Thad Forester's brother, Mark, was killed in Afghanistan while in the 2nd day of a full-scale operation. He received the Silver Star and Purple Heart to name a just a couple of honors he received for his courageous actions before being KIA on 29 September 2010. Thad and his family started the Mark Forester Foundation to provide scholarships to students who attend Hayleville High School in Haleyville, AL, where the Foresters were born and raised. Thad walks us through their growing up years, time at the University of Alabama where he and Mark lived together, his brother enlisting in the Air Force, Mark being killed in action, and then Thad discusses his "Patriot the Core" podcast and his book "My Brother in Arms". Here is an excerpt from the About section of the website www.markaforester.com As a young man of 20 years old, Mark Forester was outraged by the events of 9/11 and knew then it was his calling to fight terrorism. He received his college degree, and then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in June 2007. Despite everyone telling him to go in as an officer, he wanted to enlist because he wanted to start from the bottom up and he knew his chances of getting better deployment opportunities would be increased as an enlisted airman. He wanted the toughest job the military could offer, and Air Force Combat Controller was what he was looking for. He was deployed to one of the most coveted areas by Combat Controllers in May 2010, FOB Cobra (Tinsley). He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with Valor for his heroic actions while engaged in ground combat against the enemy on 6 August 2010. Mark was fatally wounded during combat on 29 September 2010. He was posthumously awarded the Silver Star for his actions during that fateful battle, and the Purple Heart for paying the ultimate price for freedom. He was killed in action alongside one of his Special Forces teammates. JAG 28, which was his call sign and the only name many pilots knew him by, was immediately retired after his death. Most of his teammates/leaders who spoke at his funeral and memorial services ended their speeches with “Roll Tide” because they knew what a big Alabama fan he was. - adapted from the www.markaforester.com website.

Obecnie sytuacja w Afganistanie jest bardzo trudna z powodu przejęcia władzy przez Talibów. Po prawie dwóch dekadach polscy żołnierze wrócili z Islamskiej Republiki Afganistanu. To jedna z najdłuższych i najtrudniejszych operacji zagranicznych Wojska Polskiego. Wzięło w niej udział ponad 33 tys. żołnierzy i pracowników resortu obrony narodowej. W 2011 roku do Afganistanu w ramach IX zmiany PKW Afganistan wyjechała reporterka Radia Zachód Karolina Kamińska.
"You do not wander into an Air Force recruiter's office and suddenly find yourself out at Firebase Cobra. You have to want it, and you have to work extremely hard to get there. Mark Forester sought the path he was on, and it was truly the path less traveled." Those are the comments a commanding officer said about Mark Forester, who was killed in combat in Afghanistan in 2010. Today, we meet Mark through his brother Thad and a book he wrote called "My Brother in Arms," on this episode of PICK UP THE SIX podcast.

ON A MISSIONMENTAL AND BEHAVIORAL HEALTHCARE for all in our Armed Forces is a GOOD, IMPORTANT, and ESSENTIAL thing that SHOULD BE ENCOURAGED.For my sisters and brothers-in-arms of the United States Armed Forces, this is for you… for all of us! The beauty of being at the pinnacle of one's military career and in its twilight years is that you just may find you have more courage and confidence to speak up about things that you should have always been able to speak up about when you felt fairly certain that you would be criticized or scorned.I am Shawn Walrath. I am an Air Force O-6/colonel. These are matters of public record. And I'm asking for a few minutes of your time.We SHOULD NOT have NEGATIVE STIGMAS associated with MENTAL and BEHAVIORAL HEALTHCARE! Someone (me) seeking Mental or Behavioral healthcare should be viewed no differently than someone seeking everyday Primary Medical or Dental healthcare. It's about taking care of oneself and each other! So, here's that next big step in my career...I choose to be an even stronger advocate for Mental and Behavioral healthcare. I choose to not only lead, encourage, and support others but to LEAD BY MY OWN EXAMPLE! So here it is...I am a MENTAL HEALTH PATIENT. I am a BEHAVIORAL HEALTH PATIENT. I am a survivor and I am receiving therapy for diagnosed Anxiety Disorder. The specifics are for me and my provider(s). I am also a survivor and I am receiving therapy for diagnosed Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Again, the specifics are for me and my provider(s). I share this NOT for sympathy. Because, I'm all good. My therapy over the past 14 months has helped me a great deal in learning how to change how I think about and how I respond to these challenges. Rather, I share this to REASSURE my fellow service members--my fellow joint warriors--that you too CAN and SHOULD be comfortable in seeking Mental or Behavioral healthcare. I DIDN'T LOSE MY SECURITY CLEARANCE. I WASN'T REMOVED FROM MY JOB OR MY POSITION OF TRUST. I WAS STILL A VERY SUCCESSFUL SQUADRON COMMANDER WHILE SUFFERING MOSTLY ALONE. I'M STILL WORLDWIDE DEPLOYABLE. AND... I'M STILL A STRONG HUSBAND, FATHER, FRIEND, AIRMAN, LEADER, OFFICER, INTELLIGENCE PROFESSIONAL, AND JOINT WARRIOR. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY...THERE IS NOTHING, AND I MEAN NOTHING, TO BE ASHAMED ABOUT!If you need support, encouragement, or assistance, CALL ON ME. I'M HERE. I will NEVER leave a SISTER or BROTHER-IN-ARMS alone. We're in this TOGETHER, through it all.SHARE YOUR STORYI am writing an article on this topic that I started over a year ago. And it will hopefully be published this summer. Please feel welcomed and encouraged to share this blog and podcast on your own social media platform.Again if you need help and you are unsure of where to start or how to start, call on me. I'm here... for you!--Sincerely and faithfully yours,SHAWN P. Count on your "Brothers in Arms" to always have your back. Dinah takes her very small group of honest, loyal cops to begin the hunt for Diaz and his men. They begin by arresting Anatoly, but don't think it's going to be that easy. There are just too many people in the city with ties to Diaz. Even with help from the Mayor himself, Anatoly is not held very long. And to top it off, the bad guys are starting to take out the remaining good cops. Oliver can't even weed out the corrupt officials without fallout. He fires the DA and the Captain, but they go out swinging with some serious allegations against the mayor. Diggle is still holding a grudge against not getting the hood, but he's not sure why until he talks to Lyla. After a successful Vertigo sting with Green Arrow, he finally comes to a shocking realization: He's not happy with Oliver's leadership and decides to make it on his own. Alone, losing to the enemy, and not a stitch of hope in sight, how will Oliver get himself back on top? Jay and Josh slap each other around until mom steps in, on this week's Green Justice: An Arrow Podcast! Listen in and justice will be served...to your MP3 player!
