Sarah Blanc is an Irish artist based in London. She is simply magnificent: she shines with positivity, passion and enthusiasm. She s also funny as hell. I love that she describes herself as a loud mouth choreographer, performer and host. Sarah is the Artistic Director of Moxie Brawl -  a spicy inclusive dance theatre company who makes work that your mum would love (isn't that best line ever). As a freelance choreographer/movement director she has worked with companies, organisations and artists such as Complicite, Bryony Kimmings, the Royal Opera House, Perth Concert Hall and The Place amongst others. She is currently working with  Dan Daw and Xnthony Ltd.Together we talked about protecting your own peace, happiness, the love of performing and the sensation of a full on impostor syndrome of a council estate princess.

In the first episode of our new series Lauren and Rina speak to performer and writer Bryony Kimmings. Bryony's son Frank is autistic and two years ago, she was also diagnosed with ADHD. They talk about Bryony's parenting approach, discovering your own neurodiversity and how to balance a neurodiverse family with sometimes conflicting needs and wants. With her characteristic candour and wicked humour, Bryony describes how much she has learnt about herself and in doing so, how she has become a better parent to Frank as she drives to create their own neurodivergent utopia in their crumbling old country home. Content Warnings Drug taking and alcohol misuse Diagnosis Guest Biography Bryony Kimmings is a playwright, performer, documentary maker and screen writer from the UK. She is inspired by female stories, social taboos and dismantling power structures. Kimmings' work is brutally honest, very funny and often a bit geeky and dangerous. Bryony's stage work includes her plays (as writer and performer): Sex Idiot, 7 Day Drunk, Credible Likeable Superstar Role Model, Fake it til' you make it and I'm a Phoenix, Bitch. Her TV and film work includes the documentaries The Sex Clinic (C4) and Opera Mums (BBC) and the feature film Last Christmas, which Bryony co wrote with Emma Thompson. Bryony is working class and loud mouthed; a deep thinker, world fixer, activist and trouble maker all wrapped into one. She likes adapting and reimagining books, creating 3D female characters. She enjoys writing about class, gender and disability. Having toured all over the world with her shows (created about real events in her life) from the National Theatre to the Sydney Opera House, Bryony is now focusing on writing for film and TV. Bryony is also an ADHD mother to an ASC son of 7 years. She lives in the country, trying to homestead and get off grid with varying degrees of success. Nature and food brings Bryony joy, as well as cracking cinema and splashing in water with her son. www.Bryonykimmings.comResource linksSocial model of disability | Disability charity Scope UKA Radical Guide for Women with ADHD: Embrace Neurodiversity, Live Boldly, and Break Through Barriers - Sari Soldenhttps://www.sarisolden.com/publicationsBryony recommends....How to raise a happy autistic child, by Jessie HewitsonThe secret to… raising a happy autistic child | Parents and parenting | The GuardianADDitude magazineADDitude - ADD & ADHD Symptom Tests, Signs, Treatment, Support (additudemag.com)"I follow Instagram accounts of autistic teenagers, as an insight on how to support younger children; Write an access document for friends/family, a 'how-to' for supporting your kid;Be wary of the online reading you do on ASC and check charities actually have ASC people on their staff and board, that it comes from thoughts in the community; I try my best not to watch or support films or tv where disabled people are played by non disabled actors, called 'cripping up'. Performance artist Bryony Kimmings talks with writer and producer David Micklem about what might tempt her back into making theatre again. In this podcast she pleads with those that hold the power in theatres to better respond to the needs and wants of local audiences. She argues for the better payment of all artists, and their future role in getting out into the real world to make theatre by, with, and for the people theatres exist to serve. She calls for radical change - a culture reset perhaps - and makes the case for the importance of arts and culture in the UK. Dance Dialogues: A Podcast

We recorded Episode 10 with our guest artist Sarah Blanc a couple of months back, when coronavirus was something we'd barely heard of here in London and before we had any idea of the impact it would have, not only around the world but on the industry we work in. In the last week a lot has changed; most of us in the dance industry have lost our work and everything feels quite uncertain. Still, as this podcast is a place for conversations about our industry and the paths we find through it, we hope you'll still find this conversation with Sarah relevant (and entertaining!) even if in a slightly different light. Enjoy the episode and let's keep talking and moving forward together. Sarah Blanc is a multi-award winning choreographer and performer. She creates solo work and is artistic director of Moxie Brawl, a fresh all female inclusive dance theatre company. Her choreographic work has toured extensively across the world and has been seen on artists and companies such as Complicite, Bryony Kimmings, Little Red Kettle along with commissions for large outreach projects led by Candoco Dance Company, R.A.D. Perth Concert Hall and Kings Cross. She is currently working with Dan Daw and Blink Dance Theatre and is excited to start a new family work based on Punk culture, collaborating with Brigitte Aphrodite and Quiet Boy. She is one third of AnnieVickySarah—a trio of collaborators who are questioning ‘inclusive’ dance practices within creative settings. Catch her on tour this year with her solo show My Feminist Boner.Rachel Elderkin is a freelance dancer and dance writer based in London. Her dance writing can be also be read in the Stage, londondance.com, Exeunt and British Theatre Guide. Emilia Clarke (HBO’s Game of Thrones), Henry Golding (A Simple Favor, Crazy Rich Asians), Michelle Yeoh and Emma Thompson star for director Paul Feig (A Simple Favor, Spy, Bridesmaids) in Last Christmas, a romantic comedy inspired by a George Michael beat, from a screenplay by Academy Award® winner Thompson (Sense and Sensibility, Bridget Jones’s Baby) and playwright Bryony Kimmings. Kate (Clarke) harumphs around London, a bundle of bad decisions accompanied by the jangle of bells on her shoes, another irritating consequence from her job as an elf in a year-round Christmas shop. Tom (Golding) seems too good to be true when he walks into her life and starts to see through so many of Kate’s barriers. As London transforms into the most wonderful time of the year, nothing should work for these two. But sometimes, you gotta let the snow fall where it may, you gotta listen to your heart … and you gotta have faith. Last Christmas features the music of George Michael, including the bittersweet holiday classic of the film’s title. The film will also premiere brand new unreleased material by the legendary Grammy-winning artist, who sold more than 115 million albums and recorded 10 No. 1 singles over the course of his iconic career.
