On this special episode of THE BIG 4-0, Ron and Peter look back at the first SEVEN films from one of our childhood action heroes, Steven Seagal. ABOVE THE LAW (1988), HARD TO KILL (1990), MARKED FOR DEATH (1990), OUT FOR JUSTICE (1991), UNDER SIEGE (1992), his directorial debut ON DEADLY GROUND (1994), and his only theatrical sequel and arguably the end of his run as a major box office draw, UNDER SIEGE 2: DARK TERRITORY (1995). That's a lot of films and a lot of ground to cover, so apologies if we didn't do each film or his entire career justice. There are a lot of interesting discussion points left on the table, many touched on, but not fully explored - such as a deeper dive into his past and wild background claims (CIA and/or mob ties?), excellent/interesting supporting cast members we mention but don't trace the arc of their careers as we normally would (Sharron Stone, Pam Grier, Kelly LeBrock, William Forsythe, Jerry Orbach, Tommy lee Jones, Gary Busy, Erika Eleniak, Michael Cain, John C. McGinley, Joan Chen, Billy Bob Thornton, Eric Bogosian, Evert McGill, Morris Chestnut, and Kathrine Heigel, among others), how he always uses a .45 pistol the way Riggs and McClane always use a Baretta, his badass Bronco in MARKED FOR DEATH, the fact that he looks great - damn near hunky - at 40, no less, in UNDER SIEGE, Bassil Poledouris' awesome ON DEADLY GROUND score, and Seagal's music career (two actually-not-bad blues albums!), post-theatrical-direct-to-DVD period, TV career (A&E's LAWMAN), his fashion, political beliefs, and his legal troubles, both as an accused sexual predator and a falling-out with his producing partner Julius Nasso, which led to a real-life Seagal/mob altercation - but as a focus on just these seven films, how they've aged, and where we each rank them in his filmography, it's an in-depth, fun, and revelatory episode. Please remember to Rate, Like, and Subscribe, and we'll be back in 1984 next time to burn down the house celebrating STOP MAKING SENSE and PARIS, TEXAS's BIG 4-0s!

Mehr dazu von Wolfgang M. This week Johnny C has a special guest from his early days at NYU and the New York City theater. Eric Bogosian is one of the most prolific actors/playwrights today. You may have seen him recently on Anne Rice's Interview With A Vampire.   Eric Bogosian was born in Boston and grew up in Woburn, Massachusetts. After graduating from Woburn Memorial High School in 1971, he attended the University of Chicago and graduated from Oberlin College in 1976, whereupon he moved to New York City. In New York he was hired by the Kitchen as an assistant, established a dance series there and after five years left to devote all his energies to his theater work. Between 1976 and 1982, Bogosian wrote, directed and/or starred in over sixteen productions Off-Off-Broadway. In 1982, he toured the Midwest with Fab Five Freddy and the Rock Steady Crew.   In the early 1980's Eric Bogosian became well-known in New York for his intense one-man theater pieces, winning the Obie Award three times as well as the Drama Desk Award. In 1983, after attending one of his one-man shows, Larry Cohen cast Bogosian as the homicidal director in his low-budget film Special Effects (1984). Four years later, Bogosian's Pulitzer-nominated play, (in which he also starred), "Talk Radio" caught the attention of the greater film world. Robert Altman cast Bogosian in his film of The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial (1988) while producer Edward R. Pressman obtained the rights to the play and brought it to director Oliver Stone. Stone and Bogosian adapted the play script to film script, Bogosian again played the lead and the film of Talk Radio (1988) opened in December 1988. Bogosian received the prestigious "Silver Bear" at the 1989 Berlin Festival for his work on the film.   After the release of "Talk Radio", Bogosian worked regularly as an actor in film and television while remaining very active in the theater. 1994 was a banner year in which Bogosian co-starred with Steven Seagal in Under Siege 2: Dark Territory (1995) as the diabolical "Travis Dane", was featured in Dolores Claiborne (1995), staged another one-man show Off-Broadway and authored the play, "subUrbia" directed by Robert Falls and produced by Lincoln Center Theater, ("subUrbia" was adapted for film by director Richard Linklater). Around this time, Bogosian would also cameo appearances in Woody Allen's Deconstructing Harry (1997), Atom Egoyan's Ararat (2002), Cindy Sherman's Office Killer (1997) and Mike Judge's Beavis and Butt-Head Do America (1996).   In the 1990's Bogosian continued to write for film and TV, adapting his own work as well as receiving assignments from studios. He began to write for television when he was invited to co-create a show for Steven Spielberg: High Incident (1996) in 1996. As an actor, in 2003, he co-starred with Val Kilmer as the notorious Eddie Nash in James Cox's Wonderland (2003). In 2006 he was invited onboard Law & Order: Criminal Intent (2001) as Captain Danny Ross (where he appeared in over sixty episodes).   In 2010, Bogosian starred on Broadway in Donald Margulies' "Time Stands Still" with Laura Linney, Brian d'Arcy James, Alicia Silverstone and Christina Ricci.   In 2013, Bogosian created a website featuring his numerous monologues performed by notable actors. Visit 100monologues.com to view the complete catalog of over 75 monologues.   More recently, Bogosian landed a series of featured television roles on Netflix's The Get Down (2016), Showtime's Billions (2016) and as Senator Gil Eavis on HBO's Succession (2018).   Bogosian has been featured in Josh Safdie and Benny Safdie's Uncut Gems (2019) (starring Adam Sandler).   In addition to his numerous plays, Bogosian is the author of three novels "Mall", "Wasted Beauty" and "Perforated Heart." His non-fiction history, Operation Nemesis: The Assassination Plot that Avenged the Armenian Genocide was published by Little, Brown in 2015.   He lives in New York City with his wife, director Jo Bonney with whom he has two children; Travis Bogosian and Harry Bogosian Produced by John C McGinleye and Angie Quidim  Copyright TME Productions 2023-2024 all rights reserved  May not be used without permission.  Contact connectivetissuejcm@gmail.com

Send us a Text Message.Happy Wine Wednesday! Terence is back with me to wrap up our coverage of the SPECTACULAR second season of AMC's Interview with the Vampire.  This was truly a bittersweet occasion because I have had such a blast talking to Terence about this amazing show and I'm sad to say farewell (for now) to the show and to my weekly chats with Terence about it.We had a lot of fun talking about these messy vampires in this finale episode.  We start the episode by delighting in Louis getting his lick back and serving up some fiery revenge to those coven bastards for what they did to Claudia and Madeline.  And of course we talk about the brilliance of Jacob Anderson as he captures Louis's madness. That final showdown with Santiago was EVERYTHING. Ben Daniels will truly be missed, but what a sendoff that was for his character who got the whackings he deserved from Louis.Next we talk about the SHOCKING revelations about the trial, which came as no surprise because Armand has repeatedly been revealed to be a lying liar who lies. We can't say enough good things about this cast, including the delight that Eric Bogosian brings to Daniel Molloy as he calmly and methodically ramps up to reveal to Louis that it was Lestat who saved him.We can't wait to see that home wrecking Daniel Molloy adjust to life as a vampire in Season 3.  Speaking of Season 3, we are SO ready for rock star Lestat and to see where things stand with Louis.  The Loustat reunion scene was so beautifully acted, so y'all know we had lots to say about it. Thanks so much for listening to our coverage! The season has ended, but if you're like me you're probably in a full blown rewatch.  My discussion with Terence about episode 7 - "I Could Not Prevent It" is the perfect rewatch companion.  And if you're just getting around to the second season, welcome!Terence and I do a deep dive into the trial of Claudia, Louis, and Madeline.  We question whether Lestat was there voluntarily and speculate about the meaning behind Lestat's apparent shakiness at times during the trial. And of course we get into the shocking revelations in the episode that go back to Season 1, like the intense fight between Louis and Lestat and the night that Lestat gave Claudia the gift.We also continue to question what - if anything - we can believe about Armand in these memories.  We simply don't trust him! We close out our conversation giving a heartfelt farewell to Claudia and talking about the many ways in which she was failed as a human and then again as a vampire.  Salute to Delainey Haynes for a superb performance this season. On this week's show, the hosts begin by reviewing Babes, Pamela Adlon's (Better Things, Louie) directorial feature debut starring Ilana Glazer and Michelle Buteau. Through raunch-comedy and body horror, Babes explores childbirth and pregnancy through a refreshingly unromanticized lens, but does it succeed as a drama? Then, the three switch gears and turn to Interview With the Vampire, AMC's Anne Rice adaptation that's now in its second season. What a weird show! The series–starring Jacob Anderson as Louis de Pointe du Lac and Eric Bogosian as the titular cynical interviewer–brings the novel's queer subtext to the surface, and is camp in every sense of the word. Finally, the trio is joined by Mikael Wood, the Los Angeles Times' pop music critic to discuss Billie Eilish's latest album, Hit Me Hard and Soft. (You can read Wood's review here.) Produced with her brother Finneas, Hit Me Hard and Soft offers a new way of thinking about the 22-year-old, and features songs like “Birds of a Feather” and “Lunch,” a fun, lusty track about being into girls.  In the exclusive Slate Plus segment, the panel answers a question from long-time listener, James: “What things that you love have you been introduced to by advertising?” Email us at culturefest@slate.com.  Endorsements: Dana: This week's endorsement comes with a brag: Dana's daughter is going to Julliard! Through that, they discovered the wonderful documentary, Creating a Character: The Moni Yakim Legacy.  Julia: Two clarifications and an extremely sumptuous sweater recommendation. First, the fashion Substacks mentioned on a previous episode were I Want to be Her!, Girls of a Certain Age, and Blackbird Spyplane. Second, a wool sweater from Dana Lee Brown.  Stephen: The Time of the Last Persecution, an album by the English singer-songwriter Bill Fay, released in 1971.  Podcast production by Jessamine Molli. Jenny Frankfurt is the founder of The Finish Line Script Competition, currently in its 7th year. Prior to Finish Line and her work as a script consultant, Jenny was a film and television literary manager/producer at ICM, Handprint Entertainment and her own company, Highstreet Management. She has represented writers and filmmakers around the globe, specializing but not limited to breaking UK, European & amp; Australian writers and directors into the US market. She sold television shows (both reality and fiction), features and staffed television shows for over 20 years. Jenny began her career in representation after graduating from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts by working at the William Morris Agency in New York where she worked for a legendary film, tv and playwright's agent, who represented such writers as Eric Bogosian, William Mastrosimone, Warren Leight, Eric Overmyer and Jon Robin Baitz. Jenny worked at ICM with clients such as Susan Sarandon, Louis Malle, Johnny Depp, Lasse Hallstrom and Will Smith. After deciding management would give her more freedom to produce and influence her client's careers she started working with manager Rick Yorn and clients such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Cameron Diaz, Claire Danes and Benicio Del Toro among others. Finish Line is based on the idea that rewriting is essential to being a successful writer and we provide development notes when requested in order for writers to rewrite and resubmit new drafts (for free) throughout the competition. What better way to celebrate March Madness than to revisit a basketball movie which actually isn't a basketball movie but does still feature lots of basketball.....sorta? :) Benny and Josh Safdie followed up their breakout success of a couple of years prior - the extremely tense urban thriller Good Time starring Robert Pattinson - with an even TENSER crime thriller starring Adam Sandler as a fast-talking New York jeweler who also happens to be a gambling addict.  His habit of betting on NBA basketball games just escalates further and further after he also encounters NBA superstar Kevin Garnett (played by himself) at his store at the same time he receives an extremely valuable stone imported from Ethiopia.  And from there, things just get more intense as he makes larger high stakes bets while also using increasingly valuable gems from his store as collateral.  This highly acclaimed drama also stars LaKeith Stanfield, Julia Fox, Eric Bogosian, and Idina Menzel. Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene Gershon https://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

It's Die Hard on a train! Casey Ryback is back and this time he's…well…um…I…um…hey look, forget about all that, because the good news is that Eric Bogosian is in this movie! This week Phil and Liam hitch a ride on a hijacked death train as they scrutinize Under Siege 2: Dark Territory, director Geoff Murphy's 1995 sequel to the original Seagal action classic! While travelling from Denver to LA via train with his estranged niece Sarah (Katherine Heigl), ex-Navy SEAL Casey Ryback (Seagal) finds himself in the middle of a terrorist takeover led by disgruntled computer genius Travis Dane (Eric Bogosian), who plans to use his experimental government satellite weapon to launch a massive attack on the Eastern seaboard!  Ok we'll level with you. This movie isn't great, but Eric Bogosian IS…so the boys spend much of this episode discussing the life, work and varied career of this remarkably talented renaissance man, including his stage plays, monologues, TV and film career and even his non-fiction book Operation Nemesis. Eric Bogosian forever! In ‘Anatomy of an Action Movie', the guys break down the film piece by piece, discussing what works, what doesn't and why, as well as how this film compares to its slick and stylish predecessor (directed by friend of the show Andrew Davis). But it's not just a Bogosian love-fest, as there's also plenty of affection here for the film's eclectic supporting cast, that includes the likes of Morris Chestnut, Jonathan Banks, Peter Greene and Everett McGill (as mace-imbibing bad guy Marcus Penn). The guys ride the rail to attend the ‘Die Hard Oscars', before wrapping things up with the ‘Double Jeopardy' trivia quiz, where this week Liam finally turns the tables on Phil and gets his revenge! The movie is a fictional portrayal of a real talk show host who was murdered by a psychotic, obsessive listener. The Barry Champlain character (played by Eric Bogosian) was a provocateur (the man you love to hate) who held a mirror up to the audience and told both truth and lies. His perspective was an example of the frustrations of crumbling society. I'm not Barry Champlain. Now that everyone on the planet has seen "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer" it's time to sample of of the new movies coming out. We've got quite a varied sample to tell you about. We start with "Flora & Son" starring Eve Hewson and Joseph Gordon-Levitt and it follows Flora, a single mom who is at war with her son, Max. Trying to find a hobby for Max, she rescues a guitar from a dumpster and finds that one person's trash can be a family's salvation. Then there's "Dumb Money" which is based on the insane true story of everyday people who flipped the script on Wall Street and got rich by turning GameStop (the video game store) into the world's hottest company. Then there's the hard-boiled detective story "Reptile" starring Benecio Del Toro, Justin Timberlake and Eric Bogosian. If you're a sci-fi fan there's "The Creator" which takes place against the backdrop of a war between humans and robots with artificial intelligence,as a former soldier finds the secret weapon, a robot in the form of a young child. But wait, there's more. We've got "Foe" which also takes place in the future and stars Saoirse Ronan and Paul Mescal as farmers whose quiet life is thrown into turmoil when an uninvited stranger shows up at their door with a startling proposal.Still not enough? How about "Cat Person" which is a razor-sharp exploration of the horrors of dating. And then there's "Fair Play" which tells what happens when an unexpected promotion at a cutthroat hedge fund pushes a young couple's relationship to the brink, threatening to unravel far more than their recent engagement. This week, we speak to composer Yair Elazar Glotman about his score for the latest prestige thriller from Netflix, Reptile, a stylish neo-noir starring Benicio Del Toro as a mercurial detective looking into the murder of a real estate agent. Everyone's a suspect, from the victim's boyfriend (Justin Timberlake) to the creepy guy down the street (played by Michael Pitt), even to some of Del Toro's fellow officers (incluidng Ato Essandoh, Domenick Lombardozzi and Eric Bogosian).   It's the directorial debut of music video director Grant Singer, who fills each corner of the frame with cold, calculating and precise compositions, painting an isolated, alien world of hidden motivations and untold terrors hiding within the mundane. Singer's work in Reptile closely mirrors the work of David Fincher, and it's an intriguing experience to behold -- not least because of Glotman's dissonant, visceral, textural score. Building eerie combinations of altered string compositions and textured syths, Glotman's work fills in the empty spaces left by Reptile's sparse, opaque script, echoing through the vast voids of understanding the central mystery leaves its viewers.   Now, I'm pleased to have Glotman on the podcast to talk about how he got started in music and composing, his work with Singer on Reptile, and his fascination with pulling apart the sound of things to see what he can find.   You can find Yair Elazar Glotman at his official website here.   Reptile is currently streaming on Netflix.  You can also listen to the score on your preferred music streaming service courtesy of Netflix Music.

In this episode of Deep Focus, your host Rodrigo Perez sits down to chat with Grant Singer, the director of the crime thriller/drama, "Reptile." Yes, it's a crime film, superficially—a hardened detective investigates a mysterious murder— and resembles, in some respects, the grim mood of a serial killer procedural in the vein of, say, David Fincher. But it's also a character-driven drama and murder mystery—featuring excellent and consistently surprising supporting turns by Alicia Silverstone, Justin Timberlake, Michael Pitt, Eric Bogosian, and more— that maybe more resembles something like Denis Villeneuve's “Prisoners,” mixed with the system-is-rigged futility of “Chinatown.” This is high praise, obviously, but it's deserved. Singer makes his feature-length directorial debut with "Reptile" which is co-written along with Benicio del Toro, and we spoke about what del Toro brought to the project, both as an actor and writer, the process of getting him and dive deep into its many themes of shedding skin, dreams, broken dreams and more. It's an underrated movie and you should check it out asap. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/theplaylist/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/theplaylist/support

This week on Dopey! We are joined by legendary actor of the stage and screen, Andre Royo. Andre recounts his journey growing up in the Bronx and inhabiting arguably the greatest heroin addict in television history playing 'Bubbles' on the Wire. PLUS his personal journey into recovery, reminiscing on his 'method style' on playing a homeless heroin addict, his current run - playing the lead in Eric Bogosian's 'Drinking in America' and tons of other stuff.  PLUS emails! voicemails! My dad! The All New Dopey Fitness Challenge with Doug Bobst and much much more on this all new all classic version of that good ol' Dopey Show! MORE ON DOPEY! Dopey Podcast is the world's greatest podcast on drugs, addiction and dumb shit. Chris and I were two IV heroin addicts who loved to talk about all the coke we smoked, snorted and shot, all the pills we ate, smoked, all the weed we smoked and ate, all the booze we consumed and all the consequences we suffered. After making the show for 2 and a half years, Chris tragically relapsed and died from a fentanyl overdose. Dopey continued on, at first to mourn the horrible loss of Chris, but then to continue our mission - which was at its core, to keep addicts and alcoholics company. Whether to laugh at our time in rehab, or cry at the worst missteps we made, Dopey tells the truth about drugs, addiction and recovery. We continually mine the universe for stories rife with debauchery and highlight serious drug taking and alcoholism. We also examine different paths toward addiction recovery. We shine a light on harm reduction and medication assisted treatment. We talk with celebrities and nobodies and stockpile stories to be the greatest one stop shop podcast on all things drugs, addiction, recovery and comedy!

Writer and actor Eric Bogosian (Talk Radio, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Succession) has been in the business for a while. Long enough, that he tells Recode's Peter Kafka, he's learned to let other people worry about the business stuff. AMC's hoping he's good business for them; the network is hoping its new Interview with a Vampire can help fill the zombie-shaped genre hole left by the ending of The Walking Dead. Bogosian talks about the modern-day relevance of Talk Radio, paying for his kids' college with a steady Law & Order paycheck, and why he decided not to monetize his online project 100 (monologues). Featuring: Eric Bogosian (@ericbogosian), Actor and Writer Host: Peter Kafka (@pkafka), Senior Editor at Recode More to explore: Subscribe for free to Recode Media, Peter Kafka, one of the media industry's most acclaimed reporters, talks to business titans, journalists, comedians, and more to get their take on today's media landscape.
