With rare exceptions, The Nose doesn’t usually cover movies from the previous Oscar season once the actual Oscars have happened. But major world events are the sort of things for which one might break with tradition, and with the death of Pope Francis on April 21, we thought we might make an exception. Conclave is a 2024 political thriller melodrama based on the 2016 Robert Harris novel. It’s set at the Vatican and tells the story of the death of one pope and the election of the next. Conclave was nominated for eight Academy Awards this year, including Best Picture, Best Actor for Ralph Fiennes, and Best Supporting Actress for Isabella Rossellini. It won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay. And: MobLand is a British crime drama television series. It was originally developed for Showtime as a spinoff origin story for Ray Donovan. But it eventually morphed into the standalone gangster story that has become the most-watched series launch ever for Paramount+. It stars Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan, Paddy Considine, and Helen Mirren. Before he knew it, Christopher had created his path in features, working on such films as “City Slickers,” “Beaches” and “Bugsy,” the latter of which garnered the Academy Award® for Best Costume Design. Christopher came up through the ranks in the wardrobe department and quickly became one of the industry's top Costume Supervisors. In 1999, Michael Mann recognized Christopher's talent and promoted him to Associate Costume Designer on “The Insider” (Al Pacino, Russell Crowe), and Christopher has been designing films ever since. Some of the credits that followed were “The Anniversary Party” (Gwyneth Paltrow, Kevin Kline), “Showtime” (Robert De Niro, Eddie Murphy) and “S.W.A.T.” (Colin Farrell, Samuel L. Jackson). Christopher has become a favorite of Jason Statham, having designed “The Mechanic,” “Cellular” and “Crank” and is a longtime collaborator with film director Simon West, most notably on the Capital One “What's In Your Wallet?” Viking campaign, which won the Costume Designers Guild Award - Best Commercial Costume Design. Christopher teamed up yet again with Michael Mann on two additional projects, including the feature film “Texas Killing Fields” (starring Sam Worthington, Jessica Chastain and Chloe Grace Moretz). Christopher served as costume designer on the Jennifer Aniston film, “Management,” and from sketch to fabric he designed all of Miley Cyrus' Hannah Montana costumes for “Hannah Montana: The Movie,” from which dolls, Halloween costumes and sportswear were created for the tween market. “The Space Between Us” reunites Christopher with director Peter Chelsom who directed the Hannah Montana movie. Christopher was the costume designer for the first three seasons of the popular Showtime series “Ray Donovan,” for which he was twice nominated for a Costume Designers Guild award. It was his fifth nomination, having won twice for his commercial work. Recently, he was the Costume Designer for Bill Burr's OLD DADS.
In 1981 President Ronald Reagan appointed New Jersey businessman, Raymond J Donovan to his cabinet as Secretary of Labor, a position he served in until 1985. During his tenure, Donovan carried out Reagan's policies of advocating for free-market by reducing government regulation in labor issues. Donovan's tenure as Secretary of Labor was marked by controversy. He was accused of having ties to organized crime and in 1984, he was indicted on charges of larceny and fraud in connection with a construction company he had been involved with before his government service. However, after a lengthy trial, Donovan was acquitted of all charges in 1987. In this episode of Your History Your Story, we will be speaking with Donovan's son, Ken, who will give us insight into the life of his father, including his challenging start in life, his success as a businessman, his political prominence in the Reagan campaign and his heart for his family and philanthropic causes. Dominique plays the role of "Reef," a strong, unique and competitive person to "Dalton" (Jake Gyllenhaal) and "Billy" (Lucas Gage) in and out of the Roadhouse. Reef, who is an experienced boxer in college, peaks Dalton's interest to bring him on board and work side by side with "Billy" (Lucas Gage). This establishes a trustworthy dynamic and friendship between all three of them as you will see throughout the film. Dalton's biggest challenge is fighting off the bad seeds in the Roadhouse with the help of Reef and Billy. Roadhouse is set to premiere on March 21st, 2024 on Amazon Prime. After 35 years from its original, the remake of Roadhouse is coming to your screens, which stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Dalton and UFC superstar Conor McGregor in his first acting debut. Roadhouse, directed by the amazing, Doug Liman, who gave us films like The Bourne Identity and Edge of Tomorrow, is a reimagining of the 1989 cult film by the same name. The original Roadhouse starred the incredible and remarkable Patrick Swayze as Dalton, a renowned “cooler” with a mysterious past who is hired to take over security at a club in Jasper, Missouri, named the Double Deuce. Dalton quickly makes his presence known as an incorruptible and dangerous force able to stand toe-to-toe with any man before him. This new feature stars Jake as a former UFC fighter struggling to make ends meet. After the owner of a Florida Keys roadhouse finds him sleeping in his car, Elwood Dalton becomes a bouncer and finds himself roped into a war of outlaws and bikers (including actual mixed martial artist, turned first-time actor, Conor McGregor) and a developer determined to build a lavish resort for the rich jerks. You might recognize Dom from the hit EMMY nominated series, Ray Donovan, as series regular Damon King. The street-smart, homeless teenager with quick hands and boxing skills. After a year long run on the series, Dom acted alongside some great names like Liev Schrieber, Eddie Marsan, Jon Voight, Paula Malcomson, and many more. You can still see Dom in Brad Furman's feature, City of Lies, as Tyrell which investigates the murder of rapper Notorious B.I.G and stars some heavy hitters along with Columbus, Johnny Depp and Forrest Whitaker. In 2003, the USO honored her with its Spirit of Hope award, and in 2005, she appeared at the Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada, to welcome troops home from Iraq and Afghanistan. And now, she's produced a new Ann-Margret perfume, available online at ANNMARGRETPERFUME.COM, with all profits going to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund. Last year, she was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Nevada. And she's also been awarded the highest honor from her native Sweden. She's a Commander of the Royal Order of the Polar Star. And most recently, she received the Living Legend Award from the Women's Image Network. And if all of that weren't enough, let me add that Empire magazine ranked our guest as number 10 on its list of the 100 Sexiest movie stars all time. Chad Feehan's parents took him to the movies nearly every single weekend. “They didn't have much of a filter,” he joked about seeing heavy movies at a young age. “In my early teens, Tarantino exploded with Reservoir Dogs and Robert Rodriguez exploded with El Mariachi. I saw that not only did people get paid to make movies, but they could come from Texas.” As a screenwriter, he's known for Paranormal Activity 4, Southland, Rectify, Banshee Origins, Banshee, Ray Donovan and Lawmen: Bass Reeves where he's also the creator. The recent story follows, “Legendary lawman Bass Reeves, one of the greatest frontier heroes and one of the first Black deputy U.S. marshals west of the Mississippi River.” In this interview, Feehan talks about low budget single setting films, going to AFI as a producer with Sam Esmail, getting discovered on the Blacklist, early mentors in the business, understanding the vernacular of Texas, and how shows from people like Taylor Sheridan are tapping into unmet needs for a hopeful, optimistic audience. “I grew up as a huge fan of Westerns but the reality of the landscape at the time was that it was incredibly diverse. And we've rarely seen that diversity on screen. I feel incredibly fortunate and humbled by the opportunity to show what life was really like in Indian territory in 1875. That it was a melting pot of cultures and races. It speaks to the beauty of Reconstruction,” says Chad Feehan, showrunner for Lawmen: Bass Reeves on Paramount+. The show is part of the highly successful Taylor Sheridan television landscape, that includes shows like Yellowstone and 1883. On today's episode, I speak to Chad about taking on the historical figure of Bass Reeves (played by David Oyelowo), who lived during America's Reconstruction period that is rarely depicted in film or TV. Though Chad and Bass come from very different backgrounds, Chad says he was able to write the character of Bass by focusing on the big emotions the two men shared. He gives this advice about writing people different than yourself: “Tap into your deepest emotions and find a way to relate them to what the character is going through. I think a lot of times when, you start writing, you try to imagine emotions, right? But the range of emotions that we all feel is relatively universal. They just take different shapes and sizes, right? We all know what heartbreak is, we all know what joy is. Tap into that and then transpose it into a situation that the character is also experiencing, if that makes sense. I learned about sudden loss with my mom. I've learned about deep-seated overwhelming love through my children and that emotion is universal,” he says. To hear more about Chad Feehan's background, working on the FX show, Ray Donovan, and his overall writing process, listen to the podcast.

Rudy Giuliani comments on Federal prosecutors ending their Ukraine-related investigation without filing criminal charges after more than two years. The former New York City Mayor comments, “In the words of former Secretary of Labor, Ray Donovan, ‘where do I go to get my reputation back?' Now, I'm not going to go into detail, but I know that case, I was an associate of the Attorney General, who knew that [Donovan] was innocent. And he went through five years of being tortured, eventually was cleared by a special prosecutor, and then prosecuted by the Bronx District Attorney and acquitted again. So where do I go to get my reputation back? Why don't I go to get my lost clients back? Where do I go to get the $3-4 million they cost me, legal fees, damaged other parts of my business. I mean, they've virtually ruined my law practice, and played a part in the equally absurd and unconstitutional suspension of my law license, which makes it even more outrageous.”See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
