In this episode of the show we are discussing one of the most successful movies Andrew Davis Directed and one that most definitely was the biggest success in Steven Seagal's acting career, the 1992 Under Siege. Over the course of our conversation you will hear us talk about the peculiar place Steven Seagal holds in the canon of 80s and 90s action heroes, how Under Siege slots into the post-Die Hard template and how it perhaps adds to it, and how Tommy Lee Jones and Gary Busey truly add colour to this entire spectacle. We also talk about the infamous Erika Eleniak cake scene, the many fables surrounding Seagal and his ego, Casey Ryback's cooking skills and much much more! OMG they only made a sequal and Casey Ryback is back talking more sh*t than ever!!!! We rip this film apart and have a great laugh whilst doing so.
Casey Ryback hops on a Colorado to LA train to start a vacation with his niece. Early into the trip, terrorists board the train and use it as a mobile HQ to hijack a top secret destructive US satellite.
It's Die Hard on a train! Casey Ryback is back and this time he's…well…um…I…um…hey look, forget about all that, because the good news is that Eric Bogosian is in this movie! This week Phil and Liam hitch a ride on a hijacked death train as they scrutinize Under Siege 2: Dark Territory, director Geoff Murphy's 1995 sequel to the original Seagal action classic! While travelling from Denver to LA via train with his estranged niece Sarah (Katherine Heigl), ex-Navy SEAL Casey Ryback (Seagal) finds himself in the middle of a terrorist takeover led by disgruntled computer genius Travis Dane (Eric Bogosian), who plans to use his experimental government satellite weapon to launch a massive attack on the Eastern seaboard! Ok we'll level with you. This movie isn't great, but Eric Bogosian IS…so the boys spend much of this episode discussing the life, work and varied career of this remarkably talented renaissance man, including his stage plays, monologues, TV and film career and even his non-fiction book Operation Nemesis. Eric Bogosian forever! In ‘Anatomy of an Action Movie', the guys break down the film piece by piece, discussing what works, what doesn't and why, as well as how this film compares to its slick and stylish predecessor (directed by friend of the show Andrew Davis). But it's not just a Bogosian love-fest, as there's also plenty of affection here for the film's eclectic supporting cast, that includes the likes of Morris Chestnut, Jonathan Banks, Peter Greene and Everett McGill (as mace-imbibing bad guy Marcus Penn). The guys ride the rail to attend the ‘Die Hard Oscars', before wrapping things up with the ‘Double Jeopardy' trivia quiz, where this week Liam finally turns the tables on Phil and gets his revenge! After all, when it comes to quizzes, chance favors the prepared mind!UNDER SIEGE 2 trailer:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LorQZ4TfbTQAt the time of release, UNDER SIEGE 2 is available to rent or buy on Amazon Prime Video, Apple/iTunes, YouTube, Vudu and all the usual platforms!AMERICAN ENGLISH SOCCER PODCASThttps://www.buzzsprout.com/1652062EYE OF THE DUCK PODCASThttps://eyeoftheduckpod.com/Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/die-hard-on-a-blank/exclusive-contentAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

It's DIE HARD on a battleship! Phil and Liam take a deep dive into choppy waters as they analyze UNDER SIEGE (1992), one of the earliest (and best) action films to directly replicate the classic DIE HARD formula. In this instance, Steven Seagal stars as Casey Ryback, a former Navy SEAL turned ship's cook, who springs into action when the USS Missouri is seized by traitorous terrorists looking to hijack its nuclear arsenal…and mayhem swiftly ensues! First off, the boys place this movie in its wider cultural context, noting how this big budget picture marked a departure from the grimy urban thrillers that had been Seagal's stock and trade up to this point. Much of the credit for the film's success must go to director Andrew Davis, who had collaborated with Tommy Lee Jones on his previous film THE PACKAGE (1989) and would do so again on THE FUGITIVE (1993), the movie that helped propel Jones from a respected supporting actor into a global movie star. Given the film's premise, there's ‘Die Hard DNA' all over the place, although the boys also discuss the fact that Ryback's elite military background distinguishes him from ‘the everyman' John McClane, in yet another notable variation of the ever-evolving action hero archetype. There's also plenty of enthusiasm here for the extraordinary performances of Tommy Lee Jones and Gary Busey as charismatic villains Strannix and Krill, and another chance to play Phil's favorite game: ‘Who's Your Favorite Terrorist?' Praise is also reserved for the subversive, satirical performance of Erika Eleniak as Playboy playmate Jordan Tate, who elevates a sexist, thankless role with her sly comedic choices. As always, the ‘Die Hard Oscars' provide plenty of entertainment value, along with (Liam's least favorite game) the ‘Double Jeopardy' trivia quiz, which features a real DIE HARD doozy this week! "It's not a job. It's an adventure!" - Casey Ryback (Steven Seagal) Join our Discord https://discord.gg/jDrUtNcRq2 Well, folks it is that time where the pod turns its gaze on Seagal biggest commercial and critical hit the 1992 effort "Under Siege." Listen as hosts Scott Murphy and Kyle Hintz deep dive (pun entirely intended) into this one and find a more standard action narrative than normal but that does not mean we go totally without some Seaglian quirks (thank goodness!) . They also enthuse about the films great central villain pairing of Tommy Lee Jones and Gary Busey, are very entertained by the central absurdity of Casey Ryback being a cook with a mysterious CIA past (because how would we know it was a Seagal character without him having a mysterious CIA past!) and are generally infuriated by Ryback's comic relief sidekick Jordan (Erika Eleniak). Elsewhere, in the episode Scott and Kyle marvel at how Tom Breaker (Nick Mancuso) keeps his job at the CIA by the end of the movie as well as equally marvelling at Seagal's attempts at conveying. Plus, they make the case for this flick being the greatest Die Hard rip-off of them all!!
Another week of Thankful For Action November and another action icon. This episode we discuss the man with the great ponytail and the weird waddle run, Steven Seagal. Seagal plays Casey Ryback, a Navy seal turned chef who is forced to save a ship in Under Siege and then a train in Under Siege 2: Dark Territory. We try to figure out how Steven Seagal made so many good movies with absolutely no charisma and seemingly below average martial arts skills. We discuss knife fights between Seagal and Tommy Lee Jones and debate on who wore it better between Gary Busey and Willem Dafoe. We also reveal the winner of our Arnold vs Stallone vote, and we announce what movie we will be watching while the losing host eats the hottest one chip challenge we could find! Most importantly we give you the answer to our weekly question...Are Under Siege and Under Siege 2: Dark Territory bloody good films? We encourage everyone to watch along while you listen and make sure to comment and let us know what you think. This week we are discussing our very 1st Steven Seagal sequel, "Under Siege 2: Dark Territory". This sequel has a young Katherine Heigl and Morris Chestnut along with a laundry list of legendary henchmen. We discussed cooking on the train, Casey Ryback never getting dirty, the lack of passengers, an odd main villain, Mike Pence, and more. Of course, we brought back our action movie sequel expert, Andrew Powers. This a video review that you can watch at sequelsonly.com/undersiege2 The next sequel we are reviewing is “Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay”, which is one sequel that I love, but Jamie has never seen any of them. We interviewed a man who is more comedian than actor, Jon Reep, but honestly great at both. Jon is most famous for winning the 5th season of Last Comic Standing and being “That thing got a Hemi” guy in all those dodge commercials in the mid-2000s. So that'll be great and he has a hilarious podcast called "Countryish" and I'll put the link in the notes. https://www.countryishpodcast.com/ Follow us on all social media @sequelsonly and our website is sequelsonly.com

We end Steven Seagal July with one of the final theatrical films from the Aikido master, as well as being his first sequel: Under Siege 2: Dark Territory. Seagal reprises his role of the Aikido cook Casey Ryback as he's tasked with stopping a deranged Eric Bogosian from using a satellite to start WW3. It's Die Hard on a Train but with more train car jumping. The film's screenwriter Richard Hatem and Oughtfive Film's Father Malone join Chris to talk about the film's creation, what Seagal is really like, and what a third film might look like. In this installment of our From The Vault series, we cover 1992's UNDER SIEGE - starring pre-fat Steven Seagal as Casey Ryback, a Navy cook who just so happens to be the most lethal human who has ever lived. It also stars Gary Busey and Tommy Lee Jones, who basically play the Riddler and Two-Face from Joel Schumacher's Batman Forever. It's a surprisingly well-made Die Hard ripoff and we definitely take a dive into the douchiness that is Steven Seagal.--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/slasher-movie-podcast-now/messageSupport this podcast: https://anchor.fm/slasher-movie-podcast-now/supportSupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/pmtm)
Andrew brings back Casey Ryback as Johnny tries to remember what it was like to be Under Siege the first time. Andrew also dishes out information on how to be Under Siege in Dark Territory, and how the film uses various semiotic, metaphoric and visual ways to create a siege that is in dark territory, and that is under said siege. It’s very clever.
The year is 1992, and director Andrew Davis released Under Siege starring Steven Seagal, Tommy Lee Jones, and Gary Busey. When a corrupted officer and a band of mercenaries hijack a battleship and imprison the crew in a plot to sell its nuclear warheads, you can really only rely on one man, the cook. Steven Seagal stars as Casey Ryback, an ex-Navy Seal who is now the cook on the battleship USS Missouri since being discharged some time ago. Ryback shows his chops as he cooks up some serious ass-whooping and single-handedly broils the competition. This movie brought in a searing $156 million on a $35 million budget. But does it hold up? Listen in as Jon, Colin, and Brent filet the movie many call Seagal’s best as we try to determine if this well done or overcooked?
There's plenty on the menu this week as the boys dissect the work of Romanian cricketers, an Arsenal star's Casey Ryback impersonation and the cost-effective menu at Pizza Hut... Oh, and as for sport there's Carlton's late season resurgence, tips and teams from the world of AFL, United and Juve's adaptation of the Trading Post, Sean's thought on Hobbs & Shaw. And how could we forget the quiz!
Now it's time for some more Action Trump! Or as you normal people call him Steven Seagal. This time we go back to him as Casey Ryback, this time he's on a train with his niece and a black guy. How Casey win? By barely being in the movie and hardly doing any action. So usual Seagal. Like us on Facebook/Join our Facebook Group/Follow us on Twitter Full track of out Intro and Outro by Cxdy

Welcome to episode 273. This installment is fantastic. I'm being serious here. The show opens with a few new nicknames. Benny has equated himself to John Cutter and he has equated RZ to Casey Ryback. Very complimentary stuff. They then roll into how excited they are for Solo, and envision what night life would be like in Cloud City. Very interesting stuff there. RZ gets a quick opportunity to discuss the new God of War game, which is super filthy. Following that, they discuss the Celtics success, as well as the Red Sox. Specifically, they get into the Red Sox standings, then talk about how many goddamn offensive categories the Sox are leading in. Hot stuff. Hot stuff. Oh yeah. They talk about the new Rambo. That should be sweet.
Sometimes you just need a relaxing trip to get away from the worries of everyday life. We’re taking a nice long train ride to help clear our heads and, lucky for us, Steven Seagal is coming along to kick some terrorist butt in 1995’s Under Siege 2: Dark Territory. This movie follows Casey Ryback as he travels across this great country with his niece Sarah. His family vacation is interrupted when a group of mercenaries hijacks the train he is on and use it as a moving base of operations to control a weapon of mass destruction attached to a secret satellite. Casey spends his time sneaking around the train and eliminating the enemy scum all while spitting out silly qwips as only Mr. Seagal can. Spoiler alert, Casey kills everyone that comes in his path and saves the day. This movie is the perfect example of a fun-bad film. Is anyone better at making a bad movie than Steven Seagal? I mean he has been doing this for 77 years! How was the budget for this movie $60 million? Why do they need to shoehorn the phase “dark territory” into the film so much? Is there any way we can get a Nicolas Cage and Steven Seagal buddy cop comedy greenlit? Thank you for all of the love you continue to show us. Please rate and review the podcast wherever you get it and if you like the show, share it with your friends. Have a great week.

As it turns out, the legend of Casey Ryback was too much to be contained in a single film. To get the closure that we very much needed, we watched Under Siege 2: Dark Territory. Oh boy. Uh. Let’s just say that we had fun with this particular movie. If you want to hear far too many Ryback-based puns and one minor Joel Schumacher Batman tangent, this is the episode for you. Stream and download the episode here or on iTunes here. Email us at bulletsbombsbeer@gmail.com. We may read it during the next podcast. Actually, we will definitely read it. Thanks for listening!
