Intro: Host Michael Rand dissects the Wolves-related events Thursday -- namely the trade (again) of Ricky Rubio and the decision not to jump into an NBA Draft in which they held no picks at the start of the evening. While the Rubio deal for Taurean Prince, a second-round pick and some cap room is hardly a blockbuster, it has benefits for the Wolves. And let's face it: Rubio was a subpar player for a lot of last season and wasn't going to be here much longer regardless. 12:00: Alex Goligoski, the headliner among three defensemen already signed by the Wild in free agency, joins the show to talk about returning to Minnesota to play professionally and how excited he is about the Wild's prospects this season. And happy birthday to Goligoski, the former Gophers standout, who turned 36 on Friday. 25:00: Another look at the MLB trade deadline, which is fast-approaching at 3 p.m. Friday. The Twins have only made one deal so far. That figures to change as the day goes on.

Intro: The Twins lost 17-14 to Detroit, becoming the first team in MLB history to outhomer an opponent by a margin of seven (7-0 in this case) and lose. When you give up 17 runs, naturally host Michael Rand wants you to ... trade your best pitcher? Wait, what? Yep, now more than ever Rand is convinced that Jose Berrios -- with rumors heating up that teams are interested -- should be dealt before Friday's deadline. 5:00: Want some better news? Minnesota United came back for a dramatic draw against LAFC on Wednesday, pulling even late in stoppage time on Hassani Dotson's absolute rocket from 18 yards out. 7:00: The Wild was active early in free agency, signing three players on Wednesday -- highlighted by 36-year-old Minnesota native Alex Goligoski to anchor the defense. Rand has a question, though: Why spend $5 million on Goligoski even for one year after buying out another 36-year-old defenseman, Ryan Suter? 10:00: Star Tribune outdoors writer Bob Timmons joins the podcast to preview his special report on the Cuyuna State Recreation Area and all the good things happening there with mountain biking, other outdoor activities and -- perhaps most crucially -- economic development. 27:00: The NBA Draft is tonight, but the Wolves enter the evening without a first-round pick for the first time since 2012 and the second time since 2004. 29:00: Aaron Rodgers still sounds unhappy!

Locked On Wild - Daily Podcast On The Minnesota Wild

On today's episode of Locked on Wild we gear up for the start of NHL Free Agency. We begin by looking at the signings of Dakota Mermis, Kyle Rau and Andrew Hammond to return to the organization. Will any of those guys have a chance to make the Wild roster, or will they be more likely to play with Iowa especially with the Taxi Squad not being necessary this year. We move to whether or not the Wild should sign impending free agents Nick Bonino and Ian Cole to return next year. The reality is that both would be welcome additions to the 2021-22 roster but other moves need to be made first before they can be addressed so they will likely head elsewhere. We finish by looking at free agents who have been linked to the Wild, including Alex Goligoski, Nick Foligno, and a player they should absolutely target in Pius Suter. FREE AGENCY IS UPON US! Wait til you hear about our NFL ring ceremony concept...Jonah is back in from his Fresh year of college and contributes in a big way. Maria can best be described as mildly bemused and tolerant as the guys propose the following:1) What would you do if you had the Stanley Cup for a day?2) A total reimagining of the NFL Super Bowl ring ceremony. What if NFL Super Bowl rings were turned over every year like the Stanley Cup? 50 yard line, previous winners line up across from new winners and (Benny Hill theme starts playing) each player has to find another one to wear his ring.Would there be Red Carpet event fan overlap for the Super Bowl if there was a week long leadup with players discussing the rings, their potential outfits for the ceremony and who their potential targets might be?If this sounds to you like it might be a terrible idea, maybe you need to ask yourself this question: “If Elvis Grbac, 1994 Michigan Wolverines starting QB, thinks its a great idea...is it possible that maybe I’m the one missing the point?”*If you are an NFL athlete or know an NFL athlete, please explain to us why or how you think this will be successful and who to contact to make it work.*To date, Elvis Grbac is definitely unaware of this idea and may or may not think it’s a good idea. Please visit us at https://thetragedyacademy.com On social media, you can find us at @thetragedyacademypodcast on Instagram, The Tragedy Academy Podcast on Facebook, and @tragedy_academy on Twitter.  Don't forget to subscribe, download, rate, and review! (39:50) Superbowl ring exchange proposal.(38:05) Stanley Cup lightning rod hat viral video. #nfl #football #sports #nba #nfldraft #nflnews #superbowl #nflfootball #life #mlb #espn #nflmemes #americanfootball #madden #touchdown #afc #nfc #comedian #laugh #rogan #bertkreischer #pattonoswalt #offensive #chrisrock #chappelle #equality #collegefootball #fantasy #roto #fantasyfootball #redcarpet #fashion #comedy #funny #hilarious #ridiculous #timanderic #joke #standup #lol #nfl #football #sports #nhl #stanleycup

Elan is back and Brian never left, so that means we've once again got a full roster on this week's episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast. The last week has seen some significant line shuffling in Dallas and Pittsburgh, where a handful of depth guys are getting opportunities to step into scoring support roles. Elan also voices his concern about another elite goalie whose numbers have yet to fully recover at the 1/4 mark of the season, and wonders about whether a couple of low-scoring teams are finally turning the corner, and consequently, whether some players on these teams might be moving towards fantasy relevance.Brian brings attention to some high-frequency shooters, goalscorers, and a buy-low defenseman, and then presents twoplayers on opposite ends of their careers that have been questioned as snoozers in recent days and weeks. Players covered on this show include John Klingberg, Cody Eakin, Beau Bennett, Brandon Sutter, Patric Hornqvist, Tomas Tatar, Cam Atkinson, Gabriel Landeskog, Patrik Elias, Henrik Lundqvist, Mike Smith, Devan Dubnyk, Alex Killorn, Alex Pietrangelo, Alex Goligoski (lot of Alexes this week..), Pascal Dupuis, Nick Bjugstad, Jimmy Hayes, Vincent Trochek, Jussi Jokinen, Antoine Roussell, Jeff Carter, Matt Moulson, Boone Jenner, Brendan Gallagher, and more.If you enjoy the show, please check out our brand new Patreon group to learn how you can support Keeping Karlsson in a new way. You can also support us by telling a friend, subscribing to and reviewing Keeping Karlsson on iTunes, and following us on Twitter (@keepingkarlsson). Goalie confusion abounds on the newest episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast! Why are some of the best goalies actually awful so far? Why are some of the oldest 'tenders dodging regression for their 3rd year in a row? How badly should you want an awful goalie on one of the best teams in the league? What #2s are potentially morphing into #1b? We also flip through a bunch of recently outjured players to see if our projections have changed for them since their last NHL action-- including a PPQB and one-time starting goale in the Atlantic, an old soul in San Jose, and a finally returned Blue. Also, Brian mistakes Juuso Riikola's first name for Juusi. Please accept our sincerest apologies. Join our Fanduel Weekly Listener League! Registration opens Tuesday around 10am ET. Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast

Injuries may have decimated Ottawa, and the guys begin by seeing how it may impact the able bodied players who can still take the ice. They also tip their cap to a couple d-men who've swapped an IR spot in Pittsburgh, and consider whether Claude Julien can bring a staggering Habs roster back to life. Then, a hotly anticipated rookie who couldn't impress at this season's outset is back for another kick at the can in Columbus, while teammates around him alternately slump and awaken. Outjuries double as snoozers, as the merits of activating or jettisoning a returning centreman in Dallas and a blueliner in Anaheim are debated, with a healthy but quiet-til-now Panthers defenseman thrown in for good measure. Meanwhile, the debate over whether a certain Ducks forward can maintain a 55+ point pace appears all but settled, and new lines in Anaheim lead to a depth chart search for fantasy value outside of the usual suspects.  In hot streaks, Brian thinks Elan's feeling confident about one Canuck too many. The segment also features a couple Coyotes forwards and defensemen are helpful for as long as they remain in the desert, an entire line reigniting a pretty great even-strength run in Detroit, an assist-happy Blue who Brian prefers as a goal-scorer, a 60+ point scorer starting to maybe look like one again, a doghouse escapee in Boston, Brent freaking Burns, and Elan pining over vintage Zetterberg. Goalies get some time in the spotlight, including thoughts on why the Blues goalies are suddenly keeping the red lamp from being lit, a Philadelphia goalie whose only hot in the category of 'games started', an apparently reliable Western Conference goalie who could be spelling his starter more often, an emerging title change in Florida, and a struggling Isles tender with rough waters ahead. Also, what the heck should you do with a couple struggling Jets as they enter their bye weeks? And which Jet forward should you pick up when they hit the ice again? From there, they review where goalie loyalties might lie in Montreal, Nashville, Colorado and Washington, dig into some sad slumpers in Nashville and Winnipeg, herald some happy hotties in Calgary, Carolina, San Jose, Los Angeles and New York, discuss how Timo Meier can make history, and also share some names of players who were great not so long ago, but then blew it last year, but now are back to doing their thing in 2018-19.  Players discussed on this episode include Carey Price, Philip Danault, P.K. Afraid you've missed a single hockey news item or note from the past week? Or that you're misreading the numbers while trying to make sense of the outlandish player performances to date? Let this brand new episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast be your antidote! Pearson-mania all over again? Matthews a top ten scorer? Is there an impressive Canuck? Is Brouwer a more interesting human being than fantasy own? Do we have a Jack Campbell sighting on the horizon? Time to panic about Panik? Jimmy How-muchlongercanhepossiblykeepthisup? Boone no longer a boon for fantasy owners? Montoya earning greater share of the starts? Elan begins by going way off script to officially anoint the heir of his hashtag-team allegiance for this season, and then gets to a welcome group of outjuries that are shaking up depth charts, including a new opportunity for a returned St Louis Blue, and a way out of the doghouse for a Boston Bruin. Then it's over to injuries, where we draw particular attention to a new second-best power play option in Pittsburgh, weak goalie depth in Arizona and LA. Taking a tour of hot streaks around the league, Elan and Brian work to figure out when two overachieving Blackhawks may come down to earth, whether a Detroit blue-liner has hope of regaining his form of yesteryear, which ice time distribution quirks are favouring which Hurricanes, and whether Huberdeau's replacement in Florida is earning his keep on the top line. Elan also gets pretty sad about not having enough patience for a certain Leaf centreman to contribute to his roster, and gets very un-sad about a second line centre in Colorado. The guys also examine the meaning of roster moves made in Columbus and Anaheim, and line changing madness happening in Calgary, Nashville and New Jersey-- the last of which has Elan wondering whether there's more than one fantasy relevant Devil to be owned. The show wraps up with some early snoozer candidates, including this year's edition of a quality winger struggling in Vancouver, a non-Okposo in Brooklyn, a couple goalies struggling in Canadian creases, and an Atlantic PPQB with nothing to show for his efforts. This show also takes a look at developing goaltending situations in Calgary and Anaheim. And finally, we share some of our own strategic fantasy tips for getting the most out of your lineup. It's the 47th episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast, and what would be more fitting than to continue offering our insight into the latest fantasy news and cutting edge analysis that we've offered for the last 46 episodes? Nothing. Nothing would be more fitting. This episode is full of hot young guys-- though that doesn't sound right. Ok, this episode features a lot of coverage of prospects who are streaking. We cover newbies coming on strong in Boston, Dallas, Detroit, and San Jose.Amongst our players of note this week are a goal-scoring bottom-sixer in Washington, a credible even-strength producer on the blueline, a scorchingly efficient power-play QB, an emerging model of balanced production in Calgary, a perfect ten hitter, and a struggling is-he-or-isn't-he elite 'tender.Players mentioned on this episode include Jimmy Howard, Peter Mrazek, Jonas Gustavsson, Jason Spezza, Johan Franzen, Joe Thornton, Steve Mason, Justin Abdelkader, Teemu Pulkkinen, MELKER!!! It's the second annual Chanukwanzaasmas edition of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast, and you know what that means: zero holiday references and the same pure, mostly unadulterated fantasy hockey discussion and analysis that you've come to expect from two guys who own Erik Karlsson in their keeper pools. Our 44th episode kicks off with headlines upon headlines, where we discuss the untimely slump of a recently-annointed top-tier defenseman, the debatable suckiness of a pre-season goalie favourite, three injuries in the crease and the opportunities they might offer to some unheralded tenders, the decimated blue-lines in Pittsburgh and Winnipeg, the ups and downs of an early Calder favourite, a coaching change in Edmonton, line shuffling in Dallas, and the ungraceful falls of some over-achieving goalies. We then have a short discussion on the merits of owning players who only contribute to a single peripheral category, and also bring up a team full of buy-low opportunities that could bear fruit for years to come if you act right this minute. In players of note, Elan and Brian give credit to an understated superstar, warn of a top-100 player whose point pace is slipping, address the questions they constantly get about trading away a goal-scoring star, and shout out an always under-the-radar but still effective depth scorer. The show rounds off with a snoozer from Elan, and a couple of sub-categorized snoozers from Brian, including a tribute to a former fantasy stalwart riding off into the sunset.Players discussed on this episode include Andrei Vasilevskiy, Steve Mason, Victor Hedman, Cory Schneider, Christian Ehrhoff, Olli Maatta, Simon Despres, Brian Dumoulin, Scott Harrington, Derrick Pouliot, Jacob Trouba, Keith Kinkaid, Tobias Enstrom, Paul Postma, Grant Clitsome, Dustin Byfuglien, Jonathan Drouin, Taylor Hall, Vladimir Tarasenko, Brett Connolly, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Peter Mrazek, Rob Zepp, Ray Emery, Justin Schultz, Eddie Lack, Ryan Miller, Kari Ramo, Jonas Hiller, Jonas Enroth, Mathieu Perreault, Mark Scheifele, Alex Edler, Matt Martin, Josh Gorges, Darcy Kuemper, Cody Eakin, Jason Spezza, Erik Cole, Alex Goligoski, Trevor Daley, Nicklas Backstrom, Justin Williams, Brayden Schenn, Jason Pominville, Tyler Toffoli, Roman Josi, Shea Weber, and Tomas Vokoun. If you enjoy the show, please support us by becoming a patron of Keeping Karlsson. Keeping Karlsson patrons can join our patron-only Facebook group, take part in (and receive audio from) a monthly live Keeping Karlsson broadcast, and have their fantasy team personally audited by us every month-- learn more about supporting the show here. You can also support us by telling a friend, subscribing to and reviewing Keeping Karlsson on iTunes, and following us on Twitter (@keepingkarlsson). Elan and Brian have all the tips and analysis you'll need to recover on this week's episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast. This edition winds down with a list of players who are wound up! We cover a whole slate of lesser-owned players who are hot and ready to contribute to your fantasy team, including a Long Island blue-liner, a feisty Maple Leaf, an under-the-radar young Sabre, a rookie Blue, and an I-didn't-even-know-he-was-a Devil. The trade deadline has come and gone, and that means a bunch of new players in a bunch of new jerseys with a bunch of new linemates, all of which will be covered on this week's brand new edition of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast!Elan and Brian begin this week's show by cataloguing the myriad injuries plaguing (fantasy) teams, and which free agent acquisitions could help fill the void for both their real-life clubs and fantasy owners. Top line players hitting the shelf in Edmonton, Ottawa and Dallas highlight the segment, as well as goaltending boo-boos in New York, Ottawa, Dallas, Winnipeg, Columbus and New Jersey.Meanwhile, some healthy goalies have been knocked out of their crease for just plain ol' playing badly, and so we're also keeping tabs on evolving 'tender situations in Colorado, Detroit and Philadelphia. The show rolls on with an eye towards the most high profile players that were traded on deadline day, along with a couple under-the-radar choices whose value may have risen thanks to their new digs. We take a look at changes of scenery for a new Avalanche, Coyote, Ranger, Bruin and Duck. Finally, the show closes out with our notes on who's hot and cold over the last week or two. We tip our hat to a Penguin whose name Elan loves to say in a special way, a trio of Predators playing from the so-called second line, a pair of Lightning who need to shape up before they're shipped off, a sneaky depth blueline add making muffled noise in Vancouver, and a Detroit duo who have both gone MIA at the worst time.A reminder to our listeners that SeatGeek is offering you a $20 rebate off your first purchase! Last week's episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast was all about catching up on two weeks' worth of action, and this week we're all about getting you ahead of the curve with all of the latest fantasy hockey news, info and analysis. This 89th edition of the show kicks off with a deep dive into what the Johansen-Jones trade means for both the players who swapped teams, and the rest of the guys who will be shuffled and shifted around the Columbus and Nashville rosters as a result. In our Outjuries, we look at a 60 point-plus LA King not named Kopitar or Toffoli, a phenom-in-the-making re-entering the Bruins lineup, a recovered goalie who actually stayed that way long enough to make a start this time around, and a fiery Coyote who's getting more help than usual from his teammates. We also look at the impact of injuries to top line fixtures in New Jersey, Calgary and St Louis, and suggest you quickly grab a goalie who could get some games in on a very good team depending on the severity of his teammate's injury. Our Players of Note this week include a couple goalies about whom you can comfortably stop tweeting us questions, a great spot starter in an Eastern Conference crease, and a couple top line producers out West. Finally, the show closes out with a whack of Snoozers, including a couple perennial favourites who have failed to deliver by the midway point, and an apparent false start from a former 30 goal scorer.Players discussed on this episode include Ryan Johansen, Seth Jones, Alexander Wennberg, Mattias Ekholm, Connor Hellebuyck, Louis Domingue, David Pastrnak, Martin Hanzal, Shane Doan, James Reimer, Jonathan Bernier, Jiri Hudler, Joe Colborne, Mike Cammalleri, James Neal, Mike Ribeiro, Ryan Ellis, Adam Henrique, Brian Elliott, Colton Parayko, Lee Stempniak, Kyle Palmieri, Tobias Rieder, Sean Monahan, Johnny Gaudreau, Jeff Carter, Tanner Pearson, Robin Lehner, Nail Yakupov, Teddy Purcell, Jay Bouwmeester, Jake Allen, Paul Stastny, Linus Ullmark, Chad Johnson, Patrick Sharp, Alex Goligoski, Andrew Ladd, Jason Pominville, Jeff Skinner, Brandon Dubinsky, Tomas Hertl, Al Montoya, Chris Kunitz, Sidney Crosby, Patric Hornqvist, and more.* * *Download this episode, subscribe, and review us on iTunes! If you enjoy the show, please support future episodes by becoming a patron of Keeping Karlsson. Keeping Karlsson patrons can join our patron-only Facebook group and take part in (and receive audio from) a monthly live, face-to-face and interactive Keeping Karlsson recording! You can also support us by telling a friend, subscribing to and reviewing Keeping Karlsson on iTunes, and following us on Twitter (@keepingkarlsson).
