In this episode of Harder Than Life, Kelly Siegel sits down with Dan Sachkowski for a real conversation about leadership, discipline, and taking responsibility for your outcomes. Dan shares lessons from navigating adversity, building standards that don't fluctuate, and why most people stay stuck blaming circumstances instead of owning results. Fake It Till You Make It... or Do It Till You True It?In this episode, we challenge one of the most common self-help mantras: “Fake it till you make it.” Instead, we explore a more sustainable, honest, and empowering approach—“Do it until you true it.”Through personal stories, psychological insight, and practical advice, we break down why faking confidence can sometimes do more harm than good, and how small steps can lead to real transformation.Top Topics Covered:The Problem with Faking It: We talk about how pretending to know something can lead to broken trust, missed opportunities, and internal stress, especially when the stakes are high. The Power of Small Steps: Real confidence is earned through repeated actions. Whether it's learning first aid or public speaking, each small action builds a foundation for long-term success.Psychological Frameworks: We explore concepts like cognitive behavioral theory, James-Lange theory, and Bandura's idea of self-efficacy to support why behavior can shape belief.Honesty vs. Performance: There's a fine line between boldness and deception. We discuss how to be honest about your capabilities while still stepping up to new challenges.Takeaways:This episode reminds us that confidence isn't a magic switch—it's something you build. You don't need to fake your way into anything. You just need to take the next honest, actionable step. Whether you're tackling a new role at work, facing anxiety, or just trying to grow in life, the habit of small, intentional actions will carry you farther than any performance ever could. “Do it until you true it” means showing up, learning, growing—and in time, becoming the kind of person you once only hoped to be.Jill's Linkshttp://jillfromthenorthwoods.comhttps://startwithsmallsteps.comhttps://www.youtube.com/@startwithsmallstepshttps://www.buymeacoffee.com/startwithsmallstepshttps://twitter.com/schmernEmail the podcast at jill@startwithsmallsteps.comBy choosing to watch this video or listen to this podcast, you acknowledge that you are doing so of your own free will. How do you manage patients that have ultra high expectations? What's the best way to communicate cosmetic outcomes before the final result? How do you balance your aesthetic vision with what they see? Dr. Brandon Mack joins Jaz for a deep dive into the realities of cosmetic dentistry—from subjective perceptions of beauty to practical tips that make or break a case. They discuss how to navigate aesthetic stress, manage patient expectations, and even go into Brandon's favorite veneer cement and occlusal philosophy. Plus, Brandon shares key failures that shaped his journey—and how you can avoid the same pitfalls. https://youtu.be/s7puDNP3d7U Watch PDP231 on YouTube Protrusive Dental Pearl: When discussing smile design with patients, especially in high-end cosmetic cases, set the right expectations early by using this memorable “Eyebrow Analogy”: Central incisors = Twins (they should be as symmetrical as possible) Lateral incisors = Sisters (not identical, but related) Canines = Cousins (more individual) This helps patients understand that perfect symmetry isn't always natural or necessary — especially for lateral incisors! Key Takeaways Cosmetic dentistry as a lens through which all treatment should be approached—balancing patient autonomy with ethical care. Managing expectations begins before the patient sits in the chair. It continues through structured checkpoints: from initial consultation to provisional feedback and final delivery. Temps aren't just placeholders—they are test drives. They align expectations between the dentist, patient, and lab, reducing surprises and improving satisfaction. Some dentists may under-diagnose due to fear of rejection—not out of true minimalism. Thoughtful planning can make “more treatment” actually less invasive. Patients often want teeth that are both ultra-white and natural-looking. Brandon developed the concept of believability—a visual balance that delivers a wow-factor while still appearing real. Creating a mathematically perfect smile can make natural facial asymmetries more obvious. Dentists must weigh beauty against harmony. Social media and filters have distorted patient self-perception. Dentists must learn to identify signs of body or tooth dysmorphia and respond ethically—not just clinically. Building relationships with ceramists over time—expecting 15–20 cases before finding synergy. Each technician has unique strengths and should be matched accordingly. Composite veneers are accessible and beautiful—but extremely technique-sensitive. You become the ceramist. Brandon admires them but uses them selectively due to long-term maintenance concerns. Panavia Veneer Cement – Translucent for its predictable handling, strength, and minimal risk to thin ceramic restorations. The Power of Positive Delusion: A Path to Success and Personal GrowthPositive delusion, often referred to as "delulu" in modern slang, is the practice of holding onto beliefs that are not necessarily grounded in reality but can serve as powerful motivators for personal growth and success. Here's how embracing a delusional mindset can lead to positive outcomes: Definition: Positive delusion involves believing in oneself and one's abilities beyond what might be considered realistic or logical. It's about maintaining an unshakable belief in your potential for success, even when faced with adversity or odds that seem stacked against you. Types: Positive illusions include inflated self-assessment, unrealistic optimism about the future, and an illusion of control, as outlined by Taylor and Brown in their 1988 paper on mental health. Motivation and Persistence: Believing in your success can provide the motivation needed to persist through challenges. Studies show that individuals who overestimate their abilities tend to perform better, learn skills more effectively, and achieve more goals than those with a more realistic or pessimistic outlook3. Stress Management and Resilience: Positive delusions can help individuals cope with stress and trauma, fostering resilience and a higher quality of life. For example, cancer survivors often report a better quality of life than those who have never had cancer, attributing this to their ability to maintain positive beliefs4. Self-Confidence and Self-Esteem: Positive delusions can boost self-confidence, which is crucial for taking action and pursuing goals. This confidence can lead to a more positive mood and better mental health4. Manifestation of Desires: Delusion can be seen as a form of manifestation, where visualizing and believing in a desired outcome can help bring it into reality. This aligns with the law of attraction, where positive thoughts attract positive experiences7. Visualization: Imagine yourself succeeding and overcoming obstacles. Visualization is a powerful tool for creating a positive delusion that can guide your actions towards success3. Reframing Adversity: View challenges as opportunities for growth. This mindset shift can unlock hidden potential and foster resilience5. Cultivating Unwavering Belief: Develop a strong belief in yourself, even in the face of setbacks. This belief can keep you focused and driven5. Positive Self-Talk: Limit negative self-talk and replace it with positive affirmations. This can enhance your motivation and self-esteem3. Embrace the "Fake It Till You Make It" Philosophy: Act as if you are already successful, which can lead to actual success through the power of belief and action9. Inspiring Others: Your positive delusions can inspire those around you, creating a cycle of motivation and growth that benefits not just you but your community5.Positive delusion, when used wisely, can be a key to unlocking personal growth, success, and resilience. By believing in ourselves beyond what might be considered realistic, we can harness the power of our thoughts to shape our reality. This approach requires a balance, ensuring that delusions remain positive and do not veer into harmful territory. Remember, as Eleanor Roosevelt said, "The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams." By embracing a delusional mindset, we can turn those dreams into reality, one step at a time. The Concept of Positive DelusionBenefits of Positive DelusionStrategies for Embracing Positive DelusionThe Ripple EffectConclusion

Whether it's the Forbidden series, Fiery Fairy Tales, The Bachelors of Shell Cove, you're sure to find plenty of heat, humor, and a rollercoaster of emotions. Dubbed a "Hallmarky romance with a little extra heat" by author Lizzie Shane, London's latest book, Fake It Till You Make It, is no exception. In it, we meet Amarie Walker, who has just left her cheating ex and her entire D.C. life in the rearview. It's not long after crash landing in a small town with no money, no plans, and no job, that Amarie meets certified veterinarian (and certified grump) Eli Calvary. He may not be cracking many smiles but his animal clinic is the only gig for miles. The only problem? The practice Eli inherited from his father is in financial trouble and when he needs to invent an investor on the fly, it's Amarie's name that comes to his lips! Welcome to the Angus Warburton podcast! In this episode, I'm happy to have a conversation with my very special guest, Izzy Utterson, who shares her inspiring journey of self-discovery and overcoming obstacles. Izzy opens up about her teenage years, where she struggled with self-esteem and placed her worth solely on her appearance. After being diagnosed with psoriasis, a skin condition that caused her to cover her body, she learned to value herself for other reasons beyond her looks, such as being kind, hardworking, and successful. Throughout the conversation, Izzy shares valuable advice for those struggling with body image issues, emphasizing the importance of self-love and valuing oneself for reasons beyond appearance. She also touches on how she overcame impostor syndrome and the importance of having a strong support system to remind you of your strengths and achievements when self-doubt creeps in. We also discuss the significance of self-belief in achieving your goals, taking things one step at a time, and being patient. We emphasize that seeking validation from others is not the path to happiness or success, and encourage listeners to focus on doing things for themselves and finding joy in the process. Tune in to this episode for an empowering conversation on self-love, self-belief, and finding joy in the journey. How do we reach people with the gospel? By living authentically for Christ. "Fake It Till You Make It" is an easy mindset to fall into, but isn't living honestly for Christ. Journey artist Colton Dixon joins Mercedes from Middays on her podcast "And The Artist Is..." to talk about just that and how to tell the difference between fake moments and authentic ones.

"Fake It Till You Make It" doesn't work. To gain confidence, you must do hard things. If you read a lot of business or self-help books, it can be tempting to think you can do most anything. You can't know that until you have evidence you can. It's worth doing hard things for yourself. That's what builds confidence.

Does "fake it till you make it" really work? What a debate we had on this one. What does that mean and can it change you? What it does "apple stapling" mean? You can't just replace the rotten apples and expect a healthy tree. All this and more as we challenge each other and especially Jeff.
