Most content teams treat a finished report as a checkbox, when it should be the starting batter. In this episode of Content Amplified, Pat McParland, VP of Marketing at MetricStream, makes the case for getting back to basics and making every asset work harder. She walks through the ABCDE framework she learned at a former company (Audience, Behavior, Content, Design, Evaluation) and why so many teams skip straight to the design, the video or the ebook, before they have settled who they are talking to and what they want to say. Then she unveils her own Bisquick theory: messaging is the baking mix, and from one core asset like a survey or report you make the cookies, the cakes, the muffins, the infographic, the webinar, the videos, the live event. Pat calls AI the easy bake oven that finally brings the theory to life, and she leans on Claude to turn one asset into many formats. She also offers a caution worth keeping: AI can run a stinky process more efficiently, but it is still a stinky process, so go back to basics first. She closes with her Three Rocks principle for staying focused.About PatPat McParland is a lifetime B2B marketer with more than 30 years of experience, almost all of it in business information and technology. She has worked at companies ranging from startups under 30 people to giants like Dun and Bradstreet, Dow Jones, and Honeywell, and is now VP of Marketing at MetricStream, a governance, risk, and compliance company. A self-described storyteller who started reading at four and writing books for her dad soon after, she believes the fundamentals of content have not changed in 35 years, even as the tools around them have. How to create a hard working team to deliver more is about creating motivating ENVIRONMENTS rather than increasing pressure. More team hours worked often does not move the “value produced” dial much UNLESS you combine it with another important action. I share 4 approaches that motivate your team to work hard because they WANT to work hard --- --- The goals and expectations you set for a team determine how hard they will work. It is like telling a runner they have a race the next day or telling a runner they have a 10km race the next day and they need to finish it within 45mins. Goals drive planning, which in turn drives work levels. Goals are part of the picture to persuade your team to work hard. There is a art to setting goals. Setting any arbitrary goal won't motivate and might even be de-motivating. You want your team to WANT to work harder. Trying to force them or pressurise them to work hard rarely works on its own. If fact you often get less work i.e. it is counterproductive. A hard working team that creates a lot of value chooses to work hard. A team will only work as hard as its manager. If you don't work hard, there is zero chance of your team working hard. What you WORK ON is just as important. Show you are working for the team rather than for you. The leader of a team has a HUGE influence on the success of a team. The leader creates the environment, the rules and the expectations. It is like a micro-climate within a larger climate (or company culture). There is a ton of thing you can do to push your team to work harder while motivating them, keeping them very happy, and significantly increasing the value produced by the team. Finally, nothing stops a person working harder than when they feel unfairly treated. Balance is really important. In fact, the best managers offer slightly more to the team than they ask from the team. If you have any questions on “How to Create a Hard Working Team WITHOUT Demotivating Or Upsetting”, leave email me at support@enhance.training and I will get back to you. Jess Coles Enhance.training
The most bizarre postgame press conference in OHL history was followed up by one of the most sincere apologies we've ever heard. Not buying it? Farwell and Dan are all in on Barrie Colts head coach Dylan Smoskowitz and the ice water in the veins of Kashawn Aitcheson. The question is, can it possibly be enough for a battered Barrie team who may have won their championship in a comeback win over Brantford. Let's talk emotional capital. Meantime, the sale in Owen Sound is a done deal, there's another sale of an OHL team looming, and changes to the Import Draft promise to bring more talent into the league we love. The guys have it all, plus trade winds from Sarnia, reaction to your emails, and your weekly Performer of the Week. The OHL Podcast is supported by Draft Kings Sports Book. Are law firms making the most of their technology investment? Most businesses only use a fraction of the capability of their existing technology, underestimating what platforms such as Microsoft 365 or their case management systems can already do. As a result, firms often purchase overlapping software that performs similar functions, increasing cost and complexity without delivering real value. Its a pet subject for legal technology consultants Stephen Lucas and Mike Taylor who join Today's Conveyancer Podcast host David Opie for this latest episode exploring how law firms can improve efficiency, reduce duplication, and understand the “art of the possible” when it comes to legal tech, automation and AI.The first part of that process involves understanding what systems are in place, what the firm actually needs to achieve, and where simple changes or integrations can unlock efficiencies. Poor technology decisions are often made because firms do not clearly define their requirements before engaging with vendors. Sales processes can oversell functionality, leading to costly long-term contracts and difficult system migrations. In the age of artificial intelligence, both are advocates of robotic process automation (RPA) as a practical solution for interoperability and automation; helping where systems cannot easily integrate. RPA allows “robots” to replicate human actions, logging into portals, copying and pasting data, triggering workflows, at far greater speed and accuracy. Tasks that might take a member of staff ten minutes can often be completed in under a minute, without errors, and even run outside office hours. By eliminating repetitive administrative tasks, firms not only save money but also reduce risk, improve compliance, and free staff to focus on higher-value work. Importantly automation does not typically lead to resistance from employees. Instead, staff often welcome it, as it removes frustrating and monotonous tasks from their daily workload. When it comes to AI closed, UK-hosted AI environments, rather than the large language models like ChatGPT, CoPilot and Claude, that allow firms to benefit from document summarisation, case analysis and risk identification without exposing confidential information. And rather than trying to do everything all at once, a process-driven approach will yield better results; mapping the end-to-end legal workflow, identifying pain points, and introducing technology incrementally.Ultimately, say Lucas and Taylor, firms don't need to be spending thousands of pounds on new technology; rather they should be focusing on maximising the functionality of existing technology with simple interconnectivity solutions. October 5, 2016Adam and Drew open up the show discussing the realities of getting older and how phantom pain tends to be creeping in where it never would've before. They then recall an episode of Loveline wherein Kelly Osborne claimed to be an expert in a topic while being unable to answer even the most basic questions on that topic. The Osbourne conversation gives way to a bit of a left turn into talking about heavy metal music before the guys go to the phones and speak with a caller whose brother is a severe substance abuser with a young daughter he is concerned for.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

What does a wrestling mat have to teach us about how to live? More than you might think. In this episode, Bill sits down with Nick B., a high school wrestling coach and teacher from Monroe, Michigan, who's spent seven years building not just a competitive program — but a culture of character. With 28 athletes on his roster and a coaching philosophy built around core values and pillars like honor, accountability, gratitude, and "iron sharpens iron," Nick is in the business of making better people, not just better wrestlers. Nick and Bill dig into what it really means to compete — and why wrestling, as a combat sport where no one is coming to save you, is one of the purest metaphors for life. They talk about the discipline of habits, the identity shift behind James Clear's Atomic Habits, the danger of multitasking (and why deep focus wins), and why changing "I have to" to "I get to" can flip your entire experience of hard things. Nick also gets honest about failure — his own jujitsu losses, running a surprise half-marathon with a wrestler at midnight, and what it's like to put yourself back in the arena as a coach so you never forget what your athletes feel. Plus: dating without expectations, the power of morning anchors, and a banner on the wall that says everything — Nobody Cares. Work Harder. Despite what we're told, websites are not obsolete. Curators still look at them. Gallerists still look at them. Collectors still look at them. Commissioners still look at them. Quietly. Carefully. Often before they ever contact you. Your website is where people go when they're deciding whether to take you seriously. Social media shows momentum. Websites show coherence. If your website feels overwhelming, messy, neglected, or like a project you keep putting off, that doesn't mean you're behind. It usually means you've skipped a step. Most artists jump straight to design. Templates. Platforms. Fonts. Colours. And they do it before they've made the harder, quieter decisions. What actually belongs on here? What am I ready to stand behind? What story am I telling now, not five years ago? So, today´s episode isn't about redesigning your website. It's about preparing for it. KEY TAKEAWAYS Artist websites still matter - curators, gallerists, commissioners, and collectors actually use them. Your website isn't dead. It's quietly doing its job when the right people are paying attention. Your website is not a performance space, but a catalogue of your strongest thinking. It is not an archive. This is a selection of your best work - If someone only ever saw this work, they should understand the kind of artist you are. I don't want anyone landing on your site and thinking, well, now what? So, decide before you design how people can connect with you. This episode is about deciding what needs to be included on your site. The next one is about shaping. BEST MOMENTS “Ask yourself something important - if someone only saw these pieces, would they understand what kind of artist I am?” “Have a portrait image of yourself, ideally in your studio or somewhere that feels human. Smiley helps, warm helps, approachable helps. People want to know who they're connecting with. They don't need mystery here.” “A blank contact page with just an email address or an Instagram handle doesn't feel welcoming. It feels like a closed door.” PODCAST HOST BIO With over 35 years in the art world, Ceri has worked closely with leading artists and arts professionals, managed public and private galleries and charities, and curated more than 250 exhibitions and events. home profit Make Your Home Work Harder (Profit + Remodel Strategy) | Episode 589 Hey, it's James from SurvivalPunk.com. It's 39 degrees, and today we're talking about making your home work harder. This one's twofold. Part one: remodeling strategically in a broken housing market.Part two: turning your house from a pure expense into something that actually produces. The housing market sucks right now. That's just reality. But that doesn't mean you're powerless. The Housing Market Is Skewed — Use That Starter homes are struggling. Lower-tier houses are sitting. But higher-end houses? Selling like crazy. Million-dollar homes are moving because people with that kind of money don't care about rates the same way. That skews the data. People see $400k homes selling and assume everything is hot — but that doesn't help someone trying to get into their first house. If you're buying right now, one strategy is simple: buy under your ceiling. Know your range. Don't stretch yourself to death. Look at homes that need a little TLC. Cosmetic stuff. Cabinets. Paint. Fixtures. Appliances. Flooring. Those are solvable. Over time, you remodel intelligently and build equity yourself. If you're already in a house, the same concept applies. Pick one room at a time. Kitchen. Bathroom. Flooring. Do it in phases. At the end? You either: Have a fully remodeled home you love Or you sell at a higher value and move up But your strategy matters. If your goal is resale, you remodel based on trends — not your personal taste. Sage green cabinets? Trendy. I hate them. Doesn't matter. If the goal is ROI, you follow market taste. Black kitchens? Also trendy. Not my thing. If it's your forever home? Then build for you. Two totally different goals. Yard = Wasted Opportunity Most people see yard work as a chore. Leaves? Trash.Rainwater runoff? Waste.Space? Decorative. Wrong mindset. Leaves are free compost input. Not just your leaves — your neighbors' leaves too. Compost them down and: Stop buying compost Sell compost Sell compost tea Turn a waste stream into revenue You're literally converting trash into product. That's how you make a home work harder. Gardening Isn't Just Food — It's Leverage Growing your own vegetables reduces grocery bills. But microgreens? That's a business. The profit margins on microgreens are insane if you run it correctly. Small greenhouse. Controlled setup. Scalable. You need to run the numbers. But the ceiling is there. Even if you don't sell: Growing salads = not buying salads Growing vegetables = not buying vegetables Saving seeds = compounding future production If you're watering plants with rainwater you collected off your own roof, from seeds you saved from food you grew? You're basically printing your own money at that point. Water Runoff Is Money Going Down the Drain Rain barrels and cisterns are underrated. Every time it rains, your roof is producing water. Most people just let it run off. Collect it. Use it for: Gardening Lawn irrigation Emergency supply Water bills are going up. Ours doubled recently. It's still affordable, but it won't always be. Reducing dependency now is smart. Indoor Production: Mushrooms and Niche Products Growing mushrooms indoors is exploding. Lion's Mane. Reishi. Specialty varieties. The science on mushroom benefits is still unfolding, but the demand is real — and they're expensive to buy retail. If you're already spending money on them, growing them yourself cuts cost massively. Get good at it? Sell excess. There are tons of small indoor side hustles you can start from your home. Some are simple. Some are more technical. The common thread: Reduce retail markup. If you can make something yourself that normally carries huge markup — that's leverage. There's nothing wrong with profit. But there is a line between fair markup and straight-up exploitation. If you can eliminate the middle layer, your cost drops dramatically. That's power. Remodel vs Production — Pick Your Angle Your home can: Build equity through smart remodeling Reduce expenses through production Generate income through niche products Or do all three Most people treat their house as: Mortgage.Utilities.Expense. That's it. But if you treat it like a tool — like an asset that works — it changes the math. Final Thoughts The housing market might be rough. Interest rates might suck. Starter homes might be overpriced. But you still control: What you buy How you improve it What you produce from it What you stop paying retail for Make your home work harder. Got a property question that's been keeping you up at night? Every Tuesday, Rob & Rob are here to help. (00:45) Ryan's completed his first buy-to-let purchase, securing a hefty £35,000 discount. His original plan was to refurbish and refinance, but with local prices rising, he's now questioning whether it makes more sense to sell and reinvest in a high-quality property in a limited company instead. He turns to Rob & Rob to help him decide whether to stick with the original plan or pivot while the markets on his side. (05:48) Matt's first property deposit was saved in a stocks and shares ISA, and he got lucky – cashing out at just the right time to fund his purchase. Now he's saving for his second investment and asks Rob & Rob whether he should take the same approach again, or if there's a smarter way to build up that next deposit. Enjoy the show? In Everything Is Fine, I'll Just Work Harder: Confessions of A Former Badass (Street Noise Books, 2025), Professor Cara Gormally draws us into the familiar academic world of chronic busyness. In panel after panel, Cara brings us into a life numbed by overwork. Then, as this graphic memoir shows us, during an ordinary early-morning run, Cara's watch dings with a Facebook friend request. Their rapist wants to “friend” them. Cara always had a long to-do list; always had many projects; always was busy. But as their rapist continued to send friend requests and tried to reconnect with them, they began to lose their grip on their work, projects, and relationships. But then Cara connects with a therapist who guides them through a long but powerful process of healing. And Cara works to desensitize, reprocess, excavate and relive the old wounds in order to move past them and heal. This episode explores: Cara's path to academia; how she discovered her love of science; how art and writing can help us heal; the work of going to therapy; what radical self-acceptance is; why overwork can be a sign of a trauma response; the risks and rewards of changing; and the importance of writing communities. This episode does not discuss sexual assault. Our guest is: Dr. Cara Gormally (they/them), who is a professor at Gallaudet University, in Washington, D.C.
