The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 1: 3:05pm- According to a statement from the Department of Homeland Security, a woman was shot and killed by immigration enforcement agents in Minnesota after attempting to run over ICE agents with her car. 3:20pm- While speaking with the press, Gov. Tim Walz denied having ever used “inflammatory terms” that would have encouraged Minnesotans to confront federal agents attempting to enforce immigration laws. However, less than two minutes later in the very same press briefing, Walz accused Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem of being an “executioner.” 3:30pm- In a press conference on Thursday, Vice President JD Vance addressed the yesterday's shooting in Minneapolis: "I can believe that her death is a tragedy, while also recognizing that it's a tragedy of her own making.” He continued, "everybody who has been repeating the LIE that this is some innocent woman who was out for a drive in Minneapolis when law enforcement shot at her—you should be ashamed of yourselves." 3:40pm- Vice President Vance announced the creation of a new Assistant Attorney General position who will have “nationwide jurisdiction over fraud”—focusing on Minnesota welfare fraud initially. 3:45pm- On Wednesday, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey accused ICE of “causing chaos and distrust” and stated: “To ICE, get the f*ck out of Minneapolis.” Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner is now echoing similar sentiments and threatening to impede immigration enforcement in his city.

But how unique are Trump's efforts to avoid spending when he does not favor it? Kevin Angell compares what Congress appropriated to what agencies actually spent over decades, finding that presidents have long moved spending toward their preferences. Even after impoundment controls, presidents found ways of not spending money they never requested from Congress. Trump is more blatant and could be more extreme, but administrations have long used their tools to obtain some power of the purse from Congress.

Minnesota-based retail giant Target is encouraging its store employees to smile and interact with customers more. Target shared with MPR News that the employee training program is called “10-4.” At 10 feet within a customer, Target is guiding store employees to smile and make eye contact with customers. And at 4 feet, employees should consider a conversation. The new guidance has caused quite the conversation, with people reflecting “how do I want to be interacted with when going to a store?” Joining Minnesota Now is an expert in consumer behavior and psychology, Aaron Sackett. He's a marketing professor at the University of St. Thomas Opus College of Business.

Written by Witi Ihimaera and directed by Katie Wolfe, the play follows the life of a Maori woman born in 1840, the year the treaty of Waitangi was signed, as she travels through our history. This version of the play is called Tiri: Te Araroa Woman Far Walking, and it has an updated script with English and te reo Maori weaved together. Katie Wolfe chats to Jesse.

The problem we face is that God rarely shows us the destination. Like our GSP, God usually gives just the next step. To hear God's instruction, you have to listen for His voice. The White House Office of Management and Budget is instructing agencies to consider reducing staff for programs that have a lapse in funding in the event of a government shutdown, as tensions rise ahead of the Sept. 30 end to the fiscal year. “With respect to those Federal programs whose funding would lapse and which are otherwise unfunded, such programs are no longer statutorily required to be carried out,” the undated message said. The guidance goes on to say that consistent with applicable law, including a federal reduction in force statute, agencies are directed to use this opportunity to consider RIF notices for employees working in projects, programs or activities that have a funding lapse on Oct.1, don't have another source of funding, and are not consistent with President Donald Trump's priorities. The project, program or activity must meet all three criteria, the message said. The message places blame for a possible shutdown squarely on congressional Democrats, calling their demands “insane.” The OMB message explains that the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, legislation passed earlier this year that is at the heart of Trump's second-term agenda, provided “ample resources to ensure that many core Trump Administration priorities will continue uninterrupted.” Federal cyber authorities sounded a rare alarm last week, issuing an emergency directive about an ongoing and widespread attack spree involving actively exploited zero-day vulnerabilities affecting Cisco firewalls. Cisco said it began investigating attacks on multiple government agencies linked to the state-sponsored campaign in May. The vendor, which attributes the attacks to the same threat group behind an early 2024 campaign targeting Cisco devices it dubbed “ArcaneDoor,” said the new zero-days were exploited to “implant malware, execute commands, and potentially exfiltrate data from the compromised devices.” Cisco disclosed three vulnerabilities affecting its Adaptive Security Appliances — CVE-2025-20333, CVE-2025-20363 and CVE-2025-20362 — but said “evidence collected strongly indicates CVE-2025-20333 and CVE-2025-20362 were used by the attacker in the current attack campaign.” The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency said those two zero-days pose an “unacceptable risk” to federal agencies and require immediate action. Allegations claim Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officials intentionally downgraded charges to make crime statistics appear lower. A whistleblower with knowledge of MPD operations confirmed the alleged manipulation. One commander, Michael Pulliam, was suspended over the incident, but the issue may span all seven patrol districts. Justice Department & Federal Probe The investigation follows the Justice Department announcing its own federal probe into D.C. crime statistics. Discrepancy: official reports say crime is at a 30-year low, but residents and whistleblowers say otherwise. Donald Trump’s Position Trump claims FBI crime stats are “fake” and is framing D.C. as a test case for federal intervention in U.S. cities. He threatened to send troops to Baltimore, raising concerns among local officials. Trump portrays himself as confronting “business as usual” in crime reporting and law enforcement. Cashless Bail Executive Order Trump signed an executive order to end cashless bail, starting in Washington, D.C. The order: Directs federal law enforcement to prosecute arrestees federally where possible. Seeks to prevent pretrial release without bail. Threatens to withhold or revoke federal funding from jurisdictions with cashless bail policies. Attorney General must identify such jurisdictions within 30 days. Political Reactions Democrats: Angry at Trump’s intervention. Argue cashless bail gives judges discretion to detain or release based on risk, not wealth. Say Trump is using the issue as a distraction from other policy failures (e.g., prices, economy). Trump Allies & Conservatives: Portray cashless bail as a failed liberal policy fueling crime.
