Lizzie Lee is a genre-defying vocalist blending classical precision with the soul and spontaneity of New York's jazz tradition. Her voice—praised for its rich color and “acrobatics and élan”—offers a bold reinterpretation of the American Songbook and beyond. Raised in Alaska and trained in Paris and New York, Lizzie brings a rare combination of global sensibility and emotional connection to her work. Her debut album, 72nd Street, recorded at the legendary Van Gelder Studio, is a striking statement of identity: lush, lyrical, and rooted in both tradition and risk. The album features a stellar lineup including Joe Farnsworth (drums), Stacy Dillard (tenor sax), John Webber (bass), Joe Block (keys), and Rob Nuovo (guitar). With performances across NYC, the northeast and internationally, and acclaim from artists like Bill Frisell and David Broza, Lizzie is merging elegance with edge, storytelling with swing, while fast becoming a name to know among vocalists in the jazz world. In the classical genre, Lizzie is a dynamic soprano praised for her “brilliant coloratura, acrobatics, and élan” (Opera Magazine) and has performed across the United States, Europe, and Asia. Lizzie debuted in Europe at Staatstheater Darmstadt and has received international acclaim for her roles as the Parrot in the world premiere of Mahosot: Architect of Dreams by Somtow Sucharitkul in Bangkok and as the Countess in Le Nozze di Figaro in NYC. She has appeared as a soloist with the Jenaer Philharmonie, Bergische Symphoniker, and in concerts in Vienna with Maestro Francisco Araiza. Her artistry has been shaped through work with legendary mentors such as Martina Arroyo and the late Dalton Baldwin, whose influence continues to inspire her interpretive depth and stylistic sensitivity. Lizzie has performed at iconic venues such as Carnegie Hall and the Sydney Opera House and has worked closely with artists from many of the world's most prestigious theaters including the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House, San Francisco Opera, Washington National Opera, and Opéra Bastille.

fWotD Episode 2872: Flight Pattern Welcome to Featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia’s finest articles. The featured article for Sunday, 16 March 2025 is Flight Pattern.Flight Pattern is a contemporary ballet choreographed by Crystal Pite, set to the first movement of Henryk Górecki's Symphony No.3. It premiered at the Royal Opera House, London, on 16 March 2017, making Pite the first woman to choreograph for the Royal Ballet's main stage in 18 years. The ballet won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Dance Production in 2018.Flight Pattern examines the plight of refugees, drawing inspiration from 20th and 21st-century events, particularly the refugee crisis caused by the Syrian civil war. The ballet starts with 36 dancers performing on stage and transitions to a series of duets and solos originated by the dancers Marcelino Sambé and Kristen McNally. The piece was mostly positively reviewed by critics, with many praising the performance of the two soloists and the choreography of the ensemble. In 2022, Pite expanded the ballet into Light of Passage, with Flight Pattern becoming the first part of the ballet. The narrative is non-linear and the movement uses lines created by the dancers' bodies and formations of queues to create tension on stage. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:53 UTC on Sunday, 16 March 2025.For the full current version of the article, see Flight Pattern on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm long-form Danielle.

Netflix is raising their rates... AGAIN, and people are somehow blaming Meghan and Harry despite Netflix signing SEVERAL multi-million dollar contracts for many years prior to signing their contract with the Sussexes. Let's dissect the ridiculousness. The Ethiopian government will reportedly be demanding that King Charles return "immoral" artifacts that have been kept in Britain since the 1868 Battle of Magdala. Per a report published by The Telegraph on Friday, Jan. 24, officials in Ethiopia's capital of Addis Ababa will be pushing for the return of items from the Royal Collection as well as treasures kept elsewhere in the United Kingdom, such as the British Museum. The items kept by the King are sacred to the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, per the outlet, which also notes that the government in the United Kingdom will be asked to support Ethiopia's push for the items' return next year. The Ethiopian Heritage Authority will lead the move for the return of the items alongside the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, according to The Telegraph. EXCLUSIVE: The memoir of a choreography teacher who secretly taught Princess Diana to dance is to be turned into a 90-minute feature documentary. Canadian producer-distributor Sphere Media has secured rights to Anne Allan's ‘Dancing with Diana: A Memoir‘ and will co-produce it with Alan Clements' Glasgow-based Two Rivers Media. Sphere Abacus, the sales arm of Sphere, will shop the doc internationally. It's early days for the project so no network or streamer is attached yet. Scottish-Canadian dancer and London City Ballet mistress Allan was the late Princess Diana's dance teacher, and co-choreographed her ‘Uptown Girl' routine at London's Royal Opera House, which she surprised Prince Charles with in 1985. Allan's memoir, which recounts the performance, was released last year. For our Season Three bonus episode, we speak again with the divine Dana Stephensen. Dana and I initially spoke about 18 months ago, and in that conversation we covered Dana's journey into the Australian Ballet, managing her hyperthyroidism and weight gain. We talked about promotions, meeting her now husband Lachie becoming a mom and returning to the stage. This time I speak to the newly retired Dana Stephensen, who after 19 years dancing with the Australian Ballet finally gave a farewell performance at the Royal Opera House in London. In this hugely inspiring episode, we reflect on the depth and the bravery of Dana speaking about postnatal depression after the birth of her twins, how she returned to the stage as a mom of three and clawed back both her confidence and sense of self. But we also talk about the struggles of juggling tour life with Lachie and her three children and how she came to the decision to retire before finally turning to her thoughts for the future.Dana now lives in Brisbane and is settling into life with her husband Lachie and their three children. While she's newly retired from the Australian Ballet, Dana made a surprise appearance with the company in their Brisbane season of “Swan Lake.” You may catch her here and there as she continues to guest with the company. For Australian Ballet tickets and show times, head to their website, australianballet.com.au, or you can find them on Instagram at @ausballet. The Royal Ballet and Opera House in London continue their programme of access to their productions for blind and partially sighted people with both live and recorded audio described performances, along with accompanying introductory notes and touch tours. If you have ever wondered what goes in to audio describing ballet and dance then do join RNIB Connect Radio's Toby Davey for an insight into how the Royal Ballet's current production of Cinderella is brought to life for blind and partially sighted people through pre show introductory notes, touch tours and audio described performances. Prior to the general rehearsal of Cinderella On Monday 2 December 2024 Toby caught up with Professional Audio Describers Julia Grundy and Jane Brambley to find out what goes in to the process of describing a ballet production like Cinderella, how they both work on their description scripts, thinking about what props and costumes to include on a touch tour and whether they adapt their live description script at all for the recorded description which is now available at every performance of Cinderella.  After chatting with Julia and Jane Toby also caught up with Ania Kapazat, one of the Administrative Producers at the Royal Ballet, to find out more about how she has helped Julia and Jane with their description as well as listening in to the dry run of their audio description at the general rehearsal of Cinderella. During the first interval of the general rehearsal of Cinderella Toby managed to catch up with Kevin O'Hare, Director of The Royal Ballet, to firstly chat about how things have gone in getting this production of Cinderella to the general rehearsal, how embedded access and audio description is within the company and a snap shot stand out moment from Cinderella that really shows how everything comes together to bring the story of Cinderella to life on stage with audio description too. About Cinderella The Royal Ballet's current production of Cinderella continues on the main stage of the Royal Opera House until 16 January 2025 with recorded audio description now available at every performance.  This enchanting ballet by The Royal Ballet's Founder Choreographer Frederick Ashton is a theatrical experience for all the family over the festive holiday. A co-production between the Royal Ballet and the national Ballet of Canada. In 1939, Frederick Ashton first began to consider creating a full-length work, the Company's first three-act ballet. At the time it seemed like the obvious next step for British ballet. The idea was shelved during the war but in 1946 Ashton returned urgently to it. Inspired by other balletic adaptations of Cinderella coming out of Russia, Ashton chose to create his own version of Charles Perrault's famous rags-to-riches story. Set to Prokofiev's exquisite score the ballet received its premiere in 1948 featuring Moira Shearer and Michael Some's in the lead roles.  A World Where Dreams Blossom  The designs of this production of Cinderella are heavily influenced by nature and flowers. As the Fairy Godmother and the Seasons' fairies come into Cinderella's world, the muted tones of the family living room are taken over by a burst of colour. The creative team behind the exquisite world of Cinderella includes set designer Tom Pye (My Neighbour Totoro, Olivier award for Best Set Design), costume designer Alexandra Byrne (Elizabeth: The Golden Age, Academy Award for Best Costume Design), lighting designer David Finn (Brokeback Mountain), video designer Finn Ross (Les Miserables, Frozen) and illusions by Chris Fisher (Harry Potter and The Cursed Child).   To find out more about The Royal Ballet's current production of Cinderella do visit the following pages of the RBO website - https://www.rbo.org.uk/tickets-and-events/cinderella-details You will also find more information about access at the royal Ballet and Opera House on the following access pages of their website - https://www.rbo.org.uk/visit/access-at-rbo Image shows the RNIB Connect Radio logo. The book focusses on the history of the Royal Opera House and the Sadler's Wells company during the Second World War. The dramatic climax of the novel is set ahead of the first performance of the 1946 Sleeping Beauty. In 1945 London, the war in Europe is over. But for Briar Woods, a dancer at Sadler's Wells Ballet, the past resurfaces and brings her face to face with the truth – and now, it feels as though her war has only just begun.  Since 1939, Rosamund Caradon had taken in many children from Britain's bombarded cities, sheltering them in her Devonshire manor. Now, with Germany's surrender, she is en route to London to return the last evacuees, accompanied by her dance-obsessed daughter Jasmine. Rosamund vows to protect Jasmine from any peril, but a chance meeting with a Sadler's Wells dancer changes everything. When the beautiful, elusive Briar Woods bursts into Rosamund's train carriage, it's clear her sights are set on the captivated Jasmine. As Briar sets out to charm them both, Rosamund cannot shake the eerie feeling this accidental encounter isn't what it seems. While Briar may be far away from the pointe shoes and greasepaint of The Sleeping Beauty ballet rehearsals, her performance for Rosamund might just be her most successful yet. We meet Tom Rasmussen to explore their new album Live Wire. We discuss their love of art, collaborations with artists Hannah Quinlan & Rosie Hastings, Shon Faye and Travis Alabanza, their love for Rene Matić, writing new songs with Romy and Self Esteem and what it was like being photographed by the legendary Tim Walker on both album covers. This episode was recorded in Los Angeles while Tom put the final touches to the Live Wire album.“Live Wire (Globe Town Records 2024) was written over a year where the last thing I wanted to talk about was violence, or what it meant to be queer. I've done it so much, I wanted to think about and feel about what it meant if I could live beyond that. This album is about happinness, the bittersweetness time passing, trying to live when the world is falling down both inside and out. In terms of the production, we wanted to create songs where vastness and intimacy existed in the same place like on Body, Heart, Mind; or where there was so much space for the feelings of the listener — like on There's A Lot To Be Happy About. Other songs like Song For M and Never Look Back, with Romy, are songs which start in a dream like space and aim never to take you out of it.”Tom's debut album Body Building (Globe Town Records 2023) fused dark dance music with an aesthetic and live performance that takes influence from their past life in drag. Born and raised in Lancashire, Tom moved to London where they fell into the world of drag, performing everywhere from the Royal Opera House to Glastonbury.Although their drag alter ego Crystal was distinct for singing live, it wasn't until Rasmussen started writing their own music that their performance persona began to change, revealing more of themselves. Thus came their debut album Body Building, an album that pierces the skin with its falsetto vocals and moments of queer euphoria punctuated by acoustic instrumentation.Having already toured with Rina Sawayama and Self Esteem, Tom Rasmussen has already made waves with audiences across the UK. Especially with their single Dysphoria, the inimitably catchy, powerful yet poignant ode to their experience with their body.Follow @TomRasmussen on Instagram.Live Wire, is OUT NOW via Globe Town Records and includes collaborations with Romy and Self Esteeem.Listen here: https://open.spotify.com/album/2e2BL8KVYFFPve2vtCmO4l Hosted on Acast. As this podcast goes to air, the light of the moon is growing. We are moving through the final energies of the eclipse portal. We just moved through the 10/10 portal aligning with a master vibration. This is known for its powerful energy of transformation, completion, and new beginnings. Often seen as a cosmic gateway, this day is believed to be a time when the universe's energy is particularly potent, making it an ideal moment to manifest intentions, seek abundance, and embark on a path of spiritual growth… all of which reinforces the eclipse energies we have been moving through. One of the ways you can work with this vibration to help you actualize it is by working with crystals during this celestial event, you can deepen your connection to the universe, manifest your true desires, and step confidently into your purpose which is the subject on the podcast today. Are you looking for a deeper understanding of this new energy for you? Are you feeling disconnected from your purpose in life? Deep within us lies an inner strength, a wisdom that embodies our individuality and core passions. This Soul force is a vital aspect of who we are—an intrinsic part of us that demands to be expressed. Are you feeling overwhelmed by your racing thoughts and stuck in the monotony of your daily routine? Do you sense that there's a different way to navigate life, but you're not quite sure how to find it? I've been there—lost, confused, and feeling utterly alone, as if there was no escape. Sleepless nights and a lack of appetite became my norm, until one pivotal day 27 years ago when I was introduced to a teacher who worked with the transformative energy of Reiki. That experience changed my life. I was reminded of this journey recently during an interview for Woman's World Magazine, where I shared how discovering and learning Reiki helped me manage my anxiety, empowering me to make better choices for myself and, most importantly, for my children. It's significant that such a well-respected national magazine chose to highlight this topic, reflecting how important it is to bring Reiki into public conversation. We need an integrative approach to the stress and struggles of life. If you're ready to shift your perspective and embrace change, I invite you to schedule a complimentary Spiritual Upgrade Call with me. Let's explore the number one thing that's keeping you stuck in old patterns.  Click here to schedule. In today's episode, I speak with Marie Delanote about her latest book, "Ethereal Crystal Healing" which is all about working with the vibrations of crystals. She takes a different approach to crystal energy. Ethereal crystals are vibrational tools created for humanity to help raise its frequency and assist in the ascension of human consciousness. Her book aims to bring in an awareness of these vibrational crystals and thus foster enlightenment while also helping you to raise your vibration and to create a life of health, happiness, success, and abundance. Transformational teacher, multi-award winning writer and entrepreneur Marie Delanote, was born in the Flanders, Belgium, moved to the UK with her British husband and their children in the year 2011 and since 2020 lives with her family in County Sligo, Ireland. Marie studied Double bass at the Royal College of Music in Belgium and played in the orchestra of ‘De Munt', Royal Opera House in Brussels. She stopped playing professionally when she decided to be a full-time mum to her four children. www.mariedelanote.net.      Instagram.     YouTube.      Facebook.     Inner Traditions. Marie later started her writing career and is a published author with Findhorn Press, Inner Traditions. Her latest book is being released in October 2024 'Ethereal Crystal Healing - Create Your Life with the Frequencies of Stones'. As an Ethereal Crystals Master, she helps people to connect with the intelligence and guidance of ethereal crystals; transforming energy between people, the physical body, mind, buildings, earth, past lives, and family circles. Her company Ethereal Crystals Global brings products into the world that supports people in raising their vibration and in its turn can transform their life. Yes.. raising our vibration right now in humanity and holding that alignment for the highest good can help to raise the consciousness and healing of Mother Earth. We meet Es Devlin CBE to discuss her new multi-media work SURFACING commissioned by BMW and unveiled at Art Basel in Basel 2024.A pioneering combination of sustainable energy and movement in an installation of water, light, sound and dance. A dance collaboration and a series of mobile sound installations within a pilot fleet of BMW iX5 Hydrogen vehicles. In Hall 1.1 of the art fair Devlin created a booth displaying four works: Surfacing (2024), an illuminated cube of rain penetrated by a line of light and Surfacing II (2024), a pair of painted televisions in which a dancing figure appears to displace pixels and pigment, are flanked by Mask (2018) a projection-mapped model city fusing hands and river, and Mask in Motion (2018) a revolving illuminated translucent printed city which meshes viewers within its kinetic shadow. Each work continues Devlin's 30 year exploration of the entangled dance between humans and technology. The booth surprises visitors each hour as Surfacing's box of rain, like a magician's apparatus, conjures a 7 minute dance work by renowned Paris-based choreographer Sharon Eyal with music composed by London-based duo Polyphonia. A meeting of artist and engineers: Devlin has spent the past year engaging with engineers at BMW, learning the mechanics behind the hydrogen fuel cell technology and its implications for the future of sustainable energy systems. As an opening chapter to the works on view in Hall 1.1, she has created a simple soundscape drawn from their conversations and underscored by composers Polyphonia which is played to guests in the pilot fleet of BMW iX5 Hydrogen vehicles.Devlin says: “I learned from the BMW engineers the beautiful symmetry of the system at work within the hydrogen fuel cell: the energy that is used to separate hydrogen atoms from oxygen is recreated when the oxygen is reunited with hydrogen within the car. The by-product is not only the energy which propels the vehicle, but water.”The exterior of the BMW iX5 Hydrogen has been wrapped in a painted blue and white collage in which Devlin overlays paintings and text made in response to the prints and literature which populated her wall and bookshelves as a teenager. Painted gestures echoing the 1831 woodcut ‘The Great Wave off Kanagawa' by Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai, are superimposed over hand written extracts from literature's longest sentence about water drawn from James Joyce's seminal novel ‘Ulysses'. Underlying the collage are excerpts from BMW Group publications on hydrogen fuel cell technology.Artist and Stage Designer, Es Devlin's work explores biodiversity, linguistic diversity and collective ai-generated poetry. She views the audience as a temporary society and encourages profound cognitive shifts by inviting public participation in communal choral works. Her canvas ranges from public sculptures and installations at Tate Modern, V&A, Serpentine, Imperial War Museum and United Nations General Assembly, to kinetic stage designs at the Royal Opera House, the National Theatre and the Metropolitan Opera, as well as Olympic ceremonies, Super-Bowl half-time shows, and monumental illuminated stage sculptures for Beyoncé, The Weeknd, Dr Dre, Kendrick Lamar and U2.Visit: https://EsDevlin.com/ and Follow @EsDevlin and @BMWGroupCulture Hosted on Acast.
