We all loved the Legion of Boom. Those glory days where our secondary included Kam Chancellor, Earl Thomas, Richard Sherman, Byron Maxwell & Walter Thurmond. Mitch and Josh take to the Mock Draft Simulator to see if we can find the missing pieces on our defence to create the L.O.B. 2.0. Will we do it? Are the picks justified? Wait til you hear about our NFL ring ceremony concept...Jonah is back in from his Fresh year of college and contributes in a big way. Maria can best be described as mildly bemused and tolerant as the guys propose the following:1) What would you do if you had the Stanley Cup for a day?2) A total reimagining of the NFL Super Bowl ring ceremony. What if NFL Super Bowl rings were turned over every year like the Stanley Cup? 50 yard line, previous winners line up across from new winners and (Benny Hill theme starts playing) each player has to find another one to wear his ring.Would there be Red Carpet event fan overlap for the Super Bowl if there was a week long leadup with players discussing the rings, their potential outfits for the ceremony and who their potential targets might be?If this sounds to you like it might be a terrible idea, maybe you need to ask yourself this question: “If Elvis Grbac, 1994 Michigan Wolverines starting QB, thinks its a great idea...is it possible that maybe I’m the one missing the point?”*If you are an NFL athlete or know an NFL athlete, please explain to us why or how you think this will be successful and who to contact to make it work.*To date, Elvis Grbac is definitely unaware of this idea and may or may not think it’s a good idea. Please visit us at https://thetragedyacademy.com On social media, you can find us at @thetragedyacademypodcast on Instagram, The Tragedy Academy Podcast on Facebook, and @tragedy_academy on Twitter. Chris Hairston arrived at Clemson in 2006 in a class that included C.J. Spiller, Jacoby Ford, Ricky Sapp and Byron Maxwell. He left Clemson in December of 2010 after an awful loss to South Florida cemented a disappointing 6-7 season. Hairston joins The Dubcast to talk Dabo Swinney, playing in the NFL, life after the NFL, and a bunch of other stuff.
The Seahawks have gone 0-4 in the preseason for the first time in the history of the organization and while it's not the kind of milestone fans want to see, we offer some perspective by talking about some other teams that have gone winless in the preseason. Shaquem Griffin jumped off the screen in preseason and now he may start the first week of the season with K.J. Wright battling a knee injury. Now that the preseason is over, it's time to take a look at the players remaining on the team after coaches cut the roster from 90 down to 53 players. And it shouldn't be a shock to anyone that the roster is now slightly different when it was announced, because it will continue to shuffle as other teams add and cut players to their squads. One of the biggest surprises was seeing Byron Maxwell sent to injured reserve which may effectively end any chance we will see him lining up across from Shaquill Griffin. Will Johnson be the week 1 starter or will the team choose to have Justin Coleman on the field for all the snaps even though he has shown to be most effective covering the slot? What about Earl Thomas who receives a special designation on the roster going into the season? The special teams decisions were made after the Chargers game, but are there other options available now that Seabass missed a couple kicks in the final game of the preseason. Coach Carroll says he "over tried" against his former team, so maybe there's nothing to be concerned about. Offensively, it looks like an exciting group of receivers and a group of running backs that should be able to improve over what the team showed last year. Coach Carroll was asked about George Fant at right tackle, and judging by his response, it seems safe to expect that Fant will be backing up both tackle spots for now. The backup quarterback was a bit of a surprise as the Seahawks made a trade prior to the game against the Raiders for former Packers quarterback Brett Hundley and Adam is not pleased by the move. In the final portion of the show, Brandan calls out the clickbait article writers for missing a piece of information that flew under the radar from the NFL's flagship podcast and Adam gets after a former Raiders receiver who was expected to be a part of their offense coming into 2018 and was cut from the team. Better at life honors go to ESPN's Mina Kimes who is conducting the hype train for Michael Dickson as Rookie of the Year and Adam honors a political leader who called for unity in his final moments. This week on Phinsider Radio, MC$ and Houtz are flying solo as Surton the Creepy Soccer Dad takes a vacation day. We break down all the latest news from the Miami Dolphins OTAs, including the signing of four rookie draft picks. We also dive into the mega contract extension for cornerback Bobby McCain, which now makes him the highest paid slot corner in the NFL. Was it a good move for Miami to lock him up now to this rich of a contract? We touch on Albert Wilson and his challenge to every other player on the Dolphins. He says he can beat all of them in a foot race. Will we ever see that happen? We also touch on burner accounts, including the one MC$ found that appears to be Byron Maxwell posing as just a regular guy. The Seahawks have signed what many hope to be their most impactful free agent signing yet by bringing in D.J. Fluker. Fluker is another top draft pick from the 2013 season, and Kenneth Arthur, managing editor of Field Gulls, joins us to talk about the move along with some of his observations from the offseason to this point. One of the things Kenneth likes best about the Fluker signing - it's better than paying top dollar for the other guards who hit the market. But the best possible outcome might be finding a guard via the draft who can ultimately take over at that position. Despite all of the change this offseason, Kenneth says the direction of the team seems to be an approach toward sticking to the philosophy that got the team to a Super Bowl. Cutting Richard Sherman even allows them to keep last year's roster together as much as possible by allowing them to keep Dion Jordan, Justin Coleman, Bradley McDougald and potentially Byron Maxwell. The Seahawks were at their best when they had rookies playing at a high level with contracts that were far below the value they offered. They were able to find players in that "middle class" who were able to compete and produce in ways that led them to extensions with the team. In hindsight, perhaps it would have been better to move on from those players. We discuss the projections of the Seahawks possibly only winning six games, and Kenneth points out how a top quarterback like Phillip Rivers has been able to produce winning seasons without a lot of help around him. Even if a couple big names leave, Russell Wilson should be able to lead the Seahawks to a winning record. Clinton Bonner joins the show to talk about some of the moves from the offseason including Luke Willson's departure. He talks about what he's going to miss most from the Wilson to Willson connection. He also has a new public access show he's starting called TNT Dynamite Thursdays that launches on Thursday. The show closes with calls to do better for Cowboys fans who feel entitled to Earl Thomas and to Mike Freeman for a nonsensical take on how things will go for Russell Wilson this coming year. Better at life honors go to UMBC and their Twitter account manager and to a caretaker of an island off the coast of Italy. Listen to Seaside Chats with Kenneth Arthur/3000 NFL Mock Draft on Soundcloud and on Apple Podcasts Support Field Gulls on Patreon A special thanks to associate producer Dustin Mock.

On this week’s episode of the Better Rivals podcast, we kick off our free-agent positional previews by focusing on one of football’s most important positions: cornerback. If the 49ers opt to spend big, is Malcolm Butler or Trumaine Johnson the better option? (16:03) If they aren’t in love with the big-name options, are there any good transitional options? (40:10) And is it worth dipping into the bargain bin for someone like Byron Maxwell? (53:03) All that, plus rapid-fire Super Bowl talk (0:47), 49ers Hall-of-Famers (5:26), and what’s on deck for the rest of the offseason. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

K.J. Wright, Justin Britt and Byron Maxwell join 'The Players Lounge' to talk about the college football landscape, things they miss from their childhood and things they want to accomplish.
Now that it's been a full week since last Thursday's game, Brandan and Adam discuss the Seahawks win over the Arizona Cardinals. The primetime game gave Russell Wilson a chance to shine in the national spotlight and he took advantage by breaking out a double-pirouette move on a throw to Doug Baldwin that ultimately resulted in a touchdown to Wilson's new favorite end zone target. The play also caught the attention of Pete Prisco, a CBS analyst who has always said Russell Wilson is "good not great," so we take a trip to Prisco's World to see what Pete thought about Wilson latest magic show. Turns out Prisco likes a metric that should have him reconsidering how he categorizes the Seahawks quarterback. Richard Sherman is out for the season and there's a big question about how the team's secondary will look without their elite cornerback. The guys discuss how the injury shouldn't have the same impact that Earl Thomas' injury did last year, but it's still no guarantee that it doesn't have an impact on where we'd like to see the Seahawks go this season. The Atlanta Falcons come to town riding high on their victory over the Dallas Cowboys. The Falcons pass rush really got after Dak Prescott, including a six-sack performance by Adrian Clayborn. What does that mean for Wilson, the Seahawks offensive line and what can the team do to slow them down? In the second half of the show, the guys continue the discussion about Byron Maxwell's return to Seattle and a listener emails in a quote from Doug Baldwin and his thoughts on Thursday Night Football. Do better shots go to the Vikings GM this week and to a fan of another team that Adam accuses of caring way too much. Better at life picks this week go to a former NFL player who has a goal to help players manage pain in a more natural way and to Teddy Bridgewater for his return to the NFL sidelines. A.J. Green was uncoverable against the Miami Dolphins on Thursday night, hauling in 10 passes for 173 yards and a touchdown as the Cincinnati Bengals cruised to a 22-7 victory in Week 4. Here's what we learned: 1. With veteran cornerback Byron Maxwell summarily benched, Green took turns beating Dolphins cornerbacks Tony Lippett and Xavien Howard to the tune of 123 first-half yards -- the most by any receiver this season. By the end of the third quarter, Green had more yards (166) than the entire Miami offense (152). The league's most prodigious deep threat tracked down passes of 51 and 43 yards, setting up 10 of Cincinnati's 22 points. With the ground attack stalled, Marvin Jones and Mohamed Sanu no longer in stripes and Pro Bowl tight end Tyler Eifert sidelined, Green has carried the Bengals' offense through the first quarter of the season. Although he has been to the Pro Bowl in each of his first five NFL seasons, Green is finally poised to make a serious run at first-team All-Pro -- an honor he has yet to collect. 2. Speaking of Eifert's absence, the Bengals desperately need him to return as an end-zone savior. To this point in the season, they have converted just four of 14 red-zone appearances into touchdowns. "Offensively, we move the football," coach Marvin Lewis said after the game, "but we've got to finish more of these drives with touchdowns." Hump Day is here but so is the ITP Mock War Room Draft to get you through it. We are now on to the thirteenth pick in the draft, with the Miami Dolphins on the clock. After a pre-draft trade with the Philadelphia Eagles netted them cornerback Byron Maxwell and dropped them five spots in the first round, the Dolphins still find themselves needing a cornerback opposite Maxwell. There are also needs in the front seven of the defense, as well as at running back, as Mark Schofield of Inside the Pylon heads up the war room in this episode as the Dolphins make pick thirteen. Listen in to find out what direction they go.
