Hey everyone, welcome back to another episode of Money Grows On Trees: The Podcast! I'm your host, Lloyd Ross, and today's topic is going to blow your mind. We're diving deep into the question: Is Being "BUSY" Keeping You Broke? I know, I know, it sounds crazy, but trust me, this is a mindset that so many of us fall into without even realizing it. In my book, Money Buys Happiness, I actually touch on this concept of the "busy badge" and how it can hinder our wealth-building journey. But here's the thing, being busy doesn't necessarily mean you're being productive, and working hard doesn't automatically translate to wealth. In fact, some of the wealthiest individuals in the world are actually incredibly protective of their time and spend it on very high-value tasks. On the other hand, there are people who are constantly busy but are living paycheck to paycheck, struggling to make ends meet. So, in this episode, we're going to dissect the busy money mindset and explore why it's actually keeping so many people broke. We'll talk about the identities we attach to being busy, the illusion of productivity, and the security blanket that busyness provides us. Plus, I'll share some insights on how to redefine your relationship with busyness and leverage your time to create wealth. Trust me, folks, this episode is going to challenge everything you thought you knew about being busy and its impact on your financial success. So, grab your headphones, get ready to have your mind blown, and let's dive right in! Money Grows on Trees Team
Manisha Thakor is the author of the new book, MoneyZen: The Secret to Finding Your "Enough" and is on the show discussing ways we can solve this money-happiness paradox and learn to build that essential base layer of “emotional wealth.” Moneyzen draws on science and the stories of wide range of multidisciplinary experts from all walks of life to show how to rip off your "Busy Badge" to put meaning back into your life, eradicate the soul-destroying belief that “Self-worth = Net worth" and escape life as a human doing and return to your natural state as a human being. Way too often I check in with friends and family many respond with, "I'm Good! I'm Just Busy!" The Busy Badge is worn with pride! But why? Trust me, I've been there, and it's not pretty. That feeling of burnout, lacking energy, and trying to juggle a million things at once! It's no wonder we often neglect our own well-being, but if there's one thing I've learned, it's that making yourself a priority is a must, especially when it comes to exercise and nutrition. However, the truth is, taking care of yourself is not a luxury, it's a necessity. So, let's dive into some fun and simple ways to prioritize yourself, starting with exercise. It's a crazy world out there. We all seem to be busy all the time. But we associate the word busy with productive. We wear the busy badge on our sleeves as a stamp of honor to say “look at me! Look how much I'm doing”. But what is it that we are missing out on. What is it that you are “too busy” for. Listen in. Begin The Duel, Win The DaySupport the show

When someone asks how you are, is your automatic response to say "busy" even if you aren't more busy than normal? Today, we talk about wearing the busy badge and if it is affecting your happiness. Transcript: Welcome to Everyday Happiness where we create lasting happiness, in about 2 minutes a day, through my signature method of Intentional Margins® (creating harmony between your to-dos and your priorities), happiness science, and musings about life. I'm your host Katie Jefcoat and I was wondering, does busyness make us happier? I've been wondering if being busy is part of our ego trying to tell us that we are important, people want to hear from us or they need us. Of course, doing for others and kindness will increase happiness, there is a ton of science to back this up, but I'm wondering if we've created a culture of being busy for the sake of being busy. You know what I mean? You bump into a friend and they ask how you are? You say “busy” and you probably feel busy .. but why? Why do we feel so busy and is it truly bringing us happiness? In the same sense, maybe you don't feel busy, but you say it anyway, it's the reaction, you have some margin, but you also have a lot going on, but you still say “busy”. I do this all the time. I'm actually not that busy. But my initial reaction is to say “busy”. Is my busyness more important than your busyness… why are we doing this? I wonder if it's cultural, does this idea that women are running around busy need to change? I started trying to stop myself, when I heard the word “busy” come out of my mouth, I started to rephrase with abundant or fulfilled or just simply answering the question, I'm good. Or whatever I'm actually feeling. I invite you to try it on for size. Reject the urge to say busy, or just be aware how much we're saying it and do a little re-frame in your mind. I think you'll be like me, and find that not using the busy badge might make you just a tiny bit happier. How many times a week do you catch yourself saying “Oh no I can't do that, I'm too busy”? In this episode of the Oh For Food's Sake Podcast, we're not going to tell you that you actually do have the time. Instead, we're sharing the message that being busy isn't a badge of honour and that you can survive (or even thrive) without being busy all the time.We explore the social and psychological forces that drive our chronic busyness and how the pressures of working in the food industry can exacerbate the busyness phenomenon. Then we share our top tips to tackle busyness, from delegating tasks at work and in the home, to taking time to rest and reflect on our internal values. If this episode makes you want to drop your busy badge of honour, head over to our Facebook page and tell us about your anti-busyness pledge! Have you thought that maybe if you just woke up earlier, stayed up later, or hustled a little more you would be more productive? I promise you that none of those techniques are sustainable or even work. Being busy doesn't equal productivity. You could easily fill up your days running around as fast as you can doing all the tasks… And after weeks still not be productive in what matters most to you. Productivity is really about doing the right tasks, in the right order, and in the most efficient way possible. This conversation with Bianca Chatfield was quite different to our previous TYP encounters. It seems that our high-performing (ex)Elite Athlete, TV Host, Sports Commentator, Corporate Speaker, Author and one-time Reality TV Person (The Block) has recognised that busy-ness and box-ticking might not always be the best strategy. After an interesting year, it's a much more reflective, contemplative and vulnerable Bianca who sits down to chat this time. I think this is my favourite chat with her.@biancachatfield

As the founder of More Soul Please, Alison Ellison, a (soulful) simplicity strategist teaches others how to shift from living a busy “stressedOUT” life-style into creating an authentic “stressLESS” soul-style. Alison woke up to the realization that she needed to understand why she believed “a fast paced life equaled a successful life” when she found herself burned out, stressed out and checked out. This led to slowing down and adopting a “less is more” philosophy. During this time, Alison learned her own personal soul story did not reflect the life she had created and through the simple steps she now teaches, her entire belief system shifted to reflect a life of soulful simplicity, life simplified. This shift took place through a process of clearing out the physical, spiritual and mental “clutter” then teaching the body, mind and spirit to work together at a deeply soulful level. From this place, More Soul Please was born. Alison currently teaches, writes, speaks and coaches others how to let go of the chaos of a hectic life and adopt a soulfully simple life. Can we all agree to tear off our Busy Badges and chill out a little. Life is only as hectic as you make it. If you find yourself living in constant overwhelm, it’s because you are allowing that to happen. Let’s all start taking Radical Responsibility for our time and our priorities. And for goodness sake, stop indulging your ego by telling others how busy you are. When I started taking Radical Responsibility for my busyness, I became a LOT less busy. I was able to slow down and simplify my life in a number of ways. I no longer wear my Busy Badge. I tore it off and stomped on it until it was no longer recognizable. Here are 7 secrets to help you slow down & simplify: Meal Plan – do not be a slave to the 4:45pm “what’s for dinner” trap. Listen in to hear my top tips on how to make meals suuuuper simple forever. Time Block Chores – stop doing chores everyday. Yep, I’m giving you permission. It’s a waste of your time and an energy drain. Listen in to hear how to do less laundry and less bathroom cleaning (and stop dusting!) Divide & Conquer – you are not the only capable person in your family or your neighborhood or your children’s school. Listen it to hear how to enlist help and support. Social Boundaries – Your kids have social boundaries at school, right. There is a time for play and a time for work and a time to chill. You should have the same at home, especially on the weekends. A go-go-go lifestyle is not good for your kids or for you. Listen in to hear how to create some rules around your social calendar. Stop Over Scheduling – you and your kids don’t need to be involved in everything. It doesn’t make them more well rounded. It doesn’t make you more important. It just makes everyone a little more nutty. For real. Stop. Listen in to hear how to pick and choose activities. Quality Quiet Time – this is my best secret. You have to do it. I promise you’ll thank me. Outsource (groceries, yard work, laundry) – free up mental space and create more time and energy by getting help. It doesn’t have to be expensive. Listen in for cheap tips! If you can follow any of these 7 steps, you will: free up mental space reduce decision fatigue create space for peace and calm model good habits to your kids tear off your Busy Badge
