June 30, 2023 - Season 13, Episode 148 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Friday morning show, Alex Kozora and I start things off by talking about the history of Pittsburgh Steelers when it comes to the team signing players after their annual mandatory minicamp ends that wind up making the Week 1 53-man roster. We discuss how that history might play into 2023 and at which positions as well. The Steelers seem to have a big hole at the backup center position ahead of training camp, so Alex and I discuss that topic quite a bit during this show. We then move forward to discuss my ongoing 90-In-30 Training Camp series. We have several Steelers players to discuss in this show related to that series and they are Luq Barcoo, Keeanu Benton, Chris Boswell, Miles Boykin, Ja'Marcus Bradley, Hakeem Butler, Jordan Byrd, Dan Chisena, Le'Raven Clark, Mason Cole, Dylan Cook, and James Daniels. Former Steelers tackle Alejandro Villanueva is back in the news on this Friday, so we go over a few things he had to say during a recent podcast interview that he did. We hit a few listener emails late in this show as well. As usual, we mix in other Steelers talk throughout this episode that is not noted in this recap post. Learn more about your ad choices. May 17, 2023 - Season 13, Episode 131 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Wednesday morning show, Alex Kozora and I get right to talking about some recent transactions made by the Pittsburgh Steelers that have been made official by the team. Those include the claiming of defensive lineman Manny Jones off waivers and defensive lineman Renell Wren being placed on the Reserve/Injured list. The Steelers are reportedly expected to sign a few players to their offseason roster ahead of the team's first OTA practice next week and that list should include quarterback Mason Rudolph and wide receiver Hakeem Butler, just to name a few. We talk about the surprise potential return of Rudolph and what that might mean when it comes to the quarterback room. We also discuss if the return of Rudolph means anything when it comes to quarterback Mitch Trubisky. As for Butler's expected addition, we talk about his career to date and his roster chances. We also discuss the other XFL player, cornerback Luq Barcoo, the Steelers are expected to officially sign in the coming days.Free agent inside linebacker Kwon Alexander reportedly visited Pittsburgh this past week so Alex and I discuss his situation and the kind of player that he is at this point of his NFL career.Late in this show, the news breaks that the Steelers will be releasing veteran cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon, so we discuss that expected transaction fully.Later in the show, Alex and I answer a few questions we have received from listeners over the last several days. We mix in other Steelers talk throughout this episode that is not noted in this recap post.
The Steelers have released Ahkello Witherspoon, leaving them thin at an already thin position. What are the expectations for the defense this season? What are your questions/concerns? Pirates-Tigers live look-in. St. Louis Battlehawks OC and former NFL QB Bruce Gradkowski joined the show. The guys asked Bruce all about the newest Steelers WR, Hakeem Butler, who came from Bruce's XFL squad. He credits Butler for being prepared in multiple situations that build a lot of mismatches with XFL defenses. Bruce got into the size that Butler offers and how he's a good player to go up for contested catches. The guys then switched the conversation to Mason Rudolph with Bruce having insight on the life of a backup QB. Bruce thinks it's a good move for both parties and the Steelers were smart to not let emotions get the best of them. He thinks Rudolph will understand his role and can still bring something positive to the team. He said Rudolph did get a fair shake, but can still be a veteran presence in that QB room. The guys asked Bruce what Ben Roethlisberger was like as a starting QB. Bruce talked about the overall experience in the XFL this season and what is in his future.

The Steelers added an XFL target today in the form of Hakeem Butler. He's a big target, but will he turn into a useful piece in the offense and a great NFL story? Poni said the Steelers only have better weapons than the Ravens in the AFC North. Do the Steelers have any top tier targets or something with that potential? The guys want George Pickens to become a true WR1 this year with Pat Freiermuth emerging as a top tier tight end. Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo from the PG joined the show. Ray said Hakeem Butler was relatively highly thought of coming out of college, but didn't catch on in the pros. Ray went through the WRs that will make the team and if Butler will have a slot by the time it gets down to it. Ray think Gunner Olszewski could be the odd man out in that group. The guys asked Ray about Tanner Morgan and if he can be a real QB3 for the Steelers next year. What type of role will Connor Heyward play – Ray expects him to be an H-back type with a lot of fullback tendencies. Will Chandon Sullivan be the Steelers slot corner next season? Ray expects Nick Herbig to get a lot of opportunity to be the team's third edge rusher, but does see the versatility factor. Ray thinks DeMarvin Leal will see an increased role on the defensive front with the infiltration of Keeanu Benton, highlighting his run defense.
Steve Palazzolo from Pro Football Focus joined the show. Steve talked about the Steelers A+ draft grade and said, to put it simply, they did a great job. He raved about the small trade up for Broderick Jones and still getting Joey Porter Jr. at 32 and a player like Darnell Washington at pick 93. Steve thinks Nick Herbig has the makings of a pro edge rusher, but also has the versatility that could even play in the middle if he's one of the best 11 on the field. Steve broke down Washington and what kind of weapon he can be for the Steelers. Steve said it's always a good play to add more weapons and to add multiple corners this day in age. Steve loves the size of Porter and how he performs in press coverage. Steve said Tanner Morgan is one of the many QBs that were either picked late or not at all that are worth taking a flier on. The guys asked Steve how many rookies can make an impact for the Steelers next season and how they stack up now with the AFC. Steve likes the Steelers taking a shot on Hakeem Butler from the XFL.

It's a dynasty-heavy episode of Fitz on Fantasy this week, as host Pat Fitzmaurice (@Fitz_FF) is joined by Footballguys analyst Jordan McNamara (@McNamaraDynasty), author of “The Analytics of Dynasty” and “The Dynasty Teambuilding Guide.” Jordan and Pat discuss the San Francisco QB situation and whether it will be Brock Purdy or Trey Lance taking snaps for the 49ers in Week 1 of the 2023 season. They also assess the dynasty value of Isiah Pacheco and Kadarius Toney, and Jordan talks about whether he downgrades the dynasty value of WRs Tee Higgins and DeVonta Smith because of their superstar teammates. Jordan also talks about some of the most common mistakes than dynasty managers make and suggests a simple step that managers can make to improve their approach. Jordan explains how he first got into fantasy football and how he became dynasty-focused. He also touts a Blink-182 album as optimal background music for working and shares some of his other musical tastes. There's some discussion about George Pickens and the red flag that has Jordan skeptical about Pickens' long-term outlook. Jordan and Pat also talk about Gabriel Davis Amon-Ra St. Brown, and Jordan outlines his approach to the TE position in dynasty. The show concludes with some rookie talk, as Jordan discusses the importance of draft capital and Pat offers up the cautionary tale of Hakeem Butler.
