We're asking whether this sequel builds on what came before or simply doubles down on the mayhem. Has the franchise found a fresh direction, or is it relying on familiar gags to keep audiences entertained? We unpack the laughs, the characters and whether this latest chapter proves there's still life in the Despicable Me universe. On a side note we do dive in spoilers but it's very clear when that happens because we do give out a big warning. So if you don't want it spoiled then stay clear of this episode. Mostly Film – Take 238: What's NewJonathan and JP are back for List It or Nix It — Digger, Buddy, Soulm8te, and The Wrong Girls go through the gauntlet. And about that Digger trailer: Tom Cruise, a Southern accent, a pot belly, a combover, and Iñárritu calling it the culmination of Cruise's 40-year career. The Dr. Strangelove comparisons are already flying. Is this the one that gets him the Oscar, or is it too strange for its own good?In What We've Been Watching, Jonathan went deep on the Despicable Me universe (all of it, essentially), plus The Furious, Death of Robin Hood, Kiki's Delivery Service, A Goofy Movie, and Inside Out 2. JP brings Oceans 11, Send Help, The Drama, and The Furious, with House of the Dragon and Silo on the TV side.In the news: Moana opened to $43 million and it's a disaster on a $250 million budget — potentially the worst live-action Disney remake debut ever. Is that era finally over? Toy Story 5 keeps rolling toward a billion. And The Odyssey opens this Friday in IMAX — tracking for $100-120 million, which would make it Nolan's biggest opening ever. Does it have a shot at being his best film?

Mostly Film – Take 236: What's NewIt's a big one this week. Jonathan and JP are back with a mountain of trailers, an absolutely unhinged watch list, and a news cycle that genuinely did not slow down.First, List It or Nix It — fifteen trailers go through the gauntlet this week. Werwulf, Angry Birds 3, Not Alone, The Dink, The Debut, Digger, Her Private Hell, Late Fame, The Weight, Jimmy, Union County, The Devil's Mouth, Mum I'm Alien Pregnant, Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, and Charlie Harper. Yes, all of them. Yes, Mum, I'm Alien Pregnant is real. Then it's What We've Been Watching, and Jonathan went absolutely feral this week — Toy Story 5, Backrooms, Obsession, Gail Daughtry and the Celebrity Sex Pass, The Sheep Detectives, Carolina Caroline, David, and somehow also Despicable Me, Despicable Me 2, Minions, The Borrowers, Ponyo, My Neighbor Totoro, and Honey We Shrunk Ourselves. JP brings Obsession, Backrooms, and Tuner to the table. Between the two of them, a lot of ground gets covered. In the news: The Odyssey had its world premiere in London tonight — Nolan, Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Hathaway, and Pattinson all on the red carpet — and the conversation around the film is complicated. 450,000 trailer dislikes, replies turned off on premiere posts, and it opens in 11 days. Does tonight change anything? Minions & Monsters had a rough July 4th opening, becoming a franchise low domestically while Toy Story 5 just kept eating. The Michael Jackson biopic quietly became the highest-grossing biopic in history. The Avengers: Doomsday trailer is reportedly dropping at SDCC on July 25. And Emmy nominations land tomorrow morning — Harrison Ford might finally be getting his flowers.

Tonight on Damn You Hollywood we review Minions & Monsters (2026), the latest entry in Illumination's billion-dollar franchise and the seventh film overall in the Despicable Me series. Directed by Pierre Coffin and written by Coffin and Brian Lynch, the film features the familiar Minions alongside a voice cast that includes Trey Parker, Allison Janney, Christoph Waltz, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeff Bridges, Zoey Deutch, Bobby Moynihan, and Phil LaMarr. Set in 1927—more than four decades before the events of the first Minions film—the story follows Kevin, Stuart, Bob, and the gang as they head to Old Hollywood with dreams of making their own monster movie. Since the first Minions surprised us with an unexpectedly thoughtful story about purpose, belonging, and finding something larger than oneself to serve, and The Rise of Gru shifted toward a lighter coming-of-age adventure, the question becomes whether this latest prequel recaptures the philosophical weight of the original or settles for slapstick and spectacle. We'll break down the story, animation, performances, themes, and where Minions & Monsters ranks within Illumination's remarkably successful franchise.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

Minions & Monsters is the newest addition to the Despicable Me franchise, but this prequel set the minions loose in 1920s Hollywood. They naturally become superstars in the age of silent film. But, as talkies take over, they struggle to stay relevant — until one of them ends up conjuring some cute but deadly monsters using a dead wizard's old spell book. Lucy Fenwick Elliott speaks to Pierre Coffin, the director of Illumination's new film Minions & Monsters, as well as the voice of the Minions across the Despicable Me and Minions franchises.  Minions & Monsters introduces us to two new faces from an entirely new tribe of Minions, James and Henry. We meet them and their rambunctious friends in the distant past as they search far and wide for an evil master to serve.   Eventually they reach the 1920s, and wind up crashing a Hollywood film set. Their brief and accidental appearance on camera pays off – and before they know it, the Minions are bona-fide movie stars. But their 15 minutes of fame are soon up (they can't follow the script when all they speak is Minionese!) and they find themselves roaming the streets of Hollywood looking for a new, villainous purpose.
But James and Henry have a different plan: they have fallen in love with making movies, and want to make one of their own! With the help of a spell book taken from an evil sorcerer they used to work for, James and Henry summon some fearsome monsters to play the villains in their movie... Subscribe on Apple Podcasts. Looking for a holiday weekend flick to get the kids out of the blazing heat? You could do a lot worse than "Minions & Monsters," the third installment in the "Minions" prequel series and the seventh installment overall in the "Despicable Me" franchise. This time out, circumstances find the Minions in 1920s Hollywood, and they decide to make a monster movie. The pacing and animation are solid in this episode that has a lot of inside jokes for parents who are movie buffs. "Minions & Monsters" delivers exactly the kind of goofy family fun you'd expect. Just in time for the July 4th celebrations, Angel Studios offers the historical drama "Young Washington." Relative newcomer William Franklyn-Miller portrays the founding father in a respectful but underwhelming look at his life before the American Revolution. Washington's ambitions and his strategic blunders in a skirmish with the French are the focus of this well-mounted but superficial biopic. The supporting cast includes familiar faces who bring a gravitas that Franklyn-Miller's performance is missing. Best thing you can say is that "Young Washington" is an easily digestible history lesson. Is the third time the charm for Millie Bobby Brown in the Netflix comic mystery, "Enola Holmes 3?" Light, bright, and easy to digest, “Enola Holmes 3” is a tongue-in-cheek sequel that presents yet another mystery for the sister of Sherlock Holmes, appealingly played by Brown. This time out, Sherlock, played by Henry Cavill, is kidnapped while attending Enola's wedding in Malta. A sprightly feminist YA offering “Enola Holmes 3” floats along nicely thanks to a solid production and an appealing cast.

Wow, it's July! We have a quick little episode to kick off the month and the second half of the year. Here's what we reviewed on the latest Breakfast All Day podcast: MINIONS & MONSTERS. The third Minion movie and the seventh film in the "Despicable Me" franchise is surprisingly hilarious, as those tiny, yellow chaos agents storm Hollywood and invent cinema as we know it. Lots of classic movie references for the adults in the audience and madcap hilarity for everyone, regardless of age. Allison Janney, Trey Parker, Christoph Waltz and Jesse Eisenberg are among the voice cast. In theaters everywhere now. YOUNG WASHINGTON. Before he was the first president of the United States, George Washington was a scrappy upstart with ambitions and mistakes to make. That's the point of this Angel Studios take on the founding father, set in 1755 Virginia. Starring William Franklyn-Miller, Kelsey Grammer, Ben Kingsley and Mary-Louise Parker. Coming soon to a middle school social studies classroom near you, but playing in theaters starting July 3. We'll be back on Friday with a review of "Enola Holmes 3," plus movie news. Jill shared her experience attending a stage production of Shrek at the Muni in St. Louis, where a representative from Mind’s Eye approached their small group of seven attendees to take a picture. Terry mentioned a recent theft involving stolen checks from Madison County Association of the Blind, with one suspect arrested by the Madison County Sheriff for check fraud totaling around $4,000. Keith shared updates about recent activities, including a family picnic where his grandson was the only one to catch a large bass fish, and his Amazon Prime Day purchases including an extra Shocks Open Run Bluetooth headset and Aftershocks wireless charger. He discussed challenges with adding items to their website storefront and mentioned plans to help Robin with an art easel and chalkboard for the kids. Keith also updated the group about having Isaac assist with mowing and brick work around their property, though there were some delays due to Isaac’s orthodontist appointment. News of the Week Terry shared news about a New Zealand amusement park being temporarily closed due to human feces being found in a fernery, despite nearby public restrooms. Jill then discussed a traffic stop in Montana involving a banana-shaped vehicle, which was a modified Ford F-150 truck used for promotional purposes, and the driver was released without a ticket after boxes blocking the license plate were removed. Keith shared a story about a woman who survived a shark attack in Australia, requiring arm amputation, while Jill discussed a separate shark encounter off California’s coast where paddleboarders were stalked by a great white shark that was captured on drone footage. Terry then told a story about 7-year-old Skyler Whitaker who broke a Guinness World Record by wearing 50 sweaters simultaneously at a Pennsylvania library, with the sweaters to be donated to a fall sweater drive. Made up Movie Review We resurrect a shortened version of one of our old segments. The group discussed three potential movie titles: “40 Days and 40 Nights,” “Enola Holmes 3,” and “Minions and Monsters.” They identified “40 Days and 40 Nights” as likely being a biblical story involving Noah’s ark or Jesus’s fasting, while “Enola Holmes 3” was determined to be a detective movie sequel featuring a female detective. The third option, “Minions and Monsters,” was confirmed to be an animated sequel to “Despicable Me” from the Illumination studio. Hey, are movie reviews may not match the official description. Just remember that hours are always right, or they should be. Jill's Trivia Game Jill hosted a movie trivia quiz about Back to the Future, asking questions about key plot elements, character names, and dialogue from the film. Both Keith and Terry participated, with Terry scoring one correct answer while Keith got several questions right including the flux capacitor and the “Enchantment Under the Sea” dance name. (I don't know what our AI companion is talking about scoring points, since we never keep track, because they never matter anyway!) Terry's Top 10 List after a few moments of technology trouble with Terry's device, he finally shares his list. They then reviewed a list of awkward female moments that Terry had compiled, including topics like crumbs in cleavage, wrap skirts, and texting mistakes. Anchor Topic This is the part of our show where we talk about blindness related topics. Keith led a discussion about managing apps and organizing content on phones and computers, sharing tips on how to find and organize notes and apps effectively. Terry and Jill discussed their own experiences with app organization and storage, with Keith suggesting strategies for cleaning up unused apps. Email and Final Thoughts Keith shared a story about overheard nuns purchasing beer, with one nun claiming it was for washing hair, leading to a cashier’s quick response about pretzels and curlers. Keith then shared an email from Theresa Madison about showing her Texas cousin Niagara Falls, with the cousin responding that Texas has a plumber who can fix it. Keith shared a humorous voicemail story about a listeners dog named “Sex” and the various embarrassing situations it caused him, including at city hall, during his wedding, on honeymoon, and in a contest. The story concluded with Keith reflecting on how the dog had caused him more trouble than he anticipated and considering getting a different dog with a better name. Keith shares a final voicemail about the strange neighbors a young woman has when she moved to her first apartment. As usual we wrap everything up with our final thoughts. The final word from our AI companion The meeting appeared to be a podcast recording session where Keith, Terry, and Jill shared jokes and funny stories. Keith read a story about strange neighbors, and the group took turns telling knock-knock jokes and other humor. Welcome to Multiverse News, your source for information about all your favorite fictional universes.Everyone's forgotten Peter Parker…or have they? Sony gave us a second full trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day and the interwebs are buzzing about it. We get longer looks at Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner/Hulk and Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle/Punisher in the film, as well as allusions to the big bad of the movie - though Tom Holland recently said on the press tour that the antagonist has not been figured out yet by fans. Films continue to top each other's openings at the box office this year, with Toy Story 5 having the current title of best opening of the year to the tune of $160 million domestically over the Father's Day weekend. This was also the all-time best opening for the 30-year-old franchise. Disclosure Day took second place this weekend, though Toy Story practically beat its global take in the states alone, and Obsession and Backrooms continue their strong streaks coming in at third and fourth respectively.Universal and Blumhouse's Atomic Monster are jumping on the Curry Barker bandwagon having acquired the young director's third film in a reported eight figure deal. While Universal has been backing Barker, both Obsession and his upcoming film Anything But Ghosts are coming from Focus Features. Blumhouse has produced those same films, but this new move puts the horror powerhouse in a stronger position for film development. To tag onto the box office talk and remind you, Obsession was made for $750,000 and has now made more than $300 million worldwide - making it a tantalizing prospect for Blumhouse.Netflix has opted not to proceed with a second season of The Boroughs, a sci-fi TV series executive produced by Stranger Things creators The Duffer Brothers. The ultimate yellow mayhem is back! Minions Movie Reaction — First Time Watching! With Minions & Monsters hitting theaters this summer, Roxy & John are going back to the beginning of the Minions' solo movie chaos with Minions, the 2015 Illumination prequel that follows Kevin, Stuart, and Bob before Gru! As the Minions and Monsters movie trailer brings the little yellow agents of chaos back for a brand-new 2026 adventure, this Minions 2015 full movie reaction revisits the origin of the Minions, their search for the most despicable master in history, and the rise of one of Illumination's biggest animated franchises. In this Roxy and John Minions reaction and Minions movie review, they react to Kevin, Stuart, and Bob leaving the tribe, the Minions banana song, Villain-Con, Scarlet Overkill, Herb Overkill, Queen Elizabeth, King Bob, the London chase, giant Kevin, and the young Gru ending that connects everything back to Despicable Me. From the stacked voice cast with Sandra Bullock, Jon Hamm, Michael Keaton, Allison Janney, Steve Coogan, Jennifer Saunders, and Geoffrey Rush to the 60s soundtrack, slapstick comedy, banana chaos, and Scarlet Overkill movie scenes, this First Time Watching Minions reaction sets up the perfect comparison between Minions 1 vs Minions and Monsters. Roxy & John also discuss the New Minions movie 2026, the Minions and Monsters full trailer, Illumination's Minions and Monsters, and how this Reel Rejects Minions watch-along fits into the road toward Minions & Monsters 2026 release hype. John & Roxy react to Despicable Me for the first time as our classic animated movie reaction journey continues with the Illumination movie that launched Gru, the Minions, and one of the biggest animated franchises ever! With the new Minions & Monsters movie arriving later this year, it felt like the perfect time to finally dive into the film that started it all. This Despicable Me movie reaction follows Gru's plan to steal the moon, his rivalry with Vector, Dr. Nefario's wild inventions, the Bank of Evil, cookie robots, shrink rays, and the chaotic first appearance of the Minions. In this Illumination Despicable Me reaction and Despicable Me full movie review, John & Roxy break down Steve Carell's hilarious performance as Gru, Jason Segel as Vector, Kristen Wiig, Miranda Cosgrove, Julie Andrews, Russell Brand, and the surprisingly emotional story of Margo, Edith, and Agnes changing Gru's heart. From “It's so fluffy!” to the unicorn book, Super Silly Fun Land, the moon heist, and the Despicable Me ending breakdown where Gru finally becomes a real dad, this movie ended up being way more charming, funny, and heartfelt than expected. It also serves as a great reminder of why audiences fell in love with Gru and the Minions before all the sequels, spin-offs, and upcoming adventures expanded the franchise. A long-awaited threequel to our episodes on Wallace & Gromit and legendary film Chicken Run, our discussion on the final DreamWorks & Aardman collaborative feature film Flushed Away feels somewhat bittersweet to Alex, resident Aardman enjoyer, who laments that perhaps the soul of the Aardman way is lost on this film's exclusively CGI production. But it's perhaps the opposite for Iris, who finds herself joining Marcus and Michael as a member of the awful-early-2000s-animated-movie-enjoyers on this episode, and to be completely honest there's quite a bit to praise about this box-office bomb: it's still got that trademark British humor, its voice cast is superb, the characters are refreshingly mature and intelligent as they navigate their issues, and the slugs perform an ingenious role in this film that Despicable Me's Minions will never come close to mimicking. Perhaps next time we'll be recording from the UK! Content warning: SPOILERS, strong language.

Paranoid American joins us on Wake the Dead for the first time. He is a talented artist and creator of 'conspiracy' themed comic books. He used to work for the mass mind control known as Disney as an animator. His years of being in the business and deep knowledge of all the conspiracy rabbitholes makes him a wonderful guest. We discuss the film Despicable Me and it's symbolic elements as well as the wider genre of children's cartoons. We discuss how films like these can so easily captivate their young viewers. Children are the easiest to fool and these images build the child's view of the world they will grow up in. If they want to program the future slaves, they need to push the symbols into their heads while they're young.Find Paranoid American here:https://paranoidamerican.comhttps://www.patreon.com/cw/ParanoidAmericanhttps://www.amazon.com/stores/Paranoid-American/author/B09N2W1JPN?ccs_id=ce4d782b-bd58-4ea8-ba61-6e2e8a716638https://www.youtube.com/@ParanoidAmericanhttps://rumble.com/c/c-3337772https://x.com/ParanoidAmericahttps://www.instagram.com/ParanoidAmericanIn this Christmas season, please consider donating to Sean McCann and Wake the Dead!https://onegreatworknetwork.com/sean-mccann/donate/BTC (bitcoin) address: 3Ptmi463Pu6HH1duop7rCKaxBriQkb4inahttps://www.buymeacoffee.com/wakethedeadhttps://www.paypal.com/paypalme/seanmccannabisVisit Wake the Dead's store!https://wakethedead.creator-spring.com/Find Sean McCann on X:https://twitter.com/SeanWakeTheDeadJoin the Wake the Dead telegram:https://t.me/wakethedeadpodcastJoin the Wake the Dead guilded server:https://www.guilded.gg/i/kJWaQzmp

Welcome to another episode of Death Don't Do Fiction, the AIPT Movies podcast! The podcast about the enduring legacy of our favorite movies! It's September, so that means it's time for our “Mechtember” series, where we cover movies involving all things robotic!! In this week's episode, Alex, Tim, and guest Bill Mueller discuss Keita Amemiya's 1995 robo-showdown, Mechanical Violator Hakaider!Mechanical violation! Awkward sound mixing! A glowing brain! Cool, glowing hands! An evil, robotic Angel! Excessive use of smoke! Dramatic flower burning! Subtext so overt it's effectively hypertext! Amazing use of dummies! Soldiers that look like the Minions from Despicable Me! Imaginative use of an 80s panel van! Extreme head violence! Bleeding walls! Unexpected arm removal! All this and more in a movie that's possibly TOO ambitious, with incredible designs and special effects, that feels like it was made for fans of RoboCop, Power Rangers, and The Guyver! In addition, Bill shares his spoiler-free thoughts on the original Terminator, while Alex does the same for 1989's Tango & Cash, and the Hong Kong action classics, the Iron Angels trilogy! You can find Death Don't Do Fiction on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. As always, if you enjoy the podcast, be sure to leave us a positive rating, subscribe to the show, and tell your friends! The Death Don't Do Fiction podcast brings you the latest in movie news, reviews, and more! Joe Ochman is an American actor who is most active in voice over roles in various animation shows, films, and video games. He is the fourth and current voice of Jiminy Cricket since 2014.Within a mural of a Ghorlectipod, or Ghorman spider from the planet Ghorman, if one looks closely, the body of the spider is the face of an iconic Star Wars villain - Darth Maul. X (formerly Twitter) user Jammin333 noted that the mosaic design is a deliberate homage to Darth Maul.“Andor production designer Luke Hull shared one of the gorgeous Ghorlectipod spider mosaics from the Ghorman cafe. This one appears to embody Darth Maul, who at one point in The Clone Wars became half cyber-spider. Love the design details down to the inverted crescent moon chin,” Jammin333 said in their post.During the Saturday update, Rebirth received another prediction, with the film looking at a worldwide opening of $312.5 million, ahead of the initial projection of $260 million. That leads to the second-biggest global opening of the year, just behind A Minecraft Movie, which dangerously neared $1 billion and ended its run at $953.1 million, and ahead of Lilo & Stitch, which is soon set to surpass the former as it has already grossed $951.5 million worldwide.Rebirth won't have the biggest opening in the Jurassic franchise, as it trails behind Jurassic World's $525 million. The film also has the second-best offshore opening so far, behind the Chinese animation Ne Zha 2, and ahead of Lilo & Stitch. Jurassic World Rebirth also had the best Fourth of July haul for a No. 1 film post-COVID-19, and it outranked 2024's Despicable Me 4.

Pharrell Williams is—well, let me just say, he's a big reason why Song Exploder exists. He's a singer, songwriter and producer, and in the 90s, when I first heard the work that he was doing with the Neptunes, which was his production duo with Chad Hugo, it blew my mind. It made me want to know where those sounds came from and where those ideas came from. Pharrell has won 13 Grammys. He's been nominated for two Oscars. He's produced iconic songs for Kendrick Lamar, Britney Spears, Clipse, Gwen Stefani, and so many others. And on his own, he's made songs like “Happy,” the giant hit for Despicable Me that was the best-selling song of 2014. And now, there's a movie about his life called Piece by Piece. But it's an animated Lego film. For this episode, I talked to Pharrell about the title song from Piece By Piece. So, coming up, you'll hear how Pharrell built that song, including a first draft that never saw the light of day. You'll hear how he built “Piece by Piece” by programming it, on his own, with MIDI instruments, and then adding and replacing those parts with other musicians, including the high school marching band that he used to play in. For more, visit songexploder.net/pharrell.
