I'm excited to have Skye Jethani back on the podcast. When we talk about justice, we often think in binary terms - judgment or mercy, punishment or forgiveness. But as Skye argues, the biblical vision of justice is far more nuanced and holistic. At its core, justice is about the proper ordering of relationships - between humanity and God, as well as between individuals and communities. It's not just about retribution, but about restoring the shalom, the wholeness and flourishing, that God intended for his creation. This understanding upends many of our assumptions about justice, both in the church and in society. He challenges the popular American Christian idea that justice is something the government does, not the church. And he unpacks how this bifurcation between the "vertical" and "horizontal" dimensions of justice has deeply distorted our theology and our engagement with the world. But Skye also offers a compelling alternative - a vision of justice that holds together judgment and mercy, individual transformation and systemic change. It's a vision rooted in the cosmic victory of Christ on the cross, where the powers of evil were defeated and a new order was established. This is a conversation that spans creation, Christology, and the church's role in pursuing righteousness. Skye draws on Scripture, church history, and his own experience to paint a rich, nuanced portrait of justice that challenges us to rethink our assumptions and expand our imaginations. So join us as we reckon with justice.Skye Jethani is an award-winning author, speaker, and co-host of the Holy Post Podcast and co-founder of Holy Post Media. Skye has written more than a dozen books and served as an editor and executive at Christianity Today for more than a decade. Raised in a religiously and ethnically diverse family, his curiosity about faith led him to study comparative religion before entering seminary and pastoral ministry. With a unique ability to connect Christian thought and contemporary culture, his voice has been featured in The New York Times, USA Today, and The Washington Post, and he's spoken to audiences throughout the world as diverse as the U.S. Naval Academy, The Chautauqua Institution, and the Lausanne Movement.Skye's Book:What If Jesus Was Serious About Justice?Skye's Recommendations:How Far to the Promised LandThe Ballot and the BibleSubscribe to Our Substack: Shifting CultureConnect with Joshua: jjohnson@allnations.usGo to www.shiftingculturepodcast.com to interact and donate. Original Air Date: May 21, 2021 Eckhart Tolle elaborates on the paradox of order and chaos that exists in our world. For many of us, especially this past year, living through the pandemic has wreaked havoc on our lives. We've experienced loss of socializing, income and perhaps the loss of someone we love. While we might be tempted to despair, Eckhart says order and chaos are an essential part of a higher order. He says there are larger forces at work in the Universe and if we can surrender to that, life's challenges have the potential to transform our consciousness.
This year we are reading through the Bible in a year, and the sermons each week will go along with the reading. We begin with the first 11 chapters of Genesis, the “introduction” or “prologue” to the story of the Bible before the narrative thread begins with Abram’s call in Genesis 12. How do these … Continue reading Order and Chaos
Welcome to the light between podcast. Every soul's energetic anatomy is formed and shaped in our outer reality as we age. Today, we focus on the lower primal chakra's, their connection to being grounded in this time of transition, and the vital connection between our inner selves and the vastness of the messages that come from what I call "Ancient Mother." This transmission comes from a Akashic Reading Meditation to lift us all In this global transformation to find stability and peace which always begins with grounding ourselves to the roots that bind us to the natural world.Imagine for a moment that we are microcosms of the Earth, each of us composed of the same elemental forces that shape our planet—fire, earth, air, and water. These elements don't just exist around us; they flow within us, influencing our thoughts, emotions, inspirations, and our very sense of being. Just as the tides ebb and flow, or storms gather on the horizon, these elements shift within us, creating a dynamic internal landscape that mirrors the external world. Our journey today delves into the Earth element, the foundation that offers us stability and a sense of peace. To understand this, we must first recognize that we are intrinsically connected to nature. Our bodies, minds, and souls resonate with the rhythms and laws of the natural world. When we stray from these rhythms, an innate response seeks to realign us, restoring balance within our inner ecosystems.Consider the notion of initiation—not as a daunting trial, but as an opportunity for growth and transformation. These initiations challenge the illusions that keep us feeling isolated from the world around us. They invite us to dismantle the barriers of fear, outdated beliefs, and emotional narratives that suggest we exist separately from humanity and the fabric of life itself. In truth, what affects one of us resonates through the collective whole. Embracing this interconnectedness shifts our perspective from feeling protected by separation to feeling empowered by connection.Life, at its core, is a spiritual path with a singular goal: to become one with Truth. This clarity allows us to act with integrity and embrace change without fear. Often, our resistance to change stems from a desire to cling to illusions where nothing new can disrupt our carefully constructed plans. Yet, every initiation presents a chance to peel away these layers, revealing the authenticity of who we are when free from fear.Grounding ourselves to the Earth is not merely a metaphor but a tangible practice that influences our personal and spiritual ecology. By nurturing this bond, we not only enhance our individual well-being but also contribute to the collective harmony of our planet. Imagine the Earth as a living entity, where each of us plays a part in maintaining its balance and health.Let's explore the essence of our relationship with nature. We are attuned to the flow of the tides within us and can sense the approach of storms long before they hit. This deep connection governs our actions and decisions, guiding us back when we stray. When we honor the rhythms of nature, we honor ourselves, finding safety and grounding in the very essence that sustains us.Roots are another vital aspect of this connection. Just as trees extend their roots deep into the earth, we too have an archetypal need to belong, to establish our place in the world. Roots symbolize our beginnings, our identities, and our connections to our ancestors and traditions. Without deep roots, we become wanderers, searching for a sense of belonging. Yet, even as nomads, we carry the essence of our roots within us, grounded by the tribe of our fellow travelers and the legacy of our traditions. In the dance between order and chaos, we find another layer of our relationship with the Earth. Life's cycles are constant, and embracing this ebb and flow allows us to navigate change with grace. Striving for excessive control only generates chaos, as nature inevitably asserts its course. Learning to flow with these cycles, rather than fight against them, brings harmony and prevents the catastrophic outcomes that arise from resistance. Finally, we come to the unmovable forces—the immutable laws of nature that mirror the divine. These laws are consistent and absolute, ensuring that every action has a consequence. Understanding and trusting these laws helps us navigate life's darkest nights, knowing that balance will ultimately be restored. In this trust, prayer becomes an intimate dialogue with the universe, aligning our personal journeys with the divine rhythm of existence. As we journey through these initiations by Earth, we uncover the layers that connect us to the planet and to each other. We learn to embrace our roots, flow with life's rhythms, and honor the unmovable forces that guide us. This exploration is not just about understanding; it's about embodying the harmony and peace that come from being deeply grounded in who we are and where we belong.Thank you for joining me on this exploration beloved. May you find stability and peace as you reconnect with the roots and rhythms of Mother Earth, navigating the beautiful transformation of our shared journey. In this episode, Lucas Pulley and I have a great conversation around microchurches and decentralized church networks. Lucas shares his story of how he got involved in microchurches and how they operate. We talk about having an "ecclesial minimum" of worship, community and mission, microchurches can be mission-specific around a calling or distributive with people following various callings, the importance of connecting microchurches through area collectives and larger events, the need to move through the spaces of belonging, and insights into preventing heresy and abuse through governance structures while still allowing for messiness and the priesthood of all believers. Join us as we discover what God is doing through microchurches. Lucas Pulley is Executive Director of Underground Network, an experimental community made up of over 160 microchurches in Tampa Bay and serving dozens of similar decentralized and empowering movements around the world. Lucas has 14 years of experience planting microchurches and leading decentralized networks of grassroots churches, and still leads a neighborhood house church in the projects of inner city Tampa to this day with his wife and three kids. He is driven to see cities transformed by the priesthood of all believers activated in the mission of God. How to navigate the chaos that will come to disrupt the order of your life so that you don't prevent your growth in 2024 and beyond? In this edition Jay Shakur examines ideas from Jordan Peterson's "12 Rules For Life". Chaos is unexplored territory. It's the things and situations we don't understand. It's where you go when you get fired; it's the threatening stranger on the street; it's the scary audacious goal you've wanted. It's also the realm of possibility and where new ideas form. Order is explored territory. It's stability and structure. It's your plan for the next day, the comfort of tradition, the customs we use to treat each other. Yet it also can mean concentration camps, fascism, and, less extremely, personal stasis and lack of growth. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jay-shakur/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jay-shakur/support

We discuss the proper balance between factors of order and chaos in order to maintain the stability of a State and lead individuals towards fulfillment in life. We go on many tangents and still have a lot to discuss in the upcoming part 2.

For queries, please contact seminar convenors at saih@history Hasyarnava or The Ocean of Mirth, a medieval Sanskrit political satire, delineates two compelling themes that require serious consideration. First, the Indic traditions underline the centrality of order in a polity. This preoccupation is underlined by the supremacy of the Rajadharma-dandaniti framework. A great deal of violence and cruelty inheres within this framework. Second, if the order is the site for violence and force, it follows that a glimpse of freedom, unshackled from the conventional implications of the purusharthas can only be had in upholding the desirability of disorder.

This week on Culture by Design, Timothy R. Clark is joined by James Evans, Director of Knowledge Lab at the University of Chicago. They talk about how to activate diversity, how to harness collective intelligence, and the paradoxical interplay between innovation and execution. You won't want to miss the gems from this episode:What is computational social science? (2:30) Turns out, it's hard to explain. It's how we engage in collective action, thinking, and memory. It's reducing the data to make sense of it. It's using computation to create better social policy. In short, it's unprecedented.Insights and findings in collective intelligence (8:00). We all need help with maximizing collective intelligence. Dr. Evans shares his insights on the subjects. He highlights the power of diversity of experiences, perspectives, and identities across contexts. How to activate the diversity of their team members (12:20). Teams that are “flat” are more likely to combine elements in novel ways and produce disruptive outputs. Success is its own worst future failure (13:00). If something succeeds too well., it crystallizes itself and destroys any of the diversity that could make it better. We need to find creative destruction, not destructive creation. Many organizations are compositionally diverse but don't harness that power. Ways to activate diversity in a team (15:45). Big teams are less likely to activate their underlying diversity (more efficient, but less innovative). Cultural flatness dramatically improves innovation. Interdisciplinary teams maximize the possibilities of creation.Cultural flatness neutralizes hierarchies (23:00). We experience cultural flatness when we're agnostic to title, position, authority, and power distance. We can debate issues on their merits and remove the exaggerated difference in the chain of command. What really facilitates productive difference? (36:00) Dr. Evans discusses where innovation actually lies in teams and organizations. Older participants crystallize the system. Diverse expeditions are the real game-changers.Protecting boundaries and silos create a reservoir of ideas (40:30). This is why innovation is so difficult! It's a complete paradox. Teams cannot execute and innovate at the same time. We must surf the boundaries between execution and innovation in order to be successful.About Our Guest:James Evans is the Director of Knowledge Lab at the University of Chicago, which has collaborative, granting and employment opportunities, as well as ongoing seminars. He also founded and now directs the Computational Social Science program at Chicago, and sponsors the associated Computational Social Science workshop. He teaches courses in augmented intelligence, the history of modern science, science studies, computational content analysis, and Internet and Society. Before Chicago, he received his doctorate in sociology from Stanford University, served as a research associate in the Negotiation, Organizations, and Markets group at Harvard Business School, started a private high school focused on project-based arts education, and completed a B. A. in Anthropology at Brigham Young University. He is especially interested in innovation—how new ideas and practices emerge—and the role that social and technical institutions (e.g., the Internet, markets, collaborations) play in collective cognition and discovery.
In this episode I discuss the dynamic relationship between Order and Chaos–the basic building blocks of the universe. I have come to see this dynamic tension underlying EVERYTHING, from psychological well-being, to relationships, to the success of athletes, artists, and companies, to the health and survival of social and political systems. Striking the balance between these two forces–or, we might say, walking the "Middle Way"–guides us to greater psychological, physical, and social well-being. It also might determine whether our society survives. Expect to learn: What "chaos" and "order" mean and how they manifest psychologically. The relationship between "masculine" order and "feminine" chaos in society. What happens when order and chaos become pathological (i.e., extreme), both individually and collectively. How certain mental health disorders (e.g., anxiety, depression, addiction) reflect either too much order, or too much chaos; where you might fall on this spectrum; and why I've turned to this framework for managing my OCD symptoms (i.e., too much order). How to set a compass for your day, and life, that includes a healthy mixture of the two. Why NBA champs and your favorite athlete, team, performer, author, etc. is fundamentally representing a balance of order and chaos (and thus why we're drawn to them). How Improv and Stand-Up Comedy balance these energies and provide a framework for healthy living. Why chaos is not "bad," but an opportunity to reorganize into something better and more beautiful. Humor me here... We all remember the story of Goldilocks and the 3 Bears. The one where Goldilocks went through the bears' house trying porridge, sitting in chairs, and sleeping in beds. The term "Goldilocks" has been adopted over the years to describe the perfect version of something - when conditions are juuuuust right. I wonder if that's ever the case? Are situations ever perfect? So often, we wait for CERTAINTY when we want to make a change. We don't leave our current situation, even if it's killing us, because it's predictable... we know what to expect. This week's #truthseekers guest Rich Levert shares his story about taking the leap to start his own company when his wife was 8 months pregnant! Starting as 1 guy in a truck, we welcome you to listen to Rich's story of growth, embracing the balance between order and chaos to to get his company to where it is today. Enjoy! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/nick-davies7/support
In this episode, The Moms cover a topic that's inevitable when raising kids, regardless of our attempts to negate it: chaos. We've all experienced it. Whether it's the chaos on the playroom floor after a day at home, the chaos of packing, planning, supervising, and recovering from an adventurous outing with kids, or our own internal chaos, when it comes to motherhood, chaos is a given. This particular Momversation is all about when to lean into chaos, when to manage it, and how these Moms' responses to chaotic environments or emotions differs from their husbands' responses. The Book Blurb in this episode comes from book six of the timeless Young Adult fantasy series, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince by J.K. Rowling. One noteworthy mention is an episode of Glennon Doyle's podcast, We Can Do Hard Things, on Overwhelm.
What can we learn from the first two chapters of Genesis? A lot actually. In this video, we discuss a plethora of different topics from psychological to philosophical to scientifical. Using these approaches, I aim to give you a comprehensive guide to understanding more about the first part of the Bible, the creation. This is a very profound and insightful text and is often abused by critiques of the New Atheists. Rather than responding to these pointless arguments, I felt that it is better for us to look at these texts in a positive light to see what we can learn from them.I hope you find these videos helpful and for more videos on this Biblical series, make sure to stay tuned on this channel. --------------------------To check out more about my content feel free to go to my YouTube Channel Apologetics for All to access clips and extra discussions
