Two-time Stanley Cup champion Daniel Carcillo doesn't want someone else to be in the same position he was which is contemplating suicide. Fueled by a Traumatic Brain Injury after years of playing professional hockey and with a nickname like Car Bomb, Daniel was known as an enforcer. He was a very popular player with the Philadelphia Flyers, Chicago Blackhawks, and everywhere else he played. You have a lot more years to live after professional sports. After the loss of his friend who was also a former NHL player suffering from concussion syndrome, Daniel spiraled. His mission in life included taking on the NHL. He wanted to answer why NHL players struggle so much with moving on from the game. Why are so many former players I know battling depression? Why does the hockey community ignore them when they're gone? And why can't we create a more concrete program to help them transition into real life? After his own experience with psychedelic mushroom therapy and the associated re-integration, Daniel decided to make this his mission; to help former athletes and other people suffering from depression, post-concussion syndrome and other mental health challenges through natural medicines including psilocybin and plant medicine. Daniel Carcillo was a pro hockey veteran and 2-time Stanley Cup winner. But his life changed when he was diagnosed with post-concussion syndrome and traumatic brain injury (TBI) following his 10-year career as an “enforcer” in the NHL. After years of suffering from neurological issues, he found solace in psychedelic medicine – something that traditional pharmaceuticals could not provide. Today, Daniel is an advocate on behalf of TBI survivors and those dealing with mental health challenges, vocal about the inadequacies of America's healthcare system, which is driving patients to explore novel treatments such as Ketamine, MDMA, & Psilocybin. This is why he co-founded Healing Realty Trust (HRT), a real estate investment trust investing in the clinical infrastructure required to support tomorrow's medicine. As COO, he hopes to help unlock the industry's growth and help millions of people access these therapies by providing a real estate network that supports innovative medicine. ➡️ My digital marketing agency, Aloa. ➡️ Watch this Episode on YouTube: @therosspalmer DISCLAIMER: THIS PODCAST DOES NOT PROVIDE MEDICAL ADVICE The content of this podcast is for entertainment/informational purposes only. When Daniel Carcillo played in the NHL, he was known as an enforcer so tough and volatile, that he earned the nickname “Car Bomb.” In his 12 seasons in the NHL, Daniel was member of two Stanley Cup-winning teams (2013 and 2015 Chicago Blackhawks), lead the league in penalty minutes, and was fined or suspended by the NHL twelve times. He also suffered about a dozen concussions and was diagnosed with early-onset dementia at 30 years old. As he told me, “I know I have CTE,” a progressive and fatal brain disease that he believes drove him to the brink of suicide until—as he describes it—mushroom therapy saved his life. Today, Daniel is a brain health advocate and the Founder/ CEO of Wesana Health, a life sciences company that leverages psilocybin-based medicine to treat traumatic brain injuries. In this episode, Daniel and I discuss: Canada's hockey culture Whether winning the Stanley Cup made him happy The culture of violence in the NHL. The epidemic of brain injury among athletes. How psilocybin, mushrooms, MDMA, Ketamine and other non-traditional medicines are being used treat depression, PTSD, and brain disease Please note I neither endorse nor disapprove of Daniel's POV here. I think there's a lot to learn in this space that could potentially benefit a lot of people who are suffering. Thank you to my friend Peter Fish for connecting me with Daniel.

Daniel Carcillo earned the nickname “car bomb” during his 10-year NHL career for his explosive playing on the ice. Known for protecting his teammates, Carcillo helped Chicago win two Stanley Cup championships with the Blackhawks—but at great personal cost. He suffered seven concussions and was eventually diagnosed with post-concussion syndrome and traumatic brain injury (TBI). At his lowest point, Carcillo couldn't even look at his phone due to light sensitivity and wanted nothing to do with his infant son.A hockey champion in grave need of off-ice help, he found it in a remarkable place: psychedelic medicine. Reflecting on the impact this emerging medicine had on his life, he saw a chance to help others realize the same benefits. He built a team of medical experts to provide world-class treatments and perform trailblazing research in psychedelic medicine. As Carcillo says: “A lot of TBI patients want to become the person that we were before the injury, but I'm trying to show people that you can actually get better.”The Wesana team is committed to achieving this goal by improving mental health outcomes—one person at a time.Learn More: https://wesanahealth.com/ | https://wesanaclinics.com/Influential Influencers with Mike Saundershttps://businessinnovatorsradio.com/influential-entrepreneurs-with-mike-saunders/Source: https://businessinnovatorsradio.com/interview-with-daniel-carcillo-founder-and-ceo-of-wesana-health
