Wait til you hear about our NFL ring ceremony concept...Jonah is back in from his Fresh year of college and contributes in a big way. Maria can best be described as mildly bemused and tolerant as the guys propose the following:1) What would you do if you had the Stanley Cup for a day?2) A total reimagining of the NFL Super Bowl ring ceremony. What if NFL Super Bowl rings were turned over every year like the Stanley Cup? 50 yard line, previous winners line up across from new winners and (Benny Hill theme starts playing) each player has to find another one to wear his ring.Would there be Red Carpet event fan overlap for the Super Bowl if there was a week long leadup with players discussing the rings, their potential outfits for the ceremony and who their potential targets might be?If this sounds to you like it might be a terrible idea, maybe you need to ask yourself this question: “If Elvis Grbac, 1994 Michigan Wolverines starting QB, thinks its a great idea...is it possible that maybe I’m the one missing the point?”*If you are an NFL athlete or know an NFL athlete, please explain to us why or how you think this will be successful and who to contact to make it work.*To date, Elvis Grbac is definitely unaware of this idea and may or may not think it’s a good idea. Please visit us at https://thetragedyacademy.com On social media, you can find us at @thetragedyacademypodcast on Instagram, The Tragedy Academy Podcast on Facebook, and @tragedy_academy on Twitter. This past week was a busy time for the NHL and the Anaheim Ducks were no exception either. The Ducks lost Clayton Stoner and Shea Theodore in the Expansion Draft. There are also reports that Nate Thompson, Jonathan Bernier, and Jhonas Enroth could test the free agent market and may not return to Anaheim. Emerson Etem and Ryan Faragher are also set to become unrestricted free agents on July 1st as they both weren't given a qualifying offer. The Ducks are going to look to add some pieces to make another great run in the 2017-18 season. On this show, we talk about what other players the Ducks could add to their roster. Anaheim did re-sign Patrick Eaves for three more years and also Korbinian Holzer for two more years, but they still need to add more. We also talk about the NHL Entry Draft, Ducks player updates, and the announcement of Teemu Selanne and Paul Kariya being named to the Hockey Hall of Hame.
The Anaheim Ducks beat the Calgary Flames in four games in the first round. In round two, the Ducks then beat the Edmonton Oilers in seven games and now are set to face the Nashville Predators in the Western Conference Final. On this show, we break down the regular season between the Ducks and Predators. We also look at both the Ducks and Predators playoff performances so far as part of our Western Conference Final preview. The Ducks are still missing a few players from their lineup. According to GM Bob Murray, it appears Kevin Bieksa could be back soon. Patrick Eaves is working out and might return at some point this series. Murray also said Clayton Stoner is an available option.
The Anaheim Ducks beat the Calgary Flames in four games, sweeping them out of the first round of the playoffs. The Ducks are now set to face the Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers knocked the San Jose Sharks out of the playoffs in six games. On this show, we break down the regular season numbers between the Ducks and Oilers. We look at both the Ducks and Oilers playoff performances so far as part of our second round preview. We provide several player updates including Cam Fowler, Clayton Stoner, and Simon Despres. Lastly, we take a look at the other three playoff series and share our thoughts on who will prevail in each matchup.
The Anaheim Ducks placed Clayton Stoner on the Long-Term Injury Reserve(LTIR) per CapFriendly.com. Stoner had abdominal surgery in December and was slated to be out 4-6 weeks, but now it appears it will be longer. Anaheim currently has about $2.8 million in cap space as the trade deadline approaches. On this week's podcast, we explore some trade partners the Ducks could make deals with. Anaheim had struggled with scoring goals consistently in the recent weeks and a trade for a scoring forward appears imminent. We cover injury news and how it will affect potential trades for the Ducks. We also look at the rest of the road trip and discuss how the Ducks can generate more offense. Lastly, we share our thoughts on how far this Ducks team can go in the playoffs this season.
Making it through the holidays with no one to talk hockey with sure was hard. The season has continued to take its toll on the health of California players: Toffoli’s mysteriously ailing, Vlasic took a slapshot to the face, and Clayton Stoner is playing bear hunting games at home while recovering from abdominal surgery. The Sharks division lead has narrowed, and pretty much everybody but Arizona has a shot at the playoffs at the moment. Yes, even you, Vancouver. Also covered: Jacob is a trumpet, Steve Downie is now the hockey world’s most unpredictable pundit, and Minnesota-Columbus was the hypest game of the season so far (WHO’DA THUNK IT?!?) Episode 2 includes preseason updates, goal highlights, interviews with Clayton Stoner and Sam Steel and more.
This past weekend Teemu Selanne played in the Athletic Sports Fund of America's(ASFA) Fedorin Cup. Selanne was a last minute addition to the game and he didn't disappoint the fans. He nearly scored a hat trick and almost tied the game on the final shootout attempt. Current Anaheim Ducks Ryan Getzlaf, Andrew Cogliano, and Clayton Stoner also participated in the event. Selanne joins our show to talk about the Fedorin Cup, the Anaheim Ducks, his future, and more. We continue the show by providing updates on Antoine Vermette, Rickard Rakell, Tim Jackman, and Sudarshan Maharaj. We also discuss the World Cup of Hockey, Ducks night at Angel Stadium, and J.D. Power's recent fan study.
The Anaheim Ducks beat the Boston Bruins 6-2 just before the All-Star break to extend their winning streak to three games. Anaheim sits in fourth place in the Pacific Division, just two points behind the Arizona Coyotes with two games in hand. This coming week the Ducks play Arizona, San Jose, and Los Angeles, which are the three teams ahead of them. Eddy and I discuss the Ducks recent success on ice and the issues off ice. We discuss the Shawn Horcoff and Clayton Stoner situations and how they may affect the Ducks in terms of future trades. Lastly, we discuss the All-Star weekend and the impact of John Scott. We also discuss how Corey Perry and John Gibson helped lead the Pacific team to victory in the 3-on-3 tournament.

Many Ducks players (former and current) were in the news this past week. Eddy and I provide updates on Matt Beleskey, Ryan Whitney, Todd Ewen, and Clayton Stoner. We also provides updates from the Anaheim Ducks training camp as several of our staff including myself have attended some of the day's practices. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.
Patrick Kane appreciates your questions and appreciates this week's podcast! Geeta, P Mac and Ryan gather this week to talk about of all things, New York Islanders camp? Okay, well just Josh Ho-Sang getting sent home on the first day for being late thus living up to his reputation that plagued him on draft day in 2014. They also look at the awkward Patrick Kane press conference and look at another player facing legal troubles, Clayton Stoner, who's currently facing charges related to illegally killing a bear. Friend of the show and CBC reporter Brady Strachan joins us to talk about covering the Young Stars Tournament in Penticton, Nic Petan and growing up in the same town as Ed Belfour. Finally, the gang talks about the Maple Leafs' new hair and shaving policies that carried over from the Devils, The Penguins' taste in music and the metal detectors coming to Rogers Arena and all 30 buildings around the NHL. Enjoy!
Since the off season the Anaheim Ducks have several players to their roster. Anaheim traded for Carl Hagelin from the New York Rangers and then traded for Kevin Bieksa from the Vancouver Canucks. The Ducks then added free agent Shawn Horcoff with a one year deal to help fill Nate Thompson's spot while he is out for the first couple of months of the season. Most recently the Ducks signed free agents Brian McGrattan and Chris Stewart. If you look at the Ducks roster now, then you will notice it is filled with tough guys. Last season Tim Jackman and Chris Stewart both had 11th fights which was 7th in the league. Clayton Stoner was right behind them with 10 fights last year. Patrick Maroon engaged in 9 fights last season. Kevin Bieksa was in just 4 fights last year, but he usually engages in about 6-7 a year. The total number of fights between these five players was 45 last year, which is the same number the ENTIRE Ducks team had last season. The Ducks squad was 6th highest in the league for number of fights. Also McGrattan was added to the team, but he mainly played in the AHL last season and had just one fight. In his career he has had 258 fights (Includes NHL, AHL, & OHL). He averages 14 fights per season. So does this mean we have an Anaheim Fight Club? Eddy and I tackle this issue and discuss the recent signings of Stewart and McGrattan. We also answer several fans questions. Lastly we discuss some news around the NHL as well.
Hockey fans love to chant "Ref You SUCK! Ref You SUCK!" at NHL hockey rinks when the referee makes a poor call. On this week's podcast we have owner and founder Brian Gilmore join our show. Brian tells us the story behind his RefYouSuck.com business and how it was started. Brian then stays on the show with Eddy Jones and I as we discuss the recent Anaheim Ducks' news, including the signing of Patrick Maroon and Nick Ritchie and the huge offer made to Teemu Selanne. This week we answered questions about Clayton Stoner, the Ducks' defense, what went wrong in the playoffs last year, and an interesting question comparing the Mike Babcock and Randy Carlyle. We then finish podcast with some news around the NHL.
