In this episode of The Leadership Sandbox, Tammy dives into the recent Cracker Barrel rebranding debacle. This corporate misstep, a $700 million gamble aimed at attracting a younger demographic, led to a 14% stock drop and a massive customer backlash. Tammy dissects the four major lies leaders told themselves that led to this catastrophic failure. You'll discover why a brand's most valuable asset lives in the memory and emotion of its customers—and what happens when you strip that away. This isn't just a story about a failed rebrand; it's a critical leadership lesson on the dangers of ignoring your core identity, failing to connect with your audience, and letting financial recklessness get disguised as innovation. Key Takeaways for Leaders Your Brand is an Emotion: A brand's value is rooted in nostalgia and emotional connection. Without it, your brand becomes soulless. The Cost of Ignoring Your Customer: Chasing a new market while alienating your core customer base is a recipe for disaster. Arrogance vs. Integrity: Long-term strategy without short-term integrity is just arrogance. Ignoring customer feedback to push a "modern" agenda is a critical failure of leadership. Financial Recklessness: Understand the difference between a sound investment in your brand and a financially reckless gamble disguised as modernization. In This Episode, You'll Learn: Why Cracker Barrel's $700 million rebrand led to a massive stock drop and customer backlash. The four communication lies leaders believed that led to this major misstep. How to prioritize brand integrity and emotional connection in your business strategy. Why ignoring customer sentiment is the most dangerous form of leadership. How to avoid being "dead right" by leading with both strategy and humility. Join us in the sandbox to explore the lies leaders tell themselves and how to avoid making a fatal mistake.

SummaryIn this discussion, Nick Cohen and former diplomat Arthur Snell explore the complex relationship between Donald Trump and Russia, examining evidence suggesting Trump may be serving Russian interests either knowingly or unwittingly. They analyze Christopher Steele's controversial intelligence work on Trump-Russia connections, noting that despite criticism, many of his key allegations have proven accurate according to subsequent investigations, including the Senate Intelligence Committee report. The conversation concludes by addressing concerns about Trump's deferential behaviour toward Putin, his appointment of pro-Russian officials to intelligence positions, and the implications for US-UK intelligence sharing should Trump return to power. In this discussion, Nick Cohen and former diplomat Arthur Snell explore the complex relationship between Donald Trump and Russia, examining evidence suggesting Trump may be serving Russian interests either knowingly or unwittingly. Arthur explains there's a spectrum of possibilities, from Trump being a recruited KGB/FSB asset to him being an unwitting "agent of influence" serving Russian interests. They note Trump's unusual connections to the Soviet bloc during the Cold War, including his 1987 Moscow visit and marriage to Ivana from Czechoslovakia, emphasising how rare it was for American businessmen to engage with communist countries at that time.Read all about it.Arthur Snell's substack column is Not all doom & his regular inciteful podcast is Behind the Lines. The guys start this hour reminiscing on the time they had to go to a lets just say “interesting” wrestling event, it's something they'd both like to forget! Tobin then gets into some Marlins talk as they completed their series versus the Red Sox over the weekend, and he shows Leroy the ridiculous almost catch that Myers had that then turned into a home run! We get a training camp report from the Dolphins, Matthew Judon visits practice, Tobin is interested to see the Week 1 matchup versus the Colts as they signed former Dolphin Xavien Howard and calls for Tua to carve him up! Leroy asks Tobin what he would like to see the Miami Heat's starting 5 to be this season, and that of course gives Tobin the ammo to circle back to the Jovi's performance in the Supercup! The gang then ends the show with our favorite Monday Game Alright! Oh No! Tobin gives the Swedish Swish his flowers, Leroy praises the Dolphins, and Jfig and Brittney get excited about a Taylor Swift announcement!

Gary Engels teaches business owners and entrepreneurs the disciplined sequence of steps that lead to lasting success. His wisdom isn't drawn from an MBA program or corporate leadership seminars — it's forged from decades on the mats. “Sensei Gary” is a serial entrepreneur, app creator, and a 4th-degree black belt in Taekwondo. Gary's list of ventures and partnerships is long. Among them, he is the founder of Leadership Academy, a martial arts school dedicated to developing leadership skills in students of all ages, and the creator of the Legacy Missions app, which helps users build positive daily habits. He also serves as CEO of MyGig, which connects businesses with essential services in accounting, marketing, HR, IT, and financial optimization. Unlike many entrepreneurs who obsess over selling, Gary has built his career on service. His approach begins with a simple question: “How can I help?” Service builds trust, trust builds relationships, and relationships drive revenue. It's a principle that has kept his martial arts school thriving for 20 years — a milestone that very few such schools attain. So, join us this week in the “Monday Morning Radio Dojo.” Remove your shoes, step onto the mat, and begin mastering the “business katas” that will make you a fierce marketplace competitor. Gavin Newsom's gerrymandering scheme, and the Department of Homeland Security reporting many illegal aliens have self-deported.First, after commenting on Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov appearing in Alaska wearing a CCCP sweater, they react to reports that two Chinese military ships collided at high speed as they tried to intimidate a much smaller military vessel from the Philippines. Jim says Beijing should use this as a chance to back off its territorial ambitions in the region but probably won't. They also discuss the mood in Taiwan amid recent rumors of a Chinese invasion.Next, they lampoon Gov. Newsom's bid to troll President Trump and Texas Republicans by proposing a ballot measure to undo California's constitutional requirement for an independent redistricting commission. But polling shows voters overwhelmingly oppose the scheme. Jim also underscores how brazen it is for Democrats to push such a move in one of the most heavily gerrymandered states in America. Finally, they welcome the DHS report that 1.6 million illegal aliens have voluntarily left the U.S. since Trump became president. This is additional proof that Trump's immigration policies are working. And they also explain how the left and its media allies are taking truly radical approaches to oppose the enforcement of immigration laws. Please visit our great sponsors:Sleep on an award-winning mattress from Brooklyn Bedding. #317 This week on iamGEEK episode 317, we fully intended on giving our review of the first half of season 2 of Wednesday on Netflix. However, due to Catron's lack of initiative, we ended up talking a little bit about Wednesday and a lot about everything else going on. One of the things that happened was that The Beak and Barrel dining reservations were supposed to go live this morning at 6am CST. Catron gives us the scoop on what happened and we discuss how Disney dining isn't as competitive as it used to be. Other topics included Grok, a walk-around Syndrome character, the new Spiderman movie WWE on ESPN, and so much more! BT discusses a glaring baserunning mistake by Pete Alonso, who failed to score from second base on a ball hit with two outs. BT points out that with a 3-2 count and two outs, a runner on second should be moving on the pitch, not on contact. This fundamental error, which BT attributes to a lack of baseball IQ and anticipation, is highlighted as a prime example of the "little things" that are piling up and costing the Mets games.

Shannon Bream joins the show to discuss President Trump's approach to global crises, particularly his upcoming summit with Vladimir Putin in Alaska. She praises Trump's instincts and contrasts them with Joe Biden's mismanagement that allowed Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Caroline Levitt's commentary on Fox underscores media criticism that Trump is “rolling the dice” with Putin, but Shannon and Mark defend the president's proactive diplomacy. They also examine the DC federal takeover, highlighting tensions between local liberal leaders resisting Republican oversight and the practical need for increased police presence amid rampant juvenile crime, including carjackings and shootings. Shannon previews Sunday's Fox News coverage, promising insights from inside the administration and updates on the Alaska summit.

Today's show exposes how Barron's ran an undisclosed advertorial from a high-fee bond fund manager pushing junk-heavy, risky products while trashing traditional bonds with misleading comparisons. Don and Tom explained why safe bonds should stay short-to-intermediate term and simple, called out a Starlink “$127 for life” internet scam, and fielded listener questions on tax-adjusted rebalancing between traditional and Roth IRAs, trimming long-held Microsoft vs. American Funds, Social Security timing myths, and why Bitcoin isn't an investment. In 1985, Coca-Cola changed its flavour. You probably know that this was a complete failure. ‘New Coke' was discontinued after just 79 days. But you probably don't know the true reason why New Coke failed. Many claim it was due to poor market research, but today's guest on Nudge, leading consumer behaviour expert Philip Graves, disagrees. Philip says New Coke failed not because the research was poor, but because market research is inherently flawed. Want to understand the biggest marketing blunder of the century? In this re-run popular episode, Carina and Cher discuss wardrobe malfunctions while running. Carina shares an embarrassing wardrobe story about a friend. They also talk about wardrobe pet peeves, including removable pads in sports bras and the issue of visibility. The conversation then shifts to the challenges of finding running shorts that work for women who have given birth, including issues of chafing and leakage. Carina and Cher express their desire to solve these problems and create running gear that caters to women's needs.
In a revealing conversation, former Mets GM Zack Scott was pressed about the infamous 2021 trade that sent a young Pete Crow-Armstrong to the Cubs for Javier Báez. Scott candidly explained the front office's thought process at the time, admitting that while they valued Crow-Armstrong's defense and makeup, they fundamentally missed on his offensive potential, specifically his power. He detailed how the team, in a "win-now" mode under new ownership, prioritized a veteran bat for a playoff push, and how the industry as a whole underestimated Crow-Armstrong's future stardom. This discussion offers a rare glimpse into the complex and often unforgiving world of baseball front office decision-making.
After the “gold standard” of federal economic data —the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics— issued revised job number for the Trump Economy showing a LOSS of 258,000 jobs for May and June and low job growth for July — factors the Federal Reserve was worried about to keep interest rates steady, Trump fired the nonpartisan lifetime government civil servant statistician and economist who reported the numbers, falsely claiming without any evidence that she “rigged” the numbers. Michael Popok reports that this scheme to undermine Federal economic data by Trump actually started in February when he closed the Federal Economic Statistics Advisory Committee and defunded the Bureau of Labor StAtistics. Join Jim and Greg for the Friday edition of the 3 Martini Lunch as they react to President Trump's firm opposition to a Palestinian state, a deeply disappointing July jobs report, and more glaring incompetence from Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and former Vice President Kamala Harris.First, they applaud Trump for refusing to follow France, Great Britain, and Canada in announcing their support for a Palestinian state. Trump says would be rewarding Hamas for its atrocities against Israel and beyond. Jim and Greg also explain why calls for establishing a Palestinian state with Mahmoud Abbas and Palestinian Authority is a horrible idea.Next, they shake their heads at the July jobs report, which shows just 73,000 jobs added, a number far below expectations. Making matters worse, numbers from May and June were revised down by more than 250,000. Jim suggests tariffs may be hurting job creation, and both he and Greg warn against using tariff revenues to send us all checks. Finally, they roll their eyes as Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass says the withdrawal of more National Guard personnel means they are in "retreat." Bass also cluelessly says he wants all military out of LA. Jim and Greg remind you that Bass was on Joe Biden's short list for vice president in 2020. Ultimately, that not went to Kamala Harris, who proved again on national television Thursday night, that she has no business being anywhere near the Oval Office. Please visit our great sponsors:No missed calls, no missed customers with OpenPhone. Dr. Benjamin (Ben) Balas is an MIT-educated professor of psychology at North Dakota State University, where his research focuses on visual recognition. He's also a passionate chess player who blogs frequently about the intersection of science and chess. On his popular LiChess blog, Ben (aka NDPatzer) has explored topics like whether streakiness exists in chess, the science of blunders, and how confirmation bias influences decision-making over the board.
