Hello friends, are you getting ready for bed? Let's make sure we've brushed our teeth and washed our hands. Oh and don't forget your comfy things. Now it's time for the perfect bedtime story. About Mr. Jim: Hi! I'm Jim Jacob, a South Carolina based creator. I started as a podcaster by accident. Our first real episodes on the internet were me trying to find a solution to help tell my sons stories as I was traveling for work. I recorded some stories and hoped that by uploading them to a podcast app, my wife and kids could have easy access to listen. What started as a fix for our family's bedtime routine interruption has grown into a worldwide audience with hundreds of thousands of listeners. My wife Jocelyn and I have 3 kids and love inspiring others towards greater imagination and curiosity. Welcome To The Party Pal: The Mind-Bending Film & Television Podcast You Didn't Know You Needed!
Episode 32 delves into Chasing the Moon, a film by Robert Stone, a six-hour documentary series about the space race that journeys from its earliest beginnings to the monumental achievement of the first lunar landing in 1969 and beyond. Chasing the Moon thoroughly reimagines the race to the moon for a new generation, upending much of the conventional mythology surrounding the effort. The three-part series recasts the Space Age as a fascinating stew of scientific innovation and PR savvy, political calculation and media spectacle, visionary impulses and personal drama. While other documentaries have largely painted a familiar narrative of goals set, obstacles overcome, disasters averted and missions accomplished, Chasing the Moon tells a vastly more entertaining and surprising story. As the film reveals, the drive to land a man on the moon was fueled as much by politics as it was by technology and was a controversial undertaking during a volatile time. To thoroughly examine the impressiveness of Chasing The Moon, this episode features an interview with its producer/writer/director Robert Stone. Robert Stone is a multi-award-winning, Oscar-nominated and Emmy-nominated documentary filmmaker. Born in England, he grew up in both Europe and America. After graduating with a degree in history from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he moved to New York City in 1983 to pursue a career in filmmaking. He gained considerable recognition for his first film, Radio Bikini (1987), which premiered at Sundance, was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Feature Documentary and was the first of his seven films to premiere on American Experience. His best-known works includes Guerrilla: The Taking of Patty Hearst (2004), which premiered at Sundance and went on to become one of the most highly acclaimed theatrical documentaries of the year. That was followed by the documentary feature Oswald’s Ghost (2007), for which Stone earned a second Emmy nomination for Outstanding Achievement in Non-Fiction Filmmaking. Earth Days was the Closing Night Film at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival and was released theatrically to wide critical acclaim. His next film, Pandora’s Promise, premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, won the prestigious Green Award at the Sheffield Documentary Film Festival and was broadcast on CNN in 2013. In addition to Radio Bikini, Guerrilla, Oswald’s Ghost and Earth Days, Stone also produced The Satellite Sky, Civilian Conservation Corps and Cold War Roadshow for American Experience. This memorable interview was done in the studios of WGTD back in 2000 when Sergei Khrushchev, the son of Soviet premier Nikita Khrushchev, visited the campus of Carthage College. Not long before his visit, he had written a book about his father titled "Nikita Khrushchev and the Creation of a Super Power." Sergei Khrushchev had a hand in the Soviet space program and knew many of its principal players. Sergei Khrushchev is a featured guest in the new American Experience documentary "Chasing The Moon."

Apollo 16 astronaut Charles Duke joins documentary producer/director Robert Stone to talk with Walter Edgar about the Space Race of the 1960s, and about making the documentary Chasing the Moon.
This summer marks fifty years since the first humans set foot on the moon. A generation of Americans vividly remembers the fuzzy black and white images of those first steps that were beamed back to their television sets from the moon. In a six hour documentary Chasing The Moon, which debuts on PBS next month, filmmaker Robert Stone tells the story of the space race from its beginnings to the lunar landing. On this episode, 90.7’s Matthew Peddie talks to Stone about the politics behind the moon shot, and the parallels between the space race last century and the Trump administration’s goal of returning astronauts to the moon. Emily Ritz and Honeycomb are one of our favorite new bands in the San Francisco music scene. Miss Ritz, a self taught musician, brings a unique finger style and odd meters to her ukulele playing. In less than a year, Honeycomb has become a true collaboration, now living together in their outer mission hive.Look out for performances from several familiar Chasing The Moon alumni: including Andrew Maguire’s fierce percussion playing, and Kacey Johansing’s sweet vocals tempering Emily’s feral lead.

Kacey Johansing has had an important influence on the vision and direction of Chasing The Moon since it was barely an idea, so it's only fitting to begin our second season with her lovely music! She put together an incredible crew of musicians for this performance, including Emily Ritz improvising a dazzling light show on the overhead projector.

John Vanderslice hardly needs an introduction. For the past ten years he’s been more influential in building the San Francisco music community than perhaps anybody else. His music is loved around the world, and his recording studio, Tiny Telephone, continues to be the spot for independent bands to record some of the best records of the past decade. We’re so honored to feature him, along with Jamie Riotto on bass, for the latest episode of Chasing The Moon.

Welcome, this is the first episode of Chasing the Moon. We're so pleased to start two-thousand-nine with Indianna Hale, who came to the studio with a supporting cast that included Sleepy Todd, Matt Adams, and Thomas Edler. Our plan with this blog is to have new episodes to release in time for each full moon.
