BIO Former record-setting University of Colorado quarterback Joel Klatt is FOX Sports' lead college football game analyst, sitting alongside play-by-play announcer Gus Johnson and reporter Jenny Taft. In 2020, he served as the network's lead XFL analyst, working with play-by-play announcer Curt Menefee. Klatt also provides analysis leading up to and during the NFL Draft. Considered one of the most productive players to have ever played the quarterback position at Colorado, Klatt joined the program as a preferred walk-on in 2002 and set 44 school records as the Buffaloes' starter from 2003-05. He became only the third player in school history to throw for more than 2,500 yards in his first season as a starter at Colorado, racking up 2,614 yards and 21 touchdowns. Klatt finished his Colorado career as the school's all-time leader in passing yards (7,375), touchdowns (44), competition percentage (60.8) and completions (666). His 44 school records were the second-most by a Colorado student-athlete in any sport behind Byron “Whizzer” White, who set 51 as a halfback from 1934-37. Klatt is the rare analyst who can lay claim to having been a professional in two major sports. His college football career was initially delayed after he made a post-high school journey into professional baseball. Selected by the San Diego Padres in the 11th round of the 2000 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft, Klatt played two seasons in the club's minor league system before retiring from the sport to pursue a career on the gridiron at CU. Following his graduation from Colorado, he was invited to the Detroit Lions and New Orleans Saints rookie mini-camps in 2006, and was signed as a free agent by the Saints. Klatt's first opportunity in broadcasting came when he filled in as an analyst on Friday night high school football games in the Denver area in the fall of 2006 for FOX Sports Rocky Mountain. Shortly thereafter, he became a studio host for FOX Sports Southwest's Saturday college football coverage from 2007-08 and parlayed his aptitude in that setting into a package of college games as a color analyst for FOX Sports Net in 2009. Back in Denver, Klatt called upon his baseball experience to serve as host for Colorado Rockies pre- and postgame shows on Root Sports Rocky Mountain. He also hosted a series of sports radio shows in the Denver area from 2007-12, including a popular program on the FM station 104.3 The Fan from 2011-12. He left the Denver area in 2013 when he joined FS1 for its August launch. Klatt spent his first two seasons with FS1 and the FOX broadcast network as a full-time studio analyst for the network's college football coverage, host of FOX NFL KICKOFF, and part-time game analyst, primarily working Thursday night contests on FS1 as well as the 2014 Pac-12 Championship Game on FOX. Prior to the 2015 season, Klatt was elevated to FOX Sports' lead college football game analyst, teaming with play-by-play announcer Gus Johnson. Showing impressive versatility, he also contributed to FOX Sports' coverage of the U.S. Open Championship from 2015-19. Born in Denver, Klatt is married to Sara, and they have three sons. Klatt attended Pomona High School in Arvada, Colo., lettering all four years in baseball, basketball and football. He earned a B.A. in economics from Colorado and later served as the president of “Buffs For Life,” a non-associated alumni association that raised money for former CU athletes with a financial need. Residing in Newport Beach, Calif., Klatt enjoys playing golf and spending time with his family.

Has Pete Carroll completely changed his "always compete" philosophy, and if so, are the Hawks better off for it? Brock & Salk are joined by FOX NFL anchor and Seahawks preseason play-by-play announcer Curt Menefee as they get to the bottom of why the Hawks have looked so uncompetitive in the preseason...and why, for the first time under Pete Carroll, that won't mean anything about whether this team is good in the regular season. The Mariners are in the midst of the most surprisingly competitive Mariners team in Scott Servais and Jerry Dipoto's tenure with Seattle. Salk explains why he believes Servais deserves to win "Manager of the Year" for his team's performance, and why the Mariners had better lock him up to a contract extension before other teams pry him away this offseason. Brock breaks down the new college football alliance that's brewing between the PAC 12, ACC and BIG10, and a 4 letter word that sums up why this move is being made in Blue 88. Wait til you hear about our NFL ring ceremony concept...Jonah is back in from his Fresh year of college and contributes in a big way. Maria can best be described as mildly bemused and tolerant as the guys propose the following:1) What would you do if you had the Stanley Cup for a day?2) A total reimagining of the NFL Super Bowl ring ceremony. What if NFL Super Bowl rings were turned over every year like the Stanley Cup? 50 yard line, previous winners line up across from new winners and (Benny Hill theme starts playing) each player has to find another one to wear his ring.Would there be Red Carpet event fan overlap for the Super Bowl if there was a week long leadup with players discussing the rings, their potential outfits for the ceremony and who their potential targets might be?If this sounds to you like it might be a terrible idea, maybe you need to ask yourself this question: “If Elvis Grbac, 1994 Michigan Wolverines starting QB, thinks its a great idea...is it possible that maybe I’m the one missing the point?”*If you are an NFL athlete or know an NFL athlete, please explain to us why or how you think this will be successful and who to contact to make it work.*To date, Elvis Grbac is definitely unaware of this idea and may or may not think it’s a good idea. Please visit us at https://thetragedyacademy.com On social media, you can find us at @thetragedyacademypodcast on Instagram, The Tragedy Academy Podcast on Facebook, and @tragedy_academy on Twitter. The veteran sports anchor discusses his chummy relationship - both onscreen and off - with the rest of the "Fox NFL Sunday" studio crew, plus his book "Losing Isn't Everything: The Untold Stories and Hidden Lessons Behind the Toughest Losses in Sports History."
The Total Tutor Neil Haley will interview Fox NFL Sunday Host Curt Menefee, Author of LOSING ISN'T EVERYTHING. Every sports fan recalls with amazing accuracy a pivotal winning moment involving a favorite team or player—Henry Aaron hitting his 715th home run to pass Babe Ruth; Christian Laettner's famous buzzer beating shot in the NCAA tournament for Duke. Yet lost are the stories on the other side of these history-making moments, the athletes who experienced not transcendent glory but crushing disappointment: the cornerback who missed the tackle on the big touchdown; the relief pitcher who lost the series; the world-record holding Olympian who fell on the ice. In Losing Isn't Everything, famed sportscaster Curt Menefee, joined by bestselling writer Michael Arkush, examines a range of signature "disappointments" from the wide world of sports, interviewing the subject at the heart of each loss and uncovering what it means—months, years, or decades later—to be associated with failure. While history is written by the victorious, Menefee argues that these moments when an athlete has fallen short are equally valuable to sports history, offering deep insights into the individuals who suffered them and about humanity itself. Telling the losing stories behind such famous moments as the Patriots' Rodney Harrison guarding the Giants' David Tyree during the "Helmet Catch" in Super Bowl XLII, Mary Decker's fall in the 1984 Olympic 1500m, and Craig Ehlo who gave up "The Shot" to Michael Jordan in the 1989 NBA playoffs, Menefee examines the legacy of the hardest loses, revealing the unique path that athletes have to walk after they lose on their sport's biggest stage.
