Hejduk didn't just "play" - he was an essential part of the 2001 Stanley Cup season, won the 2003 Rocket Richard Trophy for scoring the most goals in the NHL that season, and is one of only 3 players to wear the "C" for the Avalanche. He played with some dynamic talent over the years and has great stories about Joe Sakic, Peter Forsberg, Ray Bourque, Teemu Selanne and Paul Kariya... Milan Hejduk is a Colorado Avalanche legend! The Sports Experience Podcast with Chris Quinn and Dominic DiTolla
Episode 279 of “The Sports Experience Podcast” is here & we're back on the ice discussing Teemu Selänne. “The Finnish Flash” was a star in his native Finland before he joined the NHL in 1992-1993. Though selected 10th overall in the 1988 NHL Entry Draft, the Right Winger's skill, speed and grace were worth the wait for the Winnipeg Jets. Teemu set all-time records for goals and points in a season as a rookie and helped the Jets to the postseason. Though he remained a star in Winnipeg, a trade to Anaheim paired him with fellow star Paul Kariya helped Selänne reach new heights. Though injuries and stints in San Jose & Colorado almost derailed the prime of his career, “The Finnish Flash” enjoyed a second act in Anaheim which proved to be quite fruitful. In addition to being named one of the NHL's “100 Greatest Players,” Teemu helped the Ducks capture the franchise's first Stanley Cup title after the 2006-2007 season, and he remained a scoring threat until his retirement after the 2013-2014 campaign. In addition to his NHL success, Selänne shined on the international stage for his native Finland. He helped his country win a silver medal at the 2006 Winter Olympics and bronze in 1998, 2010 and 2014. Teemu played in 10 NHL All-Star Games, won the 1992-1993 Calder Memorial Trophy (ROY), won the Masterson Trophy 2005-2006 (Dedication & Perseverance), won a Stanley Cup in 2006-2007 and still holds the record for most points recorded in Olympic competition. Overall, the 2017 Hockey Hall of Famer recorded 684 goals, 773 assists and 1,457 points. All of which are records for Finnish-born players. Connect with us on Instagram! Locked On Predators - Daily Podcast On The Nashville Predators
The Nashville Predators defeated the Ottawa Senators last night in a 3-2 victory, and Nick and Ann have the game recap and breakdown. It was a record setting night for Roman Josi who broke Paul Kariya's single season points record. We debate whether Josi's season makes him a viable contender for the Hart Trophy. The game was a mixed bag for the Preds, and we take a look at the areas of execution Nashville needs to clean up going forward. Did Juuse Saros "steal" this game for the Predators? Blues assistant coach Jim Montgomery on his history with Paul Kariya, being named assistant coach of the Blues, very excited to start the next chapter of his career and the Stanley Cup Final.
Keep your head up and your stick on the ice. Good advice for any hockey player, especially when the most dangerous, devastating hitter in the history of the NHL is on the ice. Scott Stevens wouldn't just bump you off the puck, he'd absolutely destroy you, as in leave you lying motionless on the ice. If you don't believe us, google his name. Stevens is known for his hits on Eric Lindross and Paul Kariya among others, but he could flat out play and was among the best Captains the game has ever seen. Plus he's a winner winning three Stanley Cups, a Memorial Cup, a Canada Cup among many of his honors. The only thing missing is a Norris Trophy, don't worry we ask him about it. We also ask him about his contract situation with St. Louis. Was he happy an arbitrator sent him packing to New Jersey? Just a hint, he wasn't happy. He also played over 600 games with the Washington Capitals which most people probably forgot. What was his workout routine? Did he ever think he killed someone on the ice? And what is his response to Tie Domi's comments he made about Stevens on this very podcast? Check this out, the highly anticipated interview with Hall of Famer Scott Stevens on this edition of the Cam and Strick Podcast.
We figured since it's our 50th episode we'd bring something special to the table. Lou Lamoriello, the Hall of Fame Hockey Executive and architect of the three time Stanley Cup champion New Jersey Devils, gave a very rare, long-form interview. Lamoriello won't give you much, but still when he speaks people listen. He's the Godfather of hockey and does things only one way, Lou's way. While his player's may slightly fear him while under his umbrella, there's no denying the respect he commands and the family-like environment he's created with every organization he's run. At 78 years old, Lamiorello remains on top of his game, what a career he's had. From being a baseball coach, a math teacher, to being an athletic director, this guy was enjoying a successful life before anyone truly knew much about Lou Lamiorello. That was before 1987 when the New Jersey Devils came calling....the rest is history. Like some serious history, this guy could go down as the greatest hockey executive of all time. This interview dives into everything and then some. As for Cam Janssen, a former Devils player, to say he was rattled or scared to death before, during, and after this interview wouldn't give it justice. The interview starts off calm before Andy asks some pressing questions that people want answers to. Like how do you fire your Head Coach with only a handful of games remaining when you have the 2nd best record in the conference? Or how did the Scott Stevens arbitration case with the St. Louis Blues really go down? Did he like working in a hockey crazed market like Toronto under Brendan Shanahan? Could Stevens play in today's game, was he a dirty player? What about working with George Steinbrenner? Check this out...Lou Lamiorello, exclusively on the Cam and Strick Podcast.
Happy two year cup anniversary boys and girls and babes! The boys re-live the cup win, where they were that night, and how special of a moment it was to see Ovi lift Lord Stanley. We break down the new playoff seedings, Reid Cashman is gone, and of course a weekend recap. We're joined by Caps tendy Pheonix Copley for an awesome interview on playing goalie, his goal to get the Caps backup spot next season, Conor McGregor and the North Pole. Lastly, we're joined by DC chef and Paul Kariya super fan Chef JoJo.

This week in anguish: - The ostrich effect is in full force as the Canucks' fortunes decline on all fronts - The name "Mark Messier" is uttered on this program for hopefully the last time as we chew over and spit out his weird napkin-scrawled contract - Yulin' with the Page gets a spot in the BC Sports Hall of Fame, so we celebrate by mewling at the de-localization of sports media - We can't decide if he's the honey badger or our poor little black sheep, but either way we want Jannik Hansen back - Paul Kariya sets us off on a discussion of the Canucks' penchant for signing the lesser brothers of identical mothers Thanks for listening! There are also reports that Nate Thompson, Jonathan Bernier, and Jhonas Enroth could test the free agent market and may not return to Anaheim. Emerson Etem and Ryan Faragher are also set to become unrestricted free agents on July 1st as they both weren't given a qualifying offer. The Ducks are going to look to add some pieces to make another great run in the 2017-18 season. On this show, we talk about what other players the Ducks could add to their roster. Anaheim did re-sign Patrick Eaves for three more years and also Korbinian Holzer for two more years, but they still need to add more. Buffalo broadcaster Tom Martin stops by and talks with Mike, Tommy, and Kevin about which Mighty Duck could be the best broadcaster, whether Dwayne is the worst player in Mighty Ducks history and whether Averman deserves a spot on the team. Show Notes Thanks to Tom from coming on. Follow him on Twitter: @4TomMartin. Listen to his podcast: @AudcastPodcast. We talked about Banks' broadcasting career in Episode 120. For reference, Banks' hair: Barstool Sports, for those who somehow aren't aware. Newsies has a very split score on Rotten Tomatoes: 39 percent from the critics, 88 percent from the audience. We talked about Don Tibbles playing Wolf and Gordon against each other in Ep. 117. Paul Kariya's cameo. Shoutout to Josh the announcer: We talked about the women in Bombay's life in Episode 9. The Leonardo DiCaprio movie was indeed called Romeo + Juliet. It's at 72 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Maria's eyes right before Bombay and Stansson face off in three bar: Dwayne Robertson = the only Ducks player to miss during the shootout. We discussed the Mighty Ducks' worst player in Episode 6. So apparently Teemu Selanne said he felt Paul Kariya was bitter about the way his career ended (essentially because he had too many concussions playing hockey). Kariya, for his part said he just liked playing and didn't want to be involved with anything else. Thanks to @leia_nog for the #QuackQuestion. @QuackAttackPod #quackquestion All the ducks are like family, but do you think there were a couple that may have disliked each other? — Leia Burns (@leia_nog) April 5, 2017 The source of Russ Tyler and Jesse Hall's friction: Matt Doherty came on in Episode 54. Joey and Penn discuss free agency, mindboggling blockbuster trades, introduce you to a Shark, a Duck, and two prospects, then make baseless predictions that will probably look ridiculous by the end of next season. For the first time since the 2006-07 post season the Anaheim Ducks are going to the Western Conference Final! The Ducks defeated the Flames in the 5th game of the series in dramatic fashion. Entering the third period behind by one goal, Matt Beleskey scored to tie the game. Beleskey scored his fifth goal in five games against the Flames. He broke Teemu Selanne's record of scoring at least one goal in four consecutive games in a playoff series. Then the faithful at Honda Center had a big scare as Corey Perry would go down after a hard check. He would have to crawl on the ice to get back to the bench. Moments later he appeared on the ice and eventually scored the game winner to eliminate the Flames. The moment was compared to by many as the Paul Kariya moment when he was knocked out by Scott Stevens in the 2002-03 Stanley Cup Final. Kariya came back and scored a goal in Game 6. Eddy and I look at the Ducks current playoff run and discuss why the Ducks have had success against the Winnipeg Jets and Calgary Flames. We also look forward to the series against the Chicago Blackhawks. We break down both teams and give you our analysis on how this series will go.
It's a special grab bag episode! Instead of one topic Mike, Tommy and Kevin did three quick hitters. First they discussed what the order should've been for the Ducks in the D2 shootout. Second was whether Don Tibbles made the right choices in constructing Team USA. Third was a debate about announcer Josh in D3 and his aptitude. Show Notes: Here's the Mighty Ducks 2 shootout (kind of): Don Tibbles' assembly of newbies that was more for the marketing than for the winning the Junior Goodwill games: Josh and Paul Kariya in D3: Josh actually mentions that Kariya is visiting friends in the Twin Cities area, so that's why he's in town. Contrary to what Mike thought, there is no mention that Kariya is an alumnus of Eden Hall. Mike was also saying this was '94. D3 was actually 96. He knows this, he was just thinking about Don Tibbles' roster construction.
Forty shows down, one to go before we close the book on Season Six of AFITC. Ahead on this week's program, the Leafs retooled adding one player through free agency and two through a trade while resigning two of their own restricted free agents. We'll discuss those moves and how they'll affect the Leafs next season in Leaf Notes. Kicking off the Redline Report, we feature another Defining Moment In Leaf history, ironically about finding a number one centre. Paul Kariya had some strong words about how the NHL is dealing with concussions when he retired this past week. Will the NHL listen? We'll give our thoughts on that as well as this year's Hockey Hall of Fame inductees to wrap the Redline Report. Back Checking looks at some bizarre contracts that were recently signed and gets some Listener Contributions onto the program. Later we turn to our closer, the Host of Off The Record on TSN, Michael Landsberg as he shares his thoughts on the Leafs, the Shark' overhaul, the future of NHL discipline and much more. Rigamarole will conclude the show, this week answering the biggest question on the minds have all Leaf fans: have they improved enough to snap their six year playoff drought. With Season Six in the books, a number of thank yous are in order to the numerous people who have been so generous with their time in helping to make our show better. First off, to our outstanding guests. To Will Gunton, Alan Bass, Cassidy Preston, Jeff Brown, Paul Hendrick, Alex Guptill, Brendan Smith, James Duthie, Joe Bowen, John Ondrasik, Lucas Lessio, Matt Cauz, Matt Lashoff, Nick D'Agostino and Michael Landsberg who all appeared this season on the show, thank you all so much! Getting different perspectives on topics and stories is what we love; we consider ourselves lucky to have been presented with so many outstanding contributions again this year! Finally, most of all, thanks to our many loyal listeners. Without you, we're just talking to ourselves. Thanks so much for all the outstanding support! We sincerely hope you enjoyed us entertaining and informing you as much as we did putting show together.
