Welcome back to the Red Hand Podcast. It has been a while. Now that the side-show distraction of the World Cup is over, we are back to the main event - the URC - as Ulster prepare to face Zebre away in their opening game. The dust has settled on yet another disappointing campaign as Ireland yet again crashed out in the quarters. We won't dwell on this - plenty has been said by others about their early departure. Suffice to say, we would have won if more Ulster men had been on the field. I'm joking of course, but it's worth thinking about the Ulster contingent (or lack of) in the Ireland squad and look ahead to which players from the current Ulster squad will feature prominently for Ireland in the coming years. It has been a summer of change at Ulster and we consider these changes - the powers that be have decided to rip up the hallowed turf at Ravenhill and replace it with a plastic one. We've also said farewell to a number of players in the off-season including the likes of fan favourites Craig Gilroy, Duane Vermeulen, Jeff Toomaga-Allen and Ian Madigan. We're sad to see them go, but we'll also be welcoming new signings Dave Ewers, Steven Kitschoff as well as James French. We will look forward to watching some promising youngsters step up to hopefully fill the void. Of course, there's also the small matter of our season opener against Zebre to talk about. To discuss all of the above I'm joined by Nathan, Ian, Patrick and Paul.
It may have been a break week in the Rugby World Cup for Ireland, but there's still loads to chat about on this week's House of Rugby podcast. Plus, Pat chats with Ian Madigan about his retirement from rugby, his battles trying to force his way into Ireland's starting XV and gets his thoughts on Ireland at this World Cup.
31 Ireland caps. Two Six Nations titles. Two Champion Cups. Two Pro 12 Titles. One Challenge Cup. Over 1000 career points. It's not a bad innings is it? The 34-year-old sits down with Stuart McAvoy to look back on his career and discuss what's next for him going forward. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Dataships is an interesting niche vendor focused on improving ecommerce site compliance with data privacy regulations whilst simultaneously increasing opt-in rates to boost marketing activity. What's interesting is that Dataships is able to dynamically change consent forms and opt-in capture forms based on a user's location, to ensure the website doesn't unnecessarily block legitimate opt-in permissions. In this episode co-founder Michael Storan and head of partnerships Ian Madigan (who also happens to be an Irish international rugby player, which has delighted James) explain how the solution works and how ecommerce merchants are using it to get results.

E25 That Great Business Show, Ireland's best business podcast.2.00' A hilarious insight into the first seven years of start-up www.ImpactGumShields.com with former advertising exec James Murphy explaining the highly unusual and very, very painful way he found to attract a million viewers to learn about his patented gum shield. It involves Ian Madigan testing the gum shield, but not where or how you might think! Have a look here; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZ0BkQCyQTs After 'a mere' three and a half years Impact has finally secured a patent on its software. Next stop the world. To complete his Impact Gum Shield early executive team James explains why 'he'd hire Dan Weiden (creator of Nike 'just do it' strapline) in a heartbeat'.26' The Ward family owned the Mothercare franchise in Ireland for decades but with the collapse of the UK mothership the Irish franchise finally foundered and the family business went down with it. Marketing director Laura Ward was in Mothercare HQ in Watford, UK the day the story broke. She heard not from management, but she saw it on Sky News. She tells That Great Business Show how traumatic that was. Now, the Ward siblings have started again with www.Kaliedy.com - an online version of what they had - but with a greater emphasis on backing small Irish businesses. Laura wants relevant businesses to contact her with a view to a listing. Her 'Hire in Heartbeat' is Chrissy Teigen. She explains how having Chrissie onboard could make her business go global.47' You may think you know the horse business. That is until you listen to Equine MediRecord co-founder Pierce Dargan. He trots us through the worldwide market opportunities for his software, markets that include Sweden where horse trotting is massive (who knew?), New Zealand where bloodstock makes a mark on the country's GDP, Poland - famed for its Winged Hussars. In total he gives 60,000,000 reasons why his TCD Tangent backed business has a massive global opportunity. As well as hiring his grandad, famous industrialist Michael Dargan, in a heartbeat he also wants Andrew Lloyd Webber in his posse.
