Bedtime Stories for kids with Mr. Jim

Hello friends, are you getting ready for bed? Let's make sure we've brushed our teeth and washed our hands. Oh and don't forget your comfy things. Now it's time for the perfect bedtime story. About Mr. Jim: Hi! I'm Jim Jacob, a South Carolina based creator. I started as a podcaster by accident. Our first real episodes on the internet were me trying to find a solution to help tell my sons stories as I was traveling for work. I recorded some stories and hoped that by uploading them to a podcast app, my wife and kids could have easy access to listen. What started as a fix for our family's bedtime routine interruption has grown into a worldwide audience with hundreds of thousands of listeners. My wife Jocelyn and I have 3 kids and love inspiring others towards greater imagination and curiosity. "Barns burnt down, now I can see the moon" -Mizuta Masahide Grab a cuppa and come listen to this beautiful conversation with author Deana Casella. After a tragic accident threw her young family's world upside down, Deana and her husband Anthony had to find a new normal. Armed with a contagious attitude of gratitude and her spirit of adventure, Deana and her family weathered some really hard seasons. And almost 30 years later, when Anthony is wrestling through a dark season, Deana has a crazy idea. What if they take some time to reconnect in one of their favorite ways: travel! The story of their adventures on a 4-month world cruise will inspire you to take your next adventurous next steps and chase the moon! Here's the book's description: "What if when at the age of 50 you had a chance to take a “gap year.”? A year off to do anything you wanted, a chance to live the life of your wildest dreams and take a trip around the world? 33,000 miles, 26 countries in 115 days This is that story. Chasing the Moon is a powerful, intimate and honest memoir about love, loss, miracles and lots of magic. About living life to the fullest and the transformative power of travel. Author Deana Casella shares her story and her travel journals from this extraordinary journey circumnavigating the world. Chasing the Moon is a collection of stories about favorite places visited, the incredible people she met along the way and the stories that were shared. But nothing is quite so simple as that. Taking this chance did not come without difficult lessons learned early in life. Lessons that taught her not to take one moment of this precious life for granted. To say yes to every opportunity. To say yes to adventure. To chase the moon." There's even a surprise drop-in by her husband, Anthony, in the episode! 2019 was a year full of politics, historic anniversaries and ever changing industries here in Florida. This week on Florida Matters we take a look back at a few stories that helped shape our area. There were so many great stories we feature on Florida Matters it was hard to choose which ones to highlight in our year in review. Our Host, Robin Sussingham talked with then newly elected Tampa Mayor, Jane Castor. Mayor Castor served on Tampa's police force for 31 years, and became the first female police chief in 2009. In 2019 Tampa voters chose her to to become their mayor in a run-off election against the late David Straz. In our conversation with Mayor, she talks about the issues facing Tampa. Back in March we learned about the eve changing seafood industry in Florida. We sat down with Ed Chiles the son of the late Governor, Lawton Chiles. Ed owns several seafood restaurants in the area and is the founder of the Gulf Shellfish Institute in Manatee County. Ed talked about the water quality surrounding Tampa Bay and the ideal conditions for raising clams. It was the 50th anniversay of the Appollo 11 moon lading this past July. We had a chance to talk with Robert Stone, the writer, producer, and director of a 6 hour documentary, "Chasing the Moon," which aired on PBS. The documentary chronicled America's space race leading up to the first Lunar Landing and beyond. Citrus has shaped our states identity for 100 years. But it has been a tough ten years with freezes, hurricanes, developmental pressure and greening. We caught up with Mike Sparks the CEO of Florida Citrus Mutual and Kevin Bouffard, a senior reporter at the Ledger. In this segment, Kevin talks about the Citrus Research and Filed Trials better know as CRAFT. Lastly, we listen to former Senator Bill Nelson. In a rear appearance, Nelson recently spoke at Southeastern University in Lakeland. Where he was presented with an award for his long public service by the American Center for Political Leadership.

Welcome To The Party Pal: The Mind-Bending Film & Television Podcast You Didn't Know You Needed!

Episode 32 delves into Chasing the Moon, a film by Robert Stone, a six-hour documentary series about the space race that journeys from its earliest beginnings to the monumental achievement of the first lunar landing in 1969 and beyond. Chasing the Moon thoroughly reimagines the race to the moon for a new generation, upending much of the conventional mythology surrounding the effort. The three-part series recasts the Space Age as a fascinating stew of scientific innovation and PR savvy, political calculation and media spectacle, visionary impulses and personal drama. While other documentaries have largely painted a familiar narrative of goals set, obstacles overcome, disasters averted and missions accomplished, Chasing the Moon tells a vastly more entertaining and surprising story. As the film reveals, the drive to land a man on the moon was fueled as much by politics as it was by technology and was a controversial undertaking during a volatile time. To thoroughly examine the impressiveness of Chasing The Moon, this episode features an interview with its producer/writer/director Robert Stone. Robert Stone is a multi-award-winning, Oscar-nominated and Emmy-nominated documentary filmmaker. Born in England, he grew up in both Europe and America. After graduating with a degree in history from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he moved to New York City in 1983 to pursue a career in filmmaking. He gained considerable recognition for his first film, Radio Bikini (1987), which premiered at Sundance, was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Feature Documentary and was the first of his seven films to premiere on American Experience. His best-known works includes Guerrilla: The Taking of Patty Hearst (2004), which premiered at Sundance and went on to become one of the most highly acclaimed theatrical documentaries of the year. That was followed by the documentary feature Oswald’s Ghost (2007), for which Stone earned a second Emmy nomination for Outstanding Achievement in Non-Fiction Filmmaking. Earth Days was the Closing Night Film at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival and was released theatrically to wide critical acclaim. His next film, Pandora’s Promise, premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, won the prestigious Green Award at the Sheffield Documentary Film Festival and was broadcast on CNN in 2013. In addition to Radio Bikini, Guerrilla, Oswald’s Ghost and Earth Days, Stone also produced The Satellite Sky, Civilian Conservation Corps and Cold War Roadshow for American Experience. On this episode, 90.7’s Matthew Peddie talks to Stone about the politics behind the moon shot, and the parallels between the space race last century and the Trump administration’s goal of returning astronauts to the moon. Emily Ritz and Honeycomb are one of our favorite new bands in the San Francisco music scene. Miss Ritz, a self taught musician, brings a unique finger style and odd meters to her ukulele playing. In less than a year, Honeycomb has become a true collaboration, now living together in their outer mission hive.Look out for performances from several familiar Chasing The Moon alumni: including Andrew Maguire’s fierce percussion playing, and Kacey Johansing’s sweet vocals tempering Emily’s feral lead.

John Vanderslice hardly needs an introduction. For the past ten years he’s been more influential in building the San Francisco music community than perhaps anybody else. His music is loved around the world, and his recording studio, Tiny Telephone, continues to be the spot for independent bands to record some of the best records of the past decade. We’re so honored to feature him, along with Jamie Riotto on bass, for the latest episode of Chasing The Moon.
