On Episode 257 of Jake's Happy Nostalgia Show, writer Peter K. Hirsch returns to the show! Peter has written for a number of children's series, with most of his work being with PBS! His longest writing job was on Arthur, taking on the role of head writer later in the show's run. He also wrote episodes of Between the Lions, Lomax: The Hound of Music, Peep and the Big Wide World, Curious George, Martha Speaks and Octonauts and was head writer on Molly of Denali and Jessy & Nessy. Recently, Peter co-created the new Max series HOP!

On Episode 243 of Jake's Happy Nostalgia Show, we interview writer and author Louise Gikow! Louise's professional career started as a writer and copy editor for the National Lampoon magazine. She then started writing books based on a number of Henson projects, including Fraggle Rock, Muppet Babies, Labyrinth and many others. She also wrote music and lyrics for the Sing Along with Kermit and Friends book-and-tape sets and wrote the Sesame Street 40th anniversary book. As a television writer, Louise is best known for her work on series such as Between the Lions, Peep and the Big Wide World, Cyberchase and Space Racers. She also co-created the Disney series Johnny and the Sprites and the PBS web series Oh Noah!

Ever heard the quote, "jack of all trades, master of none?" Did you know there was more at the end of the saying?  It actually goes, "Jack of all trades, master of none, better than being a master of one." The saying can be used for many different points of context, but in this case, Schyler Bardole is on his way to being a jack of all trades and a master of many.  He farms with his family on their heritage farm (150 years in the same family), as well as with his wife's century farm, raises Scottish Highland cattle, pigs, bees, not to mention his 2 boys with a third kid on the way.  He always is a follower of current world events, and in this episode shares what he has learned about the world and its people, and the direction we are going.  His insights are fascinating, sure enough so it is not farfetched in the future you'll see him with a podcast of his own.  We could have several hours long, but enjoy this episode with a great guest.

We take time off from our busy lives to bring you the Top 5 Cigarettes, a discussion so good it will take your breath away. GET OUT is Jordan Peele's sensational 2017 horror and follows photographer Chris as he runs a dizzying gauntlet of trying to remain politely affable whilst attempting to not be too offended when he meets girlfriend Rose's liberal parents for the first time in a wearying weekend away. It's MEET THE FOCKERS with racism then, right? Well not quite. A movie which intentionally plays on the fear of white people, for example the worry that young black males might reasonably have of experiencing violence in predominantly white American suburbs or the existence of apparently well-meaning surface-level non-racist liberals who turn out to be monsters perpetuating schemes of marginalization, subjugation and literal appropriation, this is an astonishing debut with Kubrickian style attention to detail and foreshadowing, clever dialogue, tight writing, a moody and evocative soundtrack and new ideas and discussions represented on screen. An absolute must see from a unique voice, already its targets seem a little dated with the US having culturally and spiritually regressed about a century since 2017 and the subtle threat of neoliberal racism now far outweighed by the more overt xenophobia and bigotry of the hard right, which seems to have more of a platform than ever. It's the end of winter and Quack the duck has just finished his latest installation of Snow duck art in PEEP AND THE BIG WIDE WORLD. When a bored Peep and Chirp discover the astonishing things you can do with beaver, life will never be the same for either of them again. Why is the world so confusing? Welcome back to week two of this mini-mester on the Dear Daughters Podcast! Let's keep tackling your deepest questions and biggest tangles. There are two “worlds” you live in: 1) The Big Wide World … in your neighborhood, city, state, across the country, and across the globe. You don't have much control over this world. And you have to remember that you are getting glimpses of this world through other peoples' perspectives. 2) Your Small World … your personal world, your relationships, your choices, etc. You have more influence here but it is not meant for you to manage on your own. O LORD, my eyes are not haughty; I do not concern myself with great matters or things too wonderful for me. But I have stilled and quieted my soul; like a weaned child with its mother, like a weaned child is my soul within me. Psalm 131:1 Confusion and chaos in your world creates all kinds of fear and anxiety. I hope you know that you are not meant to live like that and you don't have to live like that. All of agriculture will benefit from U.S. insistence that trade agreements be enforced, even as dairy seeks export opportunities around the globe, says Shawna Morris, NMPF's Senior Vice President for Trade. “Having the willingness to be able to go ahead and enforce what's needed when it becomes clear that, that's what's required, we think sets a good tone,” said Morris in a Dairy Defined podcast released today, referring to the U.S. Trade Representative's recent decision to pursue a dispute settlement over Canadian practices related to the USMCA trade deal. Meanwhile, even as existing agreements need enforcement, new deals must be pursued, she said. “One of the biggest things that's on our radar is simply the drum beat about the importance of pursuing new market opportunities,” she said. “USMCA is a piece of that. We want to make sure the market opportunities we got in that agreement just last year, we maximize, but it's a big wide world out there.”
