YVETTE NICOLE BROWN BIO Yvette landed her first television role - - a two-episode gig playing Toni Childs' sister "Sherri" on GIRLFRIENDS - - by chance. Casting director Robi Reed called her in to audition from a post card submission. Yvette had no credits and no agent. That stroke of serendipity at the beginning of her career, taught Yvette that you never know how God is going to move in your life and career. Booking a series regular role two months later, on the first pilot she auditioned for further proved the point. That show, ABC's THE BIG HOUSE -- which starred Kevin Hart, only lasted a few episodes; but that experience proved to be a blessing as well. Through it, Yvette learned the transient nature of the business and to always "travel light".Yvette has since appeared (and often recurred) on shows as varied as ENTOURAGE, PSYCH, CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM, HOT IN CLEVELAND, MELISSA & JOEY, THE OFFICE, THE SOUL MAN, THAT'S SO RAVEN, HALF & HALF, SLEEPER CELL, HOUSE, TWO AND A HALF MEN, THAT 70'S SHOW and BOSTON LEGAL - - where she got to perform "Big, Blonde & Beautiful" from Hairspray. It was a bit of a homecoming because Yvette is no stranger to singing. She was managed by Michael Bivins (of New Edition and BBD) and signed to Motown Records when she was just a teen.Younger viewers may know Yvette from her recurring role on Nickelodeon's DRAKE & JOSH, where she played movie theater manager, Helen Ophelia Dubois. Landing that role was another serendipitous experience. The role of Helen was to be a one-time role; one that Yvette auditioned for while on hiatus from THE BIG HOUSE. That one-time role turned into four years of employment and introduced Yvette and her silliness to the best group of fans in the world...kids! The cast of DRAKE & JOSH reunited in 2008 for the holiday movie, "Merry Christmas: Drake & Josh," a film that broke Nickelodeon viewership records when it was seen by over 8 million viewers the night it debuted. It has since gone on to become an annual holiday favorite.Yvette has also had a successful career in commercials. She's appeared in over 40 national spots. You may have seen her in ads for BIG LOTS, PINE SOL, CITIBANK, FIBER ONE YOGURT, DAIRY QUEEN, HAMBURGER HELPER, ARROWHEAD WATER, HOME DEPOT, COMCAST, LG and DiGIORNO'S PIZZA to name a few. Yvette was also immortalized in puppet form as "Mrs. Lewis, from downstairs" in a series of NIKE spots alongside puppet versions of Kobe Bryant and LeBron James. She is also making a name for herself in the voiceover world. She can currently be heard as "Luna" on Disney's ELENA OF AVALOR, "Principal Waller" on DC's SUPERHERO GIRLS and the dual role of "Portia" and "Zenith" on Crackle's SUPERMANSION where she works alongside Bryan Cranston and Keegan Michael Key. She also voiced the character "Cookie" for three seasons as one of the HUB Network's POUND PUPPIES. Listen closely and you can also hear Yvette on WABBIT, FAMILY GUY, PUPPY DOG PALS, THE REGULAR SHOW and DOC McSTUFFINS just to name a few and recently made her feature animated debut voicing "Ladybug" in the film "Yellowbird"Most recently, Yvette has made the rounds of numerous game shows and talk shows including THE LATE SHOW WITH STEPHEN COLBERT, THE CHEW, THE VIEW, THE REAL, HOLLYWOOD GAME NIGHT, TO TELL THE TRUTH, CELEBRITY FAMILY FEUD, PYRAMID, MATCH GAME, CELEB NAME GAME and her absolute favorite, THE TALKING DEAD.In addition to her commercial and television work--most recently as a series regular on CBS' THE ODD COUPLE, Yvette also has a burgeoning film career. She made her film debut in the romantic comedy, "Little Black Book," working alongside Brittany Murphy and Oscar winners, Holly Hunter and Kathy Bates. Her next film, Michael Bay's futuristic thriller, "The Island" put her on the set with Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson. Supporting roles in other films including "Dreamgirls" and "The Kid and I," - - where she first met and worked with one of her childhood heroes, Henry Winkler - - soon followed. She was in the box office hit, "Tropic Thunder" (directed by Ben Stiller) where she worked with Matthew McConaughey; as well as the family film, "Meet Dave" where she realized a childhood dream by sharing the screen with Eddie Murphy.Other film roles include the family film, "Hotel for Dogs" starring Emma Roberts and Don Cheadle, the romantic comedy, "The Ugly Truth" starring Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler, the indie hit, "(500) Days of Summer" starring Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt; and the action thriller, "Repo Men" where she shared the screen with Jude Law and Oscar winner, Forest Whitaker. Most recently, those with a keen eye, could see Yvette peeking thru loads of prosthetic makeup as one of the "three fates" in the Percy Jackson sequel, "Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters".Yvette also appeared in the hit BET mini-series THE NEW EDITION STORY and hosted SyFy's game show, COSPLAY MELEE, Yvette also co-starred in the recent ABC sitcom THE MAYOR and starred as Shirley Bennett for five seasons on the NBC hit comedy series COMMUNITY.Yvette currently resides in L.A. 1994 brought us My Father the Hero, a really inappropriate movie about trying to make a hot guy jealous by pretending your father is your boyfriend, a movie plot that could only come from one place ... France! That's right - this American remake of Mon Pere Ce Heros - stars Gerard Depardieu, the Frenchman Du Jour of the 80s and 90s and Katherine Heigl, very pre Grey's Anatomy as she looks like a tiny baby! The plot is ridiculous but stay for the epic soundtrack by the Baha Men of Who Let The Dog's Out Fame (and we couldn't stop singing THAT all episode, let me tell you), Nikki's cute wardrobe and inside out French braid, and try to stop your brain from doing mental gymnastics wondering how a movie like this gets made! Guy incorrectly and unbeknowst to him, outed as a pedophile by his teenage daughter just so she can score a makeout sesh with a hot dude?! Cue the hilarity! Bonus - best thing we learned all week, The Baha Men are named the Baha Men because they are from the BAHA-mas! WHOA.
Oh, this one is a good one! What an absolutely bizarre film! We invited the phenomenal comedian/writer Grace Jarvis along to help us unpack this rom-com about brutal murder. "One For The Money" is a 2012 sexy, comedy, crime film based on the book of the same name written by Janet Evanovich. The book is the first in a series featuring the character of Stephanie Plum. As of 2021, this series of books features 28 full length novels, 4 holiday novellas and a short story in a compilation of the authors work. The film, as of 2023, is stand alone. It stars Katherine Heigl from "Grey's Anatomy" as a tough New Jersey woman of Hungarian/Italian decent. She loses her job as a lingerie salesman at Macy's so, naturally, she becomes a Bounty Hunter. Her first job is to find the super sexy former cop who is a suspect in a heartless murder... but, in a whacky plot twist, this sexy ex-cop took her virginity! Also, her boss is her cousin who tried to kiss her once. Cooked. John Leguizamo plays the owner of a gym and the coach of a vicious man who may have witnessed the murder of an innocent woman. This sounds really dark, hey? Yeah... except that it's a rom-com.... Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Not Couple Goals: Valentine (2001) Welcome to “Not Couple Goals” where co-hosts Allie Nelson and Tyler McCarthy do a deep dive into a different ridiculous romantic thriller from the vantage point of their long-term relationship. Allie, a TV writer/producer and actress, has an affinity for romantic thrillers, the more salacious the better. Tyler, an entertainment reporter and critic, often finds himself drawn in despite his better judgment. Join them as they explore all the ways it's possible to love too hard… like WAY too hard. In this special Valentine's Day episode, Allie and Tyler are joined by married couple Ryan Lee Gilbert and Tyler Higgins on a double date to dish about the cheesy wannabe slasher/thriller “Valentine” starring Denise Richards, Marley Shelton, David Boreanaz, Katherine Heigl (kinda). Jessica Cauffiel and Jessica Capshaw. Listen as they discuss the unintentional hilarity of the main characters' apathy towards being stalked by a murder, the odd lack of gore and the haunting rhymes of Scary Gary. Who is the not-so-secret Valentine killer? Tune in to find out! Special thanks to Mallory Johns for the introduction music. Actress Melissa Ponzio joins The Art of Kindness with Robert Peterpaul to discuss the act of kindness that helped her book Teen Wolf, returning for Teen Wolf: The Movie, being inspired by Sigourney Weaver and much more. Melissa Ponzio spent most of her childhood clowning it up at school and impersonating her beloved family. Then late one night, the New York native City saw Sigourney Weaver in “Alien” and knew right then and there what she wanted to be…an alien! But they said she couldn't really be an alien, so on to the next best thing: acting! Over the years, Melissa's onscreen presence has captivated audiences across so many projects… seriously I could sit here naming them for the entire show: She's notably had recurring roles in the hit NBC series, “Chicago Fire,” AMC's “The Walking Dead,” HULU's “The Girl From Plainville,” BET+'s “First Wives Club,” Cinemax's “Banshee” and Lifetime's “Army Wives,” as well as a never-ending list of guest star roles. On the film front, she's been seen playing opposite Octavia Spencer and Melissa McCarthy in Thunder Force on Netflix, Hilary Swank in HBO's original film Mary and Martha and their historical drama “Warm Springs,” with Kenneth Branagh and Cynthia Nixon, and - throwback - in the comedy, “Life As We Know It,” with Josh Duhamel and Katherine Heigl. Of course, Melissa is now back on screen in the Paramount+ “Teen Wolf: The Movie” revival, reprising her beloved role as ‘Melissa McCall,' the hard-working and devoted single mother to ‘Scott' (played by Tyler Posey). She previously starred in the MTV “Teen Wolf” series for six seasons. Got kindness tips or stories? Costumes were by Catherine Marie Thomas (Kill Bill, The Proposal, The Flight Attendant) who designed the titular dresses that were so distinct and over-the-top, they received special nicknames from Thomas and her team, ranging from Gone With the Wind trash-fabulous, to a bright yellow “Peep's Dress,” a hot pink, ruffled “Bahama Mama,” and more. Other callouts: goth Krysten Ritter, Judy Greer as a scene-stealing BFF, hottie James Marsden.
