It's this game.Played on a cold day at Yankee Stadium, the Baltimore Colts took on the New York Giants for the NFL title for the 1958 season.Though it was marred by turnovers and mistakes, this tight game featured so much excitement and was littered with Hall of Fame coaches and players.The Colts raced to a 14-3 lead at halftime thanks to quarterback Johnny Unitas, running back/flanker Lenny Moore and wide receiver Raymond Berry.New York stopped the bleeding in the second half with a goal line stand, and ended up taking a 17-14 lead after a Frank Gifford touchdown reception from Charlie Conerly.Unitas then took over with a Two Minute Drill and led to Colts into New York territory before time expired in the fourth quarter. A Steve Myrah field goal tied the game at 17 apiece which set up the first sudden death overtime scenario in an NFL Championship Game.After stopping the Giants on their first overtime possession, Unitas and Berry went to work and Baltimore ended the game with a one yard touchdown run from Alan Ameche to win 23-17.Due to the game being so exciting and being broadcast to the country on NBC, the American public was enthralled by professional football. The NFL Season is moving along and so are we. In this episode of the NFL Historical Matchups for Week 11, we have four games that we are highlighting. The first one may be one of the most famous and the most important games in NFL History. It may not have been a classic as for as a close game or having a fantastic finish, but Super Bowl III between the Baltimore Colts and the New York Jets helped create the current NFL.It was more than the biggest upset in Super Bowl history, it added legitimacy to the upstart American Football League as the merger between the AFL and NFL was on the horizon. The second game was the 1981 AFC Championship game between the San Diego Chargers and the Cincinnati Bengals. The game played in conditions that were better suited for the Iditarod Sled dog race in Alaska, saw the Bengals advance to their first Super Bowl by winning the game known as the "Freezer Bowl".The third game we are remembering was referenced in a Sports Illustrated article that previewed the game at the time as Super Bowl 8 1/2 .But after it was over, the game had earned another name that has lived on to this day. The 1974 AFC Divisional playoff game between the Miami Dolphins and the Oakland Raiders is remembered as the "Sea of Hands Game". Rounding out our games that we are looking back on is the 1966 AFL Championship game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills. The Bills were looking to win their third consecutive AFL Championship game but more importantly play in the inaugural Super Bowl. But it would be the Chiefs that would advance to the first Super Bowl in a muddy, cold day at the stadium known as the Rockpile. I wonder why that is. —A few weeks back, the Secret Service was raked over the coals by, well, everyone, because they allowed a shooter to get too close to former president and loser of the 2020 election, Donald Trump.  “How could this happen?!” people cried. Well, as a report discovered, it's shocking it didn't happen sooner.  The Secret Service has been understaffed and under-funded for years. That catches up with ya, and that's what happened here. —Hey, remember in October of 2020, the Trump campaign left supporters stranded in the cold Nebraska autumn?  Well, the dummies who decided to go see him rant in California didn't. That's why they were surprised when the shuttle busses shut down, and they were stuck for hours and hours trying to find a way to their cars. Yet, even though he ran the country into the ground the same way he campaigned—hey, remember when he dismantled the pandemic response team early on, and then we had an actual pandemic? Ah, good times—these morons will still vote for him, because his own actions are never his fault. —TONY ROMO IS A MONSTER! At least, that's the take of one reporter, the exceptionally intelligent Robert Zeglinski, who has probably never watched football in his life. From 1937 to 2020, the team in Washington D.C. was called the Redskins. They changed their name to Commanders in 2022. You know what that means? It means that much like people who might slip up and occasionally say, “Houston Oilers,” “Baltimore Colts,” or “St. Louis Cardinals” (or even “St. Louis Rams!”) someone might say, “Washington Redskins.” Just like Tony Romo accidentally did the other week. Was it a big deal? Nope. Is it worth wasting time crying about? Nope. But that didn't stop super non-fan Robert Zeglinski from throwing a Karen-style fit in a column for an obscure website. Was it for the sake of virtue signaling?  Probably. Losers do everything for the sake of virtue signaling.  —Speaking of football, Jay Cutler's ex, Kristin Cavallari, is a well-known nutcase. But man, her latest idiocy is barely believable. She insists that both Kanye, and Britney, have been cloned.  Wasn't this the premise of “Us,” the horror movie that came out a couple years ago? Either way, her proof? Pictures. See, both Kanye and Britney look different in pictures today, than they did just a few years ago. Well, THAT'S ALL THE EVIDENCE I NEED. —If you aren't aware of the most shocking hateful, hurtful piece of fan art this year (decade? Century?), you should be. A movie version of the musical Wicked is coming out soon, but Hollywood, as they tend to do, changed the poster.  In the original, Broadway promo, the poster showed a witch with her eyes covered.  In the Hollywood update, the witch is shown looking at the camera. So, a fan of the musical did a little photoshop magic, and covered the eyes of the actress on the Hollywood poster.  WHICH IS OUTRAGEOUS.  HOW DARE A FAN TRY AND RECREATE AN ORIGINAL WORK OF ART?! Is there nothing people won't overreact to? As the son of a Naval pilot, Bucky Dilts moved around a lot growing. At one point his family was based in Hawaii where he learned to surf and play football, specifically punting. He'd kick a football (with his left foot) over anything high that he could find.   Next came a move to Atlanta. Surfing wasn't an option, so Bucky went 100% into football during high school. He went on to punt for the University of Georgia as a walk-on. His reverse spin, directional punting and hang time became a problem for opponents.   Despite his collegiate success, Bucky went undrafted in 1977 and while a number of teams offered him a spot in training camp, he went with the Broncos who had a lot of competition at the punting position. Fully confident, Bucky came to camp and won the position.   His rookie season included a trip to the Super Bowl and a spot on the All-Rookie Team. He'd stay with Denver for another year before being traded to the then-Baltimore Colts. After a rough year with the Colts and pricing himself out of the market contract wise, Bucky was done with the NFL.   After retirement, Bucky hit the business world and endured some personal setbacks and challenges with his family. Today he's helping people (and himself) become healthier versions of themselves.

In Round 1 (19th overall), the Giants selected Justin Pugh, a tackle from Syracuse. Pugh spent his first five seasons with the Giants before signing a five-year, $44.8 million contract with the Cardinals. He returned to the Giants midseason last year. Over his six years with the Giants, Pugh played in 75 games, all as a starter. His career spans 11 seasons with 132 games and 131 starts. Pugh got married in April 2022 and has been active on YouTube, hinting at plans for life after football. Some Giants fans hope the team re-signs him for the 2024 season, although he is currently a free agent.In Round 2 (49th overall), the Giants picked Jonathan Hankins, a defensive tackle from Ohio State. Hankins became a starter in his second year and developed into an above-average player. He played all four years of his rookie contract with the Giants, appearing in 52 games with 41 starts, recording 140 tackles, 10 sacks, 19 tackles for loss, and 26 quarterback hits. After leaving the Giants, Hankins played for the Colts, Raiders, and Cowboys. He recently signed with the Seahawks for his 13th NFL season. His career totals include 152 games, 134 starts, 403 tackles, 17.5 sacks, and 50 quarterback hits. He got married in 2023 to a luxury realtor.In Round 3 (81st overall), the Giants selected Damontre Moore, a defensive end from Texas A&M. Initially expected to be a top-10 pick, Moore's draft stock fell after a poor combine performance. He played nearly three seasons with the Giants, recording 43 tackles and 8.5 sacks in 42 games. His tenure with the Giants ended due to multiple issues, including fights with teammates and immature behavior. Moore became a journeyman, playing for eight NFL teams, one AAF team, and three CFL teams. His NFL career includes 66 games with 11 sacks. Moore is married with two children.In Round 4 (110th overall), the Giants drafted Ryan Nassib, a quarterback from Syracuse. Nassib was considered a potential successor to Eli Manning but failed to impress. He played five games for the Giants, completing 9 of 10 passes for 128 yards and one touchdown. After leaving the Giants, Nassib spent time with the Saints and Jaguars but never saw the field again. He got married in 2016.In Round 5 (152nd overall), the Giants chose Cooper Taylor, a defensive back from Richmond. Taylor, the son of former Georgia Tech and Baltimore Colts quarterback Jim Bob Taylor, had his college career disrupted by Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome. He played in 16 games for the Giants, recording 15 tackles. Taylor is now an investor at Salem Investment Council.In Round 7 (225th overall), the Giants picked Eric Herman, an offensive lineman from Ohio. Herman never played in an NFL regular-season game but spent time on several practice squads. He was suspended for four games in 2014 for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing drug policy. He last played for the Colts' practice squad in 2016.In Round 7 (253rd overall), the Giants selected Michael Cox, a running back from Massachusetts. Cox played two seasons with the Giants, rushing 26 times for 76 yards and catching five passes for 21 yards. Bubba Smith was a defensive end in college and pro football. He was a star player for the Michigan State Spartans, one of six players to have his jersey retired by the university. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988. Bubba was the number one pick in the NFL/AFL draft. He was the Baltimore Colts starting left defensive end for five seasons, playing in Super Bowl III and V. It was in the 5th Super Bowl that he won his only bowl ring. His outstanding playing ability earned him a double-team. You might remember him from the TV commercials for Miller Lite with Pro Football Hall of Fame defensive star Dick Butkus. Bubba was best known for his role as Moses Hightower in the “Police Academy” movies. He published his autobiography, “Kill, Bubba, Kill” in 1983.

He is the only quarterback - ever - to only play for 10 seasons and lead his team into the championship game every year of his career. He won the championship seven (7) times. And, yet, when the discussion about who is the greatest QB of all-time comes up, very few football fans mention the name Otto Graham. He played for the Cleveland Browns when they were "born" as an AAFC (All America Football Conference) team. The Browns, simply stated, were the best team in the league. In fact, Graham led the Browns to the AAFC title every year of the league's existence: 1946, 47, 48, 49. When the Browns (along with the San Francisco 49'ers and Baltimore Colts) moved into the NFL, most thought they had no chance to compete. Well, not only did the Browns compete, Graham led them to the NFL Championship in 1950. Graham played with the Browns, NFL-style, in 1950, 51, 52, 53, 54 and 55. He won the Championship withe Bowns three times. The four years he didn't win the Championship, the Browns made the title game, but lost. Graham won the NFL MVP in 1951, 1953 and 1955. In his six years in the NFL, he led the league in passing yards twice, QBR twice and completion percentage three times. Yet, Graham is one of the most overlooked superstars in the history of the game. Gregory Russell Pryor (born October 2, 1949), is an American former Major League Baseball infielder. He played all or part of ten seasons in the majors, in 1976 and 1978–1986. He was 6'0 feet tall and weighed 185 pounds. He batted right and threw right-handed. Originally drafted by the Washington Senators, Pryor was picked in the 6th round of the 1971 amateur draft (130th overall) and was the last position player draft pick of the Senators to play in the major leagues. He debuted in the majors with the Senators' later incarnation, the Texas Rangers, in 1976. Pryor was a member of the World Series-winning Kansas City Royals in 1985. Greg's father, George, was a fullback at Wake Forest University and played for the Baltimore Colts of the NFL.  

Steve Wright played 12 years in the NFL as an offensive lineman with the Dallas Cowboys, Baltimore/Indianapolis Colts, Los Angeles Raiders and a two detour into the USFL with Oakland Invaders. His story is quire remarkable considering how he wound up a starter despite being undrafted out of the University of Northern Iowa. But his determination and persistence not only helped him make the Cowboys in 1981, but become a fixture on the O-Line. He played with and against some of the game's greatest and played under three unique coaches: Tom Landry, Frank Kush and Art Shell. His story is filled with the highs and lows you would expect. But it's also filled with magnificent stories as well, three of which are among the most historic in history. In his rookie year, he thought he was on his way to the Super Bowl until Dwight Clark caught a pass from Joe Montana to vault the 49'ers and end the dreams of Cowboy fans everywhere. He was on the field for the longest TD run in NFL history, 99 1/2 yards by Tony Dorsett and he was on the Baltimore Colts when they packed up and left overnight for Indianapolis. But Steve's exploits on the field are only a part of his story. What he did off the field while playing and after his playing days are a huge part of who Steve Wright is. Jim DeCarlo has had a very full life. He is the proud son of Art DeCarlo, a champion Baltimore Colts defensive back and end. He lived in Australia for 24 years, lured by the offer to play indoor lacrosse professionally. After 22 years of success in the financial services industry down under, a $19 billion buyout of the firm where he worked as a senior executive proved to be a transformative opportunity. He decided to quit the firm and move his family of six back to Baltimore."I told my kids and my wife, we have two choices, we either sell the house and move to Sydney or we sell the house and move to Baltimore and everyone voted feet and hands, Baltimore," he said.Upon his return, Jim discovered that transitions in the financial services industry in the United States were taking root more slowly than in Australia. It was another opportunity for transformation."It was a gift to see around the corner a little bit," he said.Jim started working with large financial services firms, but decided his mission in the U.S. would be more than technological transformation.
