The Seahawks cut a number of recognizable names on Tuesday to get to their 'initial' 53-man roster. Marquise Blair, Justin Coleman and Freddie Swain made the list of the most notable names, but were they a surprise to anyone. There's one name of note that may have been a surprise to some that he made the team rather than being cut. 2022 Podcast Pick'em League Support the show Get in the Flock! There are some positive takeaways coming out of the second preseason game against the Chicago Bears - as long as you really stretch what you consider as positives. The Seahawks first round pick Charles Cross had a chance to match up with one of the top pass rushers in the NFL and showed out well despite not knowing who Robert Quinn is. Geno Smith, if he gets the start, will have to starting receivers to throw to rather than they guys who aren't standing out as a clear third or fourth option. Seahawks fans will get to see Drew Lock coming up in this week's game against the Dallas Cowboys. Will he be able to do enough to earn a start against the Broncos or has Pete Carroll already made that decision? Based on what we've seen (or haven't) from players like Marquise Blair, Dwayne Eskridge, Marquise Goodwin, L.J. Collier or Ryan Neal - we see some cuts of some high draft picks or free agent acquisitions. In the second half of the show, there's one quarterback the Seahawks could consider if he's cut by his current team. There's another guy who won the starting job that Seattle should have tried harder to get. Then there's another quarterback who can just decide when he wants to be at practice and when he doesn't. People who put they're Venmo name out in public for random celebrations and an event charging way too much for an essential item both need to do better. Better at life honors go out to firefighters again along with a pair of little league baseball players. 2022 Podcast Pick'em League Support the show Get in the Flock! Wait til you hear about our NFL ring ceremony concept...Jonah is back in from his Fresh year of college and contributes in a big way. Maria can best be described as mildly bemused and tolerant as the guys propose the following:1) What would you do if you had the Stanley Cup for a day?2) A total reimagining of the NFL Super Bowl ring ceremony. What if NFL Super Bowl rings were turned over every year like the Stanley Cup? 50 yard line, previous winners line up across from new winners and (Benny Hill theme starts playing) each player has to find another one to wear his ring.Would there be Red Carpet event fan overlap for the Super Bowl if there was a week long leadup with players discussing the rings, their potential outfits for the ceremony and who their potential targets might be?If this sounds to you like it might be a terrible idea, maybe you need to ask yourself this question: “If Elvis Grbac, 1994 Michigan Wolverines starting QB, thinks its a great idea...is it possible that maybe I’m the one missing the point?”*If you are an NFL athlete or know an NFL athlete, please explain to us why or how you think this will be successful and who to contact to make it work.*To date, Elvis Grbac is definitely unaware of this idea and may or may not think it’s a good idea. Please visit us at https://thetragedyacademy.com On social media, you can find us at @thetragedyacademypodcast on Instagram, The Tragedy Academy Podcast on Facebook, and @tragedy_academy on Twitter. The Seahawks didn't escape the injury bug that hit the league in Week 2. Bruce Irvin and Marquise Blair were sent to injured reserve, so you won't hear their names, but Duane Brown, Rasheem Green and Benson Mayowa sat out practice on both Wednesday and Thursday. There was a long list of players who had relatively minor injuries or were rested from practice this week as well. In my chat with Anthony Nachreiner of the Nach on Sports this week we talked about Russell Wilson's comments about wanting to win an MVP award and if there might be too much focus on that particular achievement. Despite two straight weeks of the Seahawks defense giving up big yardage, there's a bigger area of concern with the matchup against the Cowboys. Finally, we go through the Week 3 set of games and share our picks. The NFL and NFLPA agreed on daily COVID-19 testing yesterday as part of the health and safety protocols surrounding the 2020 season. The NFL has also reportedly offered to eliminate all preseason games in favor of a longer training camp acclimation period. Is this a huge step towards seeing NFL football this fall? Could financial sticking points still push back the start of the season? The lack of preseason games will weigh heavier on younger teams, but there's a chance it could benefit the Seahawks. Plus, former Hawk DE Michael Bennett announced his retirement this morning after 11 years in the league.
