TV and film director Rob Tate joins Tim to talk about his documentary called “The Magic Pill” that was released in 2017 and has built a strong audience on Netflix and Amazon Prime. Why? Because it takes a look at you and me, what we eat, and our health. And it puts it all together into some simple lessons that will make you think twice before that next trip to the grocery store or the restaurant. https://traffic.libsyn.com/forcedn/shapingopinion/Rob_Tate_-_Magic_Pill_auphonic.mp3 Before we get started, I need to tell you that this episode is not another lecture on your diet or health. It's not an attempt to change anything about you. But after you listen, you may think twice before you make that next trip to your fridge. The film we're going to talk about today is called The Magic Pill, but as the title somewhat sarcastically infers, there isn't one. There is no magic pill you can take to prevent or address the full range of health problems or disease you could face. Or is there? The film poses some timeless questions. What if most of our modern diseases are just symptoms of the same underlying problem? And what if our diet, what we eat is both the cause and can be the cure? Our guest today, Rob Tate allowed those questions to guide him around the world to seek answers, and the ones he received were not totally surprising, but they do go against much of what we are told by the health establishment today. Yes, diet is critical to our health. But what kind of diet? How can the diet we've been told to follow hurt us? Links Rob Tate Website The Magic Pill, IMDB Healthy Macadamia Nut Bread Recipe Nutritional Values per Loaf: calories 3,183 INGREDIENTS 150g / 5.3oz Macadamia Nuts or Macadamia Butter 20g / 7.76oz Coconut Butter (also known as Manna) 6g / 0.2oz Baking Soda 3g / 0.1oz Pink Himalayan Salt 60ml / 2fl oz Lemon Juice 5 eggs (circa 50g each) TOOLS Batter Bowl Silicone Spatula Loaf Tin Coconut Oil Spray Hand Mixer High Speed Blender (to make nut butter) This is the bread recipe from "The Magic Pill" from Sara. About this Episode's Guest Rob Tate Rob Tate (Executive Producer / Director / Editor) has won the Emmy, Cine Golden Eagle, James Beard, and the IDA (International Documentary Association) awards for his various projects, including the PBS international documentary series, GOURMET'S DIARY OF A FOODIE and the Sundance Channel documentary series, ARCHITECTURE SCHOOL, which Time Magazine hailed as one of the Top Ten TV series of 2008. Rob also co-produced, shot and edited the independent feature fashion industry documentary, ELEVEN MINUTES, released by Regent Pictures, which Variety called a “skillfully crafted, beautifully shot and edited pic.” He is currently an EP of the PBS series, MOVEABLE FEAST, and the Australian food series, THE PALEO WAY WITH PETE EVANS. THE MAGIC PILL is Rob's second feature documentary.

Aaron Zober brings on Tim Richards to The Appropriate Omnivore podcast. Tim recently rebranded The Philosopher's Stoneground as Philosopher Foods. Philosopher Foods makes organic craft almond and coconut butters. Tim talks about everything almond farming. Conventional almond farming is one of the most unsustainable types of agriculture with its heavy use of water and pesticides. Tim explains though that we don't need to give up our love for almonds as they can be grown sustainably. He then gets into how almonds have many health benefits. Philosopher Foods also produces coconut butter. While the coconuts currently used come from regenerative agriculture, Tim gets into his quest to use regenerative almonds. Plus Tim talks about issues related with using truly raw almonds and what products we can expect from Philosopher Foods in the future.

The science of fats can be controversial, in favour one month and out the next. But of course not all fats are the same. So here's a question; Butter or margarine – which is best? And is coconut oil for cooking a good or a bad thing? I'm joined by Professor Bruce Griffin who's an active researcher and external speaker in human nutrition in relation to cardiovascular health. Bruce has published widely in the areas of blood lips, dietary macronutrients and cardiovascular disease so who better to ask in this episode: Butter or margarine? Coconut oil in cooking – good or bad fat?
Great chats with Stephen, fellow Irishman and hilarious comedian! We chatted about how he met women IRL via Christian events. The struggle between sex and religious shame. How easy it was to meet people when he worked as a bartender. He also told me how he met his now longterm girlfriend in London and how he asked her out twice in the space of a year!
Have you been wanting to change your eating habits but have no idea what to do? There are plenty of fad diets out there, and Taylor Stolt brings her expertise to help you navigate the good, the bad, and the ugly. Learn about how focusing on your entire health history can help you make smart decisions with your diet, providing the groundwork for a more energized and vibrant lifestyle. From the Episode: Taylor Stolt works with clients in functional medicine. She explains how doing detective work on your entire health history can help you find root causes for health issues, rather than just treating symptoms. Losing weight is a common goal, but often our efforts are working against us. Taylor speaks to common challenges she sees clients face that can lead to a lack of energy and sometimes even weight gain. She talks about when to use supplements and where to buy (and not) buy them. When grocery shopping, pay more attention to the ingredients list than the claims on the front of the container. Keto is a huge diet craze, but what is it and how is it different from Adkins? Have you heard of intermittent fasting? Taylor dives in. Taylor also discusses what she thinks of the Paleo and AIP diets. One of these could be your road to healing your gut and reversing autoimmune disease. Happy Spring friends! I'm excited to bring you my conversation with Cindy DiPrima, Co-Founder and Creative Director of CAP beauty and co-author of “High Vibrational Beauty”. Known for her intelligent and elevated approach to style, Cindy has contributed to Harper's Bazaar, Domino, and Town & Country among other publications and ad campaigns. As two style-obsessed friends, she and Kerrilynn Pamer dreamed of building a store that was as inspiring as it was pure in it's mission. While sitting with Cindy you can't help but notice her deep and wise glow. During this insightful chat she shares how their common love for cooking, elevated entertaining and passion for wellness guided her and Kerrilynn to birth their ever inspiring brand. These women have not only defined what we know as “clean beauty”, they've brought to light to their community (and the world!) that what we put on our bodies is as important - and of substance - as we what put in it. For the full experience please listen to my interview with Kerrilynn. CINDY'S FAVORITES Cindy what are your "keep my sanity"' essentials? Green juice. Following a plant-based and food combining diet. Running. Yoga. Phone-free time with my kids (still working on this one! the camera is my weakness!). Cooking for family and friends What's your favorite workout or form of movement? Yoga is really my go-to. I've done lots of types and am now in a phase of loving hot yoga. The heat and sweat are both so therapeutic and really keep me well and my body has never been stronger. I don't practice Bikram but go to a looser style class at Modo. I also love running and love that this is something I can do with my husband. I'm not fast or distance driven. I just really like the workout. What is your non-negotiable self care ritual or tool? Gravity colonics with Gil Jacobs in NYC. What is the best beauty / health / wellness advise a parent or loved one has ever given you? My parents are and were healthy in a very mainstream sort of way, not radical and very respectful of the advice of doctors and Western medicine in general. I veer more to the left of that! But I am very grateful that my parents always questioned the over-use of antibiotics. I was raised not to take them unless absolutely necessary. THAT is advice for the ages. A simple beauty ritual / recipe / tonic you'd like to share with listeners. Bedtime tonic This is a great way to end the day and promotes deep, easy sleep and restoration: 1/2 teaspoon CAP Beauty's The 10PM 1 to 2 teaspoons CAP's The Coconut Butter (or more to taste! It's crazy delicious.) 1 tablespoon Dandy Blend (optional) 6 ounces hot water Splash of homemade nut, seed or oat milk Put all ingredients in a blender and run on high until mixed and frothy. Or put all ingredients your favorite mug and mix with an aero latte.
Happy birthday “High Vibrational Beauty”! In honoring this gorgeous holistic lifestyle guide I'm thrilled to share my conversation with Kerrilynn Pamer, it's co-author, and co-founder and CEO of CAP Beauty. Kerrilynn's first business, the boutique, Castor & Pollux, was a much-loved fixture in the West Village. In 2010 she introduced her customers to a small selection of naturals and watched the interest and love for this category grow. She decided at that point that New York City (and the world!) needed a store committed to natural beauty. Kerrilynn partnered with her longtime friend and collaborator, the photo stylist Cindy DiPrima Morisse, a perfect match as they had bonded for so long over their interest in healthful living. Kerrilynn and I became friends over Instagram (yes, it's a thing) and upon meeting felt as though we had met many times before. Her radiance is palpable, she truly walks her talk and is the embodiment of a modern ethereal being. Please listen in on this inspiring conversation from which I walked away vibing high, and listen to my interview with Cindy for the full experience. KERRILYNN'S FAVORITES Kerrilynn what are your "keep my sanity"' essentials? Spending time with my husband and dogs. Espresso in the morning, The 4 PM blend in the afternoon. Saturday yoga class at Kula. Healthy food in the fridge and cupboards. Daily Kundalini. Daily TM. What's your Favorite workout or form of movement? I adore the Saturday class at Kula with Jillian Turecki. A favorite moment during the week. What is your non-negotiable self care ritual or tool? I've been exploring the idea of having no "non-negotiables". It was creating a rigidity that I wasn't comfortable with, so these days I'm making efforts to just do what makes me feel good without the "should" wrapped around it. It's working for me. What is the best beauty / health / wellness advise a parent or loved one has ever given you? My Dad told me to never give up, and keep moving forward. That's a pretty good one. A simple beauty ritual / recipe / tonic you'd like to share with listeners. The CAP Beauty Matcha mixed with our Coconut Butter, some seed milk that my husband makes (his is the best!), turmeric and some tocotrienols served warm with bee pollen on top. A favorite. -- Are you ready for your transformation? Do you want to feel energized, happy and free? Then let's chat! Schedule a Consultation today.
