They also talked about the origins of the Real Life Podcast and how wild it is that this current crew has been together for almost six years! They then talked about the Brick tournament and that led them to a discussion about raising a prodigy athlete and which sports would be the easiest or most difficult to manage. They wrapped up with some talk about the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating contest, some big headlines in the sporting world, and the Edmonton Elks. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Los Angeles Kings Vice President and General Manager Ken Holland joined OverDrive to discuss the free agency additions of the Kings, the signings of Corey Perry, Joel Armia, Brian Dumoulin and Cody Ceci, the impact of the state tax, the Kings' overall roster and more.
Nick Kypreos and Justin Bourne are joined by Vancouver Canucks on Sportsnet host Dan Murphy (4:20) to chat about the magnitude of Brock Boeser unexpectedly re-signing with the organization, the state of their centremen depth, how comfortable and confident Canucks' front office are with Thatcher Demko after signing an extension, Adam Foote leading the charge as head coach, why their playoff hopes will depend on how Elias Pettersson performs, and whether general manager Patrik Allvin will continue to add to the roster. Then, Oilers analyst Jason Gregor (26:10) stops by to discuss the Edmonton Oilers' offseason building process, their plans in net, Evan Bouchard's extension, the impact of losing Corey Perry in the locker room, and Connor McDavid's next contract. The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliates.
Nick Kypreos, Justin Bourne and Sam McKee continue their coverage of the opening day of NHL free agency by reviewing the top names that have signed so far. They discuss Corey Perry's fit with the Kings, Brock Boeser sticking around in Vancouver, Evan Bouchard's mega-extension in Edmonton, how the Oilers can entice Connor McDavid to stay, Thatcher Demko's deal with the Canucks and the Panthers' UFA's paycuts. Later, Hockey Night in Canada's Elliotte Friedman (30:00) stops by the studio to review the day's action, the sense around the league on 'tampering,' Bowen Byram's market, the rumours around Sidney Crosby, Mitch Marner's fit in Vegas and where Nikolaj Ehlers might land. The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliates.
Free agency day means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio is ready to massage your earholes and bring you up to date on everything going on with the Edmonton Oilers. On today's podcast, the fellas discussed the Evan Bouchard extension, the NHL Draft, Kasperi Kapanen, and much more.We kicked off the Monday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about where everyone is at with Evan Bouchard's four-year, $10.5m AAV contract, and whether it's not more of a problem that Bowman wasn't able to lock in the max term. We also discussed the Oilers re-signing both Kasperi Kapanen and Noah Philp before they were able to reach free agency, likely with the plan of having both of these players start on the opening day roster. Chances are, the Oilers are going to be tight for cap space when October rolls around, and they'll need cheaper deals on the books to fill holes in the roster. With plenty of time left to go until the deals slow down, the boys walked through some of our former friends who signed elsewhere on Tuesday, including Corey Perry's new deal in Los Angeles and Connor Brown's contract in New Jersey. While we all expected a quieter day in Edmonton given the team's lack of cap space, that doesn't make it any easier to see contributing roster players sign for big smoke in other markets. Regardless, the deals signed in the early hours on July 1st don't mean the Oilers are anywhere close to done, but that didn't stop many Oilers fans from being disappointed anyway.Regardless of what the Oilers have done or haven't done yet, there's little doubt that teams are spending big money on free agents with the salary cap expected to fly up over the next handful of years. In fact, one could make the argument that the Oilers could be better off avoiding some of these overpriced free agents, especially with the dollars that some mid-tier UFAs are signing on extended deals. Is that coping? Potentially yes. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Darren Dreger got hour two started with his initial thoughts on this year's NHL draft and whether or not he thinks the league will go back to it's traditional ways. Dreger then gave his thoughts on John Gibson being traded to the Detroit Red Wings… What does this mean for the Oilers??? Dreger finished with his thoughts on Mitch Marner becoming a Vegas Golden Knight and will the Oilers be able to resign Corey Perry? It was then time for the Play Alberta Early Bird Bet of the day. In the middle of the second hour, it was time for MMMMMM That's Good presented by Italian Centre Shop. There was some Brock Boeser talk sprinkled in this segment… but the majority of this segment was spent on some CFL Fantasy discussion Dusty had with the new CFL commish.

Finishing up the interview we talk about the Flyers trading for Trevor Zegras, and the Rick Tocchet hire. The Oilers clawed back from a 3-0 first-period deficit to win Game 4 in overtime, marking the first comeback of its kind in Stanley Cup Final history. A strong pushback, a timely goalie switch to Calvin Pickard and a spark from veteran Corey Perry’s locker room speech helped shift momentum. Blue-liner Darnell Nurse bounced back with a standout performance, Leon Draisaitl’s greasy OT winner capped the effort and despite continued discipline issues from Evander Kane (and others), Edmonton may hold a slight edge in the now best-of-three series. Meanwhile, the Rangers shake up their core, trading Chris Kreider to Anaheim in a bid to retool.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The duo then analyzes the recent NHL awards, particularly the Vezina and Hart trophies received by Connor Hellebuyck, debating their legitimacy. They wrap up with a look at potential trade targets for the Blue Jays' starting rotation (29:55).The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliate.

Monday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded, edited, and is ready to help you kick off the rest of your workweek. On today's podcast, the guys discussed the Oilers' return to the Stanley Cup Final, Ryder's career in radio, their upcoming trip to Florida, and more. The guys kicked off the Monday episode of the Real Life podcast by welcoming Ryder from Play 107 to the show to help everyone get set for the Stanley Cup Final. Starting with a quick run through of Ryder's history in the city, and how it's been a remarkable journey for him to establish himself as a morning show host. Getting back to the Oilers, the guys started with a picture Wanye found of Tyler from Game 4 against the Stars, and how Yaremchuk lept skyward after Corey Perry scored to give the Oilers a 2-1 lead. They also touched on Liam's donair review after catching on Game 4, and how it was on one of the worst donairs he's ever had, but still ranks it as one of his favourites given the moment. Next up, we walked through what everyone is expecting from the Stanley Cup Final and how everyone is feeling bullish about the SCF rematch, despite the boys being up against a strong Florida Panthers opponent. That led Jay to recap his trip to London, where Oilers signs were everywhere, prompting him to bet on the Oilers' moneyline based on the signs the Universe was providing him. Finally, the guys wrapped up the Monday episode of Real Life with a conversation about everyone's game day routine. Much like you've heard from Chalmers over the years, Ryder confessed that coaching his daughter's softball team is really getting in the way of his love for Oilers playoff hockey. For those fans with children, it's a battle everyone knows well, but it's definitely a common issue during the playoffs. (Apologies for audio issues with Bagged Milk's microphone at certain parts of the episode!)

The Pitt TV show, Oilers finish off the Stars, Corey Perry back to another Final, big changes coming to Dallas, Knicks are going back to Indy and the Redblacks final tune-up tonight.
The Florida Panthers are headed to their third straight Stanley Cup Final after rallying past Carolina in Game 5, continuing the state of Florida's Eastern Conference dominance. Carter Verhaeghe scored the winner, showcasing the value of patience and great scouting. An awkward handshake moment between coaches Paul Maurice and Rod Brind’Amour sparked debate about who belongs in the post-series tradition. In the West, the Oilers prepare for Game 5 against Dallas with Mattias Ekholm expected to return from injury but Zach Hyman is likely out for the remainder of the playoffs. Evander Kane and Corey Perry could see increased icetime to try and offset the loss of Hyman as they have both impressed so far in these playoffs. 'Tis the season for Conn Smythe chatter, a year with no clear favourite emerging, but McDavid, Bouchard, Barkov, and Tkachuk are all in the mix. The Edmonton Oilers picked up a 4-1 win over the Dallas Stars in Game 4 to take full control of series as they're now up 3-1 heading back to Dallas. The Stars came out flying in the first period but could not find a goal, leading to Leon Draisaitl scoring on the power play for 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission. The teams would exchange goals in the seond and the Oil would shut it down in the third, while adding two empty netters. Postgame comments from Corey Perry and Stuart Skinner. The Edmonton Oilers are just one win away from punching their ticket to the Stanley Cup Final for the second straight season after a 4-1 win in Game 4 over the Dallas Stars. With the victory, the Oilers now hold a commanding 3-1 series lead, while the Stars find themselves facing elimination at the hands of the same team that ended their season last year.It was a fast-paced and physical start to the game, with both teams trading high-quality chances early. Stuart Skinner stood tall for Edmonton, making several critical saves to keep the game level before Leon Draisaitl opened the scoring on the power play. Dallas responded with a power play goal of their own from Jason Robertson, but the tie was short-lived. Corey Perry restored the lead with another power play marker for the Oilers, and from there, Edmonton shut the door, adding two empty netters to seal the win.On today's show, we'll break down everything that happened in Game 4, go through the full scoring summary, deliver our One Big Take, and ask the Giant Question as the Oilers inch closer to their ultimate goal.
