Amanda Seales and Shannon Sharpe continue to engage in a candid and thought-provoking dialogue that touches on a myriad of topics, from navigating the highs and lows of the entertainment industry to the complexities of personal relationships. Amanda recounts how she got her start in radio as a result of her poetry, having her first interview while working for Sirius be of OutKast, and how industry politics involving Jay-Z and Pusha T ultimately got her fired from Sirius. Continuing on the subject of industry politics, Amanda shares the time she was kicked out of the Black Emmy's party because Issa Rae's publicist wanted her gone, which led to a scuffle and confusion. Amanda goes further into the tumultuous relationship she's had with Issa Rae's publicist over the years and how it's spilled over into her work on Insecure, which created a work environment that ultimately has led Amanda to disagree with Lil Rel's opinion that Issa creates environments that empower women. Amanda also touches on other sets and productions like Bring the Funny, The Real, hosting the BET Awards during COVID, and working with Kevin Hart. Amanda also discusses Queen Latifah coming to her defense, Candace Owens, Emmanuel Acho's comments about Angel Reese, and how her expectations for dating differ drastically from Shannon's. This second portion of the interview is a testament to Amanda's unwavering courage and resilience, as well as her commitment to speaking truth to power in pursuit of justice and authenticity. #VolumeSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The three reflect on their dynamic as a comedy group and their formula for their comedy music. The three recall their turning points in terms of taking themselves seriously as a comedy band and pursuing bigger things for their group, which include opening for Garfunkel and Oates at a music festival in 2016 and getting amazing reception from their audience and doing one-take videos on TikTok. For a long time, the group struggled with how they came across to some people, but today, they can confidently say that they're a musical theatre comedy act. They also give an overview of "Lewberger & The Wizard of Friendship", an interactive comedy show best described as “wildly theatrical” that had a successful Off-Broadway run. Comedian Erica Rhodes joins the podcast to talk about love, loss, and of course, laughter. Erica is the best comedian I've been in a car accident with. She has had a successful career doing stand up and performing, starting with appearances on "A Prairie Home Companion" alongside actors like Alison Janney, Martin Sheen and Meryl Streep. Since then she's toured the world, and released her album "Sad Lemon" and appeared on NBC's "Bring The Funny." We talk about what it's like recording a stand up special during the pandemic, which she did this Summer at the Rose Bowl. And life during lockdown, including our adventures going to get oxygenated baths and toilet paper right before everything changed. We also talk about the tough parts of pandemic, including saying goodbye to loved ones. Finding closure in difficult situations. And what we've learned about grief and love. We also give advice on dating, navigating toxic relationships and dodging men who have “your best interest” at heart. If a guy says this to you, RUN. Also, career advice! How to collaborate with your friends and how to make teamwork actually work, and not freaking out on your business partners. How to find effective partnerships with co-writers and managers. How to keep momentum in creative projects, and why it's important to turn hope into celebrations. Oh and the what to do if you get into a car accident right before a pitch meeting! Wait til you hear about our NFL ring ceremony concept...Jonah is back in from his Fresh year of college and contributes in a big way. Maria can best be described as mildly bemused and tolerant as the guys propose the following:1) What would you do if you had the Stanley Cup for a day?2) A total reimagining of the NFL Super Bowl ring ceremony. What if NFL Super Bowl rings were turned over every year like the Stanley Cup? 50 yard line, previous winners line up across from new winners and (Benny Hill theme starts playing) each player has to find another one to wear his ring.Would there be Red Carpet event fan overlap for the Super Bowl if there was a week long leadup with players discussing the rings, their potential outfits for the ceremony and who their potential targets might be?If this sounds to you like it might be a terrible idea, maybe you need to ask yourself this question: “If Elvis Grbac, 1994 Michigan Wolverines starting QB, thinks its a great idea...is it possible that maybe I’m the one missing the point?”*If you are an NFL athlete or know an NFL athlete, please explain to us why or how you think this will be successful and who to contact to make it work.*To date, Elvis Grbac is definitely unaware of this idea and may or may not think it’s a good idea. Please visit us at https://thetragedyacademy.com On social media, you can find us at @thetragedyacademypodcast on Instagram, The Tragedy Academy Podcast on Facebook, and @tragedy_academy on Twitter. “Brands often fall flat when trying to be an Onion or a Buzzfeed.” As these irreverent powerhouses have taught us, humor can significantly impact your online reach. A mistake many make is trying to execute this potent mixture on their own. What they should be doing is looking to experts like The Onion. As social media lead for Onion Labs, Eric Munn and his team help brands bring the funny while connecting and engaging with their audience. About Eric Munn Eric Munn is Social Media Lead for Onion, Inc.’s creative services division, Onion Labs. Munn began his career at TrainSignal, where he grew the company’s social following organically by over 12K in less than a year. Shortly thereafter, Munn was recruited by Social@Ogilvy to help run social strategy for brands like CDW, Jim Beam, Pinnacle Vodka, and Braintree. In what one can only assume was a clerical error, Munn was contact by The Onion in 2014 to lead social strategy for Onion Labs and spends most of his days explaining how jokes work to brand managers. Munn is a graduate of The University of Michigan and asks that all Ohio State alumni please vacate the premises.
