On his news Saturday podcast, Post-Gazette sports columnist Jason Mackey welcomes long-time PG scribe Bob Smizik to tackle and array of Pittsburgh sports topics, starting with his favorite memories of covering Super Bowls past. What was it like covering those games as a reporter and columnist? What moments stuck out? And what are Bob's thoughts on this year's game between the Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs and Saquon Barkley and the Eagles? Our duo tackles those questions, then transitions to some current Steelers topics. Did the Steelers do anything wrong in their handling of Kenny Pickett, who's now in the Big Game with Philadelphia? What should we make of the reported friction between OC Arthur Smith and QB Russell Wilson? And what should it mean for Justin Fields? And should the team bring back Najee Harris amid new reporting of the team's interest in doing so from the PG's Gerry Dulac? Later, Jason gets Bob's reflections on his long career in media and some of the other teams around town. Will Tommy Pham help the Pirates? What will have to happen for the team to be any good? And will Bob be watching Penguins including Sidney Crosby and Rickard Rakell in the 4 Nations Faceoff?

The best Steelers Super Bowl play after the James Harrison pick and Santonio's catch?

Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's the Steelers pursuit of Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams. The Steelers are one of a number of teams that is involved in trade talks for Adams, a six-time Pro Bowler who seems to be at the end of his road with the Raiders and vice versa. The asking price has been revealed to be a second-round pick plus, though it seems unlike the Raiders will get it. With his current contract situation, Adams would be considered a rental by most acquiring teams, unless they're able to work out a new deal with him beforehand. Would getting a rental Adams get the Steelers over the top and make them Super Bowl contenders? No. But they should do it anyway. Alan explains why. Learn more about your ad choices. July 7, 2023 - Season 13, Episode 150 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Friday morning show, Alex Kozora and I start things off by talking about the recent Instagram post made by Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle Cameron Heyward. From there, we discuss what Heyward's future looks like past the 2023 season. We move forward to discuss Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin and his chances of getting into the Pro Football Hall of Fame if he were to retire right now. We also discuss what Tomlin needs to do moving forward to make himself an unquestioned lock for a gold jacket and bust in Canton, OH. Updated passing stat odds are out for Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett so Alex and I discuss his over/under lines for both touchdown passes thrown in 2023 and passing yards. We also discuss the play of Pickett in 2024 as potentially being the key element of the Steelers Super Bowl window opening back up for the next several years after he hopefully makes another jump in 2023. Alex and I then move on to discuss the way-too-early outlook for the Steelers own unrestricted free agents in 2024 and how many of those players might ultimately be must-have re-signings. We then move forward to discuss more posts in my ongoing 90-In-30 Training Camp series. We have several Steelers players to discuss in this show related to that series, and they are Madre Harper, Najee Harris, Pressley Harvin III, Nate Herbig, Nick Herbig, Cameron Heyward, Connor Heyward, Alex Highsmith, and Cole Holcomb. We hit a few listener emails late in this show as well. As usual, we mix in other Steelers talk throughout this episode that is not noted in this recap post. Learn more about your ad choices. It's been 11 years since the the Steelers were in a Super Bowl and 13 since the black and gold last hoisted the Lombardi Trophy. There have been longer droughts in the NFL, but for those in Steeler Nation...but the drought has gone on way too long. John joins us to talk about Donnie Shell getting into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. John tells us you knew Donnie Shell was nearby on the field just by the sound it made when he hit someone. Asked if there's a player from the last few years who would remind him of Shell, John says it's hard to compare someone to him because he's one of the hardest hitting safeties of all-time. John tells us the story about the time Donnie broke one of Earl Campbell's ribs. He did see some similarities between Shell and Polamalu. We ask John about the current Steelers and if he thinks their offensive line will be able to gel during the preseason. Not only does John think the offensive line needs to play together in the preseason, he also thinks Ben should play into the second half of one of the games to get in work with them. We wrap up with John asking him what he makes of the Name, Image and Likeness changes coming to college football. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Ryan Clark came a long way from undrafted free agent to Super Bowl Champ to ESPN analyst. After LSU, he went to the Giants, then Washington, where Ryan played alongside the legendary Sean Taylor. He talks about Taylor's fearlessness at training camp and his incredible trash-talk, plus his private persona and the unwarranted media storm that came after his death. Then, Ryan talks about overcoming sickle cell, and shares an absolutely terrifying story about a spleen injury in Denver. (It gets a bit intense around the 15:00 mark.) Next, Trey and Ryan reminisce about the start of Ryan's media career, which all started with a tweet. As if playing with Sean Taylor weren't enough, Ryan left Washington to play with Troy Polamalu in Pittsburgh, where he got to see #43's uncanny anticipation up close. Plus, he got to add his stamp to the greatest rivalry in the NFL this century: Ravens-Steelers, including what he describes as the biggest play of his career.

Wait til you hear about our NFL ring ceremony concept...Jonah is back in from his Fresh year of college and contributes in a big way. Maria can best be described as mildly bemused and tolerant as the guys propose the following:1) What would you do if you had the Stanley Cup for a day?2) A total reimagining of the NFL Super Bowl ring ceremony. What if NFL Super Bowl rings were turned over every year like the Stanley Cup? 50 yard line, previous winners line up across from new winners and (Benny Hill theme starts playing) each player has to find another one to wear his ring.Would there be Red Carpet event fan overlap for the Super Bowl if there was a week long leadup with players discussing the rings, their potential outfits for the ceremony and who their potential targets might be?If this sounds to you like it might be a terrible idea, maybe you need to ask yourself this question: “If Elvis Grbac, 1994 Michigan Wolverines starting QB, thinks its a great idea...is it possible that maybe I’m the one missing the point?”*If you are an NFL athlete or know an NFL athlete, please explain to us why or how you think this will be successful and who to contact to make it work.*To date, Elvis Grbac is definitely unaware of this idea and may or may not think it’s a good idea. Please visit us at https://thetragedyacademy.com On social media, you can find us at @thetragedyacademypodcast on Instagram, The Tragedy Academy Podcast on Facebook, and @tragedy_academy on Twitter. December 19, 2016 "The Howitzer and Buzz-saw Show" on Pittsburgh Podcast Network | Episode #011 Embracing hate is often important to success. Few have done this as well as Pittsburgh media extraordinaire Rob Rossi. George "the Howitzer" Gerbo and Mike "the Buzz-saw" Asti welcome Rossi to the first Howitzer and Buzz-saw Show recorded at the Point Park University Center for Media Innovation. Produced by Talent Network, inc. and Pittsburgh Podcast Network. This episode was recorded at Point Park University's Center for Media Innovation. Special Thanks to Chelsea Pompeani and Andrew Conte for coordinating the studio time and the partnership between Pittsburgh Podcast Network and the Center for Media Innovation. Episode Show Notes: While staying true to his heel persona, Rossi talks the drama with Andrew McCutchen, if the Pirates should trade the former National League MVP, and how a potential McCutchen trade can be compared to other trades of Pittsburgh star athletes over the years. Mike attempts to explain his hatred for the often mediocre and recently fired Jeff Fisher. Are the Steelers Super Bowl favorites? Has Le'Veon Bell emerged as an MVP candidate? Rossi even tries to give Mike some advice on how to elevate his own stature as a heel. George then dreams of a possibility to heel turn himself, only to be ruined by realizing it's unlikely Mike will ever not garner hate.
