This week's Waypoints has us returning to horror from a new angle. First, we consider the domestic horror of Channel Zero: The Dream Door and what it has to say about the baggage we all carry, and how the past's survival tactics can become deadly as they follow us through life. Then we take a look at The Ballad of Black Tom by Victor LaValle, which reimagines a famously bigoted Lovecraft story through the eyes of a young black man. How do the horrors that tormented Lovecraft—the vast indifference of creation, the limits of science and reason—change when they're juxtaposed against the daily life of a Harlem hustler and the pervasive cruelty of the society he inhabits? Has it been two weeks or three weeks since we last recorded? Jack and Aaron disagree on these numbers (it's been two weeks, but whatever). Still, it doesn't really matter because we are back! Jack is back from Japan, Aaron has left his couch, there's a bunch of interesting TV news worth discussing, Rick Grimes didn't die, and somehow witches are once again all the rage! NEWS HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK: After Sunday's episode aired, AMC released the news that three "Walking Dead" TV movies are in development aimed at continuing Rick Grimes' story.  Vince Gilligan is developing a "Breaking Bad" movie that will allegedly follow the present story of Jesse Pinkman According to SlashFilm, the highly anticipated "Deadwood" movie has begun production with the majority of the original cast returning. HBO is hoping for a spring, 2019 premiere. John Logan, the creator of "Penny Dreadful," is bringing a new installment of the series to Showtime. "Penny Dreadful: City of Angels" will take place in 1938 Los Angeles. THR says it'll be "rooted in the conflict between characters connected to the deity Santa Muerte and others allied with the devil, City of Angels will explore a mix of the supernatural and the combustible reality of that period, creating new occult myths and moral dilemmas within a historical backdrop. The series will feature all new characters and storylines." Andy Bean and Derek Mears will play both sides of the antihero in DC Universe's "Swamp Thing" series. James Wan is executive producing the series which will debut sometime in 2019.
