It's 2002 and there's a thick layer of hope wafting in the air around the Air Canada Centre. The Leafs have finished 2nd in the East, only one point back of the Bruins. The supporting cast is stronger than ever with Darcy Tucker, Gary Roberts and Alexander Mogilny upfront, Tomas Kaberle & Bryan McCabe on the blue line, and Curtis Joseph manning the net. After a hard fought 7-game series win against the New York Islanders in the first round, the Leafs are bruised, but ready to battle against the upstart Ottawa Senators, who feature young talent like Daniel Alfredsson, Marian Hossa and an oversized defensemen named Zdeno Chara.Sick of hearing all the ads? Locked On Penguins - Daily Podcast On The Pittsburgh Penguins
It's the first day of Summer and yes, things will REALLY start heating up soon. Hunter starts the show off by discussing Ryan Graves and how he could be a fit with the Penguins in free agency. Hunter dives into his numbers from this past season and how they would've stacked up against other Penguins defensemen outside of Kris Letang. he also analyzes what he saw from Graves in the film room, whether it was being patient at the blue line, being a bit more physical in the defensive zone, or burying chances when he gets time and space to line up a shot. Hunter also looks at what type of contract he would be asking for since Vladislav Gavrikov just got paid in a big way by the Los Angeles Kings. Would Kyle Dubas want to spend that money? After that, Hunter looks at who his dream selection would be at No. 14 overall. He analyzes his play and how he'd be the best Penguins prospect since they drafted Derrick Pouliot (yes, he knows how that panned out). Finally, Hunter ends the show by congratulating Tom Barrasso on finally getting into the Hockey Hall of Fame while also slamming the HOF for not inducting Alexander Mogilny.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!BirddogsGo to birddogs.com/lockedonnhl and they'll throw in a free custom birddogs Yeti-style tumbler with every order.GametimeDownload the Gametime app, create an account, and use code LOCKEDONNHL for $20 off your first purchase.eBay MotorsFor parts that fit, head to eBay Motors and look for the green check. It is time to see which former players will get their call to the Hockey Hall of Fame as part of the 2023 class. Mike DiStefano and David Morassutti look at the players eligible to go in this year and if any are worth being first-ballot Hall of Famers. They also give their own criteria for what makes a player or person worthy of being in the Hockey Hall of Fame. With that being said, Mike and Dave make the case as to why former Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Curtis Joseph has a legitimate case to be in the Hockey Hall of Fame. To end the show, Mike and Dave look at other players worthy of the honour including Alexander Mogilny who has been snubbed for too long. Hour 2: Voice of the Sabres joins the show as the Hockey Hall of Fame will be making their vote for the Class of 2023. Will former Sabre Alexander Mogilny finally make it?
The Hockey Hall of Fame will announce its 2023 class on Wednesday with many people thinking this will finally be the year that Alexander Mogilny gets the call to the hall. JPat explains why he thinks Canucks assistant coach, and long-time NHL defenceman, Sergei Gonchar should get in alongside his countryman Mogilny. The boys go over Sean Monahan re-signing with the Montreal Canadiens, who inked a very team friendly one-year contract to remain with the Habs. Plus they rank the Canucks options on the left-side of the blueline. The show wraps with some betting lines on game 7 of the Calder Cup Final. The Toronto Maple Leafs are back in the playoffs again, looking for their first series win since 2004 again, and probably will find a way to lose again, because the playoffs always brings a bigger emphasis on goaltending and Toronto's first-round challenge is taking on Andrei Vasilevskiy after a season in which the Leafs have used Ilya Samsonov, Matt Murray, Joseph Woll, Erik Kallgren, and even for a hot minute, Jett Alexander. The 2003-04 Maple Leafs come up a lot because they were a good enough team to actually win one (1) playoff series. They were also, at the time, record setters with the highest regular-season points total in Leafs history at 103. They've surpassed that figure three times since, including this year, but not yet appeared in a conference semifinal, or division final, or whatever they want to call the second round nowadays.Pretty good team, won a playoff round… doesn't really capture it. Who was on the 2003-04 Maple Leafs?Five Hall of Famers, for one thing. Largely winding down their careers, but still five Hall of Famers: Ed Belfour, Ron Francis, Brian Leetch, Joe Nieuwendyk, and captain Mats Sundin. Really, it should be six Hall of Famers, because Alexander Mogilny was there, too, plus a Masterton Trophy winner in Gary Roberts. And that's just the guys on the ice because the coach was also a Hall of Famer, Pat Quinn. Then there were five guys who aren't Hall of Famers, but were solid NHLers, dudes who played 1,000 or more games in the league, the kind of fellas you're going to want on your side in the playoffs: Tie Domi, Tom Fitzgerald, Calle Johansson, Bryan McCabe, and Matt Stajan. It should've been more than five guys with 1,000 games, but remember that the NHL, reacting to the Maple Leafs winning a playoff series (not really, it wasn't that rare at the time), canceled the entire 2004-05 season. Four more 2003-04 Leafs played at least 900 NHL games, but not 1,000: Tomáš Kaberle, Ken Klee, Bryan Marchment, and Darcy Tucker.Even the list of players from this team who were just dudes… is pretty solid. This team had Nik Antropov, Wade Belak, Alexei Ponikarovsky, Robert Reichel, and The Other Guy From The Legion Of Doom Mikael Renberg. The 2003-04 Leafs were a flawed team with most of its biggest names not in their prime, but what a collection of hockey talent in one place at one time. If they ever win another playoff series, will it be as much fun to look at that roster two decades later? We'll see. Maybe. This is a public episode. The Bobcats seek their first title after losing in 2013 and '16. Both of Quillan's goals came in the first period. He opened the scoring with 14:41 left on a bank shot from behind the net that went off goaltender Erik Portillo. Quillan added another on a breakaway at 8:39 for his 18th goal of the season. Michigan was seeking its 10th NCAA championship. Golf – The Masters – Koepka living large at Masters, leads with Rahm and Hovland Brooks Koepka is in a three-way share of the lead at the Masters with Jon Rahm and Viktor Hovland. Koepka is trying to regain his reputation as a major player. Right now he gets attention as a surprise defector to Saudi-based LIV Golf. All he cares about his having healthy legs. He opened with a 65. Rahm was even more spectacular in his round of 65. That’s because he four-putted for double bogey on the first hole. He followed with seven birdies and an eagle. Hovland played bogey-free. Tiger Woods limped his way to a 74 and was nine back. Golf – The Masters – Tiger Woods’ painful Masters walk results in opening 74 Tiger Woods had three birdies and five bogeys during an opening round of 74 at the Masters on Thursday, leaving him in contention to play the weekend but hardly to win the tournament. He had two tough lip-outs on the front nine, a couple of poor pitch shots that led to bogeys, and some bad luck at the 18th led to his final bogey. It was the worst opening round for Woods at the Masters since 2005, when he followed another 74 with 65-66-71 to capture the fourth of his five green jackets. But he’s hardly the same player these days. He is now a combined 16 over for his last four rounds at Augusta National. NCAAWBKB – Champion LSU women accepting Biden invitation to White House LSU's national champion women's basketball team will accept an invitation from President Joe Biden to visit the White House. University spokesman Michael Bonnette confirmed LSU's intentions on the matter on Thursday, a day after Tigers star forward Angel Reese suggested during a podcast interview that her team should celebrate their title with former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama rather than President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden. Reese made the suggestion after saying she was not inclined to accept an apology from Jill Biden for suggesting that both LSU and runner-up Iowa be invited to the White House. President Biden did not follow through on that idea, inviting only LSU and men's national champion Connecticut. US would bar full ban on trans athletes but allow exceptions A new rule proposed by the Biden administration would prevent schools and colleges from enacting outright bans on transgender athletes, but it would allow certain exceptions to promote fairness or reduce injuries. The proposal sends a political counterpunch toward a wave of Republican-led states that have sought to ban trans athletes from competing in school sports. If finalized, it would become enshrined as a provision of Title IX, the landmark gender equity legislation enacted in 1972. It must undergo a lengthy approval process, however, and it's almost certain to face challenges from opponents. Miguel Cabrera hit a two-out RBI single in the third inning of his final home opener to put Detroit up 3-1. The Red Sox scored a run in the third and fourth before surging into the lead with a four-run sixth. Boston was swept at home earlier in the week by Pittsburgh. Chris Sale gave up three runs and four hits and three walks while striking out seven in five innings. Detroit catcher Jake Rogers fired up fans — bundled up on a chilly afternoon — by turning on an inside pitch and sending it 414 feet to left to put Detroit up 2-0 in the second. The Tigers, though, missed many chances to score more runs by leaving eight runners on base. Giants 16, White Sox 6 – Homer-happy Giants slug 5 more, pound White Sox 16-6 J.D. In the wake of nearly winning the 1994 Stanley Cup, the Vancouver Canucks expect to contend for years to come as they open a brand new, downtown arena. Star scorer Alexander Mogilny is added via trade as the Canucks bolster their roster for another run at the Cup. Across the continent, Markus Naslund struggles to adapt to the NHL as a highly touted prospect, and is ultimately traded out of Pittsburgh. Vancouver undergoes an unexpected change in ownership, which comes with a new approach to doing business and nearly results in signing Wayne Gretzky. The Canucks not only miss out on The Great One, they also end up missing the playoffs for the first time in seven years. In this episode you will learn about the journey of a small town Saskatchewan boy's road through minor hockey, the WHL and all the way to the NHL and DEL. Many great lessons are shared by Denis who played 435 games in the National Hockey League for the New Jersey Devils, Vancouver Canucks, Phoenix Coyotes and Nashville Predators. A native of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Denis Pederson played for the Carlton Park Mustangs and joined his hometown team Prince Albert Raiders when he was 16 years old.He was selected by the New Jersey Devils in the 1993 NHL Draft (first round, 13th overall). He continued playing for the Raiders in the WHL and also spent time with AHL's Albany River Rats, before making his NHL debut with the Devils during the 1995-96 season. In 2000, he was traded along with Brendan Morrison from the New Jersey Devils to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for Alexander Mogilny. From 2003 to 2012, Pederson played for Eisbären Berlin of the German top-flight Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) and won six German championships as well as the 2010 European Trophy with the team. He had his jersey number 20 retired by the Berlin club in December 2015.Denis was inducted into the Prince Albert Sports Hall of Fame in 2015.
This week we tackle the 2022 Stanley Cup Final and offer up our thoughts on the postseason. We move on to discuss Alexander Mogilny missing out on induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame once again and whether his resume is enough to get into the Hall in the future. We wrap up with listener questions which go heavy on Buffalo's options in net this offseason.

Seattle Kraken hockey is back! Jeff and Joey pound coffee and break down what went right and what went wrong with last night's game against the Colorado Avalanche. How Grubauer needs help from the team in order to stay hot, the fans singing along to Blink 182, McCann firing a laser from the boards, and what the hell is the difference between a deflection and a kicked puck are all discussed. The boys' go on to discuss Mardi Gras and explain why they've been eating so much King Cake, how they should plan a trip to Dallas to catch the Kraken face off against the Stars, and exactly what Mardi Gras Krewes are composed of and how it all ties into Mardi Gras Day. The boys also break down the comping road swing against the Dallas Stars and St. Louis Blues followed by the upcoming home games at Climate Pledge Arena versus the LA Kings and Chicago Blackhawks. Jeff segways into trade rumors and the possibility of dealing Mark Giordano and Chris Driedger is discussed before they go into #NoDumbQuestions which covers the +/- statistic in the NHL and exactly how relevant it is in the game which gives Joey an excuse to bring up Felix Hernandez and the Seattle Mariners after somehow thinking he saw a stat that showed Vladimir Tarasenko of the St. Louis Blues having a +/- of +150 on the season. Last, Hockey History with Jeff has him breaking down just how many international players we see in the NHL today, how that is drastically different from what the landscape looked like as early as two decades ago, and the story of Alexander Mogilny - a Russian hockey player who defected to the United States and risked his life to play in the NHL and why the "Miracle on Ice" in the 1980 Winter Olympics when the United States defeated the Soviet Union was such a big deal for the sport. Wait til you hear about our NFL ring ceremony concept...Jonah is back in from his Fresh year of college and contributes in a big way. Maria can best be described as mildly bemused and tolerant as the guys propose the following:1) What would you do if you had the Stanley Cup for a day?2) A total reimagining of the NFL Super Bowl ring ceremony. What if NFL Super Bowl rings were turned over every year like the Stanley Cup? 50 yard line, previous winners line up across from new winners and (Benny Hill theme starts playing) each player has to find another one to wear his ring.Would there be Red Carpet event fan overlap for the Super Bowl if there was a week long leadup with players discussing the rings, their potential outfits for the ceremony and who their potential targets might be?If this sounds to you like it might be a terrible idea, maybe you need to ask yourself this question: “If Elvis Grbac, 1994 Michigan Wolverines starting QB, thinks its a great idea...is it possible that maybe I’m the one missing the point?”*If you are an NFL athlete or know an NFL athlete, please explain to us why or how you think this will be successful and who to contact to make it work.*To date, Elvis Grbac is definitely unaware of this idea and may or may not think it’s a good idea. Please visit us at https://thetragedyacademy.com On social media, you can find us at @thetragedyacademypodcast on Instagram, The Tragedy Academy Podcast on Facebook, and @tragedy_academy on Twitter. He's also in the NFL's Top 10 for career All-Purpose Yards and Receiving Yards. Tikitalks-podcastin kuudes jakso alkaa lyhyellä piipahduksella New Jerseyn suolle (0:44), mistä matka jatkuu huomattavasti viihtyisämpään Vancouveriin, kun journeyman-Tikkanen pelaa yhden kauden aikana peräti kolmessa eri NHL-joukkueessa.

June 26th, 2020 | The Hockey Betting Podcast On the latest episode of The Hockey Betting Podcast, Brian Blessing and Cam Stewart shake their heads at the delayed announcement of hub cities. While we don’t get hockey games to bet on, we will get the NHL draft lottery tonight at 8 p.m. ET. As Brian says “It’s a great day to be a Sabres fan!” Yes, there are a few laughs on today’s episode. We’d like to thank BetCris Canada for their support of The Hockey Betting Podcast. Listen to the latest episode of The Hockey Betting Podcast to get all of Brian and Cam’s updates and humor. NHL Hub Cities Remain Mystery and Hall of Fame Debate The NHL was supposed to announce its hub cities last Monday but now the process and the announcement continues to be delayed. One thing for sure is that Vancouver will not be selected due to their strict government policy for COVID-19. The guys agree Edmonton would be a great choice. Meanwhile Toronto boasts a multitude of choices as far as game sites. And New York would be an intriguing potential wild card hub. Another complication is which players won’t want to play at what hub cities? One thing that we do know is that everyone is fed up with the hemming and hawing and is ready to drop the puck. Listen now to this episode of The Hockey Betting Podcast for an assessment of where things stand in the NHL. The guys then turn to the NHL Hall of Fame selections and the disgrace of Alexander Mogilny not getting in. The Hall of Fame has a rather stodgy and plodding process that is very political and often misses the mark. Listen now to this episode of The Hockey Betting Podcast for a riveting discussion. We’d like to thank BetCris Canada for their support of The Hockey Betting Podcast. Make sure to listen to The Hockey Betting Podcast as Brian and Cam keep you informed and entertained while we wait for play to resume in the NHL.
