He was a soldier in the Roman army during the reign of Julian the Apostate. Like many soldiers, he was a secret Christian, serving under the Imperial commander Bacchus when his troops battled the Franks. A mighty Frankish soldier, like Goliath, challenged the Romans to send one of their company out to do single combat with him. The commander sent Barbarus, who prayed to the Lord and overcame the Frankish giant, after which the Frankish army was easily vanquished. The commander then ordered a triumph in celebration of victory, including a public sacrifice to the Roman idols. At the sacrifice, the commander noticed that Barbarus was standing aside and asked him why: Barbarus revealed that he was a Christian and could not make sacrifice to the idols. The commander reported this to the unbelieving Emperor, who ordered that Barbarus be put to torture. Barbarus endured many cruel torments with serenity and courage. During his tortures, many wonders were seen, and many of his fellow-soldiers embraced the Christian faith. Three of these were Bacchus, Barbarus' commander; Callimachus; and Dionysius. All three were beheaded for confessing Christ, then Barbarus himself attained the Martyr's crown through beheading.

In this message from the In Christ series, Neil Silverberg opens Ephesians 5:15–21 and asks a timely question: how do you live wisely in a foolish age? He begins where Ephesians itself begins—our identity in Christ. Before any practical exhortation lands, Neil roots wise living in the gospel logic of justification by faith alone. Drawing on Ephesians 2:8–10 and the story of Martin Luther's awakening to the “righteousness of God” as a gift, he shows how freedom from condemnation breaks the shame/strive cycle and turns obedience from fear-driven effort into Spirit-enabled response. From that gospel foundation, Neil unpacks Paul's call to “make the best use of the time.” Redeeming time is more than productivity talk; it's buying our hours back from sin, distraction, and empty habits. He explains the difference between chronos (clock time) and kairos (opportune time), urging us to treat every day as a precious, non-renewable gift and to recognize the Spirit-charged moments that call for prayer, repentance, service, and faithful work—especially “because the days are evil.”Neil then turns to discerning “the will of the Lord.” Rather than chasing a secret blueprint, he emphasizes the moral will of God revealed in Scripture. As our minds are shaped by what God calls good, true, and pure, countless decisions clarify. He offers concrete examples—stewardship over impulse in finances, marrying in the Lord, and ordering daily habits “worthy of the Lord”—and prays with Paul (Colossians 1:9–10) that we would be filled with the knowledge of God's will in all spiritual wisdom. Finally, Neil addresses Paul's sharp contrast: “Do not get drunk with wine… but be filled with the Spirit.” He explains the issue of influence and control, noting the ancient pull of Bacchus and the modern wreckage of intoxication. “Be filled” is a continual command, not a one-time milestone. What does a Spirit-filled life look like? Paul gives three visible marks: worship that sings truth into our own hearts and into the church, gratitude that gives thanks always and for everything in Jesus' name, and mutual submission that reshapes every relationship out of reverence for Christ. If this message helps you walk wisely, consider sharing it with someone who needs encouragement. Which part is most challenging for you right now—redeeming time, discerning God's will, or staying continually filled with the Spirit? We are Trinity Community Church in Knoxville, Tennessee.Subscribe to our Podcast & YouTube channel to find past sermons, classes, interviews, and more!Find us on Facebook & Instagram

VYS0055 | Merry ChristMups! - The Muppet Christmas Carol - Vayse to Face with Phil Ristaino: Saturnalia 2025 - Show Notes God help us, every one! 'Tis the season of good will to all creatures and, even better, that jolly old elf, Phil Ristaino, returns to Vayse after an absence of only 4 episodes for an urgent meeting about the Muppet Christmas Carol, a film which he had never seen before researching for the episode! With Phil's help and encouragement Hine and Buckley joyously delve into a film which has been a Vayse favourite for over 3 decades, discussing the sad and sudden demise of the genius that was Jim Henson, the connections between the muppets and spirituality, why the Muppet Christmas Carol is one of the best Christmas movies, if not one of the best movies ever made, how the spirit of Jim Henson visited his successor to the voice of Kermit... and how the Muppets got the best performance of his career out of Michael Caine (recorded 4 December 2025). In this episode, Chance and Dylan dive deep into the many identities hidden behind the name “Moses.”We explore how ancient authors described Moses in the plural, why his story echoes across multiple cultures, and how the archetype of the persecuted child appears everywhere from Greece to Egypt. The conversation uncovers striking parallels between Moses, Bacchus, and other mythic river-gods, revealing the importance of water symbolism, astro-theology, and cyclical creation myths. We also examine the roles of the Muses and Nymphs, the Egyptian influence on biblical narratives, and the allegorical layers beneath the Exodus tradition. This episode blends mythology, philology, and ancient history, showing how deeply interconnected these stories truly are — and how the figure of Moses reflects a much older, broader, and more universal mythic pattern.EXTENDED EPISODE FOR MEMBERS ONLYPatreon - https://www.patreon.com/posts/144912153Substack - https://innerversepodcast.substack.com/p/the-many-faces-of-moses-and-the-greekYT - https://youtu.be/Y89lcpoahwcLINKSBiofield Tuning with Chance: https://www.innerversepodcast.com/sound-healingSpirit Whirled Audiobooks: https://www.innerversepodcast.com/audiobooksDylan Saccoccio on Substack: https://www.substack.com/greattideSUPPORT

Annouska describes the type of business that Bacchuss does as 70% consumer and 30% corporate. Before we start, the headline news is that The PRmoment Awards have now opened for entries.. So if you want: Independent third party recognition of your work and a compelling differentiator that attracts new clients and builds credibility, then do enter.Improved this year is our insights & feedback functionality, you now receive constructive feedback on your campaign work and agency performance, broken down by the specific judging criteria. And finally from a GEO and LLM Optimisation perspective: Every winning entry will receive a dedicated profile page on the PRmoment Awards website, which will showcase the successful submission and explain the judging panel's decision. Also, our PR Masterclass the Agency Growth Forum is less than 2 weeks away. Virtual and face to face tickets are now available.Check out PRmasterclasses.com or the homepage of PRmoment for the full speaker lineup. Also, thanks so much to the PRmoment Podcast sponsors the PRCA.Here's a summary of what Anouschka and PRmoment founder Ben Smith discussed:Anouschka started the business with Charlotte Lurot and, a couple of years later, Daize Washbourn joined. Has having 3 leaders from an early stage accelerated the ambition of Bacchus? Anouschka talks about PR needing to have a commercial impact and needing to generate cash for clients. How does that come through in the approach to Bacchus's work? All of Bacchus' senior staff in London have been with the business for over a decade. That creates great experience and knowledge in the business but can it result in a lack of opportunity for more junior employees?Anouschka talks about how Bacchus made the move into real estate PR? That seems quite a jump from restaurants and hotels? But that was a crucial step for the business right. How does Bacchus create an entrepreneurial culture in its business? “It needs to be a better package than anyone else is offering.”Anouschka has built an international business when lots of her peer agencies have struggled to build an international network. Why did she decide to go international relatively early in Bacchus's journey?“Corporate PR is probably easier than consumer PR!”“Any international entity coming to the UK needs to understand that our press will leave no stone unturned.”How excited is Anouschka about PR's GEO opportunity? If Anouschka had one piece of advice for young PR agency leaders out there, what would it be?“Never compete with anyone but yourselves?”Is Anouschka nervous or positive about the future of the PR agency business?

We continued our series "The Way" by exploring Ephesians 5:15-21, where Paul calls us to be filled with the Spirit rather than drunk with wine. Paul wrote to Christians in Ephesus, a city saturated with pagan religion, excess, and Roman imperial propaganda. In that hostile cultural environment, he urged believers to be intentional about how they lived. When Paul contrasts drunkenness with being Spirit-filled, he's addressing more than alcohol moderation. In the ancient world, people worshiped gods like Bacchus through intoxication, seeking transcendence by losing control. Paul is saying: don't let wine (or anything else) be what fills and controls you. We're all designed to be filled with something greater than ourselves. This God-shaped hunger was meant to drive us back to our Creator. But when humanity fell, that desire got redirected toward created things: money, success, relationships, consumerism, social media, political movements. Whatever fills that void will eventually enslave us. As N.T. Wright says, "You become like what you worship."Being filled with the Spirit isn't like refilling an empty cup. The Greek suggests immersion, like baptism. We're plunged into an infinite ocean, surrounded and saturated from the inside out and outside in.Paul gives us four practices of Spirit-filled living: encourage one another with psalms and hymns, worship through singing, practice thanksgiving in all circumstances, and submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. These practices keep us immersed in the Spirit rather than controlled by culture. Worship is the greatest catalyst for growing in God's presence, realigning our hearts with truth and transforming our relationships, families, and communities.URF WEBSITE: ➤ http://www.urfellowship.comSOCIALS: ➤ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/urfellowship/➤ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/urfellowship

“That dude is Dracula, man…”   The entire month of October is Halloween. And you can't do October without TYPE-O-NEGATIVE, as they are the official soundtrack to the month of Halloween.    Released August 20, 1996, OCTOBER RUST, their 4th studio album (or 3rd if you count “Origin of the Feces” as a “live” album, which we actually do, even though it's technically not) is much more gothy, textured, and atmospheric than previous TYPE-O albums while still maintaining the same gothic, heavy, doom laden aesthetic of their previous albums, making it the perfect sonic representation of all things Halloween: vampires, werewolves, haunted houses, haunted relationships, hot bisexual goth girls who are into threesomes, bottles of red wine, and lonely forests bathed in the colorful, seasonal transformation that is autumn.   It's time to imagine Molly Ringwald dressed as a goth girl for Halloween as you feast your ears on the creepiest, evilest sounding keyboards in metal while summoning Bacchus (the god of wine and revelry and/or tits) to help prepare for this season's “fistivities”.   Discover the actual definition of “zoanthropic paranoia”, find out what happens when you make a goth girl squirt, and learn about Peter Steele's lesser known “nickname” when you JOIN US as we rrrrrrroll our R's rrrrrrright on through creepy season with OCTOBER RUST. Listen alongs as we continue through the book of Acts. Notes//Quotes: Acts 15:22-41 2 Timothy 2:22  “Cheap grace is the preaching of forgiveness without requiring repentance, baptism without church discipline, Communion without confession, absolution without personal confession. Cheap grace is grace without discipleship, grace without the cross, grace without Jesus Christ, living and incarnate.” - Dietrich Bonhoeffer  Grace is not opposed to effort, it is opposed to earning. Earning is an attitude. Effort is an action. Grace, you know, does not just have to do with forgiveness of sins alone. - Dallas Willard “They dwell in their own countries, but simply as sojourners. As citizens, they share in all things with others, and yet endure all things as if foreigners. Every foreign land is to them as their native country, and every land of their birth as a land of strangers. They marry, as do all; they beget children; but they do not destroy their offspring. They have a common table, but not a common bed. They are in the flesh, but they do not live after the flesh. They pass their days on earth, but they are citizens of heaven. They obey the prescribed laws, and at the same time surpass the laws by their lives. They love all men, and are persecuted by all. They are unknown and condemned; they are put to death, and restored to life. They are poor, yet make many rich; they are in lack of all things, and yet abound in all; they are dishonored, and yet in their very dishonor are glorified” Epistle to Diognetus (2nd Century) Matthew 23:1-12 The early church understood well the powers at work in the Roman Empire. There were many gods who ruled and oppressed its citizens. Among them were Aphrodite (goddess of sex), Hephaetus (god of technology), Mars (god of war), Ploutos (god of wealth), and Bacchus (god of pleasure). At the top of the ladder, and unifying them all, was political power, deified in the Caesar, and nourished by the Imperial theology and religious practice. The powers and gods were the forces that most determined and shaped their lives. The church understood the oppressive and intrusive influence of evil. They understood the comprehensive scope and spiritual power of these cosmic powers to tyrannize their lives. Perhaps we shake our heads at the primitive and childish worldview that could ever conceive of a world populated by powers. After all, science has liberated us from such nonsense. Yet when we see millions addicted to pornography, it seems the goddess of sex is not dead. When we see millions of lives trivialized and emptied of significance by addiction to technology, we observe that the god of technology still wields power. When we experience the seductive power of a consumer society that inflames us with a desire for the senseless consumption of goods and experiences, we must grant that the gods of wealth and pleasure are alive and well. And the billions of dollars spent annually on arms betray our enslavement to the gods of war and national security. Economic forces, political powers, sexual addiction, technological seduction: it seems we are helpless before these powers. All scientific attempts to control them have failed. - Mike Goheen “God is always trying to give good things to us, but our hands are too full to receive them.” Augustine
