Hear from Michael Cheika as Leicester take on Saracens at Welford Road in the Premiership
Hear from Joe Woodward after Leicester's friendly win over Munster at Welford Road.
Danny is the only one bringing the festive cheer to the pod as we discuss life as a rugby player at Christmas and how many eggs Ashy has with his Christmas dinner. Chris outlines a tumultuous few weeks for the RFU that has seen Tom Ilube resign as chairman and Sir Bill Beaumont appointed in his place on an interim basis. Warren Gatland is staying on as Wales head coach and has been challenged to deliver success in the Six Nations, but what exactly does that look like for a team that didn't win a match in 2024? Bristol win on the road again as they thrash Leicester at Welford Road. Can they go all the way this season, or will they need to tone down their attacking style?
We are back after a two week break and dive straight into a quick review of the tough European campaign. A great effort from the lads away at La Rochelle but ultimately we are sitting at the bottom of the table. We briefly discuss what this might mean for the ‘Andy Uren derby' when Benetton come to town in January and then swiftly move on to more pressing matters…You know…The rugby massacre at Welford Road.We do our best to give justice to the record-breaking events that unfolded on Saturday with a smorgasbord of hyperbole and cliches but also a strange lack of ‘phenomenals' from Miles.Unfortunately we left the cliche bell at home but feel free to make your own ‘dings' as you work thought the episode! We also read out some choice rugby poetry from our hard core listeners and then finish off with a review of the how the Bears Women have fared in the last couple of weeks now that the Ilona Maher carnival has parked up for Christmas. The positive vibes running through all aspects of Bristol Bears are just incredible at the moment and we all need to keep surfing that wave.Happy Christmas and hopefully see a lot of your at Gate on Friday!Much love,Pete, Miles and Lee.Let us know what you think!
Bath are 2 from 2! Slightly later than usual, Gabriel and Tom recap the latest win at Welford Road. The boys then look ahead to the first West Country Derby of the season, debating where the match might be won or lost. Ashy, Danny and Chris react to an eventful weekend of rugby including Christian Wade's hat-trick for Gloucester. Is Ashy going to be tempted out of retirement or is he resigned to losing his Premiership try record? We chat to the league's in-form 9 as Bath's Ben Spencer reflects on their win at Welford Road and tells us about his England ambitions. There are upsets in the URC and WXV, but not in the Rugby Championship. Is this Springbok team the greatest ever? And there are more complications for Steve Borthwick as he tries to rebuild his coaching team before the autumns.
Bath are top of the league! Gabriel and Tom review Friday's epic win over Saints. The boys also preview the trip to Welford Road on Sunday. Use code BRP2 for 10% off with Black and White Butchers events. @bathrugbyplug on socials #ThickandThin
We're back after the summer break and to kick things off we've got a special interview with the Premiership's big new arrival. Chris and Ashy sit down with the new Leicester boss Michael Cheika to find out how he ended up at Welford Road and what keeps the experienced Aussie motivated as a coach. It's been a tumultuous off-season for Steve Borthwick and the RFU. We react to the news that Aled Walters has joined Ireland and Felix Jones will also leave his role as England defence coach. Plus, Twickenham has a new name and we hear all about Ashy's packed summer trying to keep his kids entertained during the school holidays.
This week we pick over the carcass that was the massacre in BS3 and we're not talking about the hammering of Falcons at Ashton Gate last weekend. No, we're talking about the first ever live pod at the Bristol Beer Factory Taproom. We look back on an evening of structured chaos, discuss the learnings and then move quickly on to more pressing matters such as the fantastic victory yesterday away at Welford Road that keeps play off hopes firmly in our own hands.19- zip down on 69 minutes and we're looking down the barrel but shots fired from the bench, and in particular from Max Lahiff and the returning Harry Thacker, and a yellow card to Mike Brown and we haul it back from the brink with a last gasp try and conversion to make it 21-19. It's fair to say the home crowd didn't take to that too well but boo hoo, that's life baby!We talk about the game with help from some selected short sharp summaries and then look forward to the final two games in the run-ins. Do we dare to believe? Spoiler alert. We do!Bristol Bears Women were also in action on Sunday in the Allianz Cup final at Shaftesbury Party and despite leading at half time, were eventually defeated by a strong Saracens side. We have a quick chat about that and their hopes for the run- in and then finally we run though a bit more ‘Bris-ness' from the week, including some contract news, the Supporters Q&A at the HPC and introduce a new feature - ‘news from the media' as we notched a flurry of Bears-related articles in the press this week. It's great that everyone loves the Bears again after years of media hibernation and just shows where running, offloading and try-scoring can get you….Join Pete, Lee and Miles as they have a cheeky beer and a bit of rugby banter…

The regulations target greenhouse gas emissions, requiring coal plants to cut carbon emissions by 90% by 2032. Georgia Power may need to revise plans regarding coal ash disposal and faces potential compliance challenges for legacy coal ash sites. Power industry groups criticized the rules, citing concerns about job losses and reliability. Litigation is expected, especially concerning carbon emissions rules. Georgia Power, despite reducing emissions, faces scrutiny for plans to extend fossil fuel capacity. Environmental groups urge utilities to reconsider gas-dependent future amid EPA's regulatory actions. STORY 5: Dog theft causes same emotional turmoil as losing a child New research suggests that dog owners who experience pet theft undergo significant emotional distress, akin to losing a family member or child. The bond between owners and dogs is profound, often intensifying the grief. However, legal frameworks often treat stolen dogs as mere property, limiting support from law enforcement. The manner of theft, whether through force or burglary, exacerbates the trauma. Owners may face delays in processing grief, akin to PTSD, especially if the dog isn't recovered. This study, published in Human-Animal Interactions, underscores the need for psychological and legal support tailored to the unique grief experienced by dog owners. Further research aims to develop support tools for those affected by dog theft. We'll be back in a moment Break 3: INGLES 2 DTL INTERVIEW We'll have final thoughts after this. Mike and Elliott drag themselves in front of the mic to chat about a crushing loss away at Northampton, a defeat that may spell the end of Tigers' playoff hopes. As always, we try to find some reason and some positives in the performance, before picking ourselves back up to have a chat to old mate Joe Heyes and to get behind the boys ahead of a tasty fixture at Welford Road against a red-hot Bears side.
This episode is dedicated to the memory of Ruby Cole, a young Gloucester supporter who tragically passed away last week. All our thoughts are with Jo and Neville at this difficult time, as well as all of Ruby's family and friends. There is a Go Fund Me page, in memory of Ruby, aiming to raise funds for Great Western Air Ambulance. The link can be found below. https://www.gofundme.com/f/walking-for-ruby Gloucester Rugby defeated Leicester Tigers at Welford Road for the first time since 2007 after a battling display and a late Stephen Varney try, but the focus was very much on Zach Mercer who put in a performance that showed exactly why he should be in the England squad and why he is so important to the team. We chat through the game, the performance and why once again the style of play and attacking intent is so important. In the second half of the pod, we discuss the TMO issues from last weekend, the Women's Six Nations first round and preview our next game against Bristol.
Shaun and Thala review the first round of Champions Cup and Challenge Cup games - a weekend of mostly positive results and performances for the South African teams. We start with the Bulls dominant win over Saracens at Loftus. We discuss Cameron Hanekom's rise as the next big thing in South Africa rugby and the dangerous Bulls back 3. We then go to Welford Road where a mostly second string Stormers outfit nearly shocked Leicester at home. There were encouraging performances from three likes of Keke Morabe, Jurie Matthee and Sti Sithole, but Handré Pollard and Jasper Wiese led Leicester to the bonus point win. We go through each of the other Champions Cup games. We note Leinster using the Jacques Nienaber rush defence to finally get a win over the champions, La Rochelle. We talk about some of the surprise results from the weekend, including Exeter beating Toulon and Bayonne getting a draw with Munster and finally talk about the entertaining game of the weekend - the Siya Kolisi-led Racing being beaten by Harlequins. We also review victories from the Sharks, Lions and Cheetahs in the Challenge Cup. We finish off by talking about the Cape Town SVNS, the dominance of the Australian women's team, the Argentines breaking the pool and what reforms may be needed for the South African women's team.

Mike and Elliott sit on their soggy bottoms to chat to the people's champion of the Great British Bake Off and huge Tigers fan, Dr Josh Smalley, about his experiences in the tent, playing rugby and following Leicester through thick and thin. Plus, we keep things high brow by chatting to Charles Richardson of the Daily Telegraph about the big home win against Newcastle, before turning our attention to the Champions Cup opener at Welford Road against South African side, the Stormers.

Mike and Elliott host a shortened podcast due to work/holiday commitments but that's probably for the best as they face up to a sobering evening at Ashton Gate as the Tigers crash to a disappointing loss against Bristol. We also look at how the boys may find redemption against Sale at Welford Road on Saturday, as well as naming a proper nutter at blindside in our Nails XV.
Mike and Elliott think things are starting to build nicely for Tigers after a convincing win over Ampthill in the Premiership Cup, but look for the side to take it up a notch in the upcoming crunch game against Newcastle, which will likely decide who tops the group.Plus, we look at some legendary locks for the Nails XV and wonder if the disastrous World Cup campaign for the Wallabies could have a knock on effect at Welford Road...
It's another jam packed episode with those rugby dummies from America. On this episode we are talking about the 6 Nations happenings including Sarah Hunter saying her farewell in her home town and a big performance from the Azzuri. We are also yapping about a critical round in the Prem including a few teams that virtually eliminated themselves from top 4 contention including the action at Kingston Park, Welford Road, Tottenham and The Rec. Yes, of course we did not miss out on a big round of Super Rugby where some teams clawed their way back in it while one team still is standing head and shoulders above the rest. We stop quickly in Quincy for what was a dreadful match, but sometimes you just win those and move on. All this, so much more, kick back and join us with a cold one won't you? Hear our thoughts on team selections and Bristol's chances of making the quarter finals. All this and more with TC and Lee (cos the other two are up a mountain somewhere playing in the snow!).

It's another batch of fun from those American rugby fools. On this episode we unfortunately had our pick of the lot for our discrimination piece, I'll let you guess which one we picked out to talk about. Of course, we then dive in to the final round of pool play in the Champions Cup, going from Welford Road, to the Stoop, the Aviva and up to the shadows of Murray Field. Did things go the way they should have? Is the competition still flawed with 16 teams making the knockouts and how does last years qualifiers stack up to this years. The Red Roses take on Ireland at Welford Road this weekend in Round 4 of the Six Nations, so what better way to look ahead to the clash than with Scaz's Loughborough Lightning teammate and Ireland legend, Gill Bourke. Elma quizzes Gill on Scaz's hurling skills at training, and her incredible career in data science; she professes not to be the next Moneyball, but we don't buy it. She also tells the team about the head injury that ended her international career, the help she got from Sean O'Brien in getting back on her feet, and the mountain she had to climb to rediscover her love of rugby.

Despite recording only our third win at Welford Road in the league, the 26-23 victory will be remembered as much for what happened on the sideline as the events on the pitch. In the show we give our reactions to the performance and Pat Lam's intervention in stoppage time as John Afoa eventually returned to the pitch as a replacement tight head and won the game for Bristol. Was Pat right? Was Steve Borthwick wrong? We also get the inside track on London Irish with Jerry Browne, Chair of the London Irish Supporters Club. Jerry gives his thoughts on Irish's season, prospects for the upcoming game against Bristol and we hear all about the new stadium in Brentford. We also have Sinckler's Lions call up, Tom Kessell's departure and ask why is it taking so long to sell the 6,000 plus tickets for the final league game? All this and more on this week's show, the first to be recorded with the four of us together in one room since March 2020!

Adam Whitty, Chris Egerton and two Tigers fans look ahead to Leicester against Bristol.
After last weekend's European finals we discuss the fall and rise of our hometown club Leicester Tigers and lay out our plan for the club for when we strike it rich on the Euromillions. After a number of years in decline and only avoiding relegation due to Saracens' points deduction last season, Leicester has been a club growing stale for a while now and we believe we have a foolproof plan to bring back the glory days to Welford Road. Also keep an ear out for the rugby headlines of the week and disappointing brief coverage of the Eurovision Song Contest
It's all aboard the good ship Leicester this week as Alex, Tinds, Ellis and Ben look ahead to their European Challenge Cup Final against Montpellier. Ellis discusses how the team has improved under Steve Borthwick and reveals his unusual route to the club. Tinds reminisces about the legendary Tigers side of the 00s, and why just walking out at Welford Road was fraught with danger. And Ben muses on why things eventually fell apart. Plus, Ellis looks back on his omission from the Lions. And if that wasn't enough, you can find out how to win a pair of tickets to the Heineken Champions Cup Final, and maybe get to watch the match with the GB&R team.

Austin Healey, also known as the Leicester Lip, was a hugely versatile player, gaining international caps for England at scrum-half, fly-half and wing. Healey began his career with Orrell and Waterloo at wing or outside centre before switching to scrum-half when he signed for Leicester Tigers in 1996. It was this admirable versatility that proved to be Healey's greatest success and disadvantage in the game leading to him often, unfairly, being labelled as a "jack of all trades, master of none". In reality Healey was at times a fiercely intelligent scrum-half, full of snap and niggle and always aware of the chance for a sniping break. On the wing, his pace and tactical awareness allowed him opportunities at club and international level following the arrival of Fijian Waisale Serevi at Leicester. His desire to play at fly-half was granted at Leicester at the expense of Andy Goode, but Healey never reached the heights expected of him in the position. Indeed, he only won a single England cap at 10. Healey was an often outspoken member of the rugby fraternity, having spats with coaches Graham Henry, Andy Robinson and Pat Howard during his eventful career. He received his full England debut against Ireland in the 1997 Five Nations, and went on to amass 51 England caps. During his career he was a Lions tourist in 1997 on the victorious tour of South Africa and again in 2001 during the series loss to Australia. His only Test caps came as a replacement in the second and third Tests in 1997. Healey's finest moments on a rugby pitch came in the green and red of Leicester however. In the 2001 an 2002 Heineken Cup finals Healey was instrumental in bringing the silverware to Welford Road. He provided the break that led to the winning score against Stade Francais in 2001, and he scored the decisive try himself against Munster in 2002. Following the high of the 2002 Heineken Cup win, it was back down to earth when Healey was left out of England's World Cup-winning squad in 2003. This event would gnaw at Healey to the end of his career, and he never played for England again following the World Cup warm-up with France in August 2003. His retirement came at the end of the 2005-06 season following several damaging injuries. Healey then worked for Credit Suisse and served as an analyst for the BBC and Sky. In 2008 Healey took part in the sixth series of Strictly Come Dancing, following in the footsteps of Matt Dawson and Kenny Logan. In 2010, Healey was confirmed as ESPN's lead analyst prior to the UK channel's first season of Aviva Premiership rugby.

This weeks' guest is former London Welsh front row player, Greg Bateman. Greg arrived at Old Deer Park in 2011 giving up a full time job and moving from Dorking RFC to have a crack at being a full time professional rugby player with Welsh. During that time he converted to hooker and played two years for the club, before a move to Exeter Chiefs to continue playing in the Premiership. Whilst only there for two years, Greg enjoyed the environment, bud didn't play as often as he liked, so he made the move to Welford Road to play for Leicester Tigers. Greg played across all three front row positions, the only Premiership player to do so and the self proclaimed, People's captain, played nearly 100 games for the club. He is now playing for Newport Gwent Dragons and has also just launched a range of beer, aptly named The People's Captain.
