,000 to develop a game is not. (0:30:11) Jonnie: I’m not sure if this is a game that’s not that much. It’s just the unfortunate reality of Kickstarter I guess. (0:30:18) Jonnie: But hopefully they can find their way out of it because the game looks good (0:30:18) Codey: - Yeah. (0:30:25) Codey: I definitely, I think that the people at Third Pie Studios, (0:30:30) Codey: and I’m assuming it’s Alex McCord, (0:30:31) Codey: who’s the CEO and creative director, (0:30:34) Codey: their post explaining the situation to the concerned people was very like the comment that they have on this. (0:30:41) Codey: It was very thorough and very polite and very good. (0:30:45) Codey: So, it does, it’s difficult, it’s difficult. (0:30:48) Codey: And it’s always sad when you have to like, postpone something, but I think they did a good job of… (0:30:53) Codey: Perhappeth, maybe, uh, let people know a little earlier, but it’s fine. (0:30:59) Codey: Stuff happens. (0:31:02) Codey: Um, stuff that, uh, should happen, might not happen, I don’t know. (0:31:09) Codey: I’m so scared to play this game. (0:31:11) Codey: Rusty’s retirement! (0:31:13) Codey: Has a public demo that is out now. (0:31:17) Codey: Oh, Johnny. (0:31:18) Codey: I want to do this demo so bad, but it seems like it’s like a floodgate, you know? (0:31:26) Codey: Like, once I push that button, am I just a slave to Rusty’s retirement? (0:31:34) Jonnie: Yes, yes is the answer to that question yep . (0:31:35) Codey: And keeping it going? (0:31:39) Codey: But I want to play? (0:31:40) Codey: And I want to help them? (0:31:42) Codey: I want to give them feedback? (0:31:43) Codey: I don’t know. (0:31:44) Codey: I don’t know, what did you think about this? (0:31:48) Jonnie: I mean, I’m in the same category as you, and Rusty’s retirement to serve him remembers as the idle farming game that’s being launched soon, but yeah, going into demo, I am equally concerned about this for all of the same reasons, and I think as… (0:32:10) Jonnie: Yeah, because we first talked about this a few months ago, and since then I think the… (0:32:18) Jonnie: Imagery and the, you know, like they’ve added more, we’re seeing more about how it will look on the screen and everything they add, I’m just like, oh, like it looks like it’s getting better, right? (0:32:24) Codey: Mm-hmm. (0:32:28) Jonnie: Like there’s those things that I have, like, you have those mental questions around, oh, how would this aspect work? And I feel like as time has gone on, I’m seeing those things come in in ways that’s like, yeah, that’s how I would want that to look. (0:32:29) Codey: Mm-hmm. (0:32:35) Codey: Mm-hmm. (0:32:40) Jonnie: So I’m very nervous, you know, the, you know, how we would just reference memes to describe our feelings on this, this is very much the… (0:32:43) Codey: Yeah, and… (0:32:48) Jonnie: Oh, yeah, yep, that’s the one. (0:32:52) Codey: Haha, I’m in danger. (0:32:54) Codey: Yeah. (0:32:56) Codey: Yeah. (0:32:58) Codey: Um. (0:33:00) Codey: So, yeah, I guess I don’t know if I’m trying to see. (0:33:06) Codey: Oh, it is PC and Mac. (0:33:14) Codey: I’ll probably do it. (0:33:16) Codey: Um, so, listeners listen back. (0:33:20) Codey: we’ll give feedback on this in maybe one of the next upcoming episodes. (0:33:24) Codey: I will probably bite the bullet and do this now that I’m not I don’t have a deadline that is of the for like the manuscript that is fast approaching so. (0:33:35) Jonnie: Yeah, and Al was telling me he’s gonna install this on his work PC, so he’s gonna have a very detailed show on it in a few weeks time. (0:33:45) Codey: Sure! (0:33:46) Jonnie: Just throwing Al totally under the bus, I don’t believe he’s not going to do that. (0:33:52) Jonnie: But he could do it. He could do it. He could do it for you listeners. (0:33:58) Codey: he’s probably screaming right now. okay so the last bit of news is for a game called Kamaeru a frog refuge and this has the same vibes as Usagi Shima so my brain was like oh let me figure out what Kamaeru means. in Japanese it means take a stand which is not what I was expecting it to be. I was expecting it to be like frog island or something because Usagi Shima is a bunny island. (0:34:28) Codey: But no. Okay. So Kamaeru frog refuge, quote foster a sanctuary for frogs and restore the biodiversity of the wetlands in Kamaeru, a cozy farming sim where you raise frogs by playing minigames and decorating your habitat. Hop right to it. (0:34:47) Codey: What do you have thoughts about this, Johnny? Are you? I have thoughts. (0:34:49) Jonnie: yeah it looks it looks really cute right like it definitely gives off the same same vibe as usagashima but it looks a lot more detailed just lots of little things about you know so in usagashima like you you kind of placed decorations but that was it’s like I think the the idea of restoring the wetlands looks cool it seems like there’s lots of customization options which is which is pretty cool the frogs look super cute and like it looks like There’s like tons of fun color combinations, so I’m guessing there’s going to be… (0:35:19) Jonnie: …a little bit of a Pokemon creature collection style aspect to this, which I know Usagushima had as well. (0:35:26) Jonnie: And alongside, you know, maybe some some more human characters and some interactions in that way. (0:35:32) Jonnie: This has the potential to be a really, really great game, I think. (0:35:40) Jonnie: Usagushima didn’t really stick with me. I think one, because I didn’t really want a mobile game at that point. (0:35:46) Jonnie: but also it just felt a bit shallow. (0:35:49) Jonnie: And this looks like it kind of has the depth that I’m looking for like this. (0:35:55) Jonnie: This is ticking a lot of boxes and I think for like this one is really interesting things in the cottagecore genre of (0:36:02) Jonnie: really doing something (0:36:04) Jonnie: Unique that doesn’t have to be like the whole thing doesn’t have to be a hundred percent unique, right? (0:36:08) Jonnie: A lot of this seems inspired by Utsagushima. However, well, and it’s probably not, right? (0:36:09) Codey: Right. (0:36:13) Jonnie: It’s probably done independently given how closely they’re sort of coming out. (0:36:16) Jonnie: But frogs is not an area that’s really been (0:36:19) Jonnie: explored or is that common outside of like the only other time I can think of really even seeing frogs is catching them in a farm with their with their critter so yeah that was kind of like a weird brain mush of thoughts because this is the first we’ve heard about this game if I remember rightly (0:36:23) Codey: Mm-hmm (0:36:40) Codey: Um, yeah, so I think this is the game that I saw on Instagram or on Instagram, (0:36:45) Codey: Twitter, and I tagged, uh, Al in it because someone tagged me in it because my friends know that this is the kind of game that I will just eat right up. (0:36:53) Codey: This is the first time we’re covering it on the podcast. (0:36:55) Codey: I just want, I wanted to grab my facts straight before I said anything, but, (0:36:59) Codey: um, the developer of apico L, um, is actually also developing a frog breeding and collecting game called mud born. (0:37:07) Codey: So instead of bloodborne, it’s mud born. (0:37:10) Codey: Um, and it’s very, in the same vein, uh, looks a lot like, uh, apico. (0:37:17) Codey: So it’ll be the same kind of thing, um, of, uh, going and helping a frog, (0:37:25) Codey: uh, deity, um, rediscover her lost children. (0:37:30) Codey: Um, this is in, uh, Elle’s con a message about it in March of last year. (0:37:40) Codey: And the discord quote, um, I’ve always joked about making apico, but frog, but it’s never been much more than that with the game jam theme of pond. (0:37:50) Codey: However, it seems like a good opportunity to make it a reality. (0:37:55) Codey: Um, so he has been working on that, which is great. (0:37:59) Codey: So there, there are other frog games coming out. (0:38:02) Codey: Um, I just wanted to say that, uh, cause I really like it clearly, but this (0:38:10) Codey: is, uh, looks a lot different and looks like it’s own little thing. (0:38:13) Codey: And, um, I really like, like they actually have human characters in this game (0:38:17) Codey: that Usagi Shima did not have. (0:38:19) Codey: So there might be like kind of more of a social aspect. (0:38:24) Codey: And then I also saw kind of a crafting system or like a crafting mini game or something that looked a lot like, um, spirit fairs, mini games, which I was also really interested in. (0:38:36) Jonnie: yeah they looked really good and even little things like they was painting a birdhouse it looked like you know just as a little customization option which I (0:38:36) Codey: So. (0:38:40) Codey: Mm-hm, mm-hm, so yeah, right now it’s just coming 2024, we’re not really sure when. (0:38:51) Codey: But it is also gonna be part of Steam’s next fest. (0:38:56) Codey: So make sure to check in on that. (0:38:59) Codey: And last, I was looking when I looked at their thing earlier. (0:39:02) Codey: No, they’re not doing it anymore. (0:39:04) Codey: Nope, maybe they are, they’re broadcasting. (0:39:10) Codey: The developer is currently playing on Steam, and they are wearing a frog hat and have a bunch of frogs behind them. (0:39:19) Codey: And it’s so heckin’ cute. (0:39:21) Codey: So you could probably watch that stream video of them streaming the game. (0:39:26) Codey: But it looks pretty good. (0:39:27) Codey: Cool, well that was our news, woo. (0:39:31) Codey: So on to the main topic, which is Palia. (0:39:35) Codey: To remind people, Palia is one of the worst. (0:39:40) Codey: The phrase they used was “A cozy world made for you.” (0:39:44) Codey: It’s the free-to-play farming MMORPG game. (0:39:46) Codey: We have been playing it, I played it, probably maybe played like 30 hours, but that might be a little bit much. (0:39:58) Codey: Maybe like 20 hours around? (0:40:02) Codey: What about you, Johnny? (0:40:04) Codey: How are you playing the game? (0:40:06) Codey: thoughts, that non-spoilery. (0:40:10) Codey: kind of vibe thoughts about it to say before we jump in. (0:40:12) Jonnie: Yeah, so I’m playing on the Switch, and it runs really well on Switch, right, like I feel like that’s an important thing to recognize early, because the Switch is very old at this point. (0:40:23) Jonnie: Like it doesn’t run perfectly, I’m sure it runs a lot better if you’re playing via PC, but no real major issues in terms of how it plays. (0:40:32) Jonnie: And I really like what they’re trying to achieve with Palia, however I find it difficult to recommend at this stage until… (0:40:42) Jonnie: …there’s a little bit more from a content perspective in the game. It’s probably my very high level thought, but I really love what this game is trying to achieve from introducing that MMO aspect. (0:40:53) Codey: Yeah, I echo that sentiment. I’m also playing on Switch, and I think it has a lot of potential, (0:41:05) Codey: but that there’s some stuff that isn’t quite, some things that aren’t quite built out yet. (0:41:10) Codey: And after playing MMOs for so long, like World of Warcraft or something, I mean, and that’s probably not a fair comparison. But after playing things like that, like some of the (0:41:23) Codey: personality of the MMO side of it, and the world just seems, like it seems like you play for 10 hours and then you’re like, “Well, yep, I get it.” (0:41:33) Jonnie: Yeah, I do want to come back to the WoW comparison, because I think my initial, like my very very early thoughts when I started playing, was it did feel a little bit like when you first started playing. (0:41:45) Jonnie: Wow, obviously, like the combat is the big difference, but when I guess I think about how the world is constructed, it did feel like World of Warcraft where the world is big and your character feels a lot smaller than it typically does in cottagecore style games, which took a bit of like… (0:42:03) Jonnie: It was a bit of an adjustment, right? When you get the first quest to walk into town and like actually takes a little bit of time and you’re trying to work out where to go, that was a little bit of a brain reset and exploring the map. (0:42:15) Jonnie: Like the maps, so there’s two regions and they’re pretty decent size, and yeah, so there is that good early exploration element that I really like. (0:42:30) Codey: Mm-hmm. Yeah, I will say I haven’t really explored the second area too, too much, but (0:42:38) Codey: I agree that it feels like, like I feel like I’m still playing and exploring and still encountering things that are surprising to me. Or like, “Oh wow, I didn’t know this was here,” or “Oh, I didn’t, (0:42:52) Codey: I’ve never been over here before,” or finding out there’s a whole underground, (0:43:00) Codey: the city was really cool. So yeah, it’s got some, I think it’s got more good than bad, (0:43:10) Codey: but it’s definitely maybe like, “Wait a bit.” But, well, let’s dive into a little bit about the story itself. Do you have a good grasp on the story and want to mention it? (0:43:22) Jonnie: Yeah, so I think there’s two aspects to the story. Well, I think it’s all sort of one connected story. And there are a series of dungeons. There are currently three in the game, but there are at least, there’s at least one more intended. I’ve done all three of the of the dungeons. But it’s very closely tied, I guess, to the nature of people and (0:43:52) Jonnie: the world. So none of the other characters, none of the NPCs in the game are humans. They’re a different race. I can’t recall off the top of my head what exactly they are. Yeah. But you’re basically, you know, every player character in the world is a human that’s effectively being reanimated by some form of of God. And… (0:43:59) Codey: Mm-hmm. (0:44:05) Codey: No idea. I don’t know if I have ever known… (0:44:08) Codey: “Pallians.” (0:44:22) Jonnie: That enables, you know, you have a stronger connection into some of the magic and the dungeons are about exploring sort of what happened to humanity. And it seems like in the wider context of the world, magic is kind of one of those things that’s known about, but also heavily suppressed and kind of taboo to engage with. But some of those restrictions don’t apply to humans. And so you’re kind of exploring that at the stage that I’m up to, which is (0:44:52) Jonnie: to finish the story. But I guess a decent way through. There isn’t a… I don’t have a sense of what it’s building towards. I guess that’s that’s probably a big gap for me. (0:45:04) Codey: Mm hmm. That’s, that’s my biggest concern with the story is like, basically you teleport or get reanimated or whatever, but your character just like shows up and someone’s just standing there and they’re like, Oh, wow, another human, like, please follow the chain of humans that are heading to the town. And then you go to the town and then they give you like a plot of land. Um, and then you can build like a house on it and stuff, but. (0:45:34) Codey: Last that you’re just kind of free. I mean, there are like quests, but there’s not, it’s, (0:45:40) Codey: it’s very open world in that way that like you, you could then never do the quest ever again. They’re like the story quests, I guess some of the quests you have to do to be able to improve your, um, your abilities. But a lot of it, like it just seems, it seems secondary to me or just like a non- (0:46:04) Codey: existent almost so I would I would like that to be built up a little bit more and I also would like the characters to be built up a little bit more so there’s all the NPCs are basically pallions that live in this world that have have lived in this world and they have some like personality (0:46:34) Codey: to them and they have relationships between them and stuff but for some reason I just wasn’t really connecting to them I don’t know what your experience was yeah (0:46:41) Jonnie: Yeah I felt the same way. I think a lot of them, so a lot of the NPCs I would say that their role is to introduce various skills to you and there’s more skills than most cottagecore games have and it’s kind of like their whole, like they have one personality trait and that’s it so they’re very two dimensional in that way. (0:47:06) Jonnie: you know, I think about the bug catcher and his whole thing is he’s a kid and he’s part (0:47:11) Jonnie: of the local scout group or whatever their world equivalent is. And so he’s always excited and always kind of hyper and always wanting to catch bugs and that’s it, right? Like I didn’t feel like anything else from that character. (0:47:16) Codey: Yeah. (0:47:22) Codey: Mm-hmm. (0:47:28) Codey: Mm-hmm. (0:47:30) Codey: Or, like, the bookstore lady, (0:47:32) Codey: which I didn’t know there was a bookstore for the longest time, (0:47:34) Codey: but the bookstore lady, like, you go in there and she’s just, like, (0:47:38) Codey: has the vibe of, like, (0:47:40) Codey: “You hurt my books. I hurt your face.” (0:47:44) Codey: your face. Like she’s just very like protective of her book. (0:47:46) Codey: But then I don’t think I’ve talked to her about any like any time I talk to her. I don’t she’s not mentioned anything else Like I don’t know anything about her (0:47:57) Codey: There’s not like a time when I’ll go back in the bookstore and she’s like, okay I guess you’re you’re nice or whatever like but that could just be me not really understanding how to progress the (0:48:09) Codey: Like Hearts basically, I’m trying to think of how to like the progression of the of your (0:48:16) Codey: With these characters It’s not clear to me how to do that (0:48:21) Codey: After after a certain while you can gift them things but like half of the people I try and gift them something and they’re like No, I don’t want that (0:48:29) Jonnie: Yeah, so there’s this whole relationship side to the game, and it’s probably for me the weakest aspect, so you can talk to NPCs, and you can ask them for a clue about what someone wants each week. (0:48:45) Codey: Mm-hmm. (0:48:45) Jonnie: They want four different gifts, and you can, you know, increase the relationship by talking to them, and some of those sorts of things, but it kind of all feels surface level. (0:48:55) Jonnie: And I have to say, it’s very weird for an MMO. (0:48:59) Jonnie: That’s the part that really doesn’t connect because it’s like, yes, there are 20 of us all trying to make friends with the same character right now. (0:49:07) Jonnie: Like it’s it doesn’t feel particularly genuine and kind of feels at odds with everything else that the game is trying to do. (0:49:14) Jonnie: And potentially one of those features that they put in because this is what console games do. (0:49:15) Codey: Yeah. (0:49:21) Codey: Yeah. (0:49:23) Codey: I don’t really know how, (0:49:24) Codey: like I’m trying to think of like how that could be fixed. (0:49:26) Jonnie: I mean, just don’t have it in the game. I just don’t think it’s necessary. (0:49:28) Codey: And I’m not entirely sure. (0:49:31) Codey: Hmm, okay. (0:49:34) Codey: I guess that’s also true. (0:49:35) Codey: Like that was the other thing is like, (0:49:36) Codey: you don’t really know, so you’re human. (0:49:38) Codey: You don’t really know like why you’re here or if like you have some type of greater purpose (0:49:46) Codey: like you’re gonna ascend or something like, (0:49:49) Codey: or return to the dirt. (0:49:51) Codey: Like there’s no idea, at least in the beginning and at least to the part where I’m in in the story. (0:49:57) Codey: And so having romanceable aliens, basically, (0:50:05) Codey: I was like, what? (0:50:10) Codey: It just seemed a little like maybe not until (0:50:15) Codey: later on in the game. (0:50:16) Codey: What did that be something that I’d be thinking about? (0:50:19) Codey: I don’t know. (0:50:22) Codey: One thing that they just released though, (0:50:24) Codey: which I really like this in just as an aspect of farming games in general, (0:50:29) Codey: is there’s a character named Sabira and she’s like an older character. (0:50:33) Codey: You can now romance her. (0:50:36) Codey: They add it. (0:50:37) Codey: So basically like she’s probably in her like fifties or sixties or something. (0:50:41) Codey: And I think that farming games in general (0:50:45) Codey: is a way to open up that type of like relationship with older humans because as someone who, (0:50:52) Codey: I was married, surprise, like I was married (0:50:56) Codey: and I was in a relationship for nine years without human. (0:50:58) Codey: And then I left that relationship and then I was in my like late twenties and even like now if I were to be single in my thirties, (0:51:06) Codey: like I don’t, when I play farming games or whatever or play these games where you have like romanceable whatever it’s always like. (0:51:15) Codey: Yeah, early 20s are teenagers and it’s just like, but like, circumstances happen and other people need to find love as well. (0:51:26) Codey: And so I just really wish that that diversity was represented in games. (0:51:34) Codey: So yeah, I don’t know. I really liked that. (0:51:36) Jonnie: Yeah, I think diversity is important. (0:51:38) Jonnie: Um, yeah. (0:51:40) Codey: Cool. (0:51:45) Codey: Is there a character that like, stuck out to you that you really enjoyed? (0:51:48) Jonnie: um unfortunately the answer is no like I like now I can think about it and I can recall all of the different characters but I it’s almost in the bad way where I think they’re all sort of a bit tropey actually the one character the one character that I do like is the the fishing robot um the fishing the fishing robot is cool uh I i’m a big fan of him and he like I think I think particularly because his trope is… (0:52:01) Codey: I was literally about to say, “But what about the fishing robot?” (0:52:18) Jonnie: Unexpected, you know, where he’s sort of like looking for or trying to find that zen spot and help other people find I bet they don’t call it the zen spot. I can’t remember what he refers to it as but (0:52:30) Jonnie: I thought that was like a fun little twist on a robot character (0:52:30) Codey: Mm-hmm (0:52:34) Codey: Mm-hmm and his mannerisms are so cute and like (0:52:38) Codey: There are throughout the world Sometimes you’ll find like these shiny pebbles or whatever and someone mentioned that he really likes them I think his name’s like Inar or something Someone mentioned that he really likes them and so every time I find one I go and bring it to him and every single time He’s like over the moon about these shiny pebbles and I’m just like yours honky you Cute! (0:53:00) Codey: So, um, big fan of him for sure. (0:53:08) Codey: Um, well, since we talked about fishing, let’s talk about, um, something they say, (0:53:12) Codey: again, that’s part of this game is living off the land any way that you like. (0:53:17) Codey: Um, so they have, I think it’s eight. (0:53:20) Codey: Yeah. (0:53:20) Codey: Eight different like skills that you can improve. (0:53:26) Codey: Um, and some of them are, you know, fishing, hunting, mining, or fishing, (0:53:31) Codey: bug catching, foraging, those are all things that are in most games, but they also have hunting, um, furniture making, and then, oh, I guess gardening is another, like, uh, like regular one in these types of games. (0:53:42) Codey: Um, so let’s just briefly touch on these and like, talk about the pros and cons of each of them and the way that they do them, and if we really like it or not. (0:53:51) Codey: Um, so what do you think about the fishing? (0:53:53) Jonnie: I think fishing’

(34s) Al: My name is Al, and we are here today to talk about Cottagecore games. (36s) Codey: And my name is Cody. (38s) Codey: Whoo, you’re so low energy. (41s) Al: Woo. (43s) Al: (45s) Codey: Listeners, we were just like screaming at each other over the microphone talking about inconvenient humans. (46s) Al: Bye. (55s) Codey: The energy level is there somewhere. (56s) Al: Yeah, well, we just used it all up, that’s the problem. (1m) Codey: No, I still got more. (1m 4s) Codey: I can still I can still go. (1m 6s) Al: Well, you can always go for something, but you need to have something to actually rant about. (1m 12s) Al: Anyway. (1m 13s) Al: As always, transcripts are available for the podcast in the show notes and on the website, (1m 18s) Al: so go get them if you need them. (1m 22s) Al: episode we’re going to talk about. Let’s see if I can pronounce this. (1m 26s) Al: Usagi Shima. Usagi Shima. It’s a new mobile game. So of course, Cody had to be on because Cody is the mobile game. That’s the word, correspondent. I was like, “What’s the word, (1m 27s) Codey: That’s how I say usagi shima. (1m 37s) Codey: Correspondent, it me. (1m 39s) Codey: Yep. Yep. (1m 41s) Al: person? News person?” Yes, correspondent. That is a good one. So we’re going to talk about that. (1m 46s) Al: I suspect Cody has played more than me. We shall see. (1m 54s) Al: We’ve got a bunch of news to talk about. (1m 56s) Al: Thankfully Cody picked up some notes for the news that I had missed, (2m) Al: because apparently I wasn’t reading properly. (2m 3s) Al: So that’s good, we’ll get into all that. (2m 5s) Al: First of all, Cody, what have you been up to? (2m 8s) Codey: I have been, this month has been jam-packed full of insect stuff, whoo! (2m 13s) Codey: So at the beginning of the month there’s a class at my institution that’s like a collections class where they go out and they just camp for a weekend and collect insects the whole time and basically just like hike around and stuff and it was super fun. I got invited even though I’m not in the class anymore. I was in the class in 2020 and it was the plague and so the trip got canceled (2m 38s) Codey: so I was trying to like get, I had asked if I could go and initially had been told no because there’s a ton of students this year but then a bunch of the students bailed and so the professor was like it would be great to have someone that knows what the heck they’re doing. So I went on that and that was a lot of fun and then I actually went on another version of that for the entire (3m 1s) Codey: eastern branch of the Etymological Society of America. So we went out to Delaware and I wanted (3m 8s) Codey: to see horseshoe crabs and a velvet ant and I got to see both of those things. Other than that just doing my research we have next week we have I have an event an insect themed event and I’m also going to the state capitol to talk to legislators about insects conservation. So (3m 35s) Codey: not playing much. I have been playing. (3m 38s) Codey: I have been playing Usagi Shima, and a little bit of Pokemon Go. (3m 42s) Codey: I guess I haven’t. Have I been on since Go Fest? Because I went to Go Fest. (3m 46s) Codey: Yeah, so I went to Go Fest in New York City. That was a ton of fun. (3m 46s) Al: I don’t think so, no. (3m 50s) Codey: Oh, I am. For those who are sitting there wondering, where is my Tetris game? (3m 58s) Codey: Don’t worry. She’s still here. I’ll restart the number of episodes since Tetris game has been (4m 8s) Codey: back down to zero. I am at the Tetris game. I am at 346,000 points. (4m 9s) Al: The Tetris scam. (4m 15s) Codey: So I’m a third of the way through a million points to go on my cruise. (4m 20s) Codey: Oh, yeah, the points don’t reset. And then they have cruises. They have cruise dates that roll over. So when I get closer, when I have enough points, that’s when I’ll look and see. (4m 20s) Al: Awesome. And when’s the deadline for this one? (4m 22s) Al: Oh wait, you said the points. You said the points don’t reset. (4m 36s) Codey: and I’ll see you. (4m 38s) Codey: What cruise I want to go on or whatever and see if my partner wants to go with me and if not, I’ll find someone else. (4m 44s) Codey: So yeah, what about you? What are you going to do? (4m 45s) Al: Cool. Just to… you’d asked about when you were last… you were last on like… (4m 46s) Codey: Oh, you found all that yeah. (4m 55s) Al: Yeah, so it was like literally the episode came out just after New York, but we recorded a couple of days before, I think, didn’t we? So yeah, so you have not talked about that. Yeah, it was literally like you were like, “Oh, I need to do it on like the Wednesday or something, because I’m… (4m 56s) Codey: Yeah, so I haven’t talked about Go Fest then. (5m 8s) Codey: I recorded and then I left so Because I am taking a bus, yeah. (5m 15s) Al: I’m traveling.” And I’m like, “Fair enough. Fair enough.” It’s not like the news was going to get any more out of date, because it was the first one in five weeks that we’d recorded new. So that was not a problem. Anyway, yeah, what have I been up to? Mostly Pokémon. So I’ve been playing through the Pokémon DLC. So I do. I like it, yeah. But I liked the base game anyway. So it doesn’t fix any (5m 42s) Al: of the problems of the base game really but… (5m 45s) Al: I like the story, I like the characters, well, I hate the characters but I like the story, (5m 51s) Al: I like what they did with the characters, kind of. I have some issues anyway, (5m 57s) Al: we don’t need to get into the details of that. I like the new Pokémon and I like their just being a new… I like the new areas I feel personally quite nicely designed, I quite like it. (6m 11s) Al: And I’ve just been enjoying walking around catching Pokémon, so I have to… (6m 15s) Al: Done the DLC on one of my games, and I’ve just started it on my other game. (6m 19s) Al: So yeah, going well, enjoying it. (6m 20s) Codey: Yeah, I still have not finished. (6m 20s) Al: It’s literally the research part of the game though, like that is the bit that is you. (6m 23s) Codey: I still haven’t even gotten to areas here, so. (6m 27s) Codey: Yep. (6m 32s) Codey: It is. (6m 35s) Codey: So it’s the part I think where I’m stuck is I’m fighting Arvin and he keeps kicking my butt. (6m 42s) Codey: Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no, I beat him. (6m 43s) Al: Ah… (6m 44s) Al: Delete 4. (6m 45s) Codey: And now I have to beat the four. (6m 47s) Codey: That’s where I’m at. (6m 50s) Codey: Yeah, and I hate that’s my least favorite part of all Pokemon games. (6m 50s) Al: Okay. (6m 51s) Al: I will say, I think I found Arvin more difficult as a battle. (6m 52s) Codey: Yeah, he was he I was face face bashing against him for a while because he was pretty difficult. (7m 2s) Codey: But now I’m at the Elite Four, but I just didn’t have the energy for it anymore. (7m 8s) Codey: And I have other stuff to do. (7m 11s) Codey: Yeah, like a PhD. (7m 12s) Al: Well, what stuff to do? What? (7m 14s) Al: Crazy idea. So yeah, mostly, I think just mostly Pokémon. I’ve played a couple of other things as well, but mostly I’m just kind of trying to get through Pokémon as much as possible before whatever the next game I’m meant to be playing is comes out. What am I meant to be playing there? (7m 18s) Codey: and be in. (7m 35s) Codey: Probably Manneco’s night market or something because that’s yeah, not very far from here. Oh You’re so excited are you excited? (7m 37s) Al: Yes, Maneko comes out on Wednesday. Yep. No, Tuesday. Tuesday. (7m 42s) Al: Not Wednesday. Oh, my word. Right. OK. I have, I think, I think I’ve given myself four days to play that game before we do the episode on it. (7m 54s) Codey: Four days off, oh, okay, no. (7m 54s) Al: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. So we’ll see. I mean, like Tuesday hits and I start playing that game immediately. (7m 56s) Codey: Not days off, you don’t have days off. (8m 5s) Codey: Have you ever done that? Have you ever taken like one of games coming out like taking time off to focus on playing a game? (8m 10s) Al: So I… (8m 12s) Al: I haven’t, and the reason that I haven’t is because when you have kids, you take a day off and then you don’t spend it helping with the kids. (8m 23s) Codey: - Do it. - Yep. (8m 24s) Al: Like, it doesn’t really make much sense. (8m 27s) Al: So I haven’t. (8m 28s) Al: I like the idea of it, and I’m sure that I would do that at some point when the kids don’t need to be just looked after. (8m 37s) Al: And there isn’t always more cleaning to be doing or whatever. (8m 42s) Al: I mean, I’ve taken a day where I’m technically working and I maybe spend an hour working at the beginning of the day and then don’t for the rest of the day and just play the game. (8m 53s) Codey: Yep. (8m 54s) Al: But, of course not. If my employer’s listening, I’ve never done that. (8m 54s) Codey: Nope. (8m 58s) Al: Don’t know what you’re talking about. (9m) Al: Of course, of course, of course. (9m) Codey: Not your current employer. (9m 3s) Codey: That was with a previous employer. (9m 5s) Codey: It was different. (9m 5s) Codey: You’ve learned. (9m 6s) Al: Now, I would never do it with my current employer or any future employers. (9m 9s) Codey: No, you’ve learned. (9m 10s) Al: employers. (9m 10s) Codey: And I was going to say, I don’t do that as a PhD student, (9m 12s) Al: Yeah, I was gonna say you don’t play games on your day off, never mind days on. (9m 14s) Codey: but I genuinely don’t do that. (9m 16s) Codey: As a PhD, I can’t even be coy about it. (9m 18s) Codey: I just don’t do that. (9m 20s) Codey: Let’s be honest. (9m 21s) Codey: I have a day off right now I’m sleeping. (9m 23s) Codey: Yeah, I just sleep, I sleep, I take my dog to the dog park, I try and get caught up on cleaning. (9m 27s) Al: Like… (9m 34s) Codey: But no, I used to take like at least three days off whenever a World of Warcraft expansion came out. (9m 43s) Codey: And I would buy like a bunch of like microwave dinners so that I, it was like the minimum amount amount of time I had to spend away from the game. (9m 53s) Codey: I had a lot of fun with it. (9m 55s) Al: Nice. (9m 55s) Codey: I wish I could be that intense. (9m 56s) Al: Yeah, I suspect, like, I don’t think that being a streamer is an easy job at all. (9m 57s) Codey: Someone wants to pay me to play for the Warcraft. (10m 1s) Codey: It must be at least 40 grand. (10m 10s) Codey: Nope, nope. (10m 11s) Al: But part of me thinks it would be fun to do. (10m 16s) Al: Because even though it would be a lot of work, the then it’s like, oh, well, then I’m finished my work. (10m 25s) Al: I’m going to go and not play games. (10m 26s) Codey: Yep. (10m 26s) Al: It’s like you get to play all your games and then also have your time off. (10m 32s) Al: So that would be that would be fun. (10m 34s) Al: But I know that’s that’s not probably. (10m 38s) Codey: Probably not. (10m 40s) Codey: So yeah, uh, speaking of working, there’s… (10m 43s) Al: What? What? (10m 45s) Codey: We need to work on the news! (10m 46s) Al: Oh, that was painful. Please get better at that. (10m 52s) Al: The first piece of news is Laudelnot. So, Laudelnot, after I think quite a bit of silence, (11m) Al: they’ve not really said much since we first talked about them, but they are releasing on the 16th of November, because we don’t have enough games. (11m 10s) Codey: Didn’t we see them in like the one of the wholesome thingies? (11m 15s) Codey: And then yeah, we haven’t, (11m 16s) Al: Yeah. Yeah. I think, I think that was where we first saw them was the. (11m 20s) Codey: and then we haven’t really heard much after that. (11m 22s) Codey: But yeah, they do be coming out. (11m 25s) Codey: Though I was with their little axolotl. (11m 25s) Al: Yeah, with the Raxalottles. (11m 28s) Al: Ah, no, I didn’t notice that. (11m 30s) Codey: Oh my gosh, that’s why they’re called lottles. (11m 32s) Codey: Did you know that? (11m 37s) Codey: I didn’t either. (11m 37s) Codey: I literally just put that together. (11m 38s) Al: Wow, yeah, Lottle, cute. (11m 40s) Codey: Axolotl, solotl knot. (11m 42s) Codey: Oh my gosh. (11m 44s) Codey: I genuinely had not put that together. (11m 45s) Al: No, I hadn’t either. (11m 48s) Al: I was just like, oh, it’s just funny, funny word, man. (11m 50s) Codey: They’re cute little axolotls. (11m 52s) Codey: No, so it’s really cute. (11m 54s) Codey: In the trailer, they say that you can, (11m 57s) Codey: so you’re building up the world, (11m 59s) Codey: but then they say something like, (12m 1s) Codey: you get to care for them, feed them, and love them. (12m 4s) Al: No… (12m 4s) Codey: And I was like, you can’t make me love something. (12m 6s) Al: It said “you get to”, it said “get to”, it doesn’t say “have to”. You don’t even have to play the game. (12m 8s) Codey: You’re gonna tell me that I have to look. (12m 10s) Codey: I love something. I’m out. (12m 12s) Codey: It’s, I think it said… (12m 14s) Codey: No, it’s funny. (12m 16s) Al: Also, good luck not loving them. Look at their little faces. (12m 19s) Codey: Um, I don’t know. (12m 21s) Codey: Yeah, they are pretty f- (12m 24s) Codey: Look at their stupid little faces! (12m 26s) Codey: And some of their eyes, like, blink. (12m 28s) Codey: Uh, like flicker, light. (12m 30s) Codey: It’s like a little light. So cute. (12m 32s) Codey: So cute! (12m 33s) Codey: Yeah, so that’s coming out. (12m 34s) Al: It is coming out on Windows and Mac on Steam. I don’t think it’s coming on any console. (12m 35s) Codey: Uh, what is coming out on? (12m 40s) Codey: Very nice. (12m 49s) Al: I say I do have it listed as coming out on Switch, but. (12m 53s) Al: But I can’t see any mention of that anymore, so it may or may not be coming out on Switch. (12m 58s) Codey: doo doo doo (13m 3s) Al: I’m not sure we’ll find out in November. (13m 8s) Al: Next, we have Ooblets. (13m 10s) Al: So Ooblets is finally coming out on Steam. (13m 14s) Codey: Mm-hmm. (13m 15s) Al: So it’s releasing on Steam on the 5th of November. (13m 15s) Codey: Oh, did they say– (13m 20s) Codey: sorry, I’m interrupting. (13m 20s) Al: You know, you gotta go for an A. (13m 21s) Codey: 5th of November, woo. (13m 25s) Codey: I was just going to say, is it going to be on Mac? (13m 27s) Codey: Is it Mac also? (13m 31s) Al: No, however, it will work on the Steam Deck hopefully, because it does currently work on the Steam Deck when you install it from Epic, so hopefully that’ll actually work. (13m 43s) Codey: Okay. (13m 43s) Codey: Are you going to do, have you, you’ve already done an episode, right? (13m 48s) Codey: Yeah. (13m 48s) Al: We have done two episodes on it once. I did both episodes of it once. Well, stop playing the game. (13m 50s) Codey: I just didn’t know if you have been on it. (13m 52s) Codey: Okay. (13m 54s) Codey: So you need to stop. (13m 55s) Codey: That’s yeah. (14m 1s) Al: Are you trying to figure out who you’re going to get on the the second harvest of it? (14m 4s) Codey: Who could, who could do the sec? (14m 5s) Codey: Yeah. (14m 6s) Al: I’m sure we’ll, oh you need to get Johnny. That would be brilliant, yeah. (14m 6s) Codey: Who could do the second harvest with me. (14m 7s) Codey: Um, I got to get Johnny. (14m 13s) Codey: He can yell at it with me. (14m 14s) Codey: Um, yeah. (14m 16s) Codey: And so also in this update newsletter, whatever, um, they mentioned that they have a Halloween event update. (14m 24s) Codey: Um, and so everything’s going to get a spooky makeover townsfolk have costumes. (14m 29s) Codey: There’s a brand new event, limited Ooblet. (14m 32s) Codey: No idea what it is, but it has a ghost emoji. (14m 33s) Al: Ooh, do you mean, do you mean, “booblet”? (14m 36s) Codey: Ooh, boo, boo, boolet. (14m 37s) Al: No, not “boob”, no, no, no, “booblet”, that’s not a good one. (14m 43s) Codey: boolet, I don’t know. (14m 45s) Codey: We’ll see what it’s called. (14m 46s) Codey: So there’s a Halloween event. (14m 47s) Codey: Uh, it will run from October 1st through mid November, whatever that means. (14m 50s) Codey: Um, but it may get extended depending on how festive everyone is feeling is literally quotes what they said in the newsletter. (14m 55s) Al: S… (14m 58s) Codey: Um, and then they also show that, uh, there is another major content update version 1.4, um, that will bring little vehicles for your Ooblets to drive. (15m 8s) Al: What yeah, we saw a quick a quick animation we saw a couple months ago. It’s ridiculous (15m 8s) Codey: I believe that we’ve seen this before. (15m 10s) Codey: Like it looked like little monster trucks. (15m 13s) Codey: Yeah. (15m 14s) Codey: So they will be called Oobmobiles. (15m 16s) Codey: Uh, and they said that, uh, they’re not, not sure when, like not no exact date, (15m 22s) Codey: but quote, definitely before the end of the year. (15m 25s) Codey: Yeah. (15m 28s) Codey: Yeah. (15m 30s) Al: Ooh, that’s quite confident considering it’s already September. (15m 32s) Codey: Almost. (15m 33s) Codey: It’s almost over this month flew by it’s gone. (15m 34s) Al: Well, that’s a good point, yeah. Like, where did it go? It’s gone by. (15m 39s) Codey: flew by. It’s gone. (15m 44s) Al: Iconii Island have said they are still planning to exit their early access this year. (15m 55s) Al: they’ve updated their roadmap to confirm the one thing that they’ve done. (16m) Al: I always feel a little bit wary when someone says that something’s coming out in the next three months and they don’t give you a date, but we will see what happens. (16m 10s) Al: Spells and Secrets have updated their demo and their demo is now content complete. So if you have access to the game on Steam, you can play the whole game. So it’s just getting ready. (16m 30s) Al: If you do play this, your save game will not transfer over to the full version of the game. (16m 41s) Codey: Yep, it’s out, you can play it, well the demo’s out, you can play the demo and give them feedback but no save. (16m 50s) Codey: No save to the next, to 1.0, so you will lose all, whatever. (16m 57s) Al: And I don’t think the demo that you can download for free is the full content demo. (17m 4s) Al: I think you have to have had like the early access key that some people did. (17m 7s) Codey: That - was it the alpha people? (17m 10s) Al: Yeah, I think it was the Alpha people. (17m 18s) Al: Well, it would have been me, but apparently I selected the Switch version, not the Steam version. (17m 23s) Al: So I need to contact them and get that changed, because who knows when the Switch one will happen. (17m 30s) Al: Although, interestingly, I paid more money to get the Switch version. (17m 33s) Al: I mean, I don’t know how much time I’ve got. (17m 34s) Codey: You are not able to touch it and other people are touching it. (17m 38s) Codey: It’s like you’re sitting around doing nothing really. (17m 44s) Codey: I mean, you have no other things that you’re doing in your life. (17m 47s) Al: certainly not this year. Look, I mean, I have the rest of the year mapped out in what games I’m playing. The only thing I haven’t got mapped out is the last three weeks of the year, which I’m fully expecting to be taken up by the next Pokémon DLC. So there ain’t no more time this year! (18m 5s) Codey: You’ve heard it here folks. Don’t release any more games. We don’t have time Remember five years ago when we were like could you even have a farming game podcast? Well, they’re even what are you gonna talk about each week? (18m 11s) Al: Please no more games. No more games! (18m 22s) Codey: Correct other people yeah (18m 23s) Al: For what it’s worth, I never said that. (18m 25s) Al: Other people said that to me. (18m 27s) Al: And I was like, it’ll be fine, and oh look, it was fine. (18m 30s) Codey: Well, and I’ll tell people I’ll tell people I’m on a farming game podcast or cottage cork (18m 35s) Codey: and they’re like, wow, like, is that really that? I’m like, yes. (18m 37s) Codey: There, I could skip one episode and miss like, you guys could then talk about a new game. (18m 46s) Codey: Um, and I’d be like, I’ve never heard of this before. (18m 46s) Al: Like, where have you been, where have you been, we’ve been talking about this game for ages, what are you talking about? (18m 50s) Codey: And I’m like, I haven’t listened. (18m 54s) Codey: Speaking of a game that I didn’t know existed, but I’m really interested in, uh, out and about. (19m 3s) Al: which thankfully appears they’ve kind of changed the name. I’m a bit confused because the logo still says ‘wholesome out and about’, which is what it was originally called. Yeah, it’s this one, (19m 11s) Codey: Oh, it was that one. (19m 14s) Al: but now it just seems to be called ‘out and about’ except the logo still says ‘wholesome out and about’. (19m 18s) Al: So I’m a little bit confused as to what the name of the game is, but I’m just going to assume it’s just ‘out and about’ and I’m not going to say ‘wholesome’ anymore because ‘wholesome out and about’ is a stupid name. (19m 28s) Codey: Yes, that’s a little difficult, but out-and-about looks awesome I watched the little trailer that they have for it It’s basically a game where you’re foraging and then you can use the things you forage to cook but they are so when you look at a plant it say you have dandelion in front of you and then you have these like flash cards that you go through and you’re like, okay, like What how do I know what this plant is? (19m 53s) Codey: And then if you flip the dandelion flash card over it tells you exactly how you can, you know, it’s a dandelion. (20m 1s) Codey: So it has a hollow stem. (20m 3s) Codey: It’s got like a certain leaf structure. (20m 5s) Codey: It’s got the certain number of pedals. (20m 6s) Codey: Like it literally teaches you real life foraging things. (20m 11s) Codey: Like these are things that happen in real life and that you have to do in real life. (20m 15s) Codey: And the one thing that I super loved about this steam, uh, news, whatever that they put out, uh, is that they show you at least four or five different (20m 28s) Codey: who are foragers that worked to help them develop the game. (20m 32s) Codey: And they made these people NPCs in the game, which is just so cool. (20m 35s) Al: Yeah. Which is cool. Yeah. (20m 38s) Codey: Like, well, I was gonna, I was literally about to say, no one really does this. (20m 39s) Al: “Epico started a trend.” (20m 42s) Al: I mean, well, no, no. Just because it has happened once before doesn’t mean that the phrase “no one really does this” isn’t accurate. (20m 46s) Codey: And then I was like, wait, like, I don’t think I could say that. (20m 55s) Al: You didn’t say “nobody has done this”. It is true. No one really does this. Yes, “Epico did it with you”, but that’s it. (20m 57s) Codey: Yeah, yeah, yeah and still still also did a lot of good help with the butterflies part of it There was another there was another human. Um, but yeah, no Correct. I mean and that’s the thing is like if games can use the knowledge of other humans and then point to those other humans That is so cool to just say like we didn’t pull this out of our butts like here are the people that (21m 5s) Al: Right, okay, fair enough. But still, still, it’s not another game. (21m 21s) Al: Yeah. Yeah. (21m 23s) Al: It’s citing your sources. (21m 27s) Codey: Do the thing. Yeah, it’s literally Literally show the receipts. Where did you get the information? (21m 28s) Al: This is amazing. If the default in games ends up being like, “Your sources are NPCs in your game,” that would be great. (21m 44s) Codey: I would love that. (21m 45s) Codey: Um, I do love that and I would love that. (21m 48s) Codey: So yeah, they are out on Kickstarter now. (21m 51s) Codey: Uh, currently, Oh, go for it. (21m 51s) Al: Mm-hmm. They’re kick… I was just going to say I suspect what you were going to say, (21m 58s) Al: which is it’s almost hit his goal. It’s only a couple thousand off hitting its goal. (22m 2s) Al: And their estimated delivery is June 2024. Who knows whether that will be early access or not? (22m 9s) Codey: I’m here for it. (22m 13s) Al: Because you never know with Kickstarters because you’re like, “Oh, this is when the game’s coming out.” And then it ends up being early access half the time. Which is fine, just like say that’s what (22m 23s) Codey: Yeah. (22m 24s) Codey: I’m here for it. (22m 27s) Codey: I think it’s really cool if I had, (22m 29s) Codey: well, let’s see how much I can pledge. (22m 31s) Codey: I was gonna say, if I have the money, (22m 33s) Codey: I would totally do this, but I guess they only, (22m 33s) Al: They have a £3,500 tier. (22m 37s) Codey: yeah, that’s the money that I have. (22m 40s) Al: Design an NPC. (22m 41s) Codey: There’s a $70 one where you get a little basket. (22m 47s) Codey: Oh, it’s an in-game basket. (22m 48s) Codey: No. (22m 50s) Codey: I thought it was a real basket. (22m 51s) Codey: I got excited. (22m 52s) Codey: Design and outfit. (22m 54s) Codey: Okay. (22m 55s) Codey: So very cute game. (22m 56s) Codey: Looks real cute, excited about it. (22m 58s) Codey: Back at the end. (23m 1s) Al: Ah yeah. What’s next? Ah the ranchers! They have announced that their early access is coming next year now. I think they had planned to do it this year so now it’s happening next year. (23m 14s) Codey: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Yup. Um, which is fine. We’re still looking at it. This was a game that was funded in less than 18 hours. Um, excuse me. Uh, and so it’s obviously well, well, (23m 16s) Al: It’s that time of year, the delaying time of year. (23m 35s) Codey: uh, long awaited. Most comments I’m seeing are people just saying, you know, it takes as long as it takes, please, like, do your, you know, there. (23m 44s) Codey: They’re not yet at the point where it’s like, give us your money back, or money back, cute cowards or anything like that. (23m 48s) Al: I also find that very rarely does that actually happen, even when people are late. Like, if you’re communicative and you’re transparent about these things, generally, unless you take like five years too late, then people are generally pretty understanding. It’s when you don’t communicate, that’s when people are like, “What are you doing? This is ridiculous.” (23m 55s) Codey: Yep. (24m) Codey: Re-legend! (24m 10s) Codey: Yeah. (24m 10s) Codey: Your bidet? (24m 11s) Al: Like my bidet. Oh, have you not listened to last week’s episode? Oh, this week’s episode in fact. (24m 16s) Codey: No. (24m 18s) Codey: It’s literally– that’s what I was– (24m 21s) Codey: I was finishing one thing that I was doing. (24m 25s) Codey: And then one podcast I was listening to about insect wings. (24m 28s) Codey: And then that was the next one. (24m 29s) Al: obviously. Somehow we ended up on this week’s episode talking about, or last week’s episode, (24m 30s) Codey: So yeah, because of that. (24m 33s) Codey: Because I’m all about insects right now. (24m 41s) Al: talking about the portable bidet that I kick-started, and people were very confused about it. (24m 46s) Codey: Oh, okay. (24m 48s) Al: Can I just clarify, because apparently people were confused. The point of this is to take two places that don’t have bidets, right? So like when you go on holiday, or when you’re going out to restaurants and stuff and then you. (24m 59s) Al: Have your bidet with you because not everywhere has a bidet. (25m 2s) Al: I do not have a bidet. (25m 2s) Codey: Do you have a bidet? (25m 3s) Codey: So this is like one that you could, could have at your house, but you could also put it elsewhere. (25m 11s) Codey: I think so. (25m 12s) Codey: Merka does not, is not a bidet friendly place. (25m 16s) Codey: I think there’s a lot of stigma about it. (25m 17s) Al: So, yeah, so this is also like, it’s a handheld battery powered thing, right? So you pour the water into it, you tighten it up, and it is a self-contained battery powered thing, (25m 30s) Al: right? So some people were a bit confused. You’re not plugging this into plumbing, right? (25m 34s) Al: Like it’s a handheld thing. It just looks like a large, like if you look at it physically, (25m 40s) Al: it looks like a large water bottle or something like that. No, no, that’s a bad, no, it doesn’t look like a washer bottle. (25m 47s) Al: I don’t know like a big thing a deodorant or something like that like it’s it’s kind of it’s very (25m 50s) Codey: Yeah, yeah, but then but then it’s upside down and you can. (25m 54s) Codey: Okay, I’m looking at stuff online, some options. (25m 59s) Al: Yeah, but I’m still 90% sure that the one that I backed was a scam. (26m 7s) Al: Anyway, that’s my point. (26m 7s) Codey: Yeah. That’s unfortunate. (26m 10s) Al: The thing is a scam because they don’t communicate, not because they’re late. (26m 14s) Al: Anyway, moving on from the bidet. (26m 17s) Al: I can’t believe we’re talking about bidets twice in a row on this podcast. (26m 20s) Codey: Welcome to bidet cast. (26m 26s) Codey: I don’t know. (26m 29s) Al: I’m trying so hard to think up some puns now. (26m 31s) Al: I’m not sure you have to use something to think up puns for something. (26m 32s) Codey: I don’t use bidet as enough. (26m 33s) Codey: It listeners. (26m 35s) Codey: If you have good bidet puns, please hit us up with those. (26m 37s) Codey: I don’t know. (26m 41s) Codey: Like I, what if I don’t understand what I’m like, I think I understand about a potato, so I don’t… (26m 46s) Al: I think you know what I think you understand. (26m 50s) Codey: But we are here to talk about, gosh, what did I call it? (26m 55s) Codey: When I emailed the developer, (26m 58s) Codey: I don’t remember what I called it, the game we’re playing. (27m 2s) Al: Usagi Shima? What are you talking about? (27m 3s) Codey: I emailed them and I said, (27m 5s) Al: Aha. (27m 8s) Codey: “Thank you for making adorable bunny collection game.” (27m 13s) Codey: So I was having a notification every time I opened the game and they helped me fix it, so. (27m 21s) Al: Well, I mean, it’s so on the app store, it is now called Isagishima cute id. (27m 27s) Codey: Yeah, no, I just like the Sagashima. (27m 29s) Codey: Um, so this is a game, uh, Al wrote down cats. (27m 35s) Codey: Don’t know why he wrote down cats. (27m 36s) Codey: I just left it there cause I was like, I don’t know if you wanted to talk about cats. (27m 37s) Al: I don’t know why did I do that? It’s not cats, it’s bunnies! (27m 41s) Al: I don’t know, they’re all just animals. Bunnies, they are no evidence. (27m 47s) Codey: They’re all buddies, but, uh, from their website, uh, quote, you’ve (27m 57s) Codey: been tasked as caretaker of an abandoned island as you decorate and rebuild it over time, curious, but adorable visitors start to appear. (28m 4s) Codey: Usagi Shima is a casual, relaxing bunny collecting game developed by Godot engine and drawn in Krita. (28m 10s) Codey: Uh, it is heavily inspired by cute soothing games like Neko Atsume and Animal Crossing. (28m 16s) Codey: The game’s namesake and setting draws inspiration from, uh, Okunoshima, a real island in Japan that has a lot of bunny inhabitants. (28m 25s) Al: Interestingly, I was actually looking up Godot, the engine, because of the whole nonsense around Unity, because it’s a game engine like Unity or Unreal. I was just like, “Oh, I wonder if this is finally where Godot will become popular, and wouldn’t it be funny if capitalists becoming more greedy, pushes people to an open source game engine. (28m 36s) Codey: Right. (28m 55s) Al: That would be great. And then I went to look, say, have they got any decent games using it yet? (29m 1s) Al: And one of them was a Sagishima right on the main website for Godot, which is funny. (29m 9s) Al: There were a few others as well. Oh, yes, a cassette beast is in Godot. And a most extraordinary gnome is in Godot. Cruelty Squad is in Godot. And there’s lots of others, but those are just the the ones that kind of people might know. (29m 25s) Al: I just thought it was funny. It’s actually the first one they’ve got listed on their showcase is Usagi Shima. That’s good. (29m 30s) Codey: That’s so funny It’s I mean it it is a cute game Okay, so I guess that was oh I just also want to just say so the name Usagi Shima I guess it’s coming from Okunoshima is a rabbit island Which I googled Okunoshima, and it’s just an island that has a metric hectone of bunnies And you can like play with the bunnies and stuff and super cute (29m 36s) Al: Yep. (30m) Codey: It’s a island in Japan Yeah, if you just look up Okunoshima, it’s adorable and Usagi is Japanese for rabbit, so this is rabbit and then kind of playing towards (30m 27s) Codey: island yeah so usagi shima is just rabbit island (30m 31s) Al: I just, I couldn’t not think about the Friends episode with Unagi when you said Usagi. Unagi. (30m 37s) Codey: I don’t know if I’ve ever watched that one I’ve watched it a lot of friends but (30m 41s) Al: Oh, it’s a ridiculous episode where Ross decides that he suddenly knows this martial art called Unagi. But Unagi just means fish. So he’s like… (30m 53s) Codey: Yeah? (30m 53s) Codey: Yeah. (30m 58s) Codey: That is goober. (31m 1s) Al: Oh, it’s fantastic. (31m 5s) Codey: So I guess like first, before we like really, really jump into this game, what are your thoughts? (31m 9s) Codey: Oh, like base– (31m 11s) Codey: when you first opened the game, how’d you feel? (31m 12s) Al: So I felt a little bit, ironically, a little bit overwhelmed when I first opened it, and let me explain why. So this does a thing that I think probably appeals to a lot of people, but really stresses me out, which is where you’ve got “here’s big empty space” and “here’s tutorial that tells you how to do some stuff” and now “good luck” and you’re like “oh my word” like I don’t… (31m 32s) Codey: Mm-hmm. (31m 42s) Al: It feels like a lot to me, and part of my problem is that I like games that tell you “here’s some things to do” and it’s like, it does give you some of that. So it’s got like a daily task list and it obviously has achievements and stuff like that, but like yeah I just felt a little bit directional-less, if that makes sense. But I think a lot of people probably… (32m 7s) Codey: Yeah. (32m 12s) Al: appreciate that, right? Like there’s no kind of like forcing you to do anything, (32m 17s) Al: there’s just decorating and bunnies, and lots of people like that. So what about you? What did you (32m 22s) Codey: Yep. Yeah, I will. (32m 29s) Codey: First thing I opened this game, I was like, this is adorable. (32m 34s) Codey: It is so cute and like the artwork is so. (32m 40s) Codey: Calming and like the way that everything is is animated and the color scheme that they use, like it’s all there’s nothing abrasive (32m 53s) Codey: going around your island and looking at everything like it’s all really calm colors. (32m 57s) Codey: And there’s no like I kind of like that. (33m 1s) Codey: There’s no direction slash no. (33m 4s) Codey: Nothing like there’s no consequences, I guess, is another thing. (33m 10s) Codey: Because you can always just do stuff tomorrow. (33m 13s) Codey: There’s not really anything like if you miss something that you’re going to miss out on, there’s no FOMO with this game, (33m 19s) Codey: Which is great for me because if I do something like… (33m 22s) Codey: Go play or go try and find bugs for an entire weekend and not touch the game at all I don’t have a problem whereas like I didn’t get to play Tetris that whole weekend and I was like Oh, I missed out on like all of those points So yeah, I really enjoyed it I really like the artwork the music is good too, but I am a chronic turn music offer I don’t really listen to audio in any game (33m 34s) Al: Yeah. Yeah, yeah. (33m 50s) Codey: because it distracts me. (33m 52s) Codey: So I have all the audio off. (33m 52s) Al: » Yeah. Same. (33m 54s) Codey: I will say within a day, (33m 56s) Codey: within probably like a couple hours of trying the game and then I pick it back up and try it again. (34m 2s) Codey: I don’t even think I had gotten an advertisement yet, (34m 5s) Codey: but I went in and paid money to turn off ads and support the developer, like pretty quickly. (34m 12s) Al: Yeah, it’s definitely pretty cheap and pretty worth. (34m 12s) Codey: Well, it’s free, but then you can spend that money to just, (34m 16s) Al: That’s what I mean, sorry. (34m 18s) Codey: to just, yeah, yeah. (34m 19s) Al: Sorry, that’s what I mean. (34m 20s) Al: It’s pretty cheap to get rid of the ads and stuff, which is pretty good. (34m 26s) Al: That, you know, I always feel like when I download a free game and they’ve got like, oh, hey, pay like three quid to do this. (34m 34s) Codey: Yeah. Yeah, exactly. (34m 35s) Al: I’m like, well, yes, yes, I will, you know, (34m 38s) Codey: Mm hmm. Mm hmm. (34m 39s) Al: because like how much time am I gonna save? (34m 42s) Al: Clicking that and they immediately get more money than they will ever get from me in ads, so it’s a win-win, you know? (34m 48s) Codey: Yep. Well, and I was just like, you know, I think this game is super cute. (34m 53s) Codey: I can throw down like the minimum that they have is three ninety nine. (34m 56s) Codey: But you can do more. (34m 59s) Codey: So I think I ended up doing like seven dollars because I had I had. (35m 2s) Codey: I looked at my bank I was like I could. (35m 4s) Codey: Do I can do $7 like I can just double double what they suggest and just continue to enjoy playing this game. The only other thing that you can buy is the currencies which I don’t know about you I get I get enough I don’t need to buy any. So that is really nice like a lot of mobile games will just try and throw things in your face to try and get you to spend money. But this one did not do that and I really I don’t. (35m 34s) Codey: I feel pressured to spend money. (35m 36s) Codey: Um, you do also, if you pay for the ad removal, you get a double reward bonus. (35m 41s) Codey: So all rewards are double are automatically doubled. (35m 44s) Codey: Um, which I didn’t, I was like, Oh, that’s a bonus because I wasn’t even, I just didn’t. (35m 49s) Al: You weren’t even noticing that, yeah. (35m 50s) Codey: I just didn’t want to add, like, that was the one thing. (35m 54s) Codey: Cause I’ve, my Tetris game has so many. (35m 56s) Codey: Um, yeah. (35m 59s) Codey: So artwork, what do you, what do you think of the artwork specifically? (36m 3s) Al: Oh yeah, definitely. I could easily grab some screenshots of this and stick it as my wallpaper. (36m 12s) Al: It’s really nice. It’s the sort of thing that I should see whether… It’s just really pleasing to have it just on something. I’m really tempted to see… (36m 31s) Al: and just have it sitting there, looking nice and bunnies waddling around. (36m 38s) Al: But, yeah, no, it looks really good. (36m 40s) Al: I was the same with the sound. (36m 41s) Al: Like, it sounds nice, but, yeah, I don’t have game sound, right? (36m 46s) Codey: Yep. (36m 46s) Al: Like, I listen to podcasts too much to be able to deal with that. (36m 47s) Codey: Yep. (36m 51s) Al: So that’s, yeah, that’s not my thing. (36m 55s) Al: But it is very nice. (36m 56s) Al: you like, if you like, what’s the word I’m looking for? (37m) Codey: If you want the audio on, it’s not bad audio, it’s not glaring, it’s not obnoxious, so. (37m 1s) Al: If you like, then it’s good. (37m 3s) Al: Yep. (37m 7s) Codey: The next thing that we can talk about is obviously the buns, the bubbies, the bunny bunnies. (37m 10s) Al: Bunny bunnies. (37m 16s) Codey: There are 30 unique bunnies and they each have their own personality. (37m 20s) Codey: I mean, some of them might have like overlapping personalities. (37m 23s) Codey: Like if I look in my thing right now, Tomo has a polite personality and Button has a shy personality. (37m 30s) Codey: And Yuki has warm, so like, I guess they all do have, oh no, there’s another shy. (37m 36s) Codey: Peaches is another shy bunny. (37m 38s) Codey: Um, so they all have their own personality, they all have their own favorite toys that they enjoy playing with that you can populate your island with. (37m 47s) Codey: And then if you befriend them to a certain level, they’ll also give you a keepsake. (37m 51s) Codey: Um, which is really cute, and then you can put that in the island and then they can interact with it or other bunnies can interact with it. (37m 58s) Codey: Um… (38m) Codey: And then if you befriend them high enough, then you can invite them to be a permanent resident on your island. (38m 4s) Codey: Um… Al, have you… How many of the buns have you encountered? (38m 9s) Codey: You’ve only seen two bunnies? Okay, okay, okay. (38m 10s) Al: Uh, not very many, uh, like two. (38m 14s) Al: Look, look, look, right. (38m 18s) Codey: Yep. Yep. Yep. (38m 18s) Al: See, this is where, see you end at the beginning. (38m 19s) Al: See you at the beginning. (38m 20s) Al: When I said you’ll almost certainly have played more of this game than me. (38m 22s) Codey: Yep. Yep. (38m 24s) Al: I was not joking. (38m 25s) Al: See, see, there we go. (38m 26s) Codey: I have encountered 24 of the bunnies. (38m 28s) Codey: bunnies. (38m 29s) Al: Very different, very, very different. (38m 31s) Al: Um, so, I mean, so like it’s not because this game is bad, right? (38m 37s) Al: Like I think if people remember the garden gallery– (38m 40s) Al: say episode that we did, me and Kevin. It’s very similar to that, in that it’s a really nice game for laying things out and designing a garden and putting all these things out, but I just don’t get it. It doesn’t do anything for me and therefore I find it really hard to push through and actually do something about that. (39m 4s) Codey: Yeah, yeah, that’s that’s fair. So I’ve definitely played more than you know, so the bunnies they also visit like visually look different like some of them don’t look that much different like there’s a decent amount of them that are black and white with black ears and a black snoot maybe some black Pete’s and then maybe some spots everywhere but there’s like maybe like five or six that have that but there are some that have like floppy ears. (39m 34s) Codey: There are some that have really short ears. There’s a really fluffy one that I have named. Oh my gosh, I accidentally closed it out. Mofu. He has glasses as well. Very cute. Moose has antlers. Yuzu and Yuki both have looks like leaves took me second to remember what the word leaf was. (39m 55s) Al: It’s all right, it’s not like you have anything to do with nature. (40m 1s) Codey: No, not at all. Not that I have to know that at all. (40m 4s) Codey: Not that I was just literally picking leaves out of something. (40m 7s) Codey: My favorite is… my couple of favorites are Tiger. (40m 14s) Codey: He’s like a red and he or they… I don’t think they have genders. (40m 19s) Codey: They are a black and orange. Very cute. (40m 25s) Codey: And then I like Celeste just because she has a celestial name. (40m 29s) Codey: She’s also a mostly black bun with bright blue eyes. (40m 34s) Codey: And then I can’t pick another one. I love them all. (40m 37s) Codey: Honestly, those are just the two that stand out. (40m 40s) Codey: I do like Yuzu. Yuzu’s orange. (40m 42s) Codey: Um… (40m 44s) Al: They do definitely have very good designs, like I’ve looked a lot of it up online, even though I haven’t had the patience to play through the game. So yeah, they are all really good designs, (40m 55s) Al: and I feel like they’re different enough, but also not like “this is clearly a dog”. You know, (41m 5s) Codey: Yep. (41m 5s) Al: like they’re all clearly bunnies, but different enough that you feel like there’s a worthwhile thing to try and collect. (41m 14s) Al: And I liked them all, if you will. I mean, you’re not, like, capturing them. They just visit you. (41m 18s) Codey: No, they just, they just come, it’s like animal crossing, they come to your island. (41m 22s) Codey: And then you can ask some of them to always be on your island versus just visit. (41m 27s) Codey: Like right now I probably have 15 bunnies on my island because I have like many things for them to be doing. (41m 36s) Codey: So they’re all spread out over my island right now. (41m 41s) Codey: So yeah, that’s the buns. (41m 45s) Codey: And then you build up their friendship by doing the tasks. (41m 48s) Codey: So either by filling your island with toys and decorations, which we’ll talk about later, (41m 54s) Codey: or they might ask you to do something with them. (41m 58s) Codey: So the five main ones are either to pet them, to brush them, to take a photo of them, (42m 5s) Codey: to play hide and seek with them, or to feed them. (42m 8s) Codey: And each of these things, like right now I can see two of my bunnies have little photo, little cameras above their heads. (42m 18s) Codey: And one of them is watering the garden right now, so I’m going to take her picture real quick. (42m 26s) Al: Oh dear. (42m 28s) Codey: I have such a problem. (42m 29s) Al: They’re just watering, let them water in peace. (42m 32s) Codey: Oh, and the other one’s like napping by the gordon. (42m 36s) Codey: Oh, I’m so cute. (42m 38s) Codey: And so every time you fulfill one of those tasks, you get hearts from you. (42m 48s) Codey: And you get some currency, and it just kind of – that’s literally it, is that you get to know them more. (42m 58s) Codey: The little mini games that you have with it is really cute. (43m 1s) Codey: So like brushing, for example, it zooms in on the animal, on the bunny. (43m 5s) Codey: You grab the brush, and then you just go back and forth over the bunny. (43m 10s) Codey: You scrub a dub dub. (43m 12s) Codey: And then the other one is the same feeding, they come out into this little extra – (43m 18s) Codey: another screen, and you just see that one bunny, and you pour food into a bowl, and it eats. (43m 26s) Codey: Taking pictures, literally just taking a picture of them. (43m 29s) Codey: I did run out of camera space, like you only have – you can only save like so many photos. (43m 36s) Codey: And I am devastated because – oh, you can move it to their album. (43m 42s) Codey: Oh my god, oh my gosh, is that now in Tiger’s album? (43m 48s) Codey: Okay. (43m 51s) Codey: So if you take a photo – you have a photo album, but then you can go – so I can like say, (43m 56s) Codey: like, oh, I want to move this photo of Lulu next to a sandwich to Lulu’s album. (44m 2s) Codey: And then it gets – and then I have more space. (44m 5s) Codey: But the picture – I have to go to like Lulu’s bunny page in the bun book. (44m 12s) Codey: It’s like Facebook bun book. (44m 14s) Codey: Go into the bun book. (44m 16s) Codey: Oh my gosh, I’m gonna– (44m 17s) Al: One book could be so many times. (44m 19s) Codey: It could. (44m 21s) Codey: Well, I’m gonna do this forever now because I was like why do I always run out of space like so many buns? (44m 31s) Codey: So yeah, those are the different tasks. Which– do you have a favorite or anything? Do you like the tasks? Do you find them? (44m 38s) Al: task. I mean, the hide and seek is kind of cute, because they just suddenly go and hide somewhere and you have to find them. I’m not sure I find any of them particularly fun, (44m 56s) Al: but they’re fine. I mean, in terms of like, you know, it’s just a bit more cute sort of thing, you know. So maybe that one, yeah. I just got two more bunnies. (45m 7s) Codey: Which two, which two? (45m 8s) Al: I’ll tell you once I’ve finished watching this ad to double the reward that I was getting for something. Yep, yep, I do. I just haven’t done it yet, because I haven’t, because, well, (45m 15s) Codey: Oh, yeah, see you just got a– (45m 22s) Al: this is on my iPad, right, which is different from my phone one. Let’s see what we got. (45m 24s) Codey: You’re right, you’re right, you’re right. (45m 29s) Al: What are these two? Bun, bun, bun. Button. And that one. Lulu. (45m 32s) Codey: Mm-hmm, very cute. (45m 39s) Al: They both went onto the same thing, so it’s like a little stump thing that one can go inside and one on top of, and they both came at the same time onto that one. It was to start with, and then after, how do you do it? (45m 47s) Codey: And the one inside is, uh, it’s a little butt sticking out, right. (45m 51s) Codey: Or is, but that’s the one cool thing is like, they, I guess we can talk about the decorations and toys that they play with like, like the stump that it’s not just one way that they can use the stump. (46m 7s) Codey: Like they can be in face first. (46m 9s) Codey: They can be in, but first they can be on top of the stump. (46m 14s) Codey: They can have a bunch of different… (46m 16s) Codey: Um… (46m 17s) Codey: …like positions that they’re on. (46m 19s) Codey: So even if you only have like the one decoration, it’s pretty heckin’ cute. (46m 24s) Al: Yeah. And the decorations are pretty cheap, right? Like, you can buy like three or four or five to start with, like, as soon as you start the game easily. So there’s lots of different options. And all the animations are very cute, right? Because you’ve got like the one when it’s like lying on top of the beach ball, just kind of rocking backwards (46m 49s) Codey: got, because I befriended one of them, I got a ramen noodle container and there’s a bunny sitting in the ramen noodle container and I am dying on the inside. Look at how cute you are. So yeah, there’s a bunch of different decorations. A bunch. You only get access to nine. (46m 57s) Al: Obviously. Don’t eat it. Don’t eat it. (47m 14s) Al: a bunch. Yeah. (47m 19s) Codey: Nine at a time. Yeah. Nine at a time. Um, I don’t know. Oh, it resets. Uh, (47m 24s) Codey: it says it’s going to reset at 18, 18, 1800. How do you say that? (47m 28s) Al: I think I… (47m 29s) Al: Well, I mean, you can see it’s 6 p.m. if you want. (47m 30s) Codey: Okay. (47m 36s) Codey: That’s fine. It’ll reset at 6pm. So, uh, but I already like looking at this, (47m 40s) Codey: I already have all of these things, uh, all the toys. (47m 44s) Codey: And I don’t think there’s a benefit to having more than one of the same type on (47m 49s) Al: Well, it’s just it’s more spaces for bunnies to come, right? (47m 52s) Al: Like if you’ve run out of spaces for bunnies or whatever. (47m 55s) Al: All right. (47m 55s) Codey: - Yeah, I haven’t. (47m 56s) Codey: So there’s toys. (48m 3s) Codey: And those are things that your bunny will interact with. (48m 8s) Codey: Also though, in the quote unquote toy category is like lights, things that you can use to light up your island. (48m 15s) Codey: Even though I don’t really light up that much of your island. (48m 18s) Codey: So they’re like just lights up the immediate area around the thing. (48m 19s) Al: Yeah, I mean, let’s be honest, that’s this whole game, it’s just anesthetic. (48m 22s) Codey: It just kind of like is aesthetic, I think. (48m 25s) Codey: And my brain is chaos. (48m 27s) Codey: You’re right, you’re right. (48m 29s) Codey: No, no, you’re right. (48m 30s) Codey: And then there’s decorations. (48m 33s) Codey: So these are things that you could use like trees and stones and I have mushrooms and a monstera that I can buy right now. (48m 42s) Codey: And then there are, gosh, I don’t know how to, (48m 47s) Codey: what to call these, what did I call them? (48m 49s) Codey: Buildings. (48m 50s) Al: Yeah, they’re structures, so it’s like houses or ponds. (48m 53s) Codey: So like. (48m 55s) Codey: Yeah, so I have the pond, the garden, the bridge, (48m 59s) Codey: the ramen shop, the cafe, the house, the, it’s another house. (49m 6s) Codey: The hot spring, have you seen the hot spring little bath? (49m 12s) Codey: It’s a little bath that they can

It has the five food groups of good television: love, loss, crime, drama, and cats. “To Master the Onixpected!” features Onix (obviously) and the Elite Four leader Bruno whose chest spans most of the pacific northwest. The episode features anime stew, so you know it is worth watching (preferably with your eyeballs). If you don't listen to this TKAD episode, you are committing a crime against animals. Click away! Now that the first-generation arcs of Pokémon Adventures are over, James and Will talk about the all action finale. The brilliance of getting us to root for girls in what many consider to be a shonen manga. And we even talk about the Mewtwo versus Lance fight and Pikachu and friends versus Lance! Perhaps there is a bit too many people fighting Lance in this volume but overall, we get a satisfying conclusion. Skip plot summary @ 9:55 Email: WeAppreciateManga@Gmail.com 122: Pokémon Adventures vol. 7 Chapters 79 'Airing Out Aerodactyl' and 90 'The Legend' Art by Mato English Translation by Kaori Inoue Lettering and touch up by Annaliese Christman Yellow's journey to reunite Pika the Pikachu with the Pokémon trainer Red finally comes to an end, but not before a climactic battle on a remote Island with the Elite Four. Lorelei cuts the arm of Green only to find it was a trick Ditto in disguise, her real arm, being hidden in her jacket. The Ditto confines and arrests Lorelei and her Pokémon Jynx. Sabrina is not too happy to find that was she handicapped and partnered to a secret ditto throughout the fight, but it worked non the less. One down, three to go. Agatha's haunter is tricked into attacking the severed body of an Arbok, which can still move even without its head. Blue can counter attack it, in turn Agatha flees as it was the last of her Pokémon. That is two down and two to go. And Bruce, no longer influenced by Agatha's spell accepts defeat from Red graciously. Afterwards Red seeks out Pika once Bill tells him that Pika is on the island with Yellow. Now Lance is the last one left standing. Blaine uses Mewtwo to fight Lance but having a psychic link with Mewtwo means he becomes unconscuous during the fight. Mewtwo is also unique as a pokémon since they become weaker with every passing second once out of the master ball and their culture tank. Because of this Mewtwo is not able to defeat Lance and instead retreats it's special master ball not only to protect its own life but the life of Blaine aswell. This leaves Yellow to a showdown within the heart of an active volcano, where she learns that Lance has the same powers as her. Lance also learns of Yellow too by reading Pika's mind. Both Yellow and Lance are from Viridian Forest as is their Pokémon and both have the same powers to heal and read the thoughts of Pokémon. From Learning how Mewtwo fought previously, Yellow uses Pika's surf move to lure Lance to the lava and generate a whirlpool to trap him. Once Lance is gone, she is helped by her Pokémon and exits the mouth of the volcano. But the recess from battle is short as Lance rises from the volcano with a bubble shield formed by his Gyrados. Yellow gets her hand broken by the Gyrados' bubble beam attack, which is invisible in the bright light of the sun. However Yellow retaliates by having her caterpie form a string net, her Omanyte wets the net and and her Raticate uses it to sense any bubbles that hit it. Pika charges the wet net with ellectricity, making sure to counter attack Lance and trapping him inside it. Once Yellow senses an opening she has her Doduo attack Lance. Sadly, Doduo and the rest of her Pokémon are not strong enough to defeat Lance's. It is at this point another Viridian Pokémon user arrives to assist. Giovanni, the leader of Team Rocket, but in doing so he loses his gym badge to Lance. With Lance having all badges his master plan is active and the island becomes the altar to which it will summon a legendary dragon Pokémon. One that Lance plans to capture and use to conquer the world. In Lance's eagerness he does not realise how weak and worn out from battle his Pokémon are. In the end the powers that he summons becomes a double edged sword for Lance. Yellow's Pokémon have evolved and so she makes her last stand. Topics: · The climax and battles of the Yellow arc. · Giving context as to why Yellow Caballero is revealed to be a girl later in the manga. · How too many twists can spoil the drama if they zig zag back and forth between similar scenes, often a common flaw in shonen battle manga. · Giovanni and his son. References and Trivia: · Although Lugia looks like a dragon it is in fact the highest Pokémon on the hierarchy of the Legendary bird Pokémon. It is a flying and psychic type. Lugia is also original to the second Pokémon movie (Pokémon 2000) having made their first appearance in that movie. Lugia's place in the wider franchise came as a surprise to writer and creator Takeshi Shudo, according to this ‘Did You Know Gaming' video, and Dr. Lava's blog. · Arbok's body being able to move without its head is a real-life phenomenon seen with snakes. Like chickens, snakes and most reptiles have a pre-programmed nervous system that works in response to shock. Especially a shock induced by beheading, according to an article from National Geographic snakes can recover from this, albeit with permanent brain damage. There is also this video of a decapitated snake still being able to bite. Facebook Instagram Twitter Official Website Email
Coming close to the end of the yellow arc, we finally get answers to long standing questions and see an old character return in time for the final battle. Skip plot summary @ 4:25 Email: WeAppreciateManga@Gmail.com 121: Pokémon Adventures vol. 6 Chapters 66 'Punching Poliwrath' and 78 'Victim of Venusaur' Art by Mato English Translation by Kaori Inoue Lettering and touch up by Wayne Truman Red has disappeared and it is up to his Pikachu (nicknamed Pika in the manga) with the help of Yellow Caballero to find him. In the search for Red they to team up with Pokémon experts and members of the Rocket gang, this leads them to encounter with Bruno, Lorelei, Agatha and Lance, a.k.a. the Elite Four. Sabrina of Team Rocket uses her psychic "spoons of fate" trick to decide on how to best the four. The spoons bend towards the best partner, Koga teams up with Blue, Sabrina with Green, Lt. Surge teams up with Bill and Yellow with Blaine. Blue wants to fight Agatha due to the history they share, but paralyzed by her Gengar it is Koga who defeats her in a Arbok versus Arbok fight after having a Golbat versus Golbat fight! Koga revives Blue by hiding a paralyzed heal in one of his shuriken shaped Pokéballs. Agatha has the last laugh by trapping them in a maze of fallen stalactites and having a Gengar shadow them as she lays unconscious. Lorelei fights Green and Sabrina, making magical voodoo like dolls from ice. Lorelei has the two ladies stuck together in cuffs of ice. As a tactician Lorelei knocks out Green first but Sabrina attacks her cloyster which hides the dolls. Lorelei tells Sabrina that it is useless since all Cloyster must do is shield itself and withdraw. Good thing Sabrina is not trying to steal back the dolls through force. Instead, she uses her venomoth to leech out the life of the Cloyster, much to Lorelei's surprise. Bill and Lt. Surge find themself fighting on the back of a wild Onyx; Yellow and Blaine notice them through a one-sided mirror, a strange barrier that makes it hopeless for them to help. At this moment Red appears in time to rematch with Bruno, and although Blaine, Yellow and Pikachu can see Red, the barrier prevents Red as well as Lt. Surge and Bill from Seeing them. On top of this, Electrode's self-destruct move has caused a torrent of water to seep into the cave, one that threatens to drown Blaine, Yellow and Pikachu. We also discover what Yellow is hiding under that straw hat! Topics: · The opening battle with Red and Bruno, Pikachu's trauma. · Each of the battles between shown through the volumes. · The idea of a Pokédex from 1996 in a modern age of Wikipedia and online search engines. · Religious references and censorship in regards to manga and videogames. Does Pikachu have a stand? The manga has a unique take on how and why Pikachu can surf. Did you know you could teach Pikachu to surf? Sip plot summary @ 6:40 We also talk about the inconsistent looks of Blaine the fire Pokémon gym leader. Email: WeAppreciateManga@Gmail.com 120: Pokémon Adventures vol. 5 Chapters 53 to 65, ‘Can't Catch Caterpie' and ‘Karate Machomp' Story by Hidenori Kusaka Art by Mato English Translation by Kaori Inoue Lettering and touch up by Wayne Truman With the disappearance of trainer Red it is now Yellow Caballero's job to team up with Pikachu and find him. Along the way Red's rival, Blue, teaches Yellow the ways of a Pokémon trainer before they head off on their journey. Soon Yellow has a short run in with members of a fractured team Rocket and eventually Yellow traces Red's previous steps to a hidden Tentacool nest within the ocean, a pocket of air holds the treasure of evolutionary stones and Yellow finds that three of the stones have already been taken. Meanwhile an old ally of Red and Yellow's is the young Lady, trainer Green. She breaks in to Bill's house (the man who invented the Pokémon to PC transport system, remember?) and tries to find records of Red's Pokémon use, both Bill and Green learn that Red took out an Eevee, but before they learn anymore, they become attacked by Bruno of the elite four. With the use of Green's Blastoise they learn that the fight has been a distraction from the danger that Yellow is in. Lance, the dragon pokemon expert and member of the elite four attacks Vermillion city whilst Yellow is at a surfing competition. Pikachu is almost abducted by Lance but uses the substitute move and learns how to surf, overpowering Lance which causes him to flee. After learning of Lance's manifesto of destroying humans for the benefit of Pokémon. Yellow asks Pikachu if siding with humans is something they want to do. Of course, Pikachu agrees to side with humans, because Pikachu is cool like that. The Elite Four have spread out individually to make their attack. Bruno attacks Pewter city, Agatha attacks Cerulean city and Lorelei attacks Celadon city. Lance's whereabouts are unknown but Yellow teams up with Blaine to check out Cerise Island and see if Lance is there. Blaine intentionally gets to the island before Yellow and teams up with Blue at the shore. Once they travel inside the caves the two are ambushed, not by Lance but by the triad leaders of the Rocket gang. Lt. Surge, Sabrina and Koga! Yellow has yet to arrive. Topics: · Why Yellow Caballero works as a character! · The “enemy mine” trope that James refers to pre-dates Star Trek, James talks about the third season finale of Voyager titled “Scorpion” where the crew need the help of an enemy in order to navigate Borg territory. The actual trope namer/codifier could be the 1985 Dennis Quad movie ‘Enemy Mine' adapted from a Barry Longyear novella. That story also involves a war between humans and an alien race. · A mention to Red's Poliwhirl evolving in previous chapters brings cohesion to an otherwise bizarre quest for Yellow. Poliwhirl is unique to the manga as Red's first Pokémon, where as in the anime and the Dengeki Pikachu (Electric Tale of Pikachu) manga it is Pikachu who is the first Pokémon that our hero owns. The reasoning behind this is that the lead creative designer of the '96 game, Satoshi Tajiri, considers Poliwhirl to be his favorite Pokémon. Which is unsurprising since Red is based on Satoshi Tajiri. · The surfing Pikachu is a hidden feature in a few of the games in the series. When certain criteria are met, such as acquiring HM03 for example, you can teach Pikachu surf. There is also a hidden surfing Pikachu mini-game in Pokémon Yellow Edition. Differences and Comparisons to other Media: · Lance of the Elite Four has the name "Wataru" in his native Japanese appearance. Possibly derived from the word "Watatsumi", an ocean deity of Japanese creationist myth. In German translations he is given the name Siegfried, named after the dragon slaying hero of norse myth, mostly famous due to Wagner's Nebelunglied Opera. (Which you would have heard of if you watched the movie 'Apocalypse Now'). In English translations he is named after a weapon that medieval knights used. · In this manga Blaine has it as a disguise but in the anime, he prefers to wear a short-sleeved shirt with hair on his sides sans the usual shades that cover the eyes. This is how Blaine was illustrated and looked like in the manual and early concept art. Blaine also has hair in the anime but will wear a wig and shades to disguise himself. In the '96 Gameboy game and later appearances on the trading cards he is fully bald and wears shades, like his first appearance in the manga. According to... Blaine's design is recycled from unused pixel art of what was supposed to be the president and head scientist/researcher of Silph co. The theory was that you would have a Pokémon battle with this character but it may have been scrapped since the goal was to save them, since when you first meet them, they are a hostage during Rocket's takeover of the Silph building, thus defeating the purpose of seeing them in battle graphics. On top of this, Blaine's original design has a military motif and may have been too much like Lt. Surge. In other words Blaine's disguise in the manga is a nod to his scrapped design. The Obsessive Gamer on Youtube has a video which goes in to better detail. Blaine was a unique gym leader in that he would have his gym members battle you if you got his Pokémon trivia questions wrong and so he would test the players intelligence. In the anime he would test Ash by speaking in riddles. Facebook Instagram Twitter Official Website Email
James and Will talk about volume 4 of the Pokémon Adventures manga. Including the new and original “Yellow” who is perhaps the first gender neutral looking character we have seen in an otherwise shonen manga. Skip summary of the plot @ 5:15 Email: WeAppreciateManga@Gmail.com 119: Pokémon Adventures vol. 4 Chapters 41 to 52, ‘Ponyta Tale' and ‘Growing out of Gengar' Story by Hidenori Kusaka Art by Mato English Translation by Kaori Inoue Lettering and touch up by Wayne Truman Two years have passed since the events of Volume 3 and the protagonist Red is now missing. A concerned Misty contacts Professor Oak and their talk is interrupted by Red's Pikachu, a bruised, bloody Pokémon dragging its feet as it enters Oak's place. A new and mysterious protagonist arrives to pick the Pikachu up and take it with them as they journey to find Red. Much to Oak's dismay. Red was last seen after he was invited to Battle with Bruno of the Elite Four. A group of Pokémon trainers who are stronger than the Pokémon gym leaders. It is not long until Lorelei of the Elite Four tracks down the Pikachu it's new trainer. The trainer proudly states their name as Amarillo, the Spanish word for Yellow. Lorelei also learns that Yellow has telepathic powers towards Pokémon, a sort of Pokémon whisperer that can heal Pokémon with a touch and express great empathy for them, even seeing through them. Eventually Yellow escapes Lorelei and along the journey meets Red's friends, whom only want to see Pika (Red's Pikachu) be reunited with its owner. Albeit they do not have faith in Yellow. Questioning if Yellow is fit for being Red's substitute. During such a conversation, Pika hears that Red is nearby and tracks his old trainer's scent. In a twist of fate, Pika falls for an imposter Red. A “Super Nerd” who works for the Elite Four. Desperate, friends of Red and Pokémon gym leaders call Blaine for help. Yellow with the help of the gym leaders defeats the nerd but in doing so a Gastly Pokémon appears to spirit the nerd away. Blue appears and makes a decisive strike that ends the Gastly. Blue tells everyone that the ghostly gas Pokémon most likely belongs to Agatha of the Elite Four. He also tells them of his previous encounter with Agatha and how he found the strength to fight a ghost Pokémon. Blue even criticises Yellow for saving a Caterpie (caterpillar Pokémon) during the battle with the super nerd. Saying that Red could have saved it without putting his own life at risk. Blue decides to take Yellow with him and train but not before Yellow is gifted two new Pokémon for protection. Brock's Graveller and Misty's Omanyte. Topics: · A criticism of volume 4 is how the villains are perhaps too mysterious for their own good. Their motives remain hidden and not having any context for their behaviour we do not know what they are willing to do to achieve their goal. This does not make an entertaining read since by making the villain mysterious you risk making the stakes too vague to understand. It is not enough to know what characters fight for, we also need to know why. Understandably the villains are trying to cover up something but we do not know what as of this volume. · Writing mystery is a good way to entice readers and keep them stuck to the story. But Hidenori reveals information too soon, making the sense of mystery trite. · Yellow as a character is first time we see a gender-neutral looking hero in the franchise. Although addressed as male by others in the story, there is no signifier or trait to tell us that they are male, they also lack traits that tell us there are female. The straw hat and tunic add to this warm, innocent and naïve appearance of a child, a contrast to someone like Lorelei who has a more mature and effeminate appearance since she wears high heels and glasses that comb away her thick hair. · The origins of Game Freak from fanzine to game design company and Ken Sugimori's journey from mangaka to designer. For more information on the history of Game Freak and Pokémon creator Satoshi Tajiri there is the article, The Ultimate Game Freak - TIME and Dr. Lava's twitter as well as their amazing blog on Nintendo History. Differences and Comparisons to other Media: · The Super Nerd appeared as a trainer class enemy in the original ‘96 game, having a personality between the Pokémon maniac and the Scientist. They are really Geeks who specialise in Poison and Electric Pokémon. They usually have Voltorbs that do the self-destruct move, which in and of itself seems like a commentary on nerd culture. From the original Japanese text their name translates to “Science-man” with the in-game scientist class having a name that translates to “rouge researcher” · The Elite Four are the last bosses of the original '96 game and called the Pokémon masters in some cannon. In the anime Lorelei was named Prima, this was so that she would have the same syllables as her original Japanese name, Kanna, which is written using the Kanji for the word cold and/or dread The name Loreilei comes from a slate rock located on the Rhine River at Sankt Goarshausen in Germany, believed to have been haunted by a siren that lured sailors to their death. The etymology behind the name has the words Lurein and the Celtic word Lei, which means murmuring, or whispering rock. Agatha may have possibly got her name from Agatha Christie, the famous murder mystery writer and creator of Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple. Agatha's Japanese name is Kikuko, and is spelt using the kanji for devil, demon or ghost. Bruno, the fighting type Pokémon master gets his name from the words brawn and brute, his Japanese name, Shiba, is derived from the word, “Shibaku”, which means “to strike”

Season 7B/C draws to a close, even if maybe everyone participating in it didn't quite make it to the finish line. We've cleared the runway for David Sims, aka GringusD, to join us again after a brief hiatus to talk about Let's Go, the first time he played versus returning to it. Aside from traversing the surprisingly devastating Victory Road and taking on the Elite Four, we cover what we like and don't like both about the game and our own EXPLocke—with which one of our hosts once again struggles to keep a firm grasp on the rules of his own damn playstyle variant. You might as well call Josh & Tanner Pete & Chasten at this point because they're a family of Mayors Cheat.
Today we're talking about Pokemon Infinite Fusion, that fan-game that asks the question: what if you could fuse two Pokemon together, and create entirely new monsters? We discuss how fun and imaginative this game is, Samuel walks through his Elite Four-winning team, and we discuss some of our other favorite fan projects including speedruns and randomizers. Also, why we hate the death of single-minded focus. (Recorded April 30th, 2023.) (Check out the Infinite Fusion Calculator here.)

Skull Lord has crushed the Alolan Region under his boot at last and Parrothead has kept the good vibes and good GOOD Pinap berry juice flowing from sea to shred-worthy sea. There's just one last obstacle to overcome for the disjointed duo. No, like, literally– they had to climb a mountain this week. And honestly? They both felt pretty ishy about it since it was apparently SACRED GROUND to the Tapus. (By the way, Tapu-hunting season is OPEN!) When we finally overcame every challenge and crested every summit, our hard work was rewarded with the shabbiest Elite Four we've ever gone up against. After dodging some thrown keys and cold approaches, we battled. Let's just say it went VERY well for the guy writing this description. (Incidentally, Tanner has been called an inspiration and is considered a mentor and role model to many successful people.)

With the Primal titans put back to bed, the criminal syndicate dispatched, and Steven still as sultry as ever, Admiral Squirt thought he and his beloved Mrs. Squirt could finally enjoy their golden years; Papa Cultura had already packed his bags and hopped on his personal Concorde, Latias, back to Italia—but it turns out there's a bit of an "Armageddon"/"Deep Impact" situation and they have to save the Pokéarth once again. While not as compelling as either of those films, the Delta Episode does take the trainers on one last ride from the edges of Hoenn to the edge of space. Will their Pokémon survive the journey? Will Josh's Mayor Cheat allegations against Tanner be vindicated? And who will win the final battle to determine the season's champion? Bug Catchers, we'll answer all those questions and more, other than whether either of us won the Contest Spectacular because honestly we forgot about that whole thing.
“And so we've come, to the end of [Victory] Road.” –Boyz II Men. A jam-packed leg and a jam-packed episode this week and we see ourselves to the exit of the game via an absolutely wild number of unstoppable water routes, a totally useless town on stilts, and an equally useless city outside of Victory Road. Wattson needed a little help with a power surge under his luxury condo in Mauville Hills, Sidney needed help figuring out how to sit in his chair, and May needed some help building a usable Pokémon team for once in her life. We were less accommodating of that last one. Oh, and we finally took on Bugcatcher Jonny of Anime Territory fame! Go check out his show but also join /r/bugcatchers for a chance to go head-to-head with us at the end of next season.
One of the most exciting factors about the Pokémon games, is finding out the teams used by the gym leaders, elite four, and champions. While some of them do make sense, others are VERY questionable to say the least. Eric goes over every gym leader, elite four member, and champion throughout the Pokémon games, and gives them teams that fit them better! Our heroes enjoy a well-deserved respite after an extremely long leg last week, as well as (always) the company of Anthony "Bud Light" Smith, who joins us to take on Kalos's Elite Four. They learn about his "low concept" character who launched into her journey to become Champion all to get revenge on the owner of a poorly managed Airbnb she once stayed at. Other than that, she's quite loved her time in Kalos, and we spend some time reflecting on how hot everyone in it is, aside from a couple of hideous mon we encounter at the Pokémon League. Finally, the three trainers battle in the penultimate showdown before the season finale. Will Josh or Tony dare to take on LoveMaker69's "Secret Society"? Only by daring to listen will you find out. Notes: Make sure you never miss Tony's Top Tooterinos (sp?) by following @AnthonyBLSmith on Twitter and @anthonybriansmith on Instagram.
Red is finally ready to challenge the Champion after defeating The Elite Four but to his surprise it is his old rival Blue! How will this battle end? Let's watch and find out!
Drew and Shawn sit down this week to discuss the "Elite Four" left in college basketball, the epic Will Smith slap and why Brick Ross and Wessell Restbrook are slipping in the playoff run. They also talk about their recent success in the sports betting world. Enjoy!
The boys (who are now the Unova region champs, by the way) bumped into Bad Josh/Mr. Wrong/Hugh in Undella Bay this week and picked up a little HM called Waterfall, so you know what's going to happen in this episode. Loose ends are tied up, legendary Pokémon are hunted down and captured, and an entire quarter of the map is unlocked for our Pokémonning pleasure. Over on Mr. Right's team, things are smooth sailing, but Slaanesh is coming stacked this week with an all-new team, including one former ally from seasons past that finally finds its spot on an elite-level team. And stick around for the battle between the boys. The outcoming may end up surprising you.
Our time in the Unova region is drawing to a close, but there's still plenty of time to get some truly punishing Kingslocke draws before we summit Victory Road and take on the Elite Four once again. Some of us even had to build and train entirely new teams on this, the final leg of the main game, which is just insulting frankly. And once we're done taking on the Elite Four and the Champion of Unova, there's still one more epic battle: between Mr. Right and Slaanesh to decide once and for all who mastered the Kingslocke ruleset.
This week Shannon was unimpressed by EVERYTHING including Sony's State of Play, Triangle Strategy, and even Turing Red. Justin beat Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and recounts his experience against the Elite Four and Cynthia and why Advance Wars has the worst luck. Zach wasn't here so he's just silently shaking his head somewhere listening to this episode.
