The most famous haunted house in America is a large Dutch Colonial family home that became a bestseller, super-successful horror movie and a franchise that has spawned over 60 movies (and counting). And it's all based…on a con. Together with horror critic Jenn Addams, FANGORIA editor-in-chief Phil Nobile Jr. and Bloody Disgusting critic Joe Lipsett, who is possibly the only person in the world to have watched all the Amityville films, guest host Anna tracks how one haunted house movie became a modern folk story.Season 6, titled Haunted Homes, explores how haunted house movies have mirrored our relationship with our homes. Each episode visits a horror movie that changed the way we imagine a haunted house, from the crumbling Gothic mansions to white picket fences, what it says about the people who live in the houses and what scares them the most.  Guest written and hosted by Anna Bogutskaya. Colin Eggleston's psychological thriller, written by Everett De Roche (of 'Patrick' and 'Razorback' fame), won prizes on the festival circuit and is fondly remembered by filmmakers like Quentin Tarantino, but it's been largely forgotten since. Does this Ozploitation revenge-of-nature horror deserve its day at the beach? Tune in as this show kicks off a new theme month for all of May: the Rebecca Hall of Fame! For this first podcast of the month to honor one of Arthur's all-time favorite actors, Joe Lipsett (Horror Queers, Hazel & Katniss & Harry & Starr) is returning to the guest chair for a breakdown of Red Riding: The Year of Our Lord 1974, the 2009 period crime drama-thriller that stands as the first film entry in a limited series made for British television called the Red Riding Trilogy. The bleak and nihilistic territory that this series boldly treads into, the surprising amount of homoerotic undertones in 1974, and some gripes with a divisive little filmmaker known as Zack Snyder comprise just a few of the talking points for this episode. Directed by Julian Jarrold, Red Riding: The Year of Our Lord 1974 stars Andrew Garfield, Rebecca Hall, Sean Bean, Warren Clarke, John Henshaw, Anthony Flanagan, Robert Sheehan, Eddie Marsan, Sean Harris, Tony Mooney, Steven Robertson, Cathryn Bradshaw, David Morrissey, Michelle Dockery, Daniel Mays, Peter Mullan, and Mary Jo Randle. Welcome to the Silent Hill Appreciation Day Special!Joe Lipsett from Horror Queers (and BoH Alum - S2E1) was kind enough to reach out to me about being featured during their October Watch Calendar. We were tasked with picking a date, and a theme. I, of course, went against the grain and chose a game franchise.Silent Hill has been an integral part of my development as an artist and horror scholar. This episode serves as a love letter to the franchise. I will explain why it means so much to me, as well as provide you all with a list of films to check out today in honor of the sleepy, foggy nightmare that is SILENT HILL.Notes:- Masahiro Ito (visual designer for Silent Hill)- Akira Yamaoka (audio design for Silent Hill)- “The Road to Paradise: Silent Hill 3 and my Gender Fluidity” for Gayly Helpful 2021- Joe Lipsett- #HQSpookySeason

We are tipping over the trashcan this week on Kill By Kill, as we descend into the allegorical, the phantasmagorical, and the uncanniest valley-cal as we desperately try to make any kind of sense out of the truly terrifying CATS. Yes, that CATS! You asked for it. You demanded it! Now we all have to suffer for it as we explore the madness of constant ear-twitching, the terror of unzipping your own skin as a costume change, and the unnerving intensity of Dame Judy Dench's unflinching stare as she informs everyone within her telekinetic gaze that “a cat is not a dog.” Don't worry though, you'll learn EVERYTHING ELSE about what a cat is, from pure anarchy to needlessly oversexed, we break it all down just as we ourselves begin to break down. Who is “Cat-sona non grata?” Are we seeing too much dick or not nearly enough? Why are all the cats so concerned about class when NONE OF THEM HAVE MONEY?! From death cults to raging incels, CATS has it all and needs to give 80 to 125% of it back! Make no mistake, this podcast is now divided into two distinct eras: pre-CATS and post-CATS. This week on Hammer Pub, your hosts will still be sitting down with yet another marvelous Hammer horror film while having a few drinks and providing a running commentary on a gothic horror classic.  This week, they’re joined by guest Trace Thurman, who’s known for being one half of the Horror Queers podcast (with cohost Joe Lipsett), as well as writing for Bloody Disgusting and Consequence of Sound. During this week’s discussion, the gang find themselves warding off the slithering advances of THE REPTILE.  Before their commentary, the trio chats I Know What You Did Last Summer, their recent watches (Paul Dood’s Deadly Lunch Break, the Resident Evil series, Wrong Turn, Texas Chainsaw ’03, The Fear, Dementer)  and…the surprising amount of horror films that have been made before/during the pandemic? Once the film begins, the three discuss their overall feelings on the film, its surprising racist undertones, the depiction of the villains in Rob Zombie films, their drinks of choice, and the state of current Hammer and modern gothic horror films, and Doctor Who! It’s something a little different for Scream Addicts, but it’s a commentary we hope you’ll love! It's a twisty turny tale of sex, inheritances, Chernobyl-level stock market meltdowns and murder with a meat thermometer – but does it deserve to get away from the oubliette scot-free or should it be permanently lost along with Gwyneth's apartment key?
