"High In My Balloon" When it comes to the Grammy-nominated musician and composer Willie Aron, he's worked with so many people, it might be faster just to list the people he hasn't worked with. Born in Southern California, Aron studied classical piano before falling in love with the Beatles and new wave and teaching himself guitar. He co-founded The Balancing Act who signed to I.R.S., put out three excellent albums, toured with 10,000 Maniacs and They Might Be Giants before calling it a day in 1989. After the band broke up, Aron became an in-demand session musician and over the years he's collaborated with Leonard Cohen, The Dream Syndicate, Rickie Lee Jones, Milo Binder, Susanna Hoffs, Brian Wilson, Michael Penn and Peter Himmelman. Speaking of Brian Wilson, yes, that's Wilie in Love & Mercy and he was also a consultant for the Beatles doc Eight Days A Week. Willie also has worked as a film and television composer, a producer of children's music and a composer for commercials and music libraries. Additionally, he helped develop the curriculum and write original songs for a Los Angeles-based children's music space and company called Play Music (play-losangeles.com) and he also earned a a Master's Degree in clinical psychology from Antioch University in Los Angeles. As for the bands he plays in currently, the list is long, but let's just start with Moremen/Bonebrake with Matthew Sweet guitarist John Moremen and X drummer DJ Bonebrake, an improvisation outfit called Mushroom, The Vince Melouney Sect featuring original Bee Gees guitarist Vince Melouney, and the all-star musical collective known as The Wild Honey Orchestra that raises money for autism. All of which brings us to Thee Holy Brothers, which finds Willie teaming up with his pal Marvin Etzioni who you might remember from Lone Justice and his appearance on this podcast. The duo's new album "High In My Balloon" is a sterling platter of rootsy stomp and jangling pop that's pure melodic joy. And this conversation is equally joyful and it's also a reminder that being a nice person like Willie Aron leads to lasting friendships and as we all know, without lasting friendships, none of us would last. www.theeholybrothers.com (http://www.theeholybrothers.com) www.bombshellradio.com www.stereoembersmagazine.com (http://www.stereoembersmagazine.com) www.alexgreenbooks.com (http://www.alexgreenbooks.com) Stereo Embers The Podcast IG + BLUESKY: @emberspodcast editor@stereoembersmagazine.com

Producer/bassist Jim Reilley will most likely be remembered as a founding member (along with musical partner Reese Campbell) of seminal folk rock band The New Dylans. Founded in 1986,the band barnstormed the US throughout the 90's and won critical praise from Rolling Stone (who called their songs “offbeat classics”) and virtually every other major music publication and major newspaper. The Village Voice placed the band in the top 5 Ep's of 1986 in their prestigious Pazz and Jop Poll. Michael Stipe of R.E.M. proclaimed The New Dylans his favorite band of 1986 and Natalie Merchant (of 10,000 Maniacs) would often jump onstage and sing with the band. After 10 years of solid touring often over 175 dates a year sharing stages with many luminaries including (R&R Hall Of Famers) The Band, Reilley moved to Nashville to sign a writing and production deal with Curb Records. As a songwriter, Reilley had over 60 songs recorded by such artists as Hal Ketchum, Sam Bush, Vince Gill, Lauren Daigle, Hillary Scott, Claudia Church, Leann Rimes, Cowboy Crush, Jana Kramer, Jack Ingram, Lila McCann, Carly Pearce, John Cowsill, Vicki Peterson (The Bangles), Tim O'Brien and had a European hit with Danish Rock legend Peter Belli. Welcome back to Music Maniacs W/ Sight After Dark! After a few months of not being able to produce podcasts frequently, we have decided to make a change to our usual format. While we love researching and discussing our favorite musicians, it is very time consuming and not conducive to frequent episodes. As such, we have decided to relax our format a bit and turn this podcast into more of a hangout. The two of us love talking music, and we don't always need a specific topic to do it! We aren't going to force ourselves to make an hour if we start running out of steam, so episode lengths may vary. Let us know what you think about the new format! ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Do you love Music, and Music History, with a side of Comedy? Send us a textIn this episode, we explore the multifaceted nature of courage and its transformative power in our lives. Through powerful stories and important insights, we examine how courage manifests not just in grand gestures, but in the everyday choices that ultimately shape who we become. The episode begins by challenging listeners to consider the fears that often hold us back—fear of uncertainty, judgment, failure, and even our own potential. These fears can keep us silent and immobilized, preventing us from finding our authentic voice and creating meaningful change.Through four real stories, the episode illustrates different dimensions of courage:Speaking Truth to Power: Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr.'s decades-long battle against the medical establishment in the 1800s demonstrates the courage to stand by one's convictions, even when facing ridicule and rejection. His persistence in advocating for hand washing and sterilization eventually saved countless mothers. Facing Adversity: A candid conversation with a firefighter reveals the courage required to confront mental health challenges in a profession that often discourages emotional vulnerability. His story illustrates how acknowledging personal struggles and seeking help during difficult times can be one of the most courageous acts.Reimagining Possibilities: Andrea Proske's extraordinary journey from hotel manager at age 27 to Olympic gold medalist in rowing at 35 exemplifies the courage to reimagine what's possible for our lives, regardless of our starting point. Everyday Courage: We're reminded that courage often happens in quiet moments when no one is watching—when we choose self-compassion over self-criticism, set boundaries that honor our wellbeing, or take the first small step toward meaningful change.Courage isn't the absence of fear—it's taking meaningful action despite that fear. It happens in those pivotal moments when we choose alignment with our deepest values over comfort, prioritize truth over acceptance, and dare to reimagine what's possible.Episode Credits:Music from the 10000 Maniacs and the brilliant Natalie Merchant can be found hereNatalie Merchat's WebsiteMusical backdrop from fireman story from popular TV series White Lotus and it can here Oliver Wendall Holmes Sr. info can be found hereYou can find out information about the writer Jack Kerouac here and all his booksOlympic gold medal commentary for 2020 Tokyo Olympics hereYou can also connect with the inspiring Andrea Proske and find her website here.LinkedIn Instagram Twitter 'X' Connect with Andy VasilyLinkedIn TwitterDisclaimer for this Podcast- A note from the heart: This podcast was created with one mission—to illuminate paths toward better mental, emotional, and social well-being.
